that is supposed to be like Shorthand. But, in any case, check with tech support at ShortHand about compatibility with your program.

Speedtype is also the exact same program as Shorthand, but Speedtype is a lot more expensive.
SpeedType AND ShortHand both come with a converter file that will import your AutoCorrect entries to either program. You do not have to pay Betsy to do that unless you flat can't figure out how to do it. It's not at all hard to do. Productivity Talk has posts that even tell you how to do it -- for FREE.

Reading further, I see that Mr. Vance is not, in fact, the founder. Donna Littrell, CEO of Elite Office Solutions has started this organization and Mr. Vance is simply noting that (he did join, however). My only question was as to whether current members of AHDI including CMTs would join this new organization without rescinding their previous affiliation. It just seems that the two organizations would be in direct conflict with each other. If AHDI members don't join I would understand that, but if they do join, then I would be concerned that it's bogus. How could you fight against outsourcing and belong to AHDI? Sorry if I caused any confusion by attributing this organization to Jay Vance.

To all who read my ad in the job seeker's forum, I offer my deepest apologies. I am a subcontractor who has always subcontracted since becoming a medical transcriptionist. Because "business" is booming, I decided to "treat" myself to an Editor to knock my 16 hour days down to 8. I dutifully went on line and looked for statistics on what the going rate was, and found many, many stating .02 to .03 cpl as standard. These must have been old websites. I did not do this out of greed, but out of ignorance, and the ad has been removed. Again, I apologize for hurting so many feelings and will make sure I get my facts straight the next time I place an ad.

It is great that things are good for you and you are not seeing the issues a lot of us do in this profession, but for the rest of us to make light of them and pretend they do not exist is not going to make it any better.
We should be standing together. Even if you are doing great, you have a lot of sisters who are not. In fact, many are hurting real badly right now.

I do apologize for the argumentative post, and I'm glad you realize it's an ad. Pay no mind to most of the emails, as the *other* crew frequently sends emails on anything they can think of. My gut reaction to argue was simply because of the repeated posts about viruses (which these are not) and the fact that so many people believe they are. Kudos to you for knowing the difference, but I did want to point out to others that it wasn't something attacking their computer. I have run adware/spyware scans on my computer 3 times a week since my introduction to the bad aspect of those, and each time I run them I get a minimum of 20. I don't click on ads, so I thought this was the norm just from going on websites. However, your post makes me think otherwise. Now, if you can tell me how to block them from every site...I will most certainly hail you guru.

I would not know what to do wihtout my Stedmans SmartType. It is a lifesaver. I do not know what my percentage increase would be but it saves a lot of time that would otherwise be spent looking up words.

If you buy SmartType it comes with its own words (tons of rare medical spellings), however, if you want definitions you would need a dictionary. I love SmartType.
I tried SmartType sm
and I was like you with Instant Text. I couldn't get used to it at all. It drove my lines way down to like 45 lines an hour. I said to heck with that! I correspond with another MT who endorses SmartType, too, and tells me it has increased her speed. To me it was too distracting seeing the SmartLine and all that other hoopla on the bottom. Is there a secret to it?

Can anyone tell me if Smarttype works with Meditech. Just started account using Meditech. I have Smartype, but did not install because program I was using had its own really great expander, But of course, Meditech does not. Help?

had that happen first-hand my first year of transcription...supervisor took all normals, easy dictators, etc., all to score points with the Medical Director - constantly making everyone think she was some kind of wizard on the keyboard (haha, it is funny now, but all of us in the office knew exactly what she was doing...)

Dictaphone Extext & Smarttype
Does anyone use Stedmans Smartype in conjunction with Dictaphone Extext/Word Client? If so, how do you disable the cc (shortcuts) in Extext? I am using Word 2000 so I know Smartype works with that but not sure about using in with Extext/Word Client.

SH may not work either. You might want to go to the SH website and contact tech suppor. They may be able to tell you. Good luck.

SmartType will run in Word client programs sm
I know this because I have used it in MedRite XL, Extext, MTWorld and Winscribe. There are a couple of others out that it will run with. Sometimes you have to futz a bit (Extext), but it will run.
SmartType is wonderful and I am VERY productive with it, BUT it will limit your career and flexibility somewhat if that is all you can or will use. It has to have Word or an actual Word client, you can't link it to IM, email or a funny platform like you can IT for instance. (SH will also do this.)
Unless you tend to stay at a job for years at a time, AND it is a Word client like Extext, it is best you have IT or SH because they are portable from one system to another. Much as I love ST and have used it for over 10 years, I can't unreservedly recommend it to anyone.
I think ShortHand and SmartType offer free trials. nm

Yeah, just like ABCZ which I used in auto correct and SmartType, I think.
Bottom line, they increase production, TAT, quality and salary. My company provides us with 2 different ones because they are like a raise in wages. And companies have less employes and taxes, everyone is happy.'

I agree with you 100%. I purchased SpeedType a couple of years back and hated the program! It not only doesn't help with productivity, it also has the annoying window that stays open at the bottom while you're typing--which I found highly distracting. After trying the program out for a couple of weeks (hoping I would get used to it), I uninstalled and stored the CD in a filing drawer, where it still sits today!
I use speedtype with DQS
They told me it wouldn't work, but I tried anyway - it works just fine. It is not part of DQS of course, but sits open in my systray and works just as if I were using it in Word or any other program.

Can anyone tell me how to find the AutoCorrect entries in MS Word (name of file) to send to Speedtype for conversion into Speedtype?? TIA!

I am looking for the Expander that lists the expansion suggestions next to the cursor so I do not have to look at the bottom of the monitor all of the time. Speedtype Questions
I have just begun utilizing this program and I love it, but I am still trying to learn how to use it. My question is with headings. Is there a way to save certain templates with the bolded headings to be retained? It would save me an immense amount of time if I could just type the short cut and have my template come up with it already bolded. Any suggestions would be so greatly appreciated!
I don't know a thing about SpeedType, but you
can download a free 30-day trial of ShortHand to get an idea of how it works. I know several companies whose own systems utilize ShortHand or recommend ShortHand.

It is SpeedType, which is the same as ShortHand, which is
spf compatible I believe.
It looks exactly like Shorthand and SpeedType.
It expands with the spacebar and punctuation. You do have to make up your own shortcuts and you can have more than one dictionary file, but you can't have duplicate shortcuts like you can with Instant Text. All of these programs are better than AutoCorrect because there is no limit to the number of shortcuts (there is with AutoCorrect), and it works in most programs instead of just Word.
You'd have to download the trial to figure out whether or not you like it.
Don't even THINK about purchasing Speedtype. There are absolutely no
medical words whatsoever and you have to add everything. Why in the world would the AAMT support this product and not any of the others? I spent over 160.00 on this product and my productivity has increased by ZERO.
I emailed for a refund and have heard nothing. I just hope that when I go to "resell" it they allow me with their licensing regulations!
Now I have to spend an extra 200.00 for InstantText which I should have purchased in the beginning - Can you imagine? 500.00 in the hole just to find which expander is best for you??/ I am highly livid right now.

I've used Speedtype for almost 2 years
and I love it! I have verson 8. It's very easy to use, particularly when changing dates every day, etc. Once I'm at the beginning of a new month, just delete the whole prior month and begin again. It's easy to format anything. If I have one word or a small grouping, it's easy. If I have a large chunk of dictation, that's easy too. The woman who sells it is extremely helpful. I've never had one bit of problem since it was installed. And does it help with productivity - absolutely!
What is the difference between Shorthand and SpeedType?
Hi I've been using ShortHand for a couple months now but I just downloaded the trial of SpeedType to check it out. It seems that the two are EXACTLY the same! How is it possible for two different manufacturers to have the exact same program? It looks the same, all the functions appear to be the same. This is really bizarre.
I must be missing something. Are there ANY differences between Shorthand and SpeedType? If so, what are they? Why would someone pay twice the price for SpeedType if it is exactly the same?? Thanks.
I have both Instant Text and SpeedType...
but also have AutoCorrect and AutoText entries. AutoCorrect/Text work fine for many MTs. I hate the hand movements necessary for IT, although love what it can do as far as multiple glossaries and automatically creating entries from reports. I think SpeedType is a high-priced version of AutoCorrect.
With AutoCorrect alone I type anywhere from 200-400+ lph depending on the account I'm working on and whether it is a new one to me. I've tried and used multiple expansion software and stand by my statement that AutoCorrect is a good expander.
It's just fine if you don't agree. Whatever floats your boat.
