My conversation with you is over. You sound worse than a pack of 6th grade girls.

I'm embarassed to even work with you all. Sound like a bunch of grade school delinquents. Grow u
So disrespectful, and just plain embarassing. You get whatever you desire, and based on your "class" on the boards, you all are getting it. I thank God literally that I don't have to share office space with you "women". A priceless blessing.
Don't know if you can, but the sound quality is sure to be atrocious. Gets worse with every

I think the same conversation is going on at
company board, not too far from type. Look for the blonde comments, sadly. I still have no clue which one is better, but I think some posters get into more detail. I personally would always go with spaces, 65 character line including spaces, but that's just me!
This whole conversation seems to have gone off in - sm
the direction of whether or not QA is "needed" or not, or whether or not they are up to doing their jobs correctly.
I'm not saying either of those things, but what I DID say was that all too often, both inhouse and at home, I've been having to deal with QA-ers who make changes where they should NOT be making them. I even had one take out an entire sentence that was CORRECT, and VERBATIM, and insert something that the doctor never even said, and which didn't belong with that patient's diagnosis.
That is SO unethical!
Worse. Far, FAR worse. (no mssg)

I just had a nasty conversation with a
telephone rep from India who informed me that all Americans were uneducated, stupid, and "farmers" and that India was getting all the jobs because they were all educated. She shut her fat mouth when I asked if that is why India still practices putting female infants on the hillsides to be eaten by wolves, why so many of their people are starving to death, and why disease is so rampant. They are getting to be the most arrogant bunch of people I have ever seen.
I have to say I am unsettled by this conversation. sm
I wouldn't dream of drinking while I am working. I don't believe that is a "perk" of being at home and like several have said, I don't care who you are, alcohol impairs you. I can't imagine saying anyone saying this is okay. And, much as Endiqua said, using the everyone does it scenario is not only wrong, it's immature. I hope we are more professional than that!
don't join in the conversation if you sm
don't want to but don't censor others from doing so!
But that wasn't conversation....
that was criticizing the original poster for "assuming" that others celebrate Easter. I don't think she assumed that at all; she was just asking what others were serving. I think she would assume that those who don't celebrate wouldn't answer because the question wouldn't apply to them.
I had a telephone conversation come through once -
It may have been a walkie - I am pretty sure I saw the guy drive down the street in front of me talking on something - it was very brief, I think probably when he was in very direct range. It was wierd!
But I'd rather listen to a side conversation than
erase and retype nearly every line. Three times the effort for 1/3 the pay when he does that. Back up. Change that. After it's already been typed.
Bizarre conversation on dictation
This obstetrician was talking to patient and her mother on a dictation this morning. The doctor and the patient's mother were trying to convince her to bring her dog into the office through the back door to have the doc do an ultrasound. He said, "I know where the uterus is, I'll just take a look to see what's going on in there". The patient had just given birth herself. It was so very strange. After about five minutes, he began to dictate.
WOW - I just read your link to a conversation with -sm
AHDI, and I KF's answers to your questions are so vague, so filled with upper management doublespeak, that they basically say nothing at all. Except there is one thing she has constantly sidestepped answering, and that is - What is AHDI doing for UNITED STATES MT's. Her non-answer says it all: NOTHING.
You should send a copy of that conversation, and copies of other posts on this board, to our California Congress & Senate representatives.
There is SO MUCH anger on this board, and if we could just consolidate all of that, and direct it towards our elected officials, who might be able to do something about it legislation-wise, it might go a long way towards helping American MTs.
Thanks for your excellent post, and for taking the time to pull off part of KF's sheep-suit, so we can all see what's underneath.
This conversation was on the company board, but I think
about line counts and how we might be suspicious. Don't know, but checking your lines anytime and knowing exactly how they are calculated are apples and oranges. I for one would like to know exactly the formula, and I would like to know when it changes. If the calculation changes so should my original offer letter. That is IMHO.
good choice. mr. ed provides transportation and conversation.
but isn't he dead?
Has anyone had a conversation with the people at Amherst about this situation. I am not sure where
to go after them to get any results. I would appreciate any recommendations you may have on this because it needs to be addressed.
Wrong - if you had gone to college you wouldn't be having this conversation.
Ever consider that maybe your lack of ambition is the problem and that your own set of choices have put you in a position you're not happy with? Of course not. It's always someone else's fault.
Listening to a cell phone conversation
My doc left his recorder on again. LOL
Had this exact same conversation here in 2005 - see message
Here is the original posting. I'm still doing MT but now on my terms. I don't make as much money as I did even 10 years ago but I get to pick and choose what I want to do. I still don't feel appreciated. And, once again, I blame the AAMT as well as the changes in business ethics that I see EVERYWHERE today. Let's not even get into the subject of the CEO's and their insane remuneration packages! Anyway, my only recommendation is to find something you love (MT or billing, or something else) and do it to the best of your ability and on YOUR OWN TERMS. That helps to mitigate the frustration, somewhat!
20 years as an MT - now I am on strike...sm

After 20+ years as an IC I have seen my salary go down, down, down! Not because my speed has decreased, no, it has in fact increased dramatically due to the availability of ShortHand programs. No, my salary has gone since the inception of AAMT and their "standards" and practices. The organization that was going to help MT's become more respected has done the opposite. Yes, there were doctors out there who initially thought of me as a "typist" but I quickly showed them the difference between a typist and a "medical transcriptionist" (medical language specialist). Some of them were unwilling to pay for the difference, but most were pleased to pay a bit more for someone who knew when he was making a mistake and was willing to call and get it right. Today, however, the large MT companies have driven the IC out of business. They offer 4-hour turn around at ridiculously low rates. Many of these companies outsource to India, Pakistan, the Philippines, etc. Some of the outsourced work is done perfectly. Most is not. I am hearing this from office managers who cannot convince the business owners that it is "cheaper" to have the transcription done correctly the first time rather than have more time (money) spent doing QA.
Most of my work has been for large radiology clinics. Conglomerates that own upwards of 100 to 200 radiology clinics across the country own these clinics. The bottom line with management is the "bottom line". Their bonuses and hefty salaries are dependent on keeping costs down...therefore cheap transcription is a "must".
Finally, the reason for the steady decrease in salaries for MT's is the availability of cheap foreign and (yes!) American labor. MT's in this country are becoming more desperate and accepting the lower line rates. Yes, of course you need to in order to pay for food, etc. However, if ever there was a time for us to organize a "strike" this is the time. It will never happen, however, because we are too busy just getting by. And where has the AAMT been during this time (in particular the last ten years when salaries have been eroding the fastest)? They have been telling us the "proper" way to do transcription. In the "good old days" if we did not transcribe correctly we were fired. If we used poor grammar, we were fired. That simple! Meanwhile this group (AAMT) purporting to be working to benefit MT's has instead been working to benefit themselves. They benefit themselves by touting their CE courses and the need for us all to become CMT's, that we can only do through their courses and their tests. None of which are free.
No, I am not an AAMT hater. I hate the hypocrisy of the AAMT. I hate the fact that experience counts for naught in this field. I hate the fact that the moment corporate America realized that medical transcription was an income producing product mostly male executives realized that they could take over with large companies, offer work at a much lower price than an individual could, and force the medical Transcriptionist to work at the prices they foist on us. That is what I have seen over the past twenty years.
Don't bother flaming me for telling you what I have seen. Most of the flamers will be from large corporations or IC's who have accepted their fate. Yes, you are making good money typing thousands of lines a day at a few pennies each line. Yes, you pay your bills doing so. I am not putting you down for doing so. What I am saying is that over the past 20 years the medical transcription field has changed (been hijacked by large corporations) and as such the bottom line is "how cheap can we get the transcription done". Such is corporate America. Get it done cheap or someone else will get the contract.
So, what am I suggesting? I don't know for sure. Perhaps there is no answer for most transcriptionists other than to accept their fate. As for me, I am lucky enough to have an income so that I can go on "strike" until I find a job that pays me what I am worth. Or, until I go back to school to find another career! Which is the most likely course of action a lot of us will be taking no matter how much we love what we were doing.
If you have any useful insights I would love to hear them. Flamers will be ignored.
I would say pack up and run as far as you can! sm
This guy sounds like my ex-husband. I'm only hoping you don't have children.
My ex is bipolar, OCD, etc., etc., but there was never anything wrong with him. It was always everyone elses fault. I got tired of keeping the perfect little house, the perfect little yard, making sure that he was okay, making sure his eggs were perfectly cooked just right in the middle, and that the kids were okay when daddy was in "one of his moods."
When he started having an attitude with the kids (at ages 5 and 2), I finally filed for divorce. His "punishment" for me has been telling the kids that they are "worthless" because they have me for a mother and that I am "insane". When they started going through their early teen years he just stopped talking to them because they did not live up to his "expectations."
He never went to counseling, but my kids did for many years. He told everyone that his kids were in counseling because their mother was insane. Of course nobody believed him. I see his mom and his sisters out and about a lot (small town). I don't say anything about my ex because I know that it is his family, but they will occasionally say, "Well, you know how he is."
Now he lives alone now in his perfect little house with the perfect little yard and has nobody to cook his perfect eggs. Friends, family, dozens of perfect girlfriends, and his own kids finally gave up on him a long time ago. Even the cat ran away. :)
Pack and run if the "boyfriend" (obviously noncommittal to your relationship) doesn't get help.
Good luck to you.
Conversation insinuating that RadGuy may be gay is NOT tolerated on this site.
Anyone who continues to post in this manner will have their posting ability immediately removed.
WHATEVER. I can't handle ignorant people, which means this conversation is over.
SEE YA!
one can short of a six pack! nm
I would tell them to pack sand
With an attitude from a doctor like that, I would refuse to do his work. There is plenty of other work out there, and there are plenty of other MTs out there. I'm sure the doctor could find someone willing to put up with his crap and I could find someone willing to show some courtesy and respect for my time. Again, I admit I am living under a rock, but I just don't see why it has to be so difficult, and why we should have to put up with so much nonsense. We are all human beings, allegedly on the same team, so why can't we work together? Is it a power struggle? If it is, I'll lose becuase I don't need to be the bigger person; I need to be able to understand the dictator so I can transcribe the report.
Service Pack 3
Service pack 3 does not work with my spell check. Does anyone know how I can keep this thing from downloading on my computer?
but, also, now you don't have service pack 3. nm
x
When I grade I look for...
...correct terminology and spelling, and nothing else. I once scored a report with 17 spelling errors. I told the applicant that I failed her on those. She replied "I don't have time to watch for that c--p!"
Does anyone with that kind of work ethic attitude think they're going to get hired? Who'd want to work with them? Any of you account managers or QA peeps out there want them on YOUR team? Didn't think so.
Anyway, I know where the spots are that the inexperienced or too cocky people will screw up, and that's pretty much all I look at. I leave it to QA to teach/correct areas that need to be changed, if need be. I just want people who know the terminology and can use it correctly.
Recently I took a test where I was dinged for NOT using the JCAHO dangerous abbreviations. However, how is one to know what to do when there are no instructions whether to use intelligent transcription or transcribe verbetim? That's where the people who are doing the scoring need to actually USE their gray matter rather than assume that people who are testing have consulted their psychic the night before to know what that particular QA peep is going to get their panties in a bunch over.
I'll get down off my soapbox now. Lol....
My son has been on an IEP since 1st grade sm
he is now in the 5th. The IEP helped a lot. He has accomodations when taking tests i.e. tests are read aloud to him, when he has math a tutor sits right beside him and he has speech 3 days a week for 30 minutes.
My son is currently in 5th grade. sm
I have to say his elementary school has been great and it is a public school. In fact, his kindergarten teacher was the best anyone could ask for. She really got him interested in school and loving it. In fact, I was the only one crying his first day of school. He was in heaven.
I would suggest going and sitting in on the classes and spending time in the school to get familar with the staff. My son's school has a wonderful staff all the way down to the school janitors who are husband and wife and treat the kids great.
Although there are a couple of teachers that I personally did not care for, we were given the opportunity to request teachers and they were honored if at all possible. I was able to avoid the couple of teachers that I did not care for. They may have been great, but I just felt that their style and personality didn't match my son. This really makes a difference; a child needs someone he is not intimated by to learn from. If they are afraid to ask questions, the teacher will never know if they need help.
This is my son's last year in elementary school. I have to say I do have reservations about our middle school and high school. After we built our home, they redistricted our community into one of the worst middle schools and high schools in our county. We have been considering private school, but the schools close to us are so expensive. We could put him through college cheaper than middle school and high school.
Sorry so long, but I know all information helps especially when our children are concerned.
DQS XP home Service pack 2
Hi there. I have a new computer and run XP home edition which contains service pack 2 and have never had a problem with DQS. My brother, however, ADDED service pack 2 to his older XP professional edition and had nothing but problems and eventually took it off. However, he downloads music and stuff and doesn't really know if the service pack was the problem. (He is not a transcriptionist, so no DQS info there.)
Hi! I'm the one who never has had a glitch, and I'm on XP with service pack 2! Maybe that's
Honestly, it is the fastest smoothest platform one could imagine - seamless, really. Never a problem - sound quality is perfect. I hate to say that, cause I'm not a MQ devotee, but the platform is truly awesome!
Yes - hubby is the pack rat. I throw everything that is not being used out.
After I read the newspaper, it is in the trash. Nothing sits around. Hubby would save everything; however, he works shift work, so when he is at work, I toss things in the trast. My home is neat and clean and everything is in its place all of the time!
Taught my 2 teens to be the same way - Love neat and clean and organized!
My home is not enjoyable if crap is everywhere - in my opinion.
Same here. I just pack my keyboard and plug it in.
There is no way I could be productive on a standard laptop keyboard.
Hi TIA, my DH is a former 7th grade teacher and now....
is a high school principal. Don't people like that ignorant poster above really burn you up? As the wife of a teacher, I can vouch for the long hours and dedication that teachers put in. My DH can talk you through a typical week that will prove that most teachers put in 12 months worth of full-time hours and MORE in the 9.5 months that they work. That doesn't even count the summer hours preparing for the next school year. I have sat home on my anniversary because my husband is off chaperoning a trip so the kids can attend a band competition a thousand miles away. We have spent endless dollars of our own supplementing these trips, buying things for needy students, and making "sports supervision duty" a family night out so we can spend a little time with hubby and Dad. Don't even get me started on the vandalism that we've incurred over the last 15 years. Shall I start with the car that some little gang banger started by pouring a gallon of gas into our car and setting it on fire, because he was suspended? Or how about the rocks put into our gas tank of our car? Teachers ought to get hazard pay! Wasn't an asst. principal just gunned down last week? Teachers don't become teaches for the money, believe me. Where else can you finish a bachelor's degree and an 18 month credentialing program for a whopping 25,000 dollars a year (in some areas, more in others). A car mechanic makes twice as much as that!!! So, I pretty much dismiss those people who think teachers sit on their butts all day and skate out the door at 2:30. Their kids are probably the worst of them all.
Low grade olive oil is the best.

Fourth grade
Sounds like she is in 4th grade (age 9)? Most people agree that that is a tough year. I remember it was for me and my twin sister. I was not comfortable with competitive sports, but I think it would have given me confidence (and an outlet for all the negative energy of anxiety) if I had taken martial arts after school, or gymnastics or something like that to give me confidence and strength.
Furman grade
NM
sorry, but this isn't grade school
When you get out of grade school and become an MT, try following the MT Book of Style, which contains the guidelines for this profession - whether you like it or not.
YOU, Busy MT'ing, are one of those that fail to reach mature conversation when you mockingly add
x
Could this entire conversation BE any more high school? Grow up, you guys, honestly.
Is there anything that could be changed so it works better with Windows XP and Svc. Pack 2. What a
pain this thing is.
he has been smoking on and off 1 pack of cigarettes for 5 years.
should be good for him.
Wouldn't that pack get stale or something, yuck!
tee hee, that's just frugal I think.
Remove Service Pack 3 and go back to
Service Pack 2. I had nothing but trouble with my computer with SP3. I do not have automatic downloads turned on. I go over to the microsoft.com website occasionally and see what is new for downloading. I choose the custom settings so I know exactly what is being uploaded.
Start
Control Panel
Add or Remove Programs
Find SP3 and remove it.
You need to download the conversion pack from Microsoft
website and then you should be able to convert your documents. Not sure if it will convert from Word 2003 or 2007 to WP5.1; however, WP5.1 can be converted to Word 2003 and higher.
grade versus stage
grades are regular numbers, 1, 2, 3, etc. Stages are I, II, III. It's easy to remember this way - The Romans are on the Stage.
I do think kindergarten and 1st grade might get a kick out of it.

Depends on which grade you will be teaching, but

1984. I was in 4th grade. I'm 32 and not ashamed to say!!
Good for you! Every vote counts!
grade typing back in the 60s...lol...sm
so today, that is kind of hard to change especially when you have everything saved (macros) the way we USED to type that....it's just THIS week, I'm trying to do only 1 space after a period and I'm older than dirt!! And I find that particular aspect of 1 space after a period very time consuming.........to make sure you didn't hit that space bar twice.
