Me, too. I told my kids that since they're not in school and I'm working two jobs

just to try to keep the utilities on, they get to do chores. Don't even get me started on holiday stress. My extended family sent me gift cards, so I'm using those to buy for the kids. I even offered to pay them $5 an hour for cleaning so they'd have Christmas money. Instead, what are they doing? Watching TV in their pajamas still. That's OK. I'm about to go unplug all the electronics in the house and give them a big chore list with NO pay.

You sound exactly like me. I'm working two jobs and my husband is going to school..
I have a 13 and 10-year-old. I need to make a chore list, but that takes time too. I seriously do not have five minutes to myself. I'm working from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and taking the kids to dance and baseball in between.
This weekend should be slower for me. I think I'll make my husband a chore list too (I bet he'll love that).
Just wanted to let you know that I totally understand what you are going through.
2 jobs here, also back to school, single working mom...sm
hi just me,
i'm rapidly approaching 50 and working 2 jobs (1 FT as MT, 1 PT as virtual assistant)using different programs (50 hours a week total), and going to school PT (10 hours a week), all as a single parent with a house and yard. in addition, i volunteer about 4-6 hours a week. NOT EASY! But, it CAN BE DONE! I think the secret is in motivation, planning and organization. my outlook calendar program looks like a rainbow! (and the task list is pretty daunting at times) =) let me know if you want more advice via email...good luck!
I did that with 2 kids with time mgmt and a high school girl who babysat 3 days a week after school
nm
I don't have kids, but my Mom was from the "old school," and still had everyone, kids inclu
call her by her first name. The little neighbor girl next door from the time she could speak called her Aggie (my mom's first name), and they were great buddies until the day my mom pased away.
I don't think there really is much in a name, but more in the respect you are given and the way you are treated. Personally, I kind of cringe inside when someone calls me Ms. Anything or God forbid, "maam" (makes me feel like Methuselah!) ... I'm always just plain Merrie. :-)
But, as someone pointed out, to each his own. If you want to be addressed a certain way, you have that right, and people should respect that. I'm glad you corrected the child ... hope it "sticks."
I just told my kids that!!! .......nm
I was always told (old school doc talk here)
The doc's "words of wisdom" were that a small child's body knows when to rid itself of whatever it needs to get rid of and if you give a small child something like Pepto Bismol to try and stop the vomiting, you are only preventing them from ridding their systems of what they need to get rid of. Makes sense.
Do look for signs of dehydration. Otherwise, get him a bowl and clean up the excess.
Hope he feels better.
because they know new grads want 6-8 cpl just like they were told in school
and besides, like I said, takes too much time. So you take on a newbie, train them while paying them 2 cpl. Then they get their "experience" then they move on to greener pastures. Meanwhile the MT in India will still do it for 2 cpl, only now they are trained... get it?
Don't know how many kids in your school..sm
when my child was in high school there were 3000 kids - 2 security officers and perhaps one cop (big huge city) - NOT ENOUGH TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN. Guns and knives were waiting with perp kids across the street from the public school buses, near the city buses....lots of knifings.......pulled my kid out and had her finish up elsewhere....where they did care about kids.......
Like I said elsewhere - if they (authorities) don't care about our kids, they don't care about our/their future either.......
:(((
have your kids gone back to school yet? if so, where are you at...
if not, when do they go back and where are you at? This is strictly out of curiosity, everyone, no ulterior motives here! I'm in GA and mine went back yesterday...think it's WAY too early to go back. They were only out for nine weeks!
No way would my kids be in regular school
It was bad enough years ago when I was in public school, but nowadays with all the drugs, sex, guns, knives, etc., in school, there is no way any kids of mine would be in a public school. I remember my study hall when the kids were totally out of control and the teacher was afraid of them-- it sure isn't any better now. If I could not afford a private school, you'd better believe they would be home schooled.
Kids schedules outside of school....sm
It's amazing to me how many parents push their kids to the extreme with extracurricular activities. I saw a cousin this weekend and her 2nd grader is taking 4 dance lessons (4-1/2 hours a week), an acting class (1 hour) is in some special gifted program that meets 1 hour after school each week and is in the church kid's choir on Wednesdays. This means this 7-year-old has 7-1/2 hours of extracurricular activities scheduled.
I told her that my 6-year-old chooses 1 activity to participate in outside of church kids choir (meets on Sunday) and that's all she does.
What about your kids if you have them? If you have your child scheduled in a lot of things aren't you worried that they will burn out? I've recently read stories that a lot of kids that are overscheduled are getting depressed and I can see why.
As long as you have someone with the kids after school and can
s
Thanks. I've told the same things to my kids about
Teasers in school. They just do it because they have no life, no self-esteem and they just try and feed off the misery of others or try to make themselves look better than everyone else.
It's very sad and so pathetic, but it carries on with these types through what is supposed to be adulthood.
One of the top 10 jobs to go to school for...
Is this a combined medical biller/medical records assistant? We really are out to dry! See below...

What they do: Assemble and assess patients' medical charts, determine a facility's Medicare and other insurance reimbursements, and use computer software to help improve patient care and cut costs.
What you need: An associate's degree and a written examination.
What it pays: Median annual pay was $25,590 in 2004.
Jobs and School
I am finished with school and I have been working for a year with a company that I really just do not like and I have had two other jobs that were bad... It seems that I can get work but I'm struggling.. Though I feel that I went to a poor school should I try one of the better schools so I can get a better job... The one company I worked for the check bounced and the other is just VR and no money at all... Please Advise..
I can't wait for school to start either, and I don't even HAVE kids!! nm
xxxx
I don't need to know anything about it. My kids functioned fine in school
and let them have friends of their own choosing rather than manipulate their lives for them.
I do not know about her school but next Tues. when my kids start the first day they get out at 9:50
x
Absolutely would - however, I have to wait until my 2 kids are out of school
and off to college! I always wanted to be a traveling Transcriptionist with K-Force. I have 3 more years to wait and off I will go to a traveling transcription position.
I, however, love change and get bored fairly quickly. So, I would prefer the shorter assignments from place to place - 3 years is too long in one place for me!
Good luck to you!
Private Christian school is where my kids go.
nm
I believe it is next Monday, the 19th, as the kids have off school for it.

POLL - Are you read for your kids to go back to school? (sm)
Yes and no is the answer for me. I love them home with me (11 and 13), but am ready to have the nice quiet house to myself for work.
Driving my kids to school. Heard it on the radio, Bob and Tom. sm
I never heard them be more serious than that day. The whole day is still bright in my mind. I remember everything that happened, where I was and what I did. I will never forget it.
Our school has good scores but my kids have never been stressed
Probably depends on the teachers and the corporate culture at your school.
No Experience jobs/Deciding to go 2 school.
Hello everyone.
I am trying to make up my mind on going to a MT training class.I have a few questions that i hope someone can help me with.
1.Is most of the work being sent overseas?
2.Are there any work at home companies that hire new grads,or would I have to work in a hospital...and is(hospital) and option with no experience?
3.If I can find a wah job how much should I plan on saving for equipment?
4.What is normal pay as a newbie.I know that it depends on the company, but what is average?
Thanks for any help that you all can provide.
just reminded, did you know Einstein failed grade school? His teachers told
Thank god they didn't believe it or the world would have been robbed of one of the greatest minds.
Must disagree...I also worked 3 jobs while kids little...
but not for a better lifestyle, just to support our family in Hawaii as my husband was low-ranking enlisted military. Please let it go and get back to the original thread... overhiring and waiting for work in the queue and making no $$$ for a decent living.
2000 lines everyday but one since my kids went back to school.
I can finally get back on a routine and get some work done. Now, if I could just stay off of MTstars! LOL.
No, usually it's just winding up as all the kids bring home crud from school.
The 4th of July is slow. Christmas is never slow for me.
Veteran's day. Kids are out of school. Many doctor's offices are closed.

The kids' "holiday" programs at school were full of African and
Hanukkah music, but there wasn't an African or Jewish person in the gymnasium. Everything else was nondenominational. What I want to know is why the minorities have the majority vote? Shouldn't there be an equal amount of Christmas music?
Well, 1 day back to school for the kids, and now they come hom with a stomach virus! Geez.
How frustrating - 1 day in school and now a "bug". We had this in our house before the holidays. Everyone in the family had a turn with it, and now again! I think antiseptic and antibacterials are needed in these schools. Can't afford to be down for even 24 hours!
Just needed to vent my frustration here - my poor kiddies!
Both my kids (age 22 and 24) found jobs in their related field
to their bachelor's right out of college. Maybe you're living in the wrong part of the country. You have to go where the work is.
Back to school....or secretarial jobs??? Selling on Ebay??? Not sure myself....sm
I've been pondering all of the above, back to school and ebay seem to me to be better than back to the clerical/secretarial pool. I'd like to get into working with kids or with people in general. I'd like to work with disabled children, specifically children with speech problems, occupational therapy, speech therapy, applied behavioral analysis, something like that. I know this job will not be here for the rest of my working life, time to start planning now I guess.
My sons are born again too and their wives can't leave the house, home school the kids, no tv,
and if my DIL wanted to work, it is out of the question. One of my sons just believes in having babies and having babies. They now have 5. I divorced his dad and apparently his dad taught them this is the American way. I just feel so bad for both my sons' wives. They both are born again and both live their life that way.
Honestly, I send my kids to public school. They've never had a belly ache either.
must you be so full of yourself?
POLL: Home School vs. Charter School vs. Public School vs. Priv ate School...
Pros and cons of each too. I have two little ones that will be starting school soon and I would like opinions on all. Thanks in advance! :)
WORKING WITH KIDS
I have an in home MT position with a company and I am required to work set hours pt. Does anyone have to work set hours and have an infant at home? Can this be done successfully?
When the kids started school I wanted a job in my home town. A hospital clerk position (sm)
came open. You started compiling charts, making copies, etc. Then I was promoted after a few months and began learning transcription and did that part of the day. Then a few months later they taught me coding and abstracting and I did that part of the day. It was a great learning experience to learn things from the bottom up. Needless to say, I am an old dog here who has been doing this more than 25 years now.

Was told working directly in MS Word...sm
when I asked what the platform was, that's what she said.
Now I see why I have to have unlimited long distance, and a second phone line!
My doc told me elec. records not working out.

I was working yesterday and told hubby
I absolutely without a doubt think all predoctors (new word I just made up, if they can, I can too) have to go to school to learn how to dictate horribly before being able to become a true M.D. Snort, cough, sniffing up phlegm, swallowing their spit, irritates the crap out of me.
working with young kids
I have been working at home since my first child was a day old and all I can say is you get used to it and so do they since they don't know any different. I think it would be harder having them a bit older and then starting to work at home. I took short breaks for feeding but worked during the regular work day other than that, just had the baby lying on a blanket next to my chair or in a bouncer seat or sometimes on my lap, and as he got older he started playing next to my desk. The second time around I had twins, and well, that was a bit harder, but I fed them both at the same time and put them on the same feeding and nap schedules to maximize both work time and my sanity.
Ya do what ya gotta do.
working at home with kids
it's nice to hear all the positive things about mothers who work from home and have had good experiences keeping their kids home...I have had a different experience, though not negative, but honestly, my working from home and my kids knowing that I'm here was kind of hard in the sense that because I am at home, they think that I can stop typing and do for them...that is when they were smaller...now that my girls are older, they definitely respect my working at home, but when my son came along...it was kind of the same thing...he knows mommy is in a room typing at his home, and he wants to play with me or come in and talk or wants to go outside and play, which I would love to be able to do instead of work anyday! LOL but of course, as you all can relate to, we have to work!
Anyway, I just find it a little more difficult to work at home with kids...there are some days that I truly wish that I worked out of the home because it's stressful to try and work when you hear chaos going on in the other room.....not always, but typical arguing, my son crying about something, etc., but then when I look at all the good things that comes from that...me actually being here to go in and help them work through their problems, and knowing exactly what's going on in my home at all times, I wouldn't change it for the world and really feel fortunate, though I do have those moments when I'm ready to move my computer to my mother's house and drive to work everyday!! LOL
Also working two jobs...
My first job lost the account I was on and put me on two smaller accounts. I was getting very little work so took a second job for 15 hours per week. Now that I've been working that job for a week I've just been informed that my workload is going to pick up from my first job. I'm completely stressed out and don't know what to do. I hate working for two companies but am scared to leave either one of them for fear of hitting a big famine again. I might be brave enough to do it if I weren't afraid of the gas bill this winter but, alas, I'm pretty much stuck.
working 2 jobs
Yes, I'm working 2 jobs, one is FT, the other is probably 30 hours a week (??) maybe. I feel for your situation. I remember the days when an experienced MT was so hard to find. Now I'm working 2 jobs just to pay the bills 1 job used to be able to handle. Go figure. I'll never leave working from home, I love it. Get more work done working from home. I hate running out of work too.
Working 2 jobs
Oh my goodness. I remember about 11 years ago I worked 2 jobs for a solid year. I was putting in 68 hours a week. I never really counted the hours until the other day. I don't know how I did it. Sunday was my only day off. I couldn't handle that schedule now. But wait a minute, I'm pretty close to those hours now. We have to do what we can do to get by. We are in good company.
For those of you working two jobs...
back to back, like a full-time 8-5 and then part-time 5-9 or longer, how hard is it to do that? Any tips on not wearing out? TIA
the best is when you're told everything,
no matter what, is typed verbatim (except obvious background conversations) then if you do it-they treat you like an idiot because you didn't fix it. then if it's brought up in a department meeting the comment is 'we type verbatim and that means exactly what the doc says, but it's ok to correct things to make them make sense'. i know that i'm not a rocket scientist but if we make changes then it's not verbatim right!??!
working full time with kids
If it is about taking off a couple years, there is nothing wrong with that. However, you just can't say that it cannot be done - because there are several of us here that, obviously, can do it.
