I think MT will be around for a long time to come in one form or another. It's constantly evolving and being flexible is key to survival. Being that you are so young, why don't you just get some more education on the side. Work towards a degree of some sort. At least, it will give you comfort in knowing you have something on the back burner for the future.

No, you are not crazy, VR is coming and many of us will lose our jobs, I am 66 and still working. Had a close call from VR etc about 4 years ago but that doc left our clinic for greener pastures. If I was in your shoes, I would be looking for something else. Editing sounds good but as the machines become more adept a lot of that could go bye bye too.
