chair height
Yes, I have a chair with adjustable height.  I have not tried moving it up or down yet.  Just tried working today with a firm pillow under my right arm.  I have a wireless keyboard and mouse to I am not hitting the keys hard at all.  I am noticing when I type, my left arm is extended straight out for the most part, but my right elbow is angle a bit out to the right.  When I type I can feel the muscles working up and down my right arm, so I know this must be causing friction on my elbow.  I am applying IcyHot as often as I can and that does seem to help, plus flexing my arm as much as I can in between typing.  It hurts right on the bone of my elbow, even to touch it.......so sore!!!
Do you have a chair that you can adjust the height? nm

The chair make look similar, but I can...

If it is okay for her to cheat. let her confine it to sticking her hand in YOUR pocket, she can keep it out of mine.  What your g'mom think of you condoning this behavior?  Do you teach your kids to cheat on tests?

look at it from another angle

Part of the reason so much work is being outsourced is because there are not enough high-quality MTs in this country.  We have a lot of MTs, I know, but I firmly believe, as an educator of an MT program, that many of them do not come out of school work-ready.  It is my hope that by the apprenticeship program becoming a reality, that we will boost the skill level of our new graduates and thereby making ourselves more marketable.  Off-shoring is here to stay, unfortunately, simply because of the cost, but I think there are enough hospitals and institutions out there who demand higher quality than what off-shoring can give, and the MTs in this country simply have to rise above and prove that we are better/more educated; that we are WORTH it.

I understand your point, I really do, but I am looking at it from another angle of better education and skills for our US MTs.

the right angle on the situation

Now this IS an angle -- who IS responsible should something happen?  But betcha they've got plenty of coverage whoever it is.

The fact that we are losing our jobs to this is just a small piece of the pie of millions of Americans losing their jobs to offshoring.  Ten to one, most of the people you tell about this going on will tell you, "Oh!  But my doctor would NEVER do that!"  And they ask their doc, and he says, "No!  I send my work to an American service."  Does it stay in America????  What if any policies are in place to find out and ensure that it does?  Every physician I've asked about this is surprised that any company would offshore their dictation.  All they do is complain about how full of mistakes it is and how disgusted they are with the return.

This is one of the medical community's dirtly little secrets.  It needs a thorough investigation by a concerned reporter to blow the lid off of it on a show like 60 minutes.  But who owns the networks, folks?  Who owns the media?  Those with the power, those with the money, those who are profitting by offshoring.  You think they have no financial investment in all this?  Think again.  It's not in their best interest to expose this.

Now a remark was posted some days ago which I thought was great and it was to the effect that (as far as I know, and I may be wrong), when America offshores, the American people lose out on social security, etc. that American workers would be paying.  Now THIS seems to be something that might wake people up.  THIS aspect of offshoring would impact everyone and might get people to listen.  But I don't have the facts here, so I may be all wrong.  It just got my interest up.

The fight needs to be against offshoring in general and keeping jobs in America and protecting the American worker and the American economy.  I think that is where we will get the largest group of people on our side.

And we need to change the public's perception of us as just clerk typists who do "medical stuff."  If it takes more education, we get it.  If it takes certification, we get it.  We do all in our power to eliminate the mental picture of a typist at the kitchen table in pjs with toddlers at his/her feet and elevate it to a professional behind a desk with the education and professional work ethic who makes a needed contribution to the medical industry at large.  They don't feel they need us.  People think anyone can do this job, that we're just a bunch of stay at home moms, etc. who for whatever reason don't want to leave the house to work.    We have to prove them wrong and show them we are as much a professional as anyone else who works from home be they accountant, dentist, or even physician.   Then we have to convince them to pay us as professionals because we're worth it, and we HAVE to be worth it.  If somehow, some day offshoring ends, we HAVE to be ready to pick up the pieces and demand what we are worth.  Why should we give away our services, be grateful to a company for "letting us work at home."  We are saving THEM money by working at home.  It is THEY who should be grateful to us and compensate us accordingly.  But again, our work has to be of such a quality that we are worth what we demand.  Medical transcription is a profession, not a hobby.

right angle on the situation
Very well said. (clap) (clap)
The A-angle keys are very natural feeling (sm)
virtually takes seconds to get used to. I've tried lots of the ergo keyboards and haven't liked any of them. I have zero patience for "getting used to" something and zero time, too! This keyboard is not at all like the ergonomic ones, more like a regular keyboard with a little angle to the keys, so if you are wanting an ergonomic keyboard, this really isn't it.

hth!
I better switch my computer chair for a potty chair. nm

Actually it is the height of human
We are poisoning the earth and ourselves. Nature is amazing in her resilience, but do you know how long it takes the ecosystem to recover from fires and floods? Did you know that fire retardant has been found in human breast milk? What about the amount of pesticides and chemicals in the bloodstreams of infants and children? Denial is the only thing scarier than that. Do the research, it will open your eyes.
height of desk
But aren't most hotel desks sort of high? That is what I was wondering.  It does seem like a convenient options.  My husband travels a lot, and once the kids are both in college, I would like to start going with him some.
Mine are on a beanbag wrist rest. Need wrists at 90-degree angle
s
My PT recommended changing the height sm
and the position of the chair a few times a day, getting up and walking around q hour, etc. Sitting for prolonged periods as we do causes us to "freeze" and get into trouble with aches and pains. It really does help to move around a bit.

Height of hurricane season is Aug-Oct. (SM)
A friend booked a FL vacation during September. Told her don't do it.  She still did.  She had to cancel the entire vacation and "could not believe a hurricane hit."  I always told family/friends to never go anywhere in the Atlantic, Gulf, FL, islands during hurricane season but they book it anyway because it's cheaper, then they complain about hurricanes ruined their plans.  DUH!
Keyboard height issues

It seems my keyboard is just a bit too high (or my chair is just a bit too low), as I am developing wrist extensor problems and ending up with a weak right hand, making it difficult to type.  (I have been massaging it, but can't keep on top of it.)

I tried putting the keyboard on my lap, which really helped my arms but caused more trouble with my legs (I have circulatory problems in my legs).  I also tried sitting on a pillow to boost me up higher, which, for some reason, also caused more trouble with my legs.

I have my keyboard on a tray below my desk and my chair at the highest it can go. - Any other ideas out there?  (Can't afford one of those cool desks where you can sort of recline and no husband to rig up something for me.)

Thanks for any tips!

Why dont you stop coming in and agitating everyone under all your different names. Dont you work.

I use Gold Touch tented up. LOVE it!!! Adjust seat to right height and hands stay in

The way I understand it if you dont keep below 10 to 15% QA you dont get the bonus even if your QA
score remains above 98% so you see as the other poster said you are between a rock and a hard place and I expect this is MQ way of getting out of paying a bonus to people. I see it this way anyhow. I plan to continue to send unclear things to QA and that is the way it is. I expect depending on the new pay scale on top of this they will be losing a lot of MTs anyhow as they continue to miser everyone out of money.
Do you honestly think they do. I dont. I dont think some of them can even understand some of the

reports they listen to quite frankly.

If you dont want to read a thread, then dont.

I need a new chair!

I have had this chair for about 8 years.  I have to sit on pillows or else it feels like I am sitting on bare metal!   I am ready to buy a new one & would appreciate suggestions.

TIA

chair.

Herman Miller Aeron Chair, changed my LIFE!!!!  Can't say enough good about it.  The cost is high, but I felt I could justify it since I spend so much time sitting in it, check it out on ebay, lot cheaper, that is where I got mine.

chair
Am looking for a new one.  What kind do you have?
chair
When I was going to PT because of a MVA the theapist told me to allow the chair to support the back, not to sit like they used to make us sit straight and forward but sit back and allow the chair to support you. Also hold in your core muscles.  Once I have done this as well as having a chair that I can easily change up and down positions, I have not had a problem.  She said a pillow would not support the entire back and and thus put you off balance again and you then overcompensate for it.  So I sit completely back in my chair with my entire back being supported by the chair.  Also sit a little higher up.  Works for me and never have a back ache.  Also chair is not one of the most expensive models, $99 at Office Depot.  Though I do need a new one as it is 6 years old.   I work 8 to 10 hours per day in this chair.
chair help sm
Go to a site called "Nada Chair" it is not a chair but a device that pulls your spine forward by attaching a belt via a strap to your knees. My son is  a PT and one of his patients swears by it. Just check it out. Been there, it's painful, every little bit helps, also ask for a TENS unit. Good luck! I empathize!
chair
my sister visited a chiropracter in atlanta and was told of an office chair called herman miller but is pricey. She has one and loves it so far. it is the best one out there of late. visit CSN-chair.com they have different types, but they sound like a dream! Thank you for your well wishes and hope you are doing okay too! I e-mailed you also
chair
Hi - I've had many various chairs over the past 10 years, and just found the perfect one for me for about $250.00.

It's the Unanimous model chair from the Hon company, part of their 7600 series -- specifically, the 7602 model is the best. It has a high back and adjustable everything -- seat depth, back height, arm width and height, etc...

I've spent lots of money on chairs and love this one!

Sites like NexTag do comparison pricing and show you where you can get the exact item you want at the best price.

Good luck!
chair
I would try out some chairs at the office supply stores for good lumbar support. I also found that chairs with arm rests were very tiring as the arm rests got in the way of my elbows. I use a pillow to push me forward and also a Nada chair device. They have a website which explains how this work, pulls your spine forward by straps that go over your knees. It was a gift from a therapist. Works pretty well. Also, a microwaveable heating pad helps. Good luck, sometimes more than a chair is needed. It's painful, I know!
Best chair - sm
I have been working from home for many years, and over the years, I bought a new chair just about every 12 months, until this past year. I splurged and bought a Henry Miller Aeron chair, and it's wonderful. No more back pain, no more neck pain, no more shoulder pain. I wish I had saved all the money I spent on a chair every year and bought this one back then. They are expensive, but check online, you can find some good deals with free shipping, and sometimes no tax. The chair is well worth the investment if you can swing it. Hope this helps.
Chair
The chair in the link I am providing is by far the best chair I have ever owned.
Chair
I bought the chair in the link below and it has been the BEST chair I have ever used. I have major back problems (we're talking 2 back surgeries in the last 3 years) and I can sit in this chair with no problems at all. It has multiple functions for lumbar support, back support, and the arms can go up and down/in and out. I highly recommend it! Also, if you live anywhere near an Office Depot store, shipping is free. The closest Office Depot store to me is like 75 miles away and they still delivered it for free.
Good luck, I knew I had a really hard time finding something I liked for a long time too.
Chair
Thanks for recommending this chair! I have been looking for a chair for so long and can't find one that is quite right. This one looks like it has everything I need - I'm heading to Office Depot this weekend to try it out. Thanks so much!!
chair

I have a herman miller Mirra chair that I love.  Very expensive (over 700 bucks) but way worth the money.

This is the best chair I have ever owned and the price is fairly reasonable.

New Chair !
I am very happy to share this information. My daughter graduated from college in May in interior design. She found this chair 2 yrs ago and after I took a week off and came back to my old chair and could not get out of it, I drove and bought this. Go to google.  Allsteel chair, the one I got is #19. I spent a lot of money on it, but it is SO worth it, all my pain is GONE! You will have find a dealer near you. I live in upstate NY and drove 180 miles round trip to get it.
You spending 3K in gasoline to make 4K plus all that time on the road? That doesn't make sense Pat

Aeron chair
I went online and found the closest Herman Miller distributor (which happened to be Las Vegas for me) and drove there and picked it up.  I have had a few people tell me they have seen them at Costco, but I am not sure if they are authorized distributors and if buying from them voids the warranty.  Because it is such a big investment, my recommendation would be to buy from your closest authorized dealer (per the web site.)  The shipping is what it is - but the main thing is to get your chair from a reputable dealer. -Dana
My dog sleeps right behind my chair..
She has been having a real hard time with the weather and is always itchy and has hot spots, so when she sleeps or relaxes, I just here until she gets up on her own.  Seems like she has so few moments of peace this summer.  Her coat looks awful.
Aeron chair
I have one too and they are so worth it! My back used to kill me sitting for 10-12 hours a day. Now I never have that problem. I know they are expensive but if you can at all swing one, buy it! Think of it as an investment in your health.
KNEELING CHAIR (SM)
Has anyone used a kneeling chair?  Are the comfortable?  I would like to alternate between my regular chair and a kneeling chair to change positions during the day, but was not sure how comfortable they were.
