I took my bead-filled wrist pillow and put it under my heel -- wow, what relief! Just thought i might not be the only one, so wanted to share!

My heels hurt so bad after several hours of using my foot pedal that I can hardly work. It is due to resting my heel on the floor and tapping the foot pedal all day long. After a weekend of rest the pain will subside, but flares back up during the week. Any suggestions as what I can do?
Try putting phone book next to pedal so your foot is flat and not angled on heel. NM

How soft is the touch, is it a muffled sound (microsoft used to make a very soft touch keyboard.
You can't buy it anymore and I hate the clacky ones. I think a really soft one sounds muffled when you hit the key. Thanks

Wrist pad
Wrist pad -- good idea. I've had a heel spur the whole summer and never thought using my pedal could be aggravating it. I use a foot rest type thing that my pedal sits on. I'm going to try my extra wrist pad to rest my foot on and see what happens.
Soft
Some of the type that fit into your ears are really soft and squishy and pretty comfortable. I use some of those with good success. They had a bigger end that would rest outside the ear, but I got rid of that by cutting them in half (horizontally). Only about 1/3 of an inch is left.
Even amongst that type of plugs, some are squishier than others. You might have to try a couple to find ones you like.
They can get kind of grubby looking, but I just wash them with soap and water and give them a day or so to dry. Usually at least a few pair come in a package.
P.S. You could resort to the ole broomstick on the ceiling message. : )

 Does anyone here have trouble with tendonitis? I woke up this morning and could hardly move my hand. My new keyboard is flatter than is comfortable for me. I usually like them to be on a tilt. Any suggestions on how to mend fast and to avoid this problem in future?

Yes but this new keyboard I have is not as slanted as I am used to.
I use a gel wrist pad. I also have the keyboard SM
in a comfortable position. Ergonomics are essential and you don't have to pay a lot for it. A good chair also helps. Mine has armrests, which I can adjust. Good luck.

I always get something even though it is just candy but my husband was being practical this year and bought me a new wrist pad as my other one was ratty. The new one is great, I just have to get use to it.

I started using oregano oil about five years ago for wrist pain. I used to wear braces and get ganglions. At one point, I couldn't even pick up a jug of milk and was worried about driving because my wrists would send shooting pains while steering my car causing me to release the steering wheel in reaction to the pain. I am CURED now because of the oregano oil. I buy it at health food stores or on-line and I apply it directly to my wrists at the first sign of pain. I have not used wrist supports since starting with oregano oil and no longer form ganglions. I LOVE IT!!!

Does anyone recommend a certain kind of wrist support to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome? It looks like there are so many to choose from.

 I have done/tried a lot of different keyboards/splints/gloves/trays ect. The only thing that has made my wrists/hands stop hurting is a Kinesis keyboard. I have the Advantage. They are costly, but well worth every penny spent and your typing speed will increase once you get the hang of it. I love mine. They will pry it away from my cold hands one day. Not giving it up ever.

Hi everyone!
I am having an issue with just my left wrist. It feels like it keeps locking up, and is pretty painful if I just let my hand dangle (like if you hold your arm out and relax your wrist so your fingers are going towards the ground). I only started working in April as an MT, and I am only 21. Do you think it could just be deconditioning or is it something I should get checked out? I don't have insurance right now so I really am trying to avoid a doctor's visit but I don't want to mess myself up permanently this young!

And one time my elbow and all up my arm was hurting. I think I need to find some good wrist supports. I have bought 2 different pairs but I can't do the ones with the fingers on them. I need the ones that are just the wrist and no fingers.

Mine burn like they are on fire all the time from my elbows down to my hands. I take Advil and get acid reflux. My back . .. hurts all the time. I feel like I'm 90!

When you have burning a nerve is involved. Have you tried Alpha lipoic acid? It is a supplement which can be purchased at wally world, etc. and it not too expensive. I use it all the time for burning in my leg (had back surgery). I take it twice a day. Also I take B6 for carpal tunnel. The doc said to take up to 400 mg per day. It does help me and kept me from having to have carpal tunnel surgery for a few years. I still take it for the left wrist thought. Hope this helps you.

I used to have wrist pain years ago and thought I would not make it in this job. A hand therapist at the hospital I worked for evaluated my typing position and told me to be sure my keyboard was not tilted and was flat on the desk, and that my hand/fingers were level with the wrists, and the wrists were level with the elbows (90-degree angle); therefore, the lower arm including hand/fingers should be straight (not angled upward or downward) and level with the keyboard. This was awkward at first but amazingly, by the end of my first day, I actually had no more wrist pain or even shoulder pain.

You know I have only been with Soft Script for about a month and I am really beginning to wonder why they will not explain line counts and how they come up with them one day their website shows 138 lines for me and my line counter program shows 245 what is up with this? Anyone else out there feel the same? Or you ask a question and the The BIG HEAD WOMAN rips your face off.

When I first started 4 months ago with SS I thought it was great but now I am seeing the light shed on some of what people are talking about on this message board. I wish I had been a little more patient and research this company before accepting their offer, I may have missed out on a good job opportunity as I turned down another offer and went with SoftScript but I guess I will never know. If nothing else my experience with them has been a lessen well learned. PLEASE, look at the numbers, compare the number of people on this board that oppose to those that agree with SoftScript and it will tell you the real truth, the numbers do not lie and as far as the line counts go let me add this....I work for two companies. A small company I have been employed with for the past 7 years and SoftScript I have been employed with for the past 4 months. On the same day with the small company for approximately 4 hours work I transcribed 61 reports with 1200 lines very easily with minimal effort, with SoftScript (now remember this is on the same day) for approximately 8 hours, working as hard as I could I transcribed over 100 reports with under 900 lines. This tells me something is definitely wrong with the line counting. Needless to say I am turning in my notice to SoftScript and seeking new employment.

What I'm saying is the doc feels around for position sometimes and that's probably why he said soft. Contractions make it hard, oh, and also huge babies, like mine. Ouch!!
Soft abdomen
On abd. exam, they're checking the actual abdomen, not the uterus and whether it's contracting or not.
As in a non-gravid exam, the abdomen can be soft, rigid, with guarding, rebound, etc. They're looking for the abdominal signs, not the uterine signs.
So - your abdomen can be soft, and you could be in the middle of a whopper contraction!

Not meaning to be sexist, but the soft talkers are usually women, sometimes almost whispering like they are trying to be extra confidential or something. I can max out my volume but still strain to hear them.

I wear wrist supports,
and with the wrist rest attached it puts my fingers/hands/wrists at an angle that isn't comfortable for me.

I'm a single MT IC. I broke my wrist 12/31, had surgery and now have a cast. I worked a few days, but very painful and slow. Typing with one hand now. Haven't worked for 8 days. No work. No pay. Anyone else been in this situation? Did you apply for disability?

use, i.e. women who do a lot of crochet work have some elastic stretch wrist supports. I used them once when I was pretty new to typing 8 hours at a time when my hand muscles were weak and my fingers had a mind of their own. I haven't used them for years, but I did like them. I thought to try these out http://www.scriphessco.com/itemdetail.asp?cat=313106&MENU=313106&item=705+0002 Also note that pain in the hands can be caused by pressure on the ulnar nerve (right under the elbow at the forearm) eventually, which can be relieved by using a down-feather filled pad you can make yourself (not goose feather, but actual goose down). I know one gal who had her ulnar surgical relocated.
There are other things to look out for, like pain in the hips, lower back, neck, shoulders, ....

Soft Script and Accustat
I am busting my hump trying to learn SS (I am a newbie with some experience but under a year) and I also am an IC for Accustat, now I have to really work for hours on end to try to get a line count for SS and on my Accustat its a nice account where I can have a line count with normal speed and hardly any ESL's
So basically here is my problem should I keep working for SS ( i have had no problems with pay, of course I don't make much of a line count) or should I just do my Accustat account and quit SS
Did I forget to mention I also have a day job....lol (My hope is to just MT and make some money someday)
SS takes out taxes and IC does not so I going to just go with SS but reading all of these posts makes me think just do my IC job for awhile and stop working three jobs busting my but
Get a soft neck collar and try
Roll up a towel and put it under your neck when you sleep for support. If you don't get a collar you can also use a rolled towel and pin it while you're working.

Because real estate is so soft right now, there are
a lot of home for sale and it's difficult to sell. I would not recommend selling by owner or going through a by owner agent. If the market was hot like it was before it wouldn't be a problem, but right now you need a bulldog real estate agent to represent you. As well, you'll probably want to consider offering some incentive to any third party agents. That's what I had to do. There are so many brand new housing developments out there and the incentives that are being offered are crazy. I had to be competitive because my house was not brand new, but had a ticket price that was about the same as a brand new house. I did sell, but I took about $15,000.00 less than what I had hoped for. The good news for me is that I don't have dual house payments anymore. Good luck!
Soft Flex forsure
I wear my SoftFlex gloves daily. I agree that after 15 minutes without them you can definitely tell a difference. I also have the Smart Glove- (had to dig them out of a drawer to make sure what the name was). To me they are just plain awkward. The bean-bag feeling is weird and feels like more of a strain on my wrists to type with, like my wrists are too elevated or something. Wore them once. My vote would be SoftFlex!

It's not muffled soft, but clicky-ish; however...
it still has a somewhat light touch, and my wrists aren't in pain anymore, which was a big thing with me.
Wrist splints for carpal tunnel....
Go to your local drug store and purchase the best pair available and then wear them nightly faithfully. They help tremendously! (At least me, but everyone's different...)
i use cockup wrist splints at night.
it really helps, uncomfortable, but by morning, they feel better.
I have a great chiropractor who adjusts my wrist.
Might call some local DCs in your area and see if any of them do wrists/CPS. I'm currently lucky enough to have insurance that pays a small portion, but even without he only charges $45 for visit, which is well worth it to me.
Anyway, just another suggeston/idea for you.
