My biggest fear of doing my own file or someone else I knew doing it would be to hear

I knew because I could literally hear it
I could hear the explosion(s) from where I lived, plus the hubby called me because he was on the bridge and he could see one of the Towers burst into flames. But I totally understand feeling kept in the dark. I don't remember anyone from my account calling me or discussing it with me. The first attack (when a truck exploded in the garage, I think, of the World Trade Center years before), I didn't find out about til I turned on the TV that night. I totally understand the isolation factor.
Fear of change is worse than fear of not being able to pay your bills? nm
:)
I hear it's very difficult to find the file..for obvious reasons I guess! LOL

Rename your normal.dot file to something else then restart Word. It will create a new file.
x
I think it is the same type of file, so rename it and replace your autocorrect file with your DQS us

Help..I lost my word file. How can I retreive a file that has been changed? sm
I was working on a large file and had saved it in Word. I then went back to work on the file and hit a key that made the page go blank. When I went to close the document it asked me to save any changes on the document. I answered yes, and now when I click on that document it is all blank! Shouldnt the previous info saved be there, even if the current stuff is not? Please help me!! Thank you
Depends on the file format of the Short Cuts file.
ShortHand comes with a utility file that can import various formats. You can get that file with the trial download of SH.

I knew him well before I asked him out, so I knew
a long time before our first date that he was the one for me. He didn't know it that soon, but I did.
Fear Factor is a like being an MT.
zz
Never fear, Sandy, because....
your little "problem" meeting TAT is quickly becoming solved with too much overstaffing, etc. among companies. This appears to be just YOUR problem. I would find it extremely hard to believe that an MT would deliberately try to undermine you by not working her committed work schedule. Goodness, all of this "craziness" because of one innocent question by Julia.
I am a single mom and have this fear every day
But, because I have to pay the bills, I cannot sit around. So I work 2 full-time jobs. I am eying my employee job carefully, b/c if it ever slows to the point where I cannot make rent, I will work 3 jobs and then let the 1 go which is faltering. Unfortuantely, I have been through what is happening to you but I was in a marriage. When I had to go out on my own, I realized how a person has to be secure in a job for all kinds of reasons, not just bills but self-esteem. I cannot tell you what to do nor is it my place to do so, I can only tell you where I have been and where I am now. Even if I had the ability to sit around and wait for work, I would not do it. I would first communicate and ask for full-time work. If no response I'd get a second or third job and do all until the time comes where I can judge which is the most consistent to pay bills. This is even if I did not have much sleep and raising a child alone. I am doing this now, and it is difficult, but I would rather lose sleep with a roof over my head and a good self-esteem, than sit and wait for work and let it eat on my bills and my confidence.
Sorry for the long note. Hope it helps. Good luck to you whatever you decide. PS: Listen to your heart.
...with your user.aco file. Save your autocorrect file to somewhere else. nm

You can save the SH file in a text file and import to IT that way. sm
You may have to do some cleanup in the SH text file, but it sure would be faster than re-entering them all manually.
File taxes under the name on file w Social Security....
Name on W2 doesn't have to match, but your tax return has to match SS records. They don't want your marriage license or anything else. Did that for 13 years as instructed by IRS. Didn't have to change it with SS until state changed rules requiring drivers license to match SS records. Still use my maiden name in some limited circumstances.
Has anyone been following Psycho Fear Factor?
I don't think the Bates Hotel looks all that bad - in fact it looks a lot like MY house! So far I think the worst torture was having that newly divorced couple sleep in the same bed! I guess they signed up for the show B4 they knew divorce wuz pending, LOL.
Wow, let's see, I remember when we could play outside without fear SM
and stayed outside and played from morning until night (we only came home for supper)...
When you could be a blue-collar worker and expect to make a living wage, and keep the same job all your adult life...
When going to the movies for 50 cents and sitting in the balcony was fun...
When you could say something without fear of offending someone and getting sued...
Ah, I remember...
I fear what the future holds too...
Those three beautiful souls growing up thinking this is the normal way to live. Call your family today and start planning to leave this creep. It won't be the easiest thing you've ever done, but it will be the smartest.
Not to discount your fear right now, but didn't her doc
advise her that the risks involved with surgery would include perforation of organs, and other complications, including death. Medicine is unfortunately an inexact science, and doctors are, after all, only human. May not be a clear cut case of malpractice, may "merely" be an unfortunate complication.
I've seen many people rush into a lawsuit, only to have their lives and money consumed by them, to find out they don't understand legal concept of malpractice and even if malpractice, if the insurance company has a better lawyer, you can lose anyway.
For now, I would focus my energy on praying rather than suing...
Saying you have to be "professional" to not fear about loss of a job
means all the people sending in posts about outsourcing, losing their jobs, worried about the possibility of such, are nonprofessional. I think this reaches a lot more MTs than just the "nonprofessionals." I hear their fears and know what it is, have been there before. I appreciate the post on my behalf and hope anger management is on hand for those who apparently cannot handle it. My goodness, just think about the season if nothing else...
I fear you tried the company out of Chicago?
nm
Forgot to mention - kids need fear of someone or something sm
that is my job as a mom, to make them fear authority and always try to do the right thing! I don't care how big they are, and my one son is 6'3" tall and weighs 250 lbs, I will still kick his ass and he knows it!
don't cheat yourself out a really good experience just because of fear...sm
I went to Africa in January to volunteer in a medical clinic for 18 days. Talk about leaving your comfort zone. There were two nights in particular where I really, really, really wished I wasn't there. But turned out to be a profoundly life changing experience. The word is "feel the fear but do it anyway."
No, that's next week's Psycho MT Fear Factor.
With FranQ substituting 4 Joe Rogan.
Not old but........Primal Fear! Excellent movie.

Complacency and fear of rocking the boat is a big
The biggest thing I like is---
They are FLEXIBLE. They don't call you up if you are in the bathroom to see why you aren't working. As long as you do your work, they don't bother you or restrict you to a strict schedule. That was a big turn-off for me when I talked with Spheris.
My biggest issue too. (sm)
Not only that, but I finish the part I wanted bolded, return, return, and use a shortcut for the next heading, and it changes that one to bolded. Grrrrr!
biggest complaint
would anyone else say that the biggest complaint as a Transcriptionist would be leg cramps and back pain? and what suggestions would you give to help?
Does anyone know what the 3 biggest MT companies are? nm
nm
Biggest Com;pany
Spheris may be #1 because they have a huge Indian work force now.
Biggest pitfall of being an IC
is no guarantee you will get paid. See post below about MTSO not paying.
One of my biggest pet peeves, since most of
Totally not MT related, but where is the new season of Fear Factor on NBC? nm
I don't watch fear factor. They abuse animals. I also have better
stuff to do with my time then watch someone eat pig intestines.
I'm with your son, although my faves are SF Rockstar and SF Sobe No Fear. VROOOM ... lol nm
I find they give the best, meticulous pt care by far. Why do you fear?
x
Their control obviously isn't putting fear in those that abuse the information though. nm
nm
The biggest pro for me is the TOTAL flexibility...
As long as I get the work done, I can do it when I want to without being chained to my computer.
Plus, I don't know why you think ICs net 50% less than if they work on an employee basis. I've worked as both an IC and employee and, although I don't have benefits, I make much more as an IC.
Thanks. That is encouraging. My biggest concern is
visiting family at holidays and other times. Do you bring some of your own food or just pick and choose from what is offered? Or do you go "off the lifestyle" and then make up for the damage later?
I never understood why NASCAR is the biggest
to watch cars go round and round and round and round for hours, days, weeks, months, years.......I get the gambling side of NASCAR but I don't get that it truly is (and IT TRULY IS!!!) the biggest spectator sport out there.
About $65 a month, but the biggest expense is
You have to purchase the equipment and pay for installation. The dish weighs about 75 lbs so if you don't want that weight on your roof, you can have it put on a pole in your yard and that's extra. Plus they charge to bury the line from the pole to your house ($3.25 a foot - I buried it myself). All total for me, including first month's service over $700. But, hey, when that's your only option, what do you do? There may be a company or something where you live that 'rents' the equipment for a small extra monthly fee - that's how we do our satellite TV so we don't pay for repairs. Satellite internet is not as fast as DSL or cable, but is still much faster than dialup. Plus, if you're an IC, it's all a tax writeoff. Hughes Net customer service stinks big-time and if you don't like them taking the monthly charge directly out of your checking account, they charge an extra $5 a month to mail you a bill. They know you have no other high-speed options and they have you over a barrel - so they stick it to you every way they can.
But these are hospital reports from one of the biggest
ones here in Atlanta. At 1 time it was no name and change to the patient and now, all 4s, when the dictator dictates their name, you put the name. I know darn good and well they supposedly go along with the HIPPA or whatever the initials are because when it first came out they were given out and we had to read. These are definitely not clinic notes.
That's one of my biggest fears -- my heart goes out to you. sm
I volunteer for a local food back through United Methodist Open Door. They do not provide money for rent or anything, but they will give you some food and a referral to other agencies that provide assistance. They do ask for proof of income, but if you are experiencing a short-term situation, they will help you. They never turn anyone away hungry. I am sure there are such things in your area as well.
I hope you find some help. I am sure it is very scary right now. I will keep yo in my prayers. Good luck to you. Hope you heal quickly.
Your biggest problem will be with OP Notes.
I would buy the newest editions of Stedman's Surgical Word Book, Stedman's Medical Equipment Word Book, and Tessier's Surgical Word Book. Those three books will be your best friends in hospital transcription.
I would also invest in Stedman's Lab and Pathology Word Book too because you'll run across a lot of lab tests you've never heard of and would probably never hear about in the clinic setting.
How does one distinguish biggest issue
I've been at this a couple of years now and still too slow. Aside from my own issuse of looking things up, getting my Expanders accumulated, etc., I am wondering how to sort out some of the technical issues.
I hear a lot of talk about platforms, but I think the one I am using is ok (what excactly should I be looking for to determine that?). Also, I noticed the computer seems fairly slow in general. I use the Internet for searches, but it seems it takes longer than it should if I put a word into the dictionary search or acronym search, and so on. (I have some books but just as slow with them and need different glasses right now so have trouble reading them.)
I am certain we need more RAM, but it also seems our connection has slowed down as well. Connecting to the server takes longer than it used to and the e-mail opens up more slowly.
On top of all that, the data screen slows me down. There is always something that causes trouble, like, if they don't say a certain thing, then delete something else and check a box ... Or, they will enter a doc's name, but it needs to go in a different field, so we have to move it.
Any thoughts on these things and tips on how to work around it the best I can? Thanks a bunch!!
Fear of change. Kinda like I am when I am faced with learning a new acct.
dd
I wanted to learn it, but I fear the learning curve would be impossible. sm
since I can't take any time off from the qwerty keyboard. How did you make the conversion?
Brain dead today - or is it hear hear? I'm going to bed.
nm
Marry me?! :) Seriously...hear, hear. Good post. - nm

My biggest problem is the babysitting requests...
This is my biggest problem.. Every mother within a 20-mile radius thinks I am their emergency backup babysitter. I lost a friend over this. She asked me to babysit, I said no, she showed up at my door anyway and begged me to take her kid, and I refused. She hasn't spoken to me since. Several other mothers have expected the same thing, some that I don't even really know, and I have had to be very firm and stand my ground.
