Instead of a call-in system, why not use a handheld digital recorder?
The sound quality is much better, the recorders are very affordable and you can use FTP to transfer files both directions.
Ever tried CC File Transfer? sm
I wonder if it is HIPAA-compliant. Any responses are appreciated.

File Transfer
I am currently using Novuscript as my file transfer provider. I only do a very small amount of transcription for 1 doctor, and this is costing me around $50 a month. Does anyone have any suggestions for a more economical HIPAA compliant file transfer method.
large file transfer
My MTSO sends large volumes of new account info (tons of normals, etc) in compressed files thru e-mail. Don't know anything else about compressed files, but thought it might be worth checking out.

File Transfer Questions
I work with C-phone for dictation - internet for transcription. Is it possible to dial into the C-phone and transfer the voice to a file on the computer, simulating voice file. All suggestions for software conversions available, would be greatly appreciated. Please email to aloha2@yaho.com.
FTP is File Transfer Protocol.
It is a method of sending files between two computers that requires a software program to accomplish the task. Think of it like Windows Explorer to move files between computers.
You need to have a server that acts as a holder where files can be uploaded to and downloaded from by parties who have access to that specific site, identified by their ISP numbers and not a name (like mtstars.com).
File transfer suggestions
I currently do a small amount of transcription for a doctor's office and have been using Novuscript to transfer files and dictation. Does anyone have any suggestions that might be less expensive that are HIPAA compliant for file transfer and dictation transfer.
VPN or secure file transfer
Are all VPN's secure? If not, which ones are? I need to purchase one soon.
Secure file transfer......(sm)
I've heard of several people using FilePhile for secure file transfers, although I have no personal experience with it. It's supposed to be free, easy, and HIPAA compliant.

Anyone get their MQ aco file to transfer to Keystrokes DQS? sm
I have tried and tried to get this to transfer over, but their is only spot I can find in the DQS system for it. I have copied my old file there, and it still only shows the header file preloaded in DQS. Anyone else have any luck with this? Thanks :)
FTP stands for file transfer protocol.
It is transferring files. You log onto the FTP site using software, such as Core FTP Lite that is free, then you can upload and download files on the company's FTP server.
Here's the link to the free download of Core FTP Lite.

I wasn't able to transfer my file, but someone referred me to..sm
this Productivity Talk board and I e-mailed the "moderator" of the board (and who seems to be the only person in the world who knows how to do this) two weeks ago and I've gotten no response, so that may just be a waste of time, but you could try it. I have had to manually re-enter my auto corrects yet again. I went from SmarType on YOG to DQS to new job in Word all in two months. I so hope I don't have to do this again for a very long time.
Good luck.
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol
It transfers voice files.

Easy backup file transfer alternative for non-tech-savvy client
Hello all,
I have a new client who is not tech-savvy at all. She lost her Transcriptionist and transcriptions are backing up. She is so desperate she is willing to try digital with me. (yay) I hope everything with the FTP setup goes easily for her, but if for some unforseeable reason we cannot get it to work, I was wondering if someone here could recommend an easy alternative, if only to get the first few dictations to me while we work out the FTP. She is incredibly frustrated and on edge at the moment, so anything to ease this transition would be a lifesaver!
Thank you all so much for your help!
Handheld Device
My doctors switched over to the Olympus WS 110 digital recorder. It's fantastic and reasonably priced.
I have an Outstanding Olympus handheld
that does voice and conference that I'm considering selling :) It's the size of a cell phone.
Can upload to computer - DSS/WAV FILES.
Your still have to have software with the handheld unit
that allows upload to FTP. Without that, FTPVoyager is useless. Make sure you buy handheld units that have the software capability to upload to FTP otherwise you'll be stuck.
If you find that handheld units with the upload software is out of your price range, consider the EZ-Voice solution.
Good luck!
I have an outstanding Olympus handheld
Used and for sale! (hmmm maybe I'll post it on the Classified board)... in the meantime I highly recommend the brand. Phillips has a great reputation as well.
Buy handheld digital recorders.
Don't go cheap on those for several reasons. One, they higher-end recorders will be easier for the docs to backup and edit their recording. Also, they are better built and the sound quality is better.
Your basic needs are recorders, playback software, foot pedal to control playback and a secure, HIPAA-compliant method of transmitting files. There is so much information out there. Your best bet is to first get educated on how digital works. Try a Google search and also search this site since there have been many requests for the same information you're seeking.
If you want someone who will outline the steps, do set up and/or training, etc., you would do well to hire a consultant.
They must be talking about the handheld computer device (sm)
they use in some hospitals to keep track of vitals, meds and patient information.
I know of one hospital that uses this and it is used in rehab. They don't need transcriptionists at all.
Handheld unit software question. sm
Is there a software for the Olympus WS-100 and other units with USB ports that copy from the unit to FTP or designated site for file transfer, store a copy onto computer, and then delete from unit?
If so, please advise. Thanks.
Rename your normal.dot file to something else then restart Word. It will create a new file.

this has been around for years - although handheld is fairly new - was juust a computer in each room

Radiology dictation....do any of your radiologists use handheld recorders anymore?
Or is it mainly phone and through the PC? Thanks!
I think it is the same type of file, so rename it and replace your autocorrect file with your DQS us

Help..I lost my word file. How can I retreive a file that has been changed? sm
I was working on a large file and had saved it in Word. I then went back to work on the file and hit a key that made the page go blank. When I went to close the document it asked me to save any changes on the document. I answered yes, and now when I click on that document it is all blank! Shouldnt the previous info saved be there, even if the current stuff is not? Please help me!! Thank you
Depends on the file format of the Short Cuts file.
ShortHand comes with a utility file that can import various formats. You can get that file with the trial download of SH.

I currently type for a doctor who dictates with a digital handheld and sends the files via e-mail fo
and wanted to be able to call me with his dictations. What would be the best and cheapest way for me to go so that he can do his dictations without the handheld unit?? I don't want to invest in a lot because he does not forget very often. This is the first time in three months. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
...with your user.aco file. Save your autocorrect file to somewhere else. nm

You can save the SH file in a text file and import to IT that way. sm
You may have to do some cleanup in the SH text file, but it sure would be faster than re-entering them all manually.
File taxes under the name on file w Social Security....
Name on W2 doesn't have to match, but your tax return has to match SS records. They don't want your marriage license or anything else. Did that for 13 years as instructed by IRS. Didn't have to change it with SS until state changed rules requiring drivers license to match SS records. Still use my maiden name in some limited circumstances.
Would be willing to pay for doc's recorder but sm
Don't know how to get this thing going. Do not know how you get their dictation to come through your computer. What if they do not dock it correctly and it gets lost forever? I don't understand how it gets from their office to your computer. I know it's a competitive world, but anyone willing to share? I know how the big companies do it, but the little docs with their hand held digital recorder, how do they do it and how do you get it without losing it? Once it leaves them can it get "lost" totally! SCARED!
recorder
I have over 20 docs using the Olympus DS-4000. A bit pricey at about $450 -- but ease/transition of use is minimal and voice quality is outstanding. Most started with the cheapies from Staples or Office Max, but so many recording errors, maxed out internal memory, lost files, etc, they eventually all converted to the Olympus. Good luck!
Digital Recorder
If doc has a digital recorder what software does he need to download dictations via internet to my end? I am still trying to figure this out - Express Scribe did not work. The work I have received from him is through Media Player and I am unable to use my footpedal.
digital recorder
I have Gearplayer through transcriptiongear.com. That pretty much plays any voice file that comes through. It is great!
Olympus DM-1 recorder
Please email me and I'll send a detailed description.

Digital Recorder
Is anyone using the Olympus DS-30 for physician transcription. I am looking to purchase one for a doctor and would like some feedback. Thanks!
digital recorder help.....please
I am in the process of setting up a large group of drs with digital recorders. They don't want to spend too much money on the units. I was looking into Sony or Olympus. I actually have a Sony (only cost 60.00), but it will only let you email the files. I need to find one that can upload to an FTP site because there are 15 drs, I know it will be too much for an email acct to handle. I have been researching and asking at stores and web sites, but people are totally clueless about their products.
Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it
The recorder will not do that for you automatically.
You will need a software program to do that. I am not sure but I thought that the very high-end Olympus recorders could be set up to do that but you'll have to check on that. Check the Olympus site link below.
Bytescribe has a package that uploads/downloads but it my be beyond your $$. Also check with some of the other vendors who advertise here like GearPlayer. Search this site for some other ideas as well.
Dictation recorder
Would any of you have an old dictation recorder (digital) or know where I could pick one up at a discount? It is needed for someone to record a book - load onto a PC and then have transcribed. It must work with Express Scribe player. Thanks!
Something is wrong with HIS recorder..sm
It is on HIS end most likely, he may need to change batteries or may be in need of a new recorder altogether.
Digital recorder
Can anyone recommend a good digital voice recorder with MP3 playback?
Anyone using an Olympus recorder . . . see msg
The ending of each recording is cut off. Has this happened to anyone else, and what went wrong? TIA
What digital voice recorder would you
nm
Digital Voice Recorder
www.transcriptiongear.com has a bunch of choices and they all come with the software to transfer the files. The software can also be configured to return the documents too.
tell him to get a hand digital recorder.--sm
he can dictate into that as he makes his rounds and not have to have someone follow him around with a laptop (what does he want, a personal assistant?) and if he does not want to take the time to download the files to a PC, he can have one of his lackies do it for him. no big deal to push a button and talk...at least in my mind. but spoiled gets what spoiled wants...good luck.
Does anyone use the Olympus WS-100 digital recorder? sm
Have to buy this, and was wondering if there is some way for the voice files to automatically be transferred to a folder. It says it doesn't come with software that does this.
If there is a software that automatically does this or if I can set up system where it does this when it recognizes unit, please advise. Thanks.
Tapes and digital recorder
I courier for the tapes, the digital files I recieve by email, encrypted of course.
