The auesome power of prayer at work
once again! Sorta puts all our little gripes in perspective.
For those that now the power of prayer, please pray for a friend whose 4-year-old son is in the sm
hospital with bleeding on the brain. She is employed in the MT field and really needs our support right now. TIA.
In Hampton Roads (Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Virginia) they are but sm
I was disturbed to hear on the 12 o'clock news they will only help Katrina victims who are living with relatives. I think its a SHAME.
West coast prices are usually higher (I work for a west coast company) sm
for one thing. I am in a rather economically depressed area and I START my price at .14 and drop a penny for each of several things - no tapes, sending electronically, etc.
This job of the OP may be a bugger-bear to transcribe. Even .14 may be too low.
Can You Put In the Work to Help the Rally?
I'll admit, I've kind of gone back and forth throughout the years about offshoring. Ours is a global society, and it stands to reason that jobs of many kinds will eventually fan out around the world.
However, I cannot help but get stuck on the lack of regulation that these overseas companies get away with. It worries me (personally) to go to the doctor or the hospital, knowing that my medical records are in the hands of incompetent ESL transcriptionists, my personal data could be sold to the highest bidder at any second, or my sensitive information could be posted on the internet in a moment's notice by a disgruntled Transcriptionist in another country.
But I haven't known what to do about any of it over the years.
I have a proposition.
I am a medical transcriptionist and a relatively successful freelance writer (when I have the inspiration and motivation). I can put all of this information in one cohesive article that will speak to non-transcriptionists (something I think we've been very unsuccessful at so far). I can approach news channels and papers and other venues ... and I have no doubt that, in the right light, the story can be told and told effectively.
However, what we need is one informational website that the general public can understand and get involved with.
Something that easily outlines the problems with offshoring sensitive medical information, in addition to the corruption that is rife in our industry.
A place where people can sign a petition (and understand why they are signing it). A hub that outlines why the everyman/woman should be concerned.
Without something like that - somewhere to direct people to take action - our plight and our beliefs become another 500-word story that shuffles to the back of the database, or a 7-minute newsreel that gathers dust for years to come, forgotten as quickly as it was seen because it's sandwiched between double homicides and presidential speeches.
If there is anyone out there who has the technical knowledge (or knows someone who does - coders, designers, etc.) and would like to work with me on this, I will do whatever writing it takes to make this work.
Again, my vision for this is something VERY simple - nothing technical that will turn off non-transcriptionists. Something along the lines of a very, very simplified For Dummies book feel.
If you think you might be interested, feel free to reply to me here or via email in the link.
trapped nyc kitten
Does anyone know if they rescued that trapped kitten in NY yet?
Those tourists you speak of were still trapped as of last night so
their money did NOT buy them a rescue either. They are in no better and no worse shape than anyone else trapped in the city.
Sadly, this affected everyone there, no matter what kind of money they did or did not have.
Coal Miners
I am praying for you and your families. I have been in prayer most of the day and just want to believe as you do that things will be ok. Thy Will be Done.

Wow! 105 in Virginia!
Is that a record?? It is hot in the West, even moreso than usual. Im ready for it to go away and for the kiddies to go back to school.
out of Virginia?
If so, don't fool with them, very unorganized and they send contracts that do not pertain to the job offered. They are another company that delights in taking money from you. I was offered QA and turned it down due to the contract.

I lived in Virginia for a while.
I thought it was pretty funny that my ex and his family where always carrying people somewhere. "I have to carry mom over to the store."
We live in Virginia sm
and my daughter heard about it at school. The people it happened to surely told others. BTW, my daughter heard that the spider(s) had laid eggs all over the boy's brain. I did explain to her that wasn't possible, but I can only imagine how this "fish" story will grow.
Dorthy? you mean Virginia? lol

ONE Virginia scenario
SCENARIO: You and your husband jointly own a home, both names are on the deed. You both technically own the home 100%. That's right, 100% plus 100% equals 100%. He has NO WILL, but dies, taking his 100% with him. You are left with 100%. If he dies with NO WILL and your name is not on the deed, the house is divided between you and any children. My grandmother, mean-spirited woman that she was, was widowed. Husband had no will. Grandma had a will, and left $1 to one of her children. However, her name had never been on the deed of the house. So, she really did not have the right to only leave that child $1.00, and when she died, all of her children received equal portions of the estate. Because her name was not on the deed, the house was not 100% hers upon grandpa's death, even though she was legally married to grandpa.
I had said 8 PM EST, not west.

reply to Virginia too about the levy's
The Army Corps of Engineers have grovele, begged & pleaded with the federal goverment fo the last 6 year for more funding to upgrade those levy's. In fact, the first one to breach was the exact one the corps just sent an additional plea to Washington for more money as little as six weeks ago!
It is the City or New Orleans to maintain the levy's and they have done the best job they could with such outdated equipment, but it is the Army Corps of Engineer's overall responsibility, as is every inland waterway in America.
They have likened the despair and anger of the corps to the various CIA/FBI agents who kept telling Washington there was suspicious activity pre-911, that fell on deaf ears.
Not trying to start an issue here, trying to place blame or getting on a political soapbox, just stating fact. for the life of me, I do not understand why there has no been an emergency plan on the table for the type of evacuation that was needed? We have such plans in my neck of the woods for Tornado's or flooding of our waterway's.
Convoy's of buses (provided in a joint effort of the local/state and federal government)lined up "just in case" may have cost the city extra money in overtime/fuel,manpower, etc,but look at the cost now! Those people did not have the money, fuel or four wheels to even make an informed decsion.
There is and will be plenty of blame to carry us into the next century, but now is the time for all of us to unite, to get these people out of that hell hole and to make a promise to our next generations that this will never happen again. Yes, it was an act of nature, but the responses to cries for help was in the hands of our elected officials...all the way around

Found out laws in Virginia. sm
One-third will go to me and two-thirds will go to kids (remarriage). We can't stand each other, and they will kick me out. Hubby not happy. Have another house but if I'm contributing to household should get to decide what happens to house if he passes, since I live there. He's thinking it over.
Virginia is taking 4000--- some are staying at the Mariot
Nice digs. They are also putting them in camps by the lake.
I know it is nice, but think of what it is like to not have a home.
I would not want to be like this, but it could happen to any of us.
Congratulations! Diana O. of W. Virginia on winning the third dinner!
Send an email to admin@mtstars.com with your full address and your choice of dinner gift card and we will ship it out to you immediately!
Been looking for a copy of "True West" which
was a play on PBS in the 80s! Also starred John Malkavich. A wonderfully funny play. Wish I could get my hands on a copy.
West Coast to Amherst
I am a little confused--areyou located on the West Coast and your account was transferred to Amherst, did your office close?? It seems that any account that Foxboro or Amherst gets, they just load up with as many MT's as they can, this could be from over hiring and it could from the lose of existing accounts, whatever, it does not make sense, you don't go around making thrats about hiring other people. Is upper management getting bonus's from this??

Come on over to the west coast too where interracial marriage
It is very small minded to think that crossing races to marry is wrong. Again, we are all people, no matter what color we are. For example, I would rather my daughter marry a black man who treated her with respect, love, kindness, being an equal than married to a white man who treated her like trash. Note that I said EXAMPLE, the race could vary of course.
west coast metropolitan area gets 14 cpl
yes, 14 cpl with pick up and delivery. Probably one of the highest in the nation. But, my friend who did local work for 20 years was just outsourced to India along with the other gals, the whole large clinic, so there goes THAT job !
BTW, do you already do local work? Do they supply the transcriber and set you up, or do you have to have that set up already and set THEM up? That has been a mystery to me as I have only worked online with nationals....how to get started with local work.. Maybe a counselor or something like that. My friend is no help as she started 20 years ago for the same company and does not know how things go nowdays.
im sure it will be... maybe moderater is on west coast time?
I dont know how the moderating works, but if I got emailed and my post deleted because i said the name of another website just in asking a question... then this surely must be deleted
Prayer for 4-year-old boy
I just did pray for him. Please let us know how he is doing, so we can see the result of our prayers.
Thanks.
Lynn
Nice. Will say a prayer for you both.
and Happy Easter to you and yours. You have your hearts in the Right Place. We have lots to be thankful for.
I do not think her issue was with prayer...
I believe what she meant was that she had never heard this dictated before; therefore, she was questioning it. She was not questioning whether it is okay for a physician to pray with his patient.
Wow---chill out everyone! OP said nothing against prayer or
it was allowed in a report.
It's no different than asking if typing someone "makes her money on her back" is appropriate. It's not the subject itself---it's whether or not it should be in a medical document because it's not medical. My answer is yes...if the doc dictates it then you put it in. There have been plenty of things over the years I would've left it, but you just put it in.
There's no reason for these attacks on her though...she didn't say anything was wrong with prayer. She didn't say she didn't tolerate anything Christian.
Everyone is WAY, WAY to defensive on this. She could very well be Christian herself, but you don't know that because she didn't say one way or another and didn't say it was good or bad.
Prayer mention
Why is it that no one has any questions as to the mention of abortions or homosexuality or selling sex in any way, but we question a mention of prayer. Christians are supposed to be tolerant of freedom of speech but we no longer have it it seems. We are supposed to accept differences in cultures but we are not allowed to pray in school openly, but homosexuals for example can kiss and hold hands in schools. I am a very tolerant person I just wonder why things like prayer are not tolerated but rather some kind of violation or "no way" type of thought to others who may not believe. And before anyone blasts me I have friends that are very dear to my heart that are gay both female and male, and have atheist and pagan friends. I believe that we all have the right to believe the way we do and express ourselves freely. I am only sorry that we are looking for "rules" to avoid the mention of prayer.
How do you know they said a Christian prayer?
It is very possible that both the patient and physician are Muslims. You are only assuming it was Christian prayer and getting your panties in a knot based on that assumption.
Christian prayer
I know because I know the docs personally. I am a paramedic and have also worked as a nurse in several docs offices.
I see nothing wrong with prayer...sm
If a doctor prays with a patient then I think that is fine if the patient is okay with it. As MTs it is our job to type whatever they dictate. So if they dictate about praying we should just type it and not worry about it. It is a job.
Why shouldn't it be part of the report. It is the doctor's report for that patient. If the patient is okay with it it is not for you as the MT, in my opinion, to decide hey this doesn't belong here. The doctor wouldn't have dictated it if he didn't want it in the report. And I believe when a doctor dictates something it is your job to type it. Don't ask questions, just type, unless it is something you have been trained not to type.
I say even if you don't agree with it and if you don't that by all means is your right as an American citizen. But if he wants it in the report just put it and be done with it.
A Prayer for the New Year
As the dawn breaks on a new year, let us give thanks for all we hold dear: our health, our family and our friends.
Let us release our grudges, our anger and our pains, for these are nothing but binding chains. Let us live each day in the most loving ways, the God-conscious way. Let us serve all who are in need, regardless of race, color or creed.
Let us keep God of our own understanding in our hearts and to chant God’s name each day. Let us lead the world from darkness to light, from falsehood to truth and from wrong to right.
Let us remember that we are all one, embracing all, discriminating against none.
May your year be filled with peace, prosperity and love. May God's blessings shower upon you and bestow upon each of you a bright, healthy and peaceful new year.
