Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000?

More about keyboards ... I don't think I would like the big MS 4000, because when I tested out large ones in the store one day, it felt too big and awkward for me; however, I did try a smaller one with just a slight curve that felt quite good.  (Unfortunately, I don't remember what make/model it was as I was not really shopping for one at the time.)

When looking around the web, it looks like it might have been the MS Comfort Curve 2000.  Does anyone have any experience with that one?

Thanks for any feedback.

Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 keyboard
I read where some MTs were enjoying this keyboard, and they are quite inexpensive, so DH picked one up for me at Tiger Direct. Whoever recommended it is right; it has an quick touch for me and you can switch from a straight keyboard and it won't slow you down like most of the ergonomic keyboards. I usually like a very clicky touch, and this isn't like that. But the key action is quick and you barely have to touch them to activate the keys. The backspace is double-wide too. Since there is no space in the middle like so many ergonomic keyboards, there is no issue about reaching the 6 with your preferred hand, either.
You want the Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 keyboard. Google it. nm

Microsoft ergonomic 4000 with enhanced curve. Love it!

The keys are very soft to touch, keys are easy to hit and the wrist pad is a very comfortable soft, leather-like material.  It only has a USB plug-in but you can get an adapter. I paid $60.00 for it at OfficeMax.  It was well worth it. I will never use another keyboard!

Microsoft ComfortCurve 2000.
It has a quiet clicky sound and touch, and the keys don't move far, but respond nicely. You might like it.

Some have a different learning curve than others

I had an in-house job for 3 years, hired in off the street, no experience.  Three months later, another girl hired in, same situation.  Paid hourly, no ESL, and we had the opportunity to talk to the doctors in person about any issue.

By the time I left, I was the highest producer in the office.  She was still struggling with the simplest words and phrases, still asking the same questions she asked the week she hired in, still needing help from somebody else all day long. She would cry from frustration because she couldn't get her act together.  Other people that hired in after her got the hang of it much faster and were soon helping her too.  I asked management on many occasions why they just didn't show her the door, and they said I was being harsh and that some people just couldn't learn as fast as others.  I wonder why she didn't just go find a different kind of job instead of hanging around driving herself and everyone else nuts.

There's a learning curve

In time it all gets better.  Usually.  Some people aren't cut out to be MTs, for them it never gets better.  I felt the way you do when I started out in-house (no former training).  But I was stubborn, and I learned, and knew I was getting better.  Then I started working at home - BIG learning curve, had no idea my hospital job was so easy!  But I was stubborn, and I learned and improved.  Next job - more learning.  New accounts with constantly changing specifics - keep learning.  In this job, you learn every day - a new phrase, a new production tip, the fact that you've been spelling something wrong, etc.

Just take a deep breath and realize they are trying to help you.  Thank them for every correction, because its what they need you to do.  Make a lot of notes.  And you can and will improve, if you're stubborn enough to make your investment pay.

Very difficult with a long learning curve.
You must have adequate resources, books, protocol lists including research drugs. It's doable but not if you expect to learn it in a week.
how long of a learning curve w/ new account?

Good morning everyone ... I'm starting at-home work this week for a new hospital, out of my area.  How long should I expect of a learning curve?  It's been a while since Ive done NEW accounts !

How long does it take you guys to get up to par - and that money starts really pouring in?  I did a few reports this weekend - and between the strange names, accents, procedures - it's going to take me a while before I'm lucrative.

What's your experience w/ new accounts ?

Thanks everyone!

JoJo

Slow learning curve...getting a little nervous.
I recently left the job I had had for over a decade because I had grown to HATE the company I worked for.  Have moved to a different company, one with a very good reputation on this board.  So I'm learning a new platform, new account, new dictators including lots of new ESL docs... and I'm learning acute care after many, many years of almost entirely clinic work.  Please, somebody tell me I'm going to get up to speed someday.  Hopefully someday soon.  Back in the day I typed an average of 250 lines an hour.... My line count seems stuck for the last week or so at 140.  I've been doing this job for 2 weeks now.  The switch to acute care is really shaking my confidence... I'm realizing how much I didn't know for the many years I've been an MT.  Just hoping for a little encouragement -- as my daughter would say, "an encouraging shoulder squeeze."    TY!
It is relatively easy and I have a looong learning curve.
You will figure it out. MS word is user friendly. There are just a ton of options available. Hopefully someone will come by and say more.

Good luck
And I disagree. Difficult and long learning curve
Hard to get used to all the bells and whistles. You can turn them off, but then you have wasted a lot of money buying something you can't use.
I wanted to learn it, but I fear the learning curve would be impossible. sm

since I can't take any time off from the qwerty keyboard.  How did you make the conversion?

MT comfort

Sorry to hear of your RA. I know it can be very painful and you are right, we have a job where no one sees us and who cares what we are wearing or where we do our work as long as we are happy, comfortable and productive.

I've never tried working outside but I do like the window open on a nice day to let  in the breeze and the sun. Generally work evenings so spend a lot of time outside during the daytime anyway. Often thought of getting an RV and being a mobile MT.

That would be a lot of fun I think as long as you have a good reliable broadband connection and your computer was easily transported. That way you could be a snow bird in the winter and come north in the summer or whatever and do it in the comfort of an RV. RV sales are down though. I wonder why???

Does anyone have a Comfort Select bed and if so...how do you like it? nm

Sleep Comfort Bed
We bought a Select Comfort bed. It is wonderful.  My husband had really bad back problems but since getting the Select Comfort he has not had any problems (except when we sleep away from home). He loves it and recommends it to everyone!
Comfort Zone
Yes -- so true!  This board is a comfort zone for MTs new, seasoned and everything in between.  I'm so glad it is here and available 24/7.  The help and support is wonderful!  Nice to know there are people on your side!

Question about comfort
I had read somewhere about noise-cancelling headsets being uncomfortable and hot on the ears. Any problem like that with the Bose?
anyone ever order from comfort keyboard or
I'm waiting for my keyboard now for two weeks, when I was told it would take two days.  I just spent 300 hundred bucks on this thing, i've called several times, there is a tracking number and everything, but no one seems to know where my package is??  Just wondering if anyone has ordered successfully from these people and if I should just be patient.  This is why I do not order on line very much!
Comfort Standard keyboard
SM lead me to the website that sells several different keyboards. The one I'd be ordering (if I had any money...ha-ha!) would be the Comfort Standard. Check out www.sforh.com/keyboards/split and you'll see which one I'm talking about. It's $$350, so I guess I'll just have my old one fixed and save up the money for the Comfort Standard. :)
Bose Quiet Comfort 2 - now they have a new
version which supposedly is even better - QC3. They are AMAZING. They do block out background noise, though its subtle. And the clarity is amazing! I can hear what the doctor is thinking!
No, it isn't. Google comfort keyboards.

Bose quiet comfort 2
Pricey but worth it. Blocks out family's TV noise, muffles sound of vacuum cleaner, makes barely audible dictation clearer.

I wore one, but by all means DO WHAT YOU WANT! Your comfort is what matters.:-) nm

I want the Hyundai Santa Fe. Luxury and comfort

Bose headphone Quiet Comfort 2 or 3 better?
Anyone tried both and have a preference?  Any positives or negatives (besides the outrageous price?)  I bought the Quiet Comfort 2 in the store after trying the demo model of the QC 3.  I thought the over the ear would be better for blocking noise, but I am not certain they are as good as the QC3 (on the ear).  I just want a pair of headphones that will block out my kids being home this summer, as I have to work in the dinning room corner and I hear everything.  Might try a different brand/model all together because for 300-350 dollars I am not the Bose are worth it.  Thanks for your input!
My comfort keyboard does. I type in the neutral, "handshake"

What about over 2000?

THE POINT: The $2000 was for

knockoff or from the store is not a necessity in anybody's book and

is a slap in the face of the taxpayer who underwrote the $2000.

2000 is only the beginning

Believe me, that $2000 is only the beginning.  I do feel for these people but many of them are only used to hand outs and they will be getting them left and right.  Lets see how many of  them stand in line for a job.  I heard that WalMart will hire any evacuee, no matter what.  I wish they would report how many have been hired thus far.   I was watching Fox news the other day and one of the  guys they were talking to said something along the lines of "They aint helping us at all, its like they shipped us all on slave boats again"  He then said the F word, which Fox didn't see coming because you could hear it plain as day.  Now that is the state of mind of many of these people. Give me, give me.  The welfare system has tought many that the government will take care of them, they do not have to take care of themselves.  Now I am not talking about all the evacuees just the ones that are not used to fending for themselves.

Okay, said what I had to say.  This just all gets to me.

Try Word 2000
Look at some online discount software places. I picked up Word 2000 CD only (no book, no frills) for $30. Seems most of these outfits require Word 2000 and up. Try softwareoutlet.com; that's where I got my CD.
2000 lines a day
I used to do 2000 lines a day but I had only 3 hospital accounts. Sure, it would be easier to do that many lines per day and more if you have easier accounts (and if you have 1, like yourself, definitely more), but unfortunately most people have lots of different accounts - and where I work, there are over 350 accounts and people sort of have to do whatever comes up, so it is MUCH more difficult to do. It all depends on if you are lucky enough to have 1 account, like yourself, or have to "go with the flow" with whatever comes up, which is infinitely more difficult. Kudos to those who can produce 2000 lines a day WHILE DOING lots of different, difficult accounts. YOU are the ones who truly deserve respect.
I do 2000 lines a day...but...sm
I also have to admit to having only five accounts, mostly with acute care, with only a few ESLs and few Op notes. We go live on the 15th so I probably won't be in the 2000 Club after that, although hopefully, as I get used to things, my numbers will climb back up.
2000 lines...
I think if you are an acute care MT with several different accounts and quite a few ESL dictators (normal for most hopsitals), if you kill yourself and resign yourself to having no life at all, you could do 2000 lines or more easily. However, I don't think it's worth it.
Those of you who do a lot of lines (2000+) a day,

Now I know a lot depends on how many characters per line but putting that aside:  How do you get in a lot of lines every day?

Do you sit and work nonstop?  Do you type at a leisurely pace or bang your keyboard as fast as you can?  Do you use an expander?  A word completion software like Smartype?  Are you able to keep up with everything else - house, kids, DH?  Do you just keep on typing till you get all the lines you want?  Do you set a goal for yourself each day, or just type every chance you get and what you end up with is okay with you?

Just wondering cause I know even though I've been an MT many years (23) I am sort of spoiled.  Had many years where I had easy money accounts and made money not really even trying and not working very hard.  Well now I have canned my own accounts and working for someone else at a respectable line rate - but I find myself wanting to type 1000 lines a day and stop and I need to make more money than that.  I guess I just got lazy!

So if you don't mind, share your tips!

2000 lines a day

I can send you my line count sheets.  get one daily.  why would I get on here and lie.

Word 2000
Hi All !   I'm using Word 2000.  Is it necessary to upgrade to newer versions of Word?
Had mine done in 2000 (I was 39) sm
outpatient hospital and the combined total with everything included came to nearly $10,000.  That was with the anesthesia fee, etc.  I didn't get them both done at the same time. Of course, I probably got charged more since I have insurance.  Did the worst one first and 5 weeks later did the second. What an absolutely amazing difference. I was severely nearsighted and doctor corrected it with a stronger lens and even though I still wear bifocal glasses (for astigmatism) I see so much clearer. I didn't even realize they were that bad.
I took it in 2000 and it was a breeze for me then.
But I didn't maintain it. Has it changed much, does anyone know? I keep hearing it's not easy and am just wondering if it's now more difficult than it used to be. I am trying to decide whether or not to do it again.
