In my opinion, your attitude is disturbing. Have you read what you have written?
Firstly, you have misplaced your anger. These issues should be taken up with your employer and with the people hiring MTs, if you are so concerned about quality.
Secondly, venting is one thing, but do you know how you 'sound' coming on here like you are better than everyone else.
Thirdly, in defense of many MTs I must say you are under time pressure to pump out reports so you can get your lines, your lines/per hour, your disgusting pay because you are competing with people who make 2 cents a line when you used to make 12 and are now making perhaps 7 on average...
MTs are supposed to be and act as so-called 'professionals' only how many professionals do you really know who are treated like slave labor, and who have to work under the situations above?
Greed and people like you have created this MT you are so "sick" of, and now you want to change it back. Good luck with that. You are getting what you are paying for, and I say you because you are acting as though this is a personal attack on you.
If you are so sick, go to your employer and tell them they need to make some changes.
Next, in defense of MTs, you have the advantage of reading through a report already transcribed, just listening, after an MT probably has gone through and painfully done the best he/she can, but rather than spend any more time on a report, sends it to QA for help.
What kind of MT are you - have you never had that happen where you simply cannot catch what a doctor is saying, so you ask a coworker who comes along and immediately hears it clear as a bell!
Lastly, do you really think you are doing any justice to your job, if you are so disgusted and unhappy with it? Seriously, perhaps you could take a management position, or start a mentor-type program to help these MTs...

I could go on and on about the STUPID mistakes MTs make - perfect dictators - just stupid lazy mistakes - wrong drugs and meds entirely - happens all the time. Forget dosages. If doctors had to rely on this typed garbaged (used typed intentionally - transcribed doesn't fit), they'd kill most of us as patients. And some MTs have an attitude about it? So frightening. But lets' give 'em bonuses and incentives to GET IT RIGHT!

I get tired of daily grind. I get tired of having
horrible dictation/dictators and not able to produce lines, which directly affects my paycheck. I don't mind doing the difficult stuff, and I pretty good at it, but it is stressful and I find it very hard to budget when you never know what your paycheck is going to be. I hate being tied to having earphones on all day. I have children at home (I homeschool and don't have toddlers running around) and my DH works third shift so he is home during the day. I try to work around all this, but can't always. If I had a "desk" job I could be part of conversations at least, but having to have the earphones on you can't do that. I get tired of being sedentary, my feet swell, my shoulders are tired, my elbows hurt, etc.
I stick with it because of my children, and also because I like the flexibility. I don't have to be up at 5:30 to get the kids up and ready for school, I don't have to fight traffic to get to work at 8:00. It is a trade-off. Sounds like you just need a break.
That is disrespectful and no other way to read it.
Since there are no time stamps on the posts, how in the world do you know what time or how many posts this person made at one visit, which could have been just on the lunchbreak, before work, or after work. Assuming the person is here ALL day is disrespectful and just stirring up trouble.

She is completely right. She has a right to her opinion and she is free to express it on this board. This man has disgraced us on the world stage and is not deserving of respect in my opinion. He certainly did not respect the 3500+ soldiers that died fighting a trumped up war. He does not respect the American people when he disdains public opinion and pushes his own agenda. This is a free board and as far as I know nobody's children have any desire to read anything on this board.

I found your post disrespectful. You assumed that those complaining of not making money are living high off the hog and are just not managing their money wisely. You have no idea what these other MTs are going through or what their financial situation is. I know people that not only care for their immediate family, but parents as well. I know people that have outrageous medical bills because insurance didn't cover. I know people whose spouses have lost jobs that they have had for decades and one income isn't enough. For these people, even making $20 isn't enough. Yes, they can get other jobs. Yes, they could move into a cheaper area to live. But, you know what, if they are struggling right now and need to come here to vent, so be it. Who are you to judge and tell them what they should do?

Your opening statement about our President is disrespectful.
Whether or not you like him, he is still the President and that office should be respected. Unfortunately, your statement is reflective of the mindset and mentality of many in our country. And people have to ask why the rest of the world doesn't like us--we don't even like each other.
At the very least you should be respectful of those in positions of authority. It's modeling of appropriate behavior that our children see and emulate themselves.

I had a friend whose cat disappeared for about - sm
2 weeks (he was sick already) but ended up coming home to die. I am glad for my friend that the cat returned because she was feeling pretty bad about letting the cat out. The cat was an indoor/outdoor cat. As for it getting sick from the toilet, I highly doubt it. If your cat was old then maybe he did go off to die in the woods, or wherever. If he was young and he is not back yet then I would fear the worst unfortunately. We have a cat but choose to keep it in as we live 3/10 of a mile from a very busy road, too many neighbors pets have gotten killed up there (dogs, which I don't understand, we keep our dogs in a big fenced in back yard and the one dog is well-trained in terms of being called back if she ever gets loose). Our cat is actually afraid of the outside. I took her out once on a harness and leash when she was about 6 months old, she was terrified and ended up squirming out of the harness. Luckily I was able to "catch" her and bring her in. Now she "hunts" from the window squirrels and birds and seems to enjoy herself just watching out the windows. She is 3 now and quite happy.

Help please - all my documents disappeared. sm
Has anyone ever had anything like this happen? Everything that I had stored in my documents folder disappeared. Any settings that I had specific to my computer are gone like including my favorites on IE, my normal.dot with all my macros, autocorrect entries, etc. for word, all music files, all pictures, and any and all word and excel based documents I had saved. Interestingly my daughters user ID is fine and none of her documents disappeared. I have ran virus scanners to know avail so I don't know if it was some sort of virus or hardware failure. Any ideas? It is a pain to start all over. Also, what does everyone use for backup? This is about the third time this year I have had computer issues and lost everything and I am so TIRED of starting over and kicking my production time in half until I get myself built back up. I am ready for some type of really awesome backup to assure this does not happen to me again.

I only said you are not typing the lines that you should be paid BY THE HOUR and not by the line. That way, the more corrections you make the less you feel like "I'm not making any money today." Thus quality is going to be much better because the MT is not going to worry about going as fast as they can to make money and will take time out to make the corrections needed.
There should be a requirement of lines, but not PAID per line.
MT, proof as I go. ME, go back and proof afterwards
I have only been editing 3-4 months, and I find I make at least twice the stupid mistakes on ME as with MT, so I do scan the ME reports --find double periods, caps where they are not supposed to be -- stupid stuff.

Menu bar in Word disappeared!! Is there a toggle on
There must be a keyboard combination that I inadvertantly hit to make my Menu Bar (File/View/Tools, etc.) go away. Does anyone know what I need to do to toggle it back on? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Word and several other fix-its, but have realized it's probably something as dumb as this. Please help!

My Stedmans spellcheck disappeared with SP 2 for Office 2003!
An update from Microsoft of SP 2 for Office 2003, a reboot and now when I open Word my Stedmans spellcheck doesn't work. I tried to reload it and that doesn't work, either. Anyone else have this happen? I looked and it's in "Proof" for dictionaries as LEXB4SP, but it's not loading up and replacing the Word spellcheck. Now what do I do?

It just worries me that after we get everything set up will some weirdo go in and look around, get info off of your accounts, or go look at icky stuff on the web using your computer? My husband says his tech guys at his work said there is no reason why a tech person cant "fix" your problem by walking you through it. They say there is never ever a reason to authorize someone you dont know access to your computer. I am so confused! Really want this job, but dont want to risk my computer being an open door either.

I read that this story is so unique which is why it is getting so much coverage, and her parentes are talking to the media which a lot of grieving familes won't/don't do. Think about Jessica Lunsford's dad and how much you saw him on the news talking all the time to try to help his case. Which is what Beth Holloway Twitty is doing.
I truly think that if this Holloway gal was black and her parents were willing to talk to the media and give interviews all the time, I'm sure there would be coverage.
It's not about a rich white thing. Get over that. I am Hispanic and I don't even believe that. If you had a family member disappear and you were willing to talk to the media and had a good "story" you would get coverage. Trust me.
