I am just flat out stunned at the vitriol generated by this subject. There's more anger and disagreement here than on the abortion question on page 1! I feel like people who are flaming you, and this question, are so phenomenally afraid of being thought of as less than smart, that they come out with teeth bared just to make themselves feel like they are defending the castle againt all comers. It's incredible. I should go get my psych degree and base it on these results.

Let's see...if I feel threatened...I know...
This woman should know better. Why come to this site if you feel threatened? She has used up my sympathy. She needs to also get a therapist. They can also help with referrals to human resource type agencies who can help with various things. She has already gotten rid of her husband. What does she want us to do? She has a family. She has mentioned her mother. Read her posts below.
You must really feel threatened
or why would you even bring this up? I was a Transcriptionist for years, since the 70s. I had no choice when the job where I was working went to VR. It was either start pounding the pavement in my 50s or go with the flow. Being as this was the 2nd time outsource, old hat to me. I typed over 2000 lines each day and made a really fabulous salary. Now I get over 3000 per day, work less and make a salary that I am very satisfied with and the platform I work on very, very easy. I think most places are trying to cut costs and VR is 1 way for the places to do this. Oh sure, I would like to make what I did in the 80s BUT I really worked very hard to achieve that and I do not want to work any more of my life away now. If you think only newbies or people who lack talent to type love VR, better think again. Just not so and another thing, if I were you, might be watching over your shoulder because I think you are really fearful of this.
I think people with higher IQs actually frequently feel insecure,
and people who razz them or put them down. It's not hard to get a complex about something that personal when people get down on you for something you can't help, and had nothing to do with creating. God-given gift. And then when people FLAME you for it, it hurts. And you go back into "turtle" mode and get a job as a Transcriptionist because machines don't bite.
wow - how insecure are you? sm.....
and in the USA there are 8 women for every man....so I don't see how RadGuy being an MT affects anybody at all ever........
Perhaps your skills are not up to par and is why your posts seem so insecure. Many of us have had bad trips with men but we didn't grow up to be MANHATERS.
RadGuy tries to help certain people on these boards (not me) and I see a lot of positives from that poster (RadGuy). You came in and did nothing but berate ALL men....just by virtue of your handle.
No man has ever put me out of work....in nearly half a century...
Hands the poster an Elavil......
my goodness you're insecure
Those who are so insecure that they make things up are not blessed, however.
x
MTs have threatened this as far back as 1999. It never happens.
Just quit the job if you aren't happy there.
I turned her be..ind in when I found out because threatened with wage cut
because SHE made so much and the other Transcriptionist and I were going to have our wages cut because of 1 being dishonest? I don’t think so. This person was taking off half days while the other person and I finished full days. We looked at her log she had written the names down and saw what her counts were and we knew no way Jose. I so liked the part when I was able to tell the manager no sour grapes, what was happening was. I think the manager was green herself and did not have any experience in transcription and did not want to believe me.
The Moderator removes what he feels threatened by...
which seems to be about everything!
What mensa is
What is Mensa?
Mensa was founded in England in 1946 by Roland Berrill, a barrister, and Dr. Lance Ware, a scientist and lawyer. They had the idea of forming a society for bright people, the only qualification for membership of which was a high IQ. The original aims were, as they are today, to create a society that is non-political and free from all racial or religious distinctions. The society welcomes people from every walk of life whose IQ is in the top 2% of the population, with the objective of enjoying each other's company and participating in a wide range of social and cultural activities.
I don't know my IQ, but I must be a mensa then! LOL!!!!
x
I think any woman who needs reinforcement from an authority figure such as a supervisor is insecure.
I don't give a care what any Manager/CEO/Supervisor says to me regarding good job, show me the money is all I care about. Talk is sometimes cheaper than actually giving a raise (as evident with MQ) so save the talk and give me the pay I am entitled to. Less e-mail, talk, chatter from managment, hopefully more money for me.
Yes, Jay certainly does read this board. I know because he threatened to sue me if I didn't remov
certain posts some months ago essentially about the same subject content as now. If Jay truly owes previous employees and current employees clearly it would behoove him to do so as it certainly doesn't look very good when his indiscretions are plastered all over MT sites.

Mensa, Montana??? Well, I would think . . .
if you were as brilliant as you profess to be, you would not feel the need to broadcast it on a public forum. Wouldn't your abundant intellect be satisfaction enough? Wouldn’t you just prefer to sit and marvel at yourself in the mirror or something? Why would you bother to come here and post among those who probably don’t even have the slightest inkling as to your enormous intelligence?
And, yes, modesty is a good thing to be, whether man or woman. With your massive brain power I would think you would have figured that out a long time ago.
(I posted something similar below, but I wanted to be sure MM didn't miss it).
Tired of those insecure team leaders who are afraid to give any information
about the account, the names or titles of dictators, etc. Are they so afraid that if someone learns how to do the job well that they will be replaced? Everything is top secret.
Remember that Pakistan co who threatened to post medical records on the Net?
REMEMBER WHEN THIS STORY BROKE? Finally, somebody is dealing with the issue. Check this out!

VA IT security gaps extend to contractors 06/14/06 -- 04:15 PM By Mary Mosquera,
Rep. Buyer: Department CIO needs IT security enforcement authority The Veterans Affairs Department said today that it has been investigating allegations that an offshore medical transcription subcontractor last year threatened to expose 30,000 veterans’ electronic health records on the Internet in a payment dispute with a VA contractor. The VA assistant inspector general referred to the investigation during questioning in a congressional hearing on VA’s data security environment in the wake of the theft of sensitive data of 26.5 million veterans, active duty military and reserves officers.
The medical transcription incident highlights how gaps in information security also extend to contractors, said Michael Staley, VA’s assistant inspector general for auditing. Some VA medical transcription contractors have used offshore subcontractors in India and Pakistan without VA’s approval and without adequate controls to ensure veterans’ health information was secure under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, according to an audit released today.
“Contracts do not specify criteria for how to protect information,” Staley told the House Veterans Affairs Committee.
Staley enumerated audits of information management security under the Federal Information Security Management Act, the Consolidated Financial Statement and Combined Assessment Program that revealed significant vulnerabilities. These include VA not controlling and monitoring employee access, not restricting users to only the data they need and not terminating accounts of departing employees in a timely manner.
In last year’s FISMA review, the IG provided 16 recommendations, including addressing security vulnerabilities of unauthorized access and misuse of sensitive information and data throughout VA demonstrated during its field testing. All 16 recommendations remain open, he said.
Audits also found instances where out-based employees send veterans’ medical information to the VA regional office through unencrypted e-mail; monitoring remote network access and usage does not routinely occur; and off-duty users’ access to VA computer systems and sensitive information is not restricted.
“VA has implemented some recommendations for specific locations identified but has not made corrections VA-wide,” he said.
From fiscal years 2000 to 2005, the IG identified IT and security deficiencies in 141, or 78 percent, of 181 Veterans Health Administration facilities reviewed, and 37, or 67 percent, of the 55 Veterans Benefits Administration facilities reviewed.
“We recommended that VA pursue a more centralized approach, apply appropriate resources and establish a clear chain of command and accountability structure to implement and enforce IT internal controls,” Staley said.
The underlying situation is the VA’s department CIO does not have authority to enforce compliance with data security and information management and recommendations from GAO, said Veterans Affairs Committee chairman Steve Buyer (R-Ind.).
Buyer traced problems in security enforcement to a memo dated April 2004 from the general counsel that said the department CIO did not have enforcement authority.
The CIO, undersecretaries who lead VA’s benefits, health and burial administrations, and the VA secretary share responsibility for enforcement, said Gregory Wilshusen, director of information security issues for the Government Accountability Office.
“Information security is a governmentwide problem, and we have talked with OMB about that,” said Linda Koontz, director of GAO’s information management issues.
Buyer expressed frustration that there are no consequences for “recalcitrant” agencies that do not correct problems that GAO has repeatedly highlighted. He cited the Privacy Act, which has been strengthened with consequences.
“If you have a bureaucracy so strong in the department that the secretary or political bodies are unable to act, don’t you think the president or vice president or OMB needs to know that because there are monetary consequences behind that inaction? I’m bothered that GAO doesn’t have the higher authority to which they can turn,” Buyer said after the hearing.
After several more hearings this month, Buyer and his committee will make recommendations or craft legislation. He suggested that Congress consider looking at strengthening FISMA.
“We can even come up with that in our language, but we’re not going to have jurisdiction over that. We’ll have to work with Mr. Davis [House Government Reform Committee chairman Tom Davis (R-Va.)] and his committee. I’d be more than happy to do that,” he said.

What does Mensa mean? sorry don't have a high IQ I guess!
Mensa/IQ status doesn't mean very much to me(sm)
I have an acquaintance who takes great pride in his Mensa status, yet for the past 4 years, this status did nothing to help him obtain gainful employment. He was intelligent in that he was able to get his MIL to make house payments, pay utilities and buy his family (wife and 2 kids) groceries with her retirement funds. Guess we'll give him credit for that.
He finally did get a job after playing computer games and hacking into other's computers for the past 4 years, this grown man of 35 or so. Yes, Mensa brought him up in status. I like to think of him as lazy. He wants money but doesn't want to earn it.
Used to be a MENSA candidate but because I'm getting older, I'm losing it, only 140
x
i agree... Maybe I will join MENSA, just for the companionship
no shame in having a good IQ, when all the dust settles. Go for it MT!
last time i checked, MENSA was a party organization! Not much more going on.
I don't care if you are a mensa or a full blown idiot...
like MensaMT who tells us she is awesome at everything she does and everything she touches is gold, then you deserve to be flamed! All those things may be true, but come on...nobody wants to hear you tell about how wonderful you are. There are plenty of MTs out there doing all she is doing - with a much less IQ - who don't have to tell a soul!
Mensa AND common sense -- prejudice obviously ignorance
Oh bosh. I am a member of Mensa and a medical transcriptionist. I think it is VERY narrow minded of the whole bunch who criticize something they no NOTHING about. Mensa is simply an organization whose qualification is that you test in the top 2 percent on any of a couple of different IQ tests. High IQ and common sense are not mutually exclusive. I have two other comments: Intelligence is matriarchal (look it up) and if you would like the cheapest way of finding out your true IQ Mensa is generally the cheapest way to do it. It used to consist of 15 bucks and a Saturday morning at a university test -- but I'm sure there are more modern ways now. Contact American Mensa and find out. They are a very interesting bunch and have special interest groups which consist of just about any topic you can think of from alcoholics to chocoholics to irish dancing and beyond....
if you feel like that after 12 years, and I feel like that after six months
what hope is there?
I feel people who feel like this post
needs to a) either be a stay at home mother and not work or b) realize that she is no queen bee and I could care less about a degree. What company out here that you know of compensates for having a degree? Means nothing to them. Your working and being there when they assign/need/require/whatever is what you should do IF YOU WANT A JOB in this field, otherwise get out and do something else or become that babysitter.
No need to feel badly for me - feel badly for an adult who has no control of his/her own life!
I hope these people didn't produce any daughters! Bad, bad example!
I know how sad you must feel
Yes, you will love her forever, and someday you will be able to think of the good times you had with her, and you will be able to laugh.
I know how you feel. :)
a
Don't feel bad!
It took me nearly a year to even find out if I had passed just before they went to the instant results system.
Don't feel bad...
When you take a position with any company, up front ask them if you will be working on a "ver batim" account. If so, don't take the position. Keep looking. Someone will appreciate your intelligence and knowledge somewhere! Good luck, and please know that you're not alone!!!
I feel the same as you...
My account does not allow me any normals. I am to leave a blank and they fill in the standard. I'm also a CMT and been at this for 30 years. I feel I'm doing something wrong when I hear all these 300-400 counts. I average maybe 200 per hour on a good day. I know some of my problem is having to look up referring doctors, but I can't imaging doing 300-400 lines on a consistent basis per hour! Thank you for your post. At least I know I'm not alone!
I feel for you
Last November I fell from a ladder, grabbed it with my right hand and severed nerves in 2 fingers, since I was at home, had home owner's which paid me a little and had AFLAC thru my job which helped, finally about to get back to normal but the last 6 months have been pure heck, good luck.
I feel that way every day. sm
I just take a break every 2-3 hours and take the dog for a walk or exercise or something. Sometimes, I run up and down the stairs or just go and sit out on my deck for a few minutes to get some fresh air.
Not sure it is menopausal symptoms as I am younger than the age. For me, it is my personality trait. I am a type A personality.
I feel like...
I am just having the very life sucked out of me!
Now I don't feel so alone
Well, at least none of us are alone in the work all the time boat. I guess that is some consolation.
Enough so we don't feel
like a hooker on the street paying our "pimp"! All the MTSOs need to review their overhead and cut out unnecessary expenses and overpaying their CEOs. It is like the government spending $6,000.00 for a toilet. Look at the UN who is wanting to borrow the money from the U.S. to refurbish the UN building. Donald Trump has been in meetings with Congress and it is a very, very interesting thing to watch. The UN wants to set aside $431 million dollars just in contingencies; Trump said that the contingencies should be no more than $1 million to $2 million at most.
Basically, if the MTSOs had to live like many of us live, I'm sure they would be able to cut their waste and extravagance, don't you think?
Okay now I feel bad. I know I sit here in
my own little world with my family of 8 not having much time for the news and such. But really cannot believe I haven't heard this. How sad. He was a great man. When I did get to watch the news he was the one I watched. May God bless him and his family!
I feel sorry for you
This too shall pass. Tomorrow will be a better day.
you have every right to feel anyway you want...
this is just the way I feel. My life has been changed with this knowledge I just acquired, and I wanted to share it.
growing up on a farm, in the country, I am also aware of the local slaughterhouse, and even in the bible (old testament) how God commanded the slaughter of tens of thousands of cattle/ox, or whatever they were, DAILY - never could figure that one out (said the smell of burning flesh was pleasing to him or something ??)
BUT, just me, I cannot bear the thought of eating meat from a stressed animal dying in agony...I would think that has to be passed on to us, somehow, and also as you mentioned the growth hormones and antibiotics, and who knows what (some cows are fed other dead cows cut up), ick.
In my humble opinion, as far as peta, I do not think animals have 'rights' and I am just not the 'fanatic' type I guess. I do think as a member of the human race, there has to be a more humane way to kill these animals.
It is disturbing how easy it is for us to 'ignore' it.
Like in the video, it mentions how schizophrenic it all is, and how it goes on all day, every day, not far from where we live...
Anybody else feel this way?
I am so tired any more and I think I hate my job. Every day same thing. Between the lack of money for doing this thankless job, the way this company I work for treats me, the constant cherry-picking that I have to go through on a daily basis, I need a break. Can someone tell me ONE company that appreciates hard working MTs and is good to work for PLEASE. Thanks.
I am so sorry you feel this way
there are companies out there that are fair and good to work for.
Anyone else feel that when they have to
drive anywhere on the roads it's like driving in a Nascar race? I had 3 close calls today because of people not looking or seeing me in my lane and trying to merge into my vehicle. They try and zip in and out of traffic. They drive like maniacs yet I still see the same cars at the next stop light when I get there. Waiting for the flag to come down and yell "we have a winner" some days.
I know how you feel ...
My son's best friend was killed Monday in a motorcycle accident. He was only 16. Of course, we are extremely close - our families.
I haven't taken anything to any of their homes yet. I have sent a plant for the service tomorrow. I will make a nice memorial to his youth group. I plan to wait about 2-3 weeks, when things have settled down and all the items brought have disappeared. I'm sure his mother won't feel like cooking for a while -- then I'm taking a complete dinner over, maybe once a week until I know they are doing better.
I have also written a letter to my state legislators in his memory, asking for some changes in legislation that may have prevented this death.
My oldest son is 20 and his best friend was killed a year ago on a motorcycle as well. I'm handling this situation the same as the other with a plant, memorial to the youth group, and a few meals afterwards.
I know how you feel..
I am so discouraged. I am considering cutting my losses and moving on. This had turned into a cut throat operation. The employee is no longer treated like a human, just take the crap and keep your mouth should attitude. It is pretty sad that this company has turned into this type of operation. What is really sad is any company that would push the issue of line count quota and not quality....MTs will be so worried about getting quota that there will be no time for proofreading. SAD SITUATION.
I know how you feel
I took several tests like that. Actually the company that I now work for gave me a foreign dictator (very hard)for my test, and I have never typed for a foreign dictator and I have been there almost four months.
I feel so sorry for everyone there and wish there was
more I can do, but I think the schools are doing all they can. If the students don't have phone service, then the school can't call them either so that doesn't solve the issue. At least if they post a number, then hopefully the kids are out of the places now that are still out of power and have made it to family's home or a shelter and can call them.
I feel the same way
Only I'm really pathetic...my youngest just started half-day kindergarten and I'm missing her! I have a 21-year-old, and 18-year-old who just started college..and then I have my 5-year-old. She was born with hydrocephalus and is shunted. Doing great though..just like a normal kid except that we did have a rapid and no-warning shunt failure a month ago which involved a Medflight and surgery, etc. I've spent every day with her since the day she was born..and even though she's only going half days right now, I'm really missing her during that time. I know that I'll adjust..and I am happy that she is growing up and able to go and spend the time with the other kids which she just loves. I'm just really sad, too..and missing my baby girl.
I know how you feel
I can't go to the bathroom or into the kitchen (that part is probably a good thing)
I know how you feel...sm
I have felt that way on a number of occasions. I probably would have tagged it and made the office look it up, just because I could...but sounds like you did the right thing. I mean, is it our job to read their minds, make them look like freakin' geniuses, please! They should have enough respect for us, the transcriptionist, to at least give accurate information, as much as they can, and do what they can to spell correctly, especially doctor names. But, most docs think they are God or something, I don't know, anyways, sorry about the rant... (jumping off now)!
I feel for you..sm
I have a cat that is going on 20 years. I call her the Ancient One. She is in no pain, eats well, etc... She is just old and rickety. But she still sits under my chair when I type. I pray the day never comes that I have to end her life. Just let her not wake up one morning is all I ask. My sympathy to you.
I feel for you.
Listen to you gut instinct. Your experience and know how will be appreciated when you find the right company.
As far as the other QA person not being very nice....it is a fact that women can be very difficult to work with. Statistics have proven that women have a need to feel equal and when threatened they tend to fall into behaviors such as those you described.
It happens on this board quite often. The nicest women in person can be very mean spirited when not face to face. Try not to take it personally and just keep doing the best job you can.
Unless you are getting paid very well for working that many hours, decide if it is really work sacrificing your life. Good luck...you are not alone.
