I have been a MT for nearly 20 years now. I'm just waiting for my youngest to finish school so that I can do something else (2 more years). Personally, as well as other long-time MTs are quitting. Years ago MTs were paid a decent wage; now it is bad. I make about 12 hourly ($2 more than back in 1990); 6 years ago I was making 14 to 16 per production and 18/hourly for editing. As you stated we have to work long hours just to make ends meat. My husband too complains of the long hours but I am also the family's secretary, cook, maid, etc.... That said, you have to stay focused on work and forget all the other stuff; do the housework, etc after work. Take your breaks for you, walk, etc; don't try to clean up or take care of home things; hopefully then you will not burn out. Personally, I would go back to what you did before, unless you are fast at typing. I am average. Take care
