My kids are allowed on extracurricular activity a piece. My daughter is taking one dance class

week and my son will be starting basketball at school in a month and that is it aside from church activities.  I definitely think parents push their kids to do too much.  Not only is it stressful for the kids, but I can imagine the added stress of parent who works full time having to keep track of each other's schedules, the kids' schedules, and running to and fro taxing kids back and forth!

I worry about my nephew.  He's 13 and he plays every sport there is.  He broke his knee playing fooball two years ago and now has to wear a knee brace in every sport he playes, he's 13!  Right now, he is playing 7th grade football, he is in two different soccer leagues, and he is signing up for a football outside the school system.  So he basically has some sort of practice or a game every day of the week and on Saturdays!  He has strained his back, he complains about his knee aching.  When I say something to my sister about him overdoing it, she says "he does want he wants, we're not making him."  I've told her that she is his mother and it's really up to her to set limits, but she loves the idea that she's the mom of a "star athlete."

Anyway, just a sore subject with me, I guess.  I'm really close to my kids and all my neices and nephews and I hate to see them miss out on the fun in life just because they feel they have to schedule everything!

Look at it this way, he will probably need it for more than 1 class eventually; or my daughter
needed Word which at the time I did not have, so our alternative was for her to stay after school and use their computers as I could not afford the program then.
I have always worked 2 except for when my daughter got sick - sm
last year. Then I worked very sporadically for 1 job, very PT for about 6 months. I went back to 2 in Sept 05-- both are PT, one is close to FT though. The very PT one is mine now and my other PT job is my B&B though. Planning on branching out and sending out some flyers/brochures though and see what happens this summer/fall. But is is safer (and smarter I think) not to work for just 1 company. If they can you or get bought out, etc. and you are without a job, then what?
aerobics class 3x a week
gets me out of the house and mix with other people which helps, too.
44-year-old WF, M, Texas, 3 grown kids, just had 26 year wedding anv.

I have a 15 year old daughter....
and it is also a 16 mild trip to pick her up...but yet every day I am there and I will be no matter what the cost of gas. I would not trust an inexperienced teen driving my daughter. The price of gas is becoming outrageous yes...but your daughter's life is priceless.

My daughter got married a year ago and
she, too, wanted something different. She had a small reception (about 75). Instead of having a "traditional" cake, she opted for a cupcake tree, which we did ourselves. We simply stacked cupcakes on tiered platters that were decorated with beaded pearls and tiny day lilies that we found at Hobby Lobby. It was very unique and so pretty. This might not be anything you would be interested, but thought I would pass it along anyway. BTW, congratulations on your coming wedding!
When my daughter got married last year,
a lot the pictures were taken before the ceremony, but some were taken between the ceremony and the reception. During that time, the servers for the reception got the final things ready and the guests graciously waited on the bride and groom to begin the reception that was, after all, in their honor.
Daughter's friend drove her car into a pond the first week she had her license! Let him prove him

My 5-year-old daughter in a dress-up outfit.

IC - 30 hours week, $98K last year. So far this year - 28K. sm
Individual IC - own account(s).
My daughter got married a year ago and didn't wear
a veil. She chose a tiara instead.
I made a whole $12K this year, granted when my daughter got cancer in March - sm
my income took a big hit as I went "on leave" from my FT job, and cut back on my PT job drastically. I did not get back to working a more normal schedule until October. I now work 2 PT jobs. So had I not had a 6 month hit in the pocket book I expect I would have made over $20K this year, not a fortune. My goal for 2006 is $24K, and as I am going to try my best to "work smart", I should be able to acheive that, staying disciplined is the key, of which I am sorely lacking. I am lucky that I don't have to live on this though, I'd be starving. As it is I have to play catch up on a lot of bills since I lost 6+ months of income, not fun.
My daughter's 1 year cancer checkup was good on Tuesday -sm
so I am very happy. She is just past 1 year off chemo (08-17-05). She is on 3-month checkups (has been for the past year) and all looks well so that is always cause for much happiness around here!
My daughter already started 1st grade - year-round school. Yippee! (nm)

Last year, we took the kids out and were not
home to give out candy, so, we had none to give, obviously. Well, someone saw us return home, which was after 8:00, the end of trick or treat for my area, and they rang our doorbell. The outside light was off and everything. We did not answer the door and needless to say then smashed all of our pumpkins on the road! LOL. Hope that doesn't happen again this year. People are sick!
I could support my three kids by myself on $32,000 per year.
I don't have many bills, just mortgage, utilities, groceries, insurances, and a small car payment.  I have other career fields I can go back to if I didn't feel like doing MT any more, but this is what I want to do for now.
My 5-year-old goes to the sitter 3 days a week....sm
4 if I need her to.  The 1-2 days she's home I have lots of arts and craft things for her to do and she'll play with her toys.  I do take frequent breaks to check on her when she's here.   She is allowed to watch TV 2 hours a day so she'll usually pop in a movie while I'm working or watch PBS.
We rented a house last year for a week
cheaper than a hotel. The house was a 4 bedroom, 3 bath home, dining, kitchen, living room, covered pool/patio, washer and dryer and alarm system. I paid a little over $400 for the whole week (7 days) because hotels go by number of people. We went to the grocery store and stocked up on food and for the money we saved we rented a car. We stayed in Kissimmee. Check out www.vamoose.com
Hmm...so far? Is she going to be like that 70-year-old who birthed twins last week??
You never know these days!
My 4-year-old male cat has been sneezing this past week and
he's never done this before.  He has no other symptoms that I can see--eating & drinking fine, no runny nose or eyes. He's never had this before. He is primarily a housecat, but goes out in the mornings for a couple of hours to roam around. His shots are current. Does anyone know if this is a sign of something serious?
$44,000 last year at 7.75 cpl with wonderful bonuses at maybe 30-35 hours a week, BUT
then my bonuses were cut when we went to a new system and now I have to work 60-70 hours a week to make the same. So, really there are too many variables here.
Glad to see MT Week recognized here. My company did nothing this year. We have always sm
received a nice gift in the mail in the past.  I'm not saying I expect an expensive gift or anything, but a thank you of some sort would have been nice.  I waited to post this, holding hope that maybe they were late like last year in sending stuff out, but I have pretty much given up now.  Thanks MT Stars!!
Heck, having kids deletes brain cells, year after hear!

Made 60K last year working 50 hours a week being paid on gross line
nm
I did that with 2 kids with time mgmt and a high school girl who babysat 3 days a week after school

I AM SICK, SICK, SICK AND TIRED

Of bad dictators and QA that takes up for them!!!!  I am sick to death of:

1.  Doc saying paragraph after every sentence.

2.  Docs never dictating the first name of doc they are writing to.

3.  QA asking us to insert certain sentences in certain places for certain doctors who do not dictate them.

4.  Docs wanting their own specific headings but not dictating them.

5.  Docs who ramble, never saying period.

6.  QA asking us to **fix** their grammer, mistakes, fragmented sentences, and verb tenses and sometimes when we do, we are docked points for **not transcribed as dictated.**

7.  QA not wanting anything sent to them, stating **researach medical terms and facilities you are not familiar with.**  If they are not there to help us out, what are they doing there????

8.  Docs, NPs, and PAs who do not know how to dictate, pronounce, or spell.

9.  QA asking us to use BOS, but not knowing it themselves.

10.  Doing work I do not get paid for.

Before QA became involved, in years gone by, if a doc's dictation was awful - then that is what he got for transcription and more times than not, they would straighten up and make a better effort.  Not now - we or QA has to almost do the dictation for them!!  They are the ones with the medical degree - not us.  What happened to us just transcribing what is dictated.  Why can't they be responsible for what prints out??  If someone could let them know how much trouble their dictation style causes, it would cut my transcription time in half.  My list could go on and on.  It is a terrible time to be thinking about getting out of the business, but if this crap keeps up - I have to give it some serious consideration.  The job just AIN'T what it used to be.

Is there engineer week? Astronaut week? Veterinarian week?

Do little kids like caramel? My big kids won't even eat it! We make the basic Baker's chocolat

Typically this week is a slow week in lots of places

because it is a big vacation week.  Typically things slow dow a bit in the summer too because people are putting off elective surgery, but at the same time lots of people going on vacation so it should balance out.

Lowest runs $900 week, highest $1400 week (sm)
Get paid 12 CPL. Been doing transcription for about 12 years.
I never said you shouldn't have kids! Feeling guilty? I asked WHY you had kids.
You clearly stated in your post that you ship the kids off to camp all day, and they're TIRED AT NIGHT!!  You know exactly what you said.  You said it as a PERK - AS IN GREAT! They're gone all day, it wears them out, and so I shovel dinner in their mouths and off to bed!  You can try to paint it any way you want, but YOU SAID IT.  Again, I only hope your kids never hear you speak that way or write that way. Shame on you.  Why have kids at all?  Just another parent who has them, gets rid of them for day AND night, BRAGS ABOUT IT, and then calls ME wicked!  Give me a break!  Camp is fine - its WHAT YOU SAID AND YOU KNOW IT.  Your own words showed your heart. Period.
Kids are demanding and so is MT work. My question is how CAN you do this with kids, rather than how
When you have two young kids, 11 months apart, (like I stated they are now 4 and 5) and have been doing this since they were born with no help from their father and no family around, YES, the kids get neglected. Part time might work but living on one salary, part time, is not an option. How can you possible tell me that anyone with two young kids can stay at home and work a full-time, 8-hour shift, and still give their kids the attention they NEED. I dont care how good you are at multitasking and how great your organizational skills are. It is a very difficult thing to do. And I am offended by your post making it sound as if it is easy to do.

I do agree that it can depend on how well your kids behave and how well they are able to play on their own. But my kids were not able to play well on their own. They needed constant attention.

So please take the time to realize that there are people out there in different situations than your own.

Reading our posts should help you to understand that everyone has a different situation. I believe everyone should have the right to shares their experiences as it might benefit the original poster in her questions and concerns.

I dont think anyone should be bashed for taking the time out to write about their experiences. I dont usually come on here to argue but you really ticked me off with your post. And try reading the post correctly. I said next time around I would have put them in day care. What I DID do with them was set them up to an activity like art or put on a movie for them. Geez.
Stayed "because of the kids?" I say "leave because of the kids"
You're in no position to buy right now. Keep saving, keep paying down your bills, and for heaven's sake get rid of that dead weight of a BF you're living with. You can do better.
So, should I return the $75 (x2 kids) in music cards I got the kids for x-mas...sm
My son has been telling me about free music sites and I was very leary.  How do they skirt the law Radguy?
I don't have kids, but my Mom was from the "old school," and still had everyone, kids inclu

call her by her first name.  The little neighbor girl next door from the time she could speak called her Aggie (my mom's first name), and they were great buddies until the day my mom pased away.

I don't think there really is much in a name, but more in the respect you are given and the way you are treated.   Personally, I kind of cringe inside when someone calls me Ms. Anything or God forbid, "maam" (makes me feel like Methuselah!) ... I'm always just plain Merrie.  :-)

But, as someone pointed out, to each his own.  If you want to be addressed a certain way, you have that right, and people should respect that.  I'm glad you corrected the child ... hope it "sticks."

I work 6 days a week every other week

Due to my company's payroll (it runs Sun-Sat), I'm able to work a rotating schedule with every other weekend off. Week 1 I work Sunday through Thursday with Fri, Sat, Sun off.  Week 2 I work Monday through Friday with Saturday only off.  Then I'm back to week 1 and get that following weekend off.

I've found that I'm more productive with shorter shifts and I have kids in school anyway, so I work a lot of split shifts during the week.  If possible, you might want to consider cutting back your hours to 30 hours and just work five 6-hour days in split shifts, 3 in the morning and 3 in the evening.

Please do not simply give up, kids or no kids!
Talk with a professional. This can be worked through if he really puts forth the effort and you participate. The right counseling can truly make your marriage even better than it was before, if BOTH parties are willing to be honest. Give it a try. Nothing to lose at this point and everything to gain!
Mine are in year-round thank goodness! They've started their new year 2 months ago.

MT class

I am wondering about how much transcribing is expected to be done a day.  Number of reports, lines or maybe pages.  I only have my students two times a week for one hour at a time.  I don't want to give them too much or too little.  Thank you.

What a class act
I think your line "Shove it where the sun don't shine" says it all.  Medquist must be so proud to have you as an employee.
class
If you are classified as a Statutory Employee you can use the deduction.  Be very careful.  Got to irs.gov pulldown menu self-employed......You don't have to guess.  You have to know the square footage of your dwelling, the square footage of the room you use as an office to get a % of what is used for work.  Add up all of the utilities, interest, mortage, and multiply the %.  That is your deduction.   Sch C is probably easier.  Home off deduction does you NO good if you have a NOL (net operating loss) from business earnings.
And then there is no class
NM
I also did this. One class from my BA.
I'm weighing my options and may go ahead towards a Master's degree but ultimately, I did so for the same reasons. In 5 years there are going to be so many MTs vying for fewer jobs that it will drive down wages and I'm not going there. So, I'll just learn to do something else.
You said it - in a word - class
The man just does his job (extremely well)and goes home to his family. No stupid hollywood publicity stunts, no games.
The class action against MQ by MTs should be about

forget about Ricca laws and tying it to hospitals and line counts.

They have lied and done smoke and mirrors to the point that there

probably could be a case made for that alone.

And why do we never hear anything more about the SEC case?

And the FBI case against MQ for sending military information over

unsecured lines?

What happened to all that?

We met in a Flirting class!
