Meditech remote workstation 3? Shorthands?

The company I work for will only pay hourly for Meditech remote workstation 3 transcription becuase you can't use any shorthands in it. Is this true? It seems like an awful program that works like an old DOS-type program. I've seen other posts about Meditech and ShortHand but I'm not sure if we are just using a terribly old version or what the deal is. Can you offer any help? Thanks!

Hey, my old cable remote had a remote! sm
We called it the flipper box.
Describe your workstation!
Hi, All,
I thought it would be fun to describe workstations. I get extremely bored with work sometimes. At various times in my career I've had different ways to combat this--once my office area (bedroom) looked out on beautiful woods. At another time I had a small TV on my desk which was usually tuned to QVC (usually muted) during work (that was a deadly habit that had to go!). Yesterday I bought a 2-1/2-gallon fish tank and have had fun filling it with gravel, plastic plants, a bridge and two creatures--a male betta fish and a golden apple snail. During the workday it's nice to kind of glance over and see what the critters are up to. The drama currently is that the betta is no too keen on having a snail in his tank, even though the pet store reassured me that he wouldn't mind and that there was enough space for the two of them.
As for the rest of my workstation, I keep it pretty clear of clutter. I have a river stone that has JOY carved on it, purchased at a fair trade shop. I have a few fortunes from fortune cookies promising nice things about money. There's a small black-and-white cat figurine that's supposed to be a creative muse. He looks just like my tuxedo cat, so I liked him right away. To the right is a mug that has the Chinese symbol for "fortune;" I've filled this with highlighters. And there's a card holder (a piece of wood with a carved slit in it) that I place inspirational cards in. Usually before work I'll draw a card and place it there. Sometimes I'll glance over and take a look at it. I figure if my mind picks up some good messages subliminally during the day, it's a good thing!
So...please share! What do you have on your desk? Pictures welcome!
Question for Shorthands users....sm
1. Can you import AutoText entries into this program?
2. What's their website?
Interference on my DVI digital workstation. SM
Does anybody else ever experience this problem? I can hear other people's conversations, like on a two-way radio or CB. It's crazy! I'm picking up farmer and his wife. She also talks to other people sometimes. She talks to somebody named "cheeseburger" and "outlaw." It's too funny! But it also gets on my nerves when I can't hear my dictator!
How can I install my Dictaphone EXText shorthands in basic word?
Is that possible? If so how do you do it. I know what my ShortHand file is named and where it is saved. I am using basic word a lot and don't want to put everything in under autocorrect by hand. Thanks for your time!
Yes, it says remote.

Remote Control
AND you can keep the remote control right next to your keyboard to mute it when necessary. I think it sounds great. I might try it!
Remote PC connection
One of my clients allows me to remotely access their computer to obtain patient lists and transfer files. I have high-speed cable, but there is some delay when I use Word on their computer. I imagine other programs would be a bit slower as well.
If you have Windows XP Professional, you can give this a try yourself by setting up a Remote Desktop Connection. A Google search for this will give you step-by-step instructions.
remote transcriptionists
Go to mtjobs.com. There are plenty on there.
Probably best to do remote training overall. sm
I realize you probably needed several MTs right away, but most are going to agree to remote training faster than flying somewhere. I am looking for a new job right now but I'm also still working at my old one, and need to make a living in the meantime, so it's hard enough for me to find time to test online for other places. I make the time to do so, but it often means working longer hours. There's no way I could up and leave my family to train elsewhere since my DH travels a lot. Granted, I would not have agreed to that in the first place if I knew it was not feasible and definitely wouldn't have backed out without notice. That's just wrong on the part of the MTs involved. Yes, MTs complain about MTSOs a LOT, but many don't realize just how bad some of what the MTSOs put up with can be. I've often had to fill in for others who just flaked or went missing without advance notice. IC or not, that's just bad business. If these were in-house jobs, they'd be canned.
In my job search, I've noticed a whole lot of ads now want on-site MTs and specifically say not an at-home position, and I have to wonder if it's because they've been burned by the flakes. If that's the case, then it's hurting ALL of us who wish to do this from our home offices. Whether you are MT or MTSO, you have to remember the golden rule. If you use respect and act professional, more times than not, you will in turn be treated with respect and professionalism. There will always be bad apples, in any profession, so you have to take your lumps and just move on without becoming so jaded.
Yay for this board, I don't feel so remote
I admit I leave this page open all day (addicted) and refer back, just because knowing there are fellow MTs online makes me feel like I have coworkers again! Sometimes I do get cabin fever with the only souls around me all day being my cat and dog. Wondering how everyone copes with being remote and getting cabin fever once in awhile...has anyone gotten to the point where they were either too lazy/scared to leave their house??
Remote hospital transcriptionist
Hi, I work for a 270-bed hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO and have been with them for 14 years. 9 years ago we went to at-home typing and it's been great. We have health insurance (family plan is only 105.00 a month) and you get 50% employee discount for whatever insurance doesn't pay. We get 11 cpl on a 60 character line. We can work our own hours, just have to meet a 5000 line quota per two weeks to maintain health insurance. We go on-call for a week at a time where we are available that week to type stats should there be any during the night or weekend, but we receive on call pay (an additional 220.00 that week). By looking at what some others offer I feel very fortunate to work where I do. Right now they are not hiring as we don't have a turnover. One of our girls has been there for 25+ years. Hope you find what you are looking for. They are out there if you just keep looking. Take care.
Hospitals that will hire remote MTs
Thank you, Linda. I'll check them out. :o)
Remote hospital transcriptionist
I definitely will! Thanks!
Lanier Remote Station
Can anyone send me instructions on how to program an older Lanier remote transcription system? I think it is an LX-128? I just don't remember. I took my out of the closet to see if it works and have lost my instructions. Everything is all plugged in and works. HOwever, I get a double tone and not a dial tone. I remember having to program it but it has been sooooooo long ago. Any help would be appreciated.

Tell that to certain tribes in remote areas of the world

I live in remote area - no cable or DSL
and Clearwire is also not available. I have the satellite service. It is expensive - you have to purchase the equipment and pay for the installation ($600 and up). The service is expensive too ($65). The speed is not quite as fast as DSL, but I download and upload jobs with no problem. Some MTSOs won't allow satellite service, citing security issues, which is dumb. It's like any other wireless service - you have to make sure your signal is secure, which you do through your computer (not the service itself). Even this is ridiculous in remote areas for 2 reasons: 1) I really don't think anyone is going to bother camping out on my land or drive down my mile-long driveway with their laptop just to see if they can pick up a signal and 2) even if they did, they can only gain access to the internet itself - they can't see what you are doing online. So this security issue thing is baloney! Also, in 2004 when we were hit by Hurricanes Charlie, Frances and Jeanne, there was no phone or cable service for nearly a month, but I was still able to work by just using our generator for my computer until the electric came back on - those that had dialup, DSL or cable were outta luck.
Hospitals that require remote transcriptionists
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to find hospitals that hire remote transcriptionists. I've been googling all morning, and I'm not having any luck. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it!
That's a typical hourly rate for remote
I personally wouldn't drive that far for it.
Have a remote garage door opener?
Could have scared the bajeebies out him by shutting it while he was in your garage. Only thing is, you'd be cleaning up bajeebies off your garage floor.
I have a dog that does a very good Tasmanian devil impression, spitting included, when people knock. The people can see her through the door and they usually leave a card or whatever they have and move out pretty quickly.
Remote 008Keylogger found constantly on my spyware.
Everytime I log onto the server for the company I work for I run my spyware. Everytime I open a job lately I have re-run my spyware and it seems to me that "008remote keylogger" is constantly on my PC. This spyware enables the "server" to see everything I type, every email, and where I go on my internet. Would anyone else be concerned?
Which TASP companies allow remote users to transcribe online?
Does anyone send Christmas cookies or presents TO your office, if you are a remote employee? sm
Just wondering if that's a weird thing to do or not.

West Florida Hospital is hiring for remote MT - must train on site for 90 days though. Where are you

Last year I purchased a Lasko 30" tall digital ceramic pedestal heater with remote for under (sm)
$80.00 at Home Depot. Features include: Automatic temperature control, oscillate, timer, and high (1500W) and low (900W) power settings. Assembling the base took less than 5 minutes. Kept me very warm last winter, and plan on purchasing another one for my upstairs. Cut down on my gas heating bill significantly. Great buy.
Meditech
Has anyone ever used a word Expander with Meditech? I understand that there are several different versions of this program and we use it for Radiology. We have V. 3.25. I was specifically thinking about ShortKeys? Any input would be appreciated.
Meditech
Has anyone ever used Meditech? Is it user-friendly? Fast? Thanks for any info you can give me.
MediTech
No to all of the above questions.
Meditech
Hello ladies. Can any of you give me referral for the name of a good medical transcription service company to work for? I've been with Spheris for almost 3 years and am looking. I've been requesting to change from an intimidating and threatening supervisor for months, and it hasn't happened. MANY PEOPLE are leaving Spheris. I'm just wondering -- can anyone give me the name of a NICE COMPANY to work for??
Thank you very much. Have a nice day.
Meditech
User-friendly? LOL. Shorthand helps.
Meditech?!))!!**
I hate it! Been working through Meditech. A huge hospital account and it's constantly going slow, booting you offline. And, it's been like this for years. They are losing a load of MT's because of it. It's okay for the hospital users, labs, docs, etc. NOT for transcriptionists. You need a dedicated line, not a system that serves a metropolis!
Does anyone use Meditech here?
I work for a hospital and I am forced to use Meditech. There is nothing to help a Transcriptionist except for autocorrect. The F11 key is diabled as well as macros. Any one else experience this problem, and how did you get around it.
Going crazy without my tools. I can't stand not being able to F11 to my next stop, let alone make templates, etc. Autocorrect on this computer is terrible as well. It will only take words in a line, not a paragraph, for example. Sheesh.. Any advice???
Meditech
Yes - Have your supervisor get Smartype, which works well with Meditech in Word program or Abbreviate, which is cheaper. I have worked at a local hospital with same problem and they would not put Smartype on, would do nothing to help at all. Good luck, hope you get somewhere, it is like typing with one hand behind your back isn't it? Pain in the neck and takes so much of your time.
meditech
Meditech does not count lines. It only counts black characters, no spaces.
Meditech
I would charge by the line - at least 12-14 cents per line (if you are the owner of the account)or charge 3.00 per report - 4.00 for specials. I have found with Meditech that this is about the only way to make any money. I had an account like this and found that radiology by the line if there are a lot of specials is the way to go - longer reports - more lines, especially if they use a lot of normals or negatives as some call them. hope this helps - you are probably being way underpaid if you are working on Meditech.
Meditech - What's it like to use?
Companies that have it always seem to want people who are already trained on it. Is it hard to learn if you have learned many different softwares?
Meditech
I have used the oldest version of Meditech, without a spellchecker and the newest versions with Word and not in Word. Even when I used the older version, I made excellent money. You can use ShortHand and with the old version, I used abbreviate. Of course when I used the old version for 8 years, made 10 cents per line and even the newer versions made 10 cents a line in radiology for all. The Cerner will slow it down, but not all the time. It is an old system, but you can make good money using Meditech. I use RadNet now which I love. Meditech is fairly easy to learn and your line count you get out of your main menu for Transcription Statistics, but not until the next day, that is the only bad thing about it. Good luck. It is not the worse platform. I have used 3 different Meditech programs, two of them old and one the newer one.
New Meditech is not like it used to be
Yes, you do need broadband access and internet. So, good thing u've got DSL. The new version is a whole lot better than the dial-up version - very user friendly. Congrats on the new job!
meditech
I have a manual here but no fax machine - is there something in particular I can look up for you?
Meditech
I've used Meditech and it is a very simple, user friendly program. Only problem I had with it was that there were no expansions.
Meditech lag
I also found Meditech to cause a huge problem with lag and it drove me crazy. The Meditech in Word is better. Have you updated your internet explorer to the new version 7? If so, that may be the problem as I heard it does not work well with some of the medical software for companies, so I have not upgraded mine. There is a web site www.worldstart.com, and they have a message board there, lots of people on the boards and maybe someone can answer your question about the lag time and what may cause it. I stopped using Norton antivirus and have used AVG free as the Norton missed 200 viruses on my computer a couple of years ago. What I used to do years ago is transcribe in Abbreviate and cut and paste into Meditech and that was faster. Maybe you do need to uninstall your program and reinstall, that may help. Good luck. I know how frustrating this is.
meditech
Can you use ShortHand with Meditech? I know Meditech has canned text but it's kind of cumbersome and I really like Shorthand. Does anyone use Meditech + a word expander?
Meditech
Believe me it is slow and add hospital woes to the dragging and you have more problems. I have been on more than one Meditech acct, some good, some not. I have said this before. The Meditech people that came up with this need to go back to the drawing board and...........fast. It is getting to be pathetic!
Meditech...where to get it?sm
Does anyone know of a website that you can go to and download the Meditech program? There was a site I went to before, but I cant find it now and need to download Meditech. Thanx for any help.
T
I'm on Meditech.
I find it pretty slow and cumbersome, even on a broadband connection.
I've resorted to composing in Word on my local machine and then Cut and Pasting into Meditech.
I don't know what version of Meditech it is, or if there even IS more than one.
Meditech (sm)
I remember someone giving instructions on formatting in Meditech, something to do with the F8 key. Could you please post that information again, I meant to print those instructions out. Thanks.
MediTech
MediTech is a platform that is used by various hospitals for doing their dictation. It is one of the older platforms out there, but you cannot download it.
I'm currently using Meditech
And the previous poster (pastMeditecher) is right. I also work in Word and paste it in. I've lost too much work when the system glitches!
Another thing. Find an Expander that will work with Meditech (I use Instant Text). That way, if you have other work or change jobs, your expansions are with YOU, and not stuck with the system.
