back in 1970s, he made $1 a mile and above. He got out when the rates went down, when the government starting forcing truckers to drive only so many miles a day, and when the companies wanted you to drive over and above the so-called allowable mileage and if you got caught, YOU paid, not the company. Then there was the cross-country in 3 days deal....then, 'Hm-m-m, he could do it in 3 days, let's push a little harder to see if he can cut his time down more."

Bet you're hubby never makes $1 a mile or above now, especially with the high fuel costs and maintenance of the truck unless he is Haz-Mat or in a specialized field.

Oh, BTW, they are bringing back the railroads because "it's too expensive to truck the goods anymore."  It's the old "dange" if you do, and "dange" if you don't type of deal.

                           Destin, FL, for 7 days!!! I've been searching and searching, but to no avail.  These condo owners crack me up! I would either get NO response or a "Sorry, week not available. Try another week." Or the famous, "Yes, it is available." And then I respond to that and never hear from them again! I guess they decide they don't want to rent to us.  I always sign my emails with a very professional-looking signature such as, Jane Doe, Medical Editor, MQ Corp....and then my phone number! LOL  Makes me look so much smarter!! And it's true!!

Anyways, I am so happy for myself and my family...7 days on the Gulf of Mexico. I work on a laptop so I don't plan on taking any time off since I've already gone away this year to Disneyworld. Plus, they have wireless access.

When it comes to something like that, that I usually take care of but for whatever reason I can't, I will tell my husband exactly what to do, but when he comes back - to use your case as a "for instance" - I will ask him, "Did the doctor look at his foot?" 

Him: "No."

Me: "Did you ask the doctor to look at his foot?"

Him: "No."

Me:  "I told you to have the doctor look at his foot!"

Him: (shrug)

etc., etc., etc.

Your husband may not be like that - I sure hope he isn't. And yes, they should have checked his vitals and checked his foot without being asked. But sometimes you have to be assertive with people. And while my husband attained the rank of major in the Air Force and had no trouble ordering people around, there are times when he should be assertive but isn't. And he is not intimidated by doctors - he started his AF career as an x-ray tech (that's how we met). I dunno....(Rad MT wanders off, mumbling....)

The only life they know is confinement and pain.  From the little I let myself watch, they have absolutely no room to move, they are crammed and shoved in together.  They don't get to roam and do whats natural to them outdoors.  They are being born and raised primarily to be brutalized for crop.  Like a canned food factory.  They get their body parts cut off, injuries from other animals, and have to live in physical pain until they are ready to be put out of their misery for whatever purpose they serve.

In all honesty, I absolutely love meat and enjoy it on rare occasions, and it is meant for us to consume.  There is another way to do it!  They cannot be treated as if they do not have feelings, they 'feel' pain, the mother's are distressed when their calves are taken away, the calves are scared, you see it in their eyes, as another living thing, you have got to connect with this.  Its an awful way for any living thing to go through, even in a short time. 

I can see being raised on a farm, room to roam, be outside, run, eat normally, socialize with their breed, have a life.  They do not know the better that they are being raised for our consumption, there are living in peace without pain and living freely.  Being crammed, thrown around, beaks cut off, having throats slit, hung upside down while still alive thriving in pain is not a peaceful life.

However, that only works if the person who has dictated the voice file is also the one who trained Dragon on the system. IOW, Dr Smith has DNS 8 Med Suite in his office, and he's trained it enough to provide a good level of accuracy. He can dictate into the mobile unit, say, after seeing a patient, but things still have to be in the same manner that he dictates into DNS on his home system. He can give the voice file to his office manager to upload and do the editing.

But you can't do that with Dr Smith's dictation, unless Dr Smith has sat at your computer and trained it. As soon as you input the voice file, your system will give you a great big "do what?"

YOU don't work for SOMEONE/COMPANY.  You work for yourself (even if you're an employee).  I say that because you are working to provide your own needs, not those of whomever benefits from your work.  You arre responsible for providing for yourself and it is your personal responsibility to make sure your own needs are met.  If the beneficiary of your need to work (i.e., pay bills, earn money, whatever) is not providing what you need, you owe it to yourself to take care of yourself and find enough work to achieve that goal.

Now, I'm not saying don't have a team attitude or be selfish, demanding, negative, self centered, but when you think about it, NO one is going to take better care of you than YOU!  If you are sitting around waiting for someone else to take care of you, then you are not taking care of yourself.  Get proactive!  Find a supplement source of income.  The first company doesn't need to know what you are doing...besides, if you are an IC, by IRS guidelines, YOU are in control, not them.  They only need you IF they need you and have no obligation to be reliable in meeting your financial needs.

 a used 2004 buick lesabre for less than that AND drive it for another five years for free... (see link below) then pocket the extra 26K you spent to drive a "new" car for those five years. You can put 200,000 miles on those cars. They are extremely reliable.  Even repairs couldn't possibly cost you over $6000 - and that's what you're paying in ONE YEAR to drive your "brand new" leased vehicle. I guess if you want to throw away $6000 a year so everyone else can see your brand new car, be my guest. Me - I'd rather travel or spend it on my education or sock it away in my IRA rather than look good  :)  Would be interesting to hear how much debt those who lease carry.... don't say this to boast - not at all -but to give weight to what I say about living below your means. We live in a very nice, (average for our area ) custom house, 10 years old,  on a 5 acre lot. We each have a vehicle to drive with no rust that don't require repair. We have 0 debt on credit cards, 0 debt in car loans, 0 debt on mortgage (paid it off in 7 years when my MTs was doing quite well)....ask anyone who leases what their asset sheet looks like...and then decide who you would rather be like. Those who lease tend to be Big Hat, No Cattle.

I must be going through some weird change in my life or something, but for the last 6 months or so, I've just been obsessed with buying a convertible.  I have just about talked my husband into going and shopping for one this weekend. 

Do any of you fellow MTs have a convertible and if so, do you like it or do you not?  I would be interested in hearing pros and cons of convertibles.  Thank you in advance!
