They have to make money somehow since they have declining membership dues. nm

In a perfect world, dues would be enough; however, the Olympics is not about dues, it's about sm
winning.  There are lots of athletes through the years I rooted for who were good but not good enough.  Is Michelle good enough?  Should she bump another more talented younger athlete from the team?   Sentimentally, yes.  Realistically no.
Big mistake to every go lower than what you currently make. Don't do it.

MTs like you cause lower rates for us. Co's have to make
After all the time and money spent in getting you hired and equipment ordered and sent to you and then you pull that.

It costs the companies considerably. This is passed onto the rest of us as restricted line rates.

Thanks a lot. We appreciate it.

Gawd.

You're likely to make more money on the lower rate because easier to understand and can probably
faster and need less time to look things up, etc. Just my 2 cents.
Don't they make you use a computer they send you?
nm
instead of outsourcing Wal-Mart is "importing" illegal aliens to work for pennies

Does your program change lower case to upper? If so, type all in lower and
it will change the ones it is supposed to.
Speaking of offshoring MT work, who does not directly send work offshore?
Just curious.  Has anyone got a list of companies who do not send work offshore?  Precyse?  MQ?  Spheris?
Good. Why dont you send some our way. What office do you work for so I can call and get your work.
:
I wouldn't lower my rates. Should I request a lower CPL from my employer
because I use a ton of normals, templates and such to increase my line count?
Will all the big nationals running us out of work and lower our wages what suggestion does anyone

have. This situation is getting extremely serious for people that need to make a living. What a shame.

A co I used to work for would send me
hard copies of supposedly MY reports with errors. I would instantly know it wasn't my work, and would look at the MT ID # at the bottom of the report - NOPE, not mine. Naturally they were sending me the worst MT's reports, too, but I was fairly certain it was the person mailing them that was making the errors because my QA scores were very good.
I did pay my dues
I did pay my dues but got into this when it was a good field to pick up own accounts and they have stayed with me, some for 18 years.  But through this I have a few that did not pay, was not the right fit, etc.  But now  I pick up the little accounts, 1 to 2 docs with tapes still but it has treated me good.  I still fight traffic once a day (I chose the time of the day) but I enjoy getting out of the house and seeing the gals at the office.  I have 6 to 7 years full-time until I can quit and then will do part-time.  I know it could change tomorrow and so that is why I appreciate what I have today.  I have learned that I worry too much about tomorrow and was not enjoying today and changed this a year or two ago.   I put in about 35 hours a week with pick up and delivery, have two part-time IC's.
I say let them try to send all of their work offshore
I think they would end up with some unhappy clients.
unfortunately they send work to other countries

they offshore to other countries from the usa because what's important to most dictators, and again unfortunately, is the cheapest price they will get for transcription......now, I didn't say they would receive good quality MT work back - but they will only be paying 3, 4 or 5 cpl for that offshore work.....so they have chosen to COMPROMISE QUALITY!!!!  Blechhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Do you normally send your work each day as 1 email ? - sm
If that is the case, then make sure you save all the sent emails (I save it all) and then all you have to do is bring up her email address, select all the appropriate emails that were all ready sent, hit forward for all of them and enter in her email. Should take you less than 5 minutes to do all this and be relatively painless. --- if this does not work, yes, go for the billing route, she should be saving the work or at least keeping a backup copy of it for a min. of 3 months. I could see a file now and then but not all the time as she is doing. Very disorganized. Good luck.
are you current with your dues?
'Nuff said.
Everyone must pay their dues....we experienced MTs sm
worked in the office in the beginning of our career. I am not as old as one might think, 38 years old, but I started MT while still in high school in the 10th grade on a typewriter. I paid my dues many times over before I could have a career at home. I have to tell you, the experience and knowledge gained in that time is priceless. Yes, we learn something new every day, but in the office you have the doctors, nurses, OMs, and other MTs to offer their assistance. If you don't know a word or can't understand it, you go right to the doc himself. So, the next time you hear it, you know what the heck he/she was talking about. That is how you learn. Sorry to say it, but an office job or MT job in one specialty is where you should start. These schools tell you that you can work at home after you finish their course. That just is an outright untruth!

Just had to give my 10 cents worth.
Transcend does not send work offshores...sm
and continues to fight against offshoring.
Does anyone send cards or anything to the office they work for? (sm)

Years ago when I worked for a smaller company a bunch of us made a big  box of goodies and mailed it to the office.  They were such great people, helpful and cheerful. The company always sent us something and we didn't want to just send to the owner of the company so we felt a card in a box of goodies everyone could share.  Smaller places have more of a personal feel .

Now I work for a larger company and home made goodies may not be such a good idea. (The shipping alone would be a killer.)  I guess a card addressed to "everyone" will have to do it.  Thought about having X-mas cards made up with  my family picture on it and sending that to kind of help them also put a face to the name.  Too much?  Think I would be better off with just a standard card?

Those of you that are doing anything for the office you work out of, what are you doing?  Would love to "borrow" a really good idea.

TIA

They'll send an email out when they need extra work done.
The bonuses are tied to taking on extra work on top of your regular workload, not production or longevity.  It's per extra shift or per extra report on backlogged accounts.  Call and talk to them if you have any questions.
Transcend Services doesn't send work outside of the US.
.
Keystrokes does not and will not send work out of the United States. nm
nm
Do you honestly think MQ doesnt send work to India, etc.
:
Just got E-mail from someone who is Pakistani wanting me to send them work for 3 cpl. (sm)

First off I am a MT myself, not a company and have no idea why they are soliciting work from individuals, unless they think we will sub-contract it to them.

Wait until we get a lower base rate and incentive and no work for incentive.Should prove interesting
because everyone will probably have a lower base rate than now. As I say, should prove interesting.
Sounds like union tactics, dues and all.

off shore
Not that I am aware.
I would just supply one digital copy, either send the work back
via an FTP site or email attachment or whatever, or keep addending to a CD, but let them keep their own archives. And why can't they print when you deliver the CD or the work in digital format? I don't do any printing at all. Everything goes back digital and they keep their own copies. Once I bill for the month, everything gets deleted, as it should be under HIPAA.
Just say it's not going to work out, quit, and send the stuff back. Not like you'll be using t

And how much do you pay out of pocket for AHDI dues? And required CEUs?

Yes, unfortunately you do have to make a pest of yourself to make it work, but.....
as the years went by that is why I stayed away from those type of companies.  BTW, Noni is a fabulous product, I absolutely do not care for the "marketing techniques" they use.  One of the facts of this type of industry is you cannot just recruit to make it, you have to retail.  Ever since I "overhauled" my techniques and system...I never had to ask another person to some on board again.  Well, nuf for now.  Take care and have a blessed week!!
TransHealth does not off shore, they hire all US MTs, sm
Their benefit package is great.  They pay a very competitive line rate.  They get my vote.
"How to off-shore MT to China?"...
Why in the WORLD would they be involved with something in China, unless they are planning to assist them with taking MORE of our work?????  I can see it now . . . first China, then India, Pakistan...on and on.  We can pay to watch them put us out of work.  Yipee.  "American" was taken out of the name for obvious reasons.
Where I am now used to off-shore to India at night - sm
like that too, but we reclaimed it and now there are 3 of use who take care of these 7 doctors. I really hated that knowing if I went to bed that when I woke up all my work would be gone and done by India. Now I don't have that pressure anymore and it is nice, and I have larger paychecks now because of it.
Wonder why no posting there that off shore s allowed now
I plan on posting a job ad to see how many off shore resumes I get. Start deleting postings on that board - you will never know who I am

Probably because the off-shore people will take 2 cents a line.
That's not a workable wage in America.
Off-shore owned MTSO usually have a token US citizen as the front guy.

Just catching up ... Pls read if you're concerned about off-shore outsourcing...

I'm gratified that the people on this board are brainstorming with each other.  I've been "lurking" and reading what's been happening. I have a few comments and thoughts.

Some of the participants here say to send to NBC News, FOX news, etc.  Others say to send to Oprah and yet others say their congressman or senator.

I say we should each individually write a letter and copy same to each and every outlet we can think of!  All of the above, senators, newscasters, Oprah, whatever and whomever.  Until all of these sources are utterly swamped with letters regarding our plight (as well as the plight of radiologists, accountants, billers and coders, etc. all of whom are losing work to off shore outsourcing) we will be ignored.  Thousands upon thousands of letters need to be sent out either by snail mail or e-mail.  We cannot rely on anyone else to do it for us.  Each one of us has to take the responsibility to make it known that we don't like it and we will vote in the next election for only those politicians that take a stand against off-shore outsourcing.  Can we all take ten minutes to write a letter and another ten minutes each and every day to send out said letter?  We can send duplicates to the same place.  Lord knows that they don't pay attention until thousands of letters come in with the same message.  Ten minutes a day - each of us - just think how many letters to our congress and to the press could be sent out if we all took the time to do so!

I, for one, will post here a list of places that I have sent a letter to in the hopes that it will inspire you to do the same.

Saugatuck, MI is great dog friendly place if you want to go N. Try Lake Shore Reality. Google em.

ProScript Documentation Services does not send work overseas or employ any overseas MTs. (nm)

I make that much and work...
for a hospital, from home. My colleagues at the other hospitals in this area also make in that range as well.
I work for 2 companies and make
0.0825 cents per 65 character line with spaces at one and 0.10 cents per 65 character line with spaces at the other so it just goes to show it varies.
Depends on who you work for as to how much you make..
The first online company I worked for, unfortunately, found out later they were India-based. Anyway, I work in Escription and made SQUAT. It would take 12 hours or more to make $100. Now, I work for another company that uses Escription and I can make up to $26 an hour doing VR. I think these companies set something up in the line count as how to count it and also it depends if they pay for headers, footers, etc. I definitely got ripped off the first go round. I like the company I work for now and like Escription. You can make money on this platform, although I am paid more than 3.5 for VR. That is ridiculous.
I need computer help. How do I make PRD work

PRD is on my old MQ program, but I can't seem to get it moved over to my Microsoft Word page.  I can't seem to get my Stedman's Spell check over there either.

Help.

How much do you make per year doing MT and do you work PT/FT and
for a company or have your own clients?  Just wondering how I compare.  I work for both and made just over $24,000 last year.
ICs - how much do you make per line and do you work for ...sm
a large company, small company or have your own contracts?
I work at MQ, live in MI and make less than 10.5 cpl.

Make Word 03 and 07 work together!

First of all, I appologize for the LONG message, but well worth reading if you use Word.  I asked this question on the Microsoft Discussion Board on 11/7/08.  Here are the posts:

If it works for you, feel free to share with your colleagues. If double
clicking a doc or dot file opens Word 2003 and not 2007 it should work with
the company software - depending on how the company software calls Word.

I hope this will help everyone!  I know it helped me.  I love typing in Word2007, but for now, I will have to type in Word 2003 until my company's software is compatible with it.  At least I can have both programs running at the same time!  The info on his web page about creating a toolbar is not necessary, unless it is something you need to do for Word 2007.
