I've been with MQ since 1998 when they
employer. Oh, I bitch and gripe about MQ on occasion, but I'm still here. Why you ask? Because it's stable and I feel secure here. I get paid on time each and every time. I always have work. I don't make much money though, but it's all my own fault. I have a decent line rate, but I zone out and waste time. I'm working on that ::smile:: Don't ever be afraid to risk trying MQ or be scared off from it. A lot of people leave MQ just to find themselves right back regetting having left in the first place.
Had it done around 1998 and I'm so glad
first thing in the morning without scrounging for glasses. I do have the halo around lights at night but it's not so bad I can't drive etc. I do think it's about time to go get my Lasik redone as my vision seems to have gotten a bit worse again, but definitely worth it and SO much better than glasses or contacts!
Yes, you sure do! We have sold since 1998, I believe. I'll never forget my first negative.
I sold a collectible PEZ angel dispenser. It sold for like $200. I had a hard photo, as in like a photo we developed from Kodak. My husband and I were SO excited, we nearly fainted. We took the thing to a professional packer, can you imagine? Back then, nobody sent packages - know what I mean? Maybe only sweet grandmas and mothers with kids at college! So, we paid nearly $20 to have this professionally packed, shipped it insured for $300, etc. Well, the buyer got it and claimed it was smashed to pieces. UPS investigated, and they are REALLY fair about this stuff - the box was unblemished - perfect condition. Because a UPS rep had packed it, it was packed to perfection and their specs, so they refused to give the guy a refund, and told us that he was a scammer. Back then in the early years of E-Bay, scammers would buy collectibles, get them shipped, and then return a broken/damaged one they had laying around already. Bait and switch! And many buyers got bullied into giving them their $$ back. So this guy went NUTS on us, demanding the $200, which was long gone for groceries! Plus he was lying, and UPS said so!! Well, he left me the most scathing negative. My very first feedback! I cried and cried and cried. Wrote to E-Bay, wrote to the President, wrote to my mother - nobody cared back then and feedback was NEVER removed no matter what. I'll never get over that first negative. Now its a scam - if you get a negative, you basically go to that company that E-Bay owns - not safe harbor - something else - the name escapes me, but they even "guarantee" some sellers. Anyhow, you go to them and basically pay $10 to $20 and your negative gets miraculously "removed"...So, even feedback really isn't reflective of the truth anymore...My husband still sells, but my heart just isn't in it anymore. He uses the $$ he makes for buying more junk to sell! It keeps him amused and out of trouble, and he's happy if he has $20 in his pocket (not much $$ in the MT world anymore!)....
Camaros..three 1994, 1998, and 1999 and a truck,
Chevy truck 2005
Love to know how far back it goes, was a member for about a year in 1998, we could use $$, furnace b
so its cold here! Actually it broke the 15, the night before we left for Disney on a Make-A-Wish trip for my daughter Jenny....(we had a blast)...got back 2 days ago, it broke again that night (21st). DH got it running again, but the heater guy disassembled it last night and has not returned yet to put it back together and fix it. Luckily we have a propane fireplace or we'd be in big trouble, still chilly though especially since it goes down to 25 at night, brrrr!---so any $$$ if we are included or entitled would be wonderful...but I doubt we will get so lucky since it was so long ago that I was a "member" of AOL. Guess I will just have to work even more to pay for the repair, fun.
I sent her an email stating AAMT didn't endore a line since 1998 and she bit my head off!

Looking to get into MT'ing
Could you please recommend a reputable company that I can get involved with to begin doing some medical transcribing? I am eager to get started. Thanks.
Maybe this is the same Busy MT'ing who will be getting a
Bachelor of Science degree in December and is going to go on to medical school. Obviously, not as happy with job as would like for us to believe.
MT'ing in a nutshell
1. You must be able to be alone alot, or else you will get very lonely. I myself love it most of the time, but there will be a few days where I long for co-workers, happy hours, and gal pal'ing with colleagues, but then i'll quickly sober up and remember the backstabbing, office politics, all women in the office pms'ing simultaneously...I would rather be alone than deal with that even one day out of the month.
2. You have to be disciplined. I am, but not to a fault. There are still at least one or two days out of the pay period where I immediately "start work" by daydreaming, surfing the internet, checking email, chatting, float from room to room aimlessly. You have to be on time, every day, ready to work, or else you won't make any money.
3. Get ready to justify being an MT to just about EVERYONE in your life. Many people do not think of this as a "real" job, which I cannot for the life of me get over. Its not respected, even though i'm very proud of my profession, and able to support myself soley on it, have a few hobbies and manage to go to school, and plan on buying a house.
4. This is THE most important...KNOW YOUR STUFF! Research, never guess, if you cannot understand a word. You will learn so much and will become that much better in the long run.
I dont know if the girls can add anything else, but those of the double edge swords we deal with. Good luck
TO BUSY MT'ING
Pay no attention to some of these people... they were abused as children. LOL
For busy MT'ing
You're quite sanctimonious, but not particularly smart. Since MQ's requirement for FTEs was never for hours, but rather 12,000 lines per pay period, AND the fact that FTMTs only get a per-line rate, what difference does it make whether they get 12,000 lines in 10 hours or 50? Does MQ plan to pay an hourly rate to go along with the line requirement? If not, why is there a new standard? I know you're a bulk producer -- as I have no way to know whether the quality of your work is as good as the amount, and assuming the QA is the same low caliber it has always been, they would never notice your errors anyway -- I'll assume you do nothing but easy accounts all day and never look anything up -- in any event, the new hourly requirement does merit questioning. MQ needs to pay an hourly rate if they are going to start a new hourly standard for FTEs. Period. Nothing unreasonable expecting they should do so. Also, YOU have a choice. You can ignore the posts -- stop reading them! You're righteous lectures are a tad tiresome. As of now, I am done reading anything YOU post.
MT'ing isn't all about speed, although...
of course it helps to type fairly fast. However, there is sooooo much more to it than just typing speed.
That being said, my own speed without using any text expansions isn't nearly as great as some mention here. I tested using expansions recently and hit well over 200 wpm. Thankfully, I am able to use a text Expander while working . . . otherwise I might starve to death.
In all my years (20+) of MT'ing
I have never had a job that followed BOS. I have a copy of BOS 2, and I think I have opened it once or twice just to peruse it on my own but not for the account on which I work.
That being said, it would be much simpler for we MTs if every facility followed it. I've had some truly bizarre account specifics where following the BOS guidelines would have been much simpler, lol!
Really more stressful than MT'ing? nm
BUSY MT'ing is a mole, I would bet on it!
She sounds like like one of my supervisors.
QA should be used to teach and aid in the process of MT'ing sm
Not to pick apart and make the MT feel inadequate. Does it really matter if there is a comma missing....not really. The report still reads the same and is a technical document.
QA should be friendly and helpful, at least that is how I try to be in my QA position. We are in this together not against each other. We have the same purpose....to make sure that patient has the most accurate record possible. We all should work as a team, in my most humble opinion.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
Busy MT'ing--please email me if you don't mind...
I've included my email address here so you can reach me. I wanted to chat with you for a second, if you don't mind....and just so ya know, I couldn't agree more!! You have hit the nail on the head!
Busy MT'ing...you took the words right out of my mouth...sm
Great advice. Attitude is everything. It brings to mind a quote I read not too long ago...
"I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails."
Oh yeah, I am Bwahaha'ing all the way to the bank (nm)

Advice on brand, RAM, etc. to load MT'ing software on.
Needing to replace my old computer for a new one. I need to get a really deal on a really fast computer. Help, please, with your experiences.
Busy MT'ing never answered the question of how many hours she works in a week.
It's not that we don't believe, necessarily. We'd just like to know HOW. I'm sure most, if not all, of us think of ourselves as somewhat intelligent, fast typists, educated, experienced, motivated, and capable. Those are pretty much givens. However, there's got to be a secret that we don't know. Is it the work type, platform, keyboard, expander, account type, national or local, big or small MTSO, clinic or acute? If we have the same tools available to us, why is there such a disparity among earnings?
YOU, Busy MT'ing, are one of those that fail to reach mature conversation when you mockingly add

In 12 years of MT'ing I've never re-read an entire chart. Edit/read as I type. nm

when i turned 18,
my mom gave me a necklace that used to be my grandmas, which i still have now 35 yr later...when one of our daughters turned 18 and was going on to college, we bought her a computer. You could ask her what would be meaningful to her too...
I just turned 24 yrs. old. MT x 5 yrs. & QA x 2 yrs.
Used to work in-house, but on my own now. Love working at-home too! :)
Can these be turned off?
I agree, the cursor and snowflakes are really cute, but distracting to me. At the risk of being labeled a Grinch, is there any way to turn them off on one's personal computer? Thank you--
I turned him in ...

I just turned 40. nm

LOL I tried to take an hour nap, but it turned into
11 hours of napping. LOL At least I'm refreshed this morning. Time to type quickly so I can go play.
YES! nationals have turned
wife's kind of job......need a second income to live.
It is no longer a career
It is no longer a respectable job.
They have lowered it to _drop in_ make a few bucks_go to bed
But don't expect or receive RESPECT, A LIVING, OR ANYTHING ELSE
from a transcription company. They are there to make the profit
OFF OF YOU.
Bows sounds real darn good - when do we start - I'll make the
wagon to sell them from - I'm pretty handy with power tools now since
my husband left because I had to type 26 hours a day! Stupidly he thought
we should have a life.
I just turned 30 and have been doing transcription...
since I was 21. I love my job and wouldn't trade it for the world. I also have several friends whom are my age that do this work and though our work changes with the science of medicine, I think you are going to find your job changing in whatever field you are in because everything changes and evolves over time. I do understand where you are coming from though about people my age not being pushed towards this field. I can't tell you how many times when I meet new people and I tell them what I do, they have no clue what transcription is, LOL.
The only people that give this profession a bad name and a bad rap is the people who are unhappy. Sure, I have had my ups and downs in this position, but I have also had other jobs where I have had those same ups and downs in different fields. It is called moving on and finding peace within yourself. If you are unhappy, fix it. Only you can make your own happiness, nobody else can make it for you.
Are you sure the volume is not turned down (sm)
in the "audio" of the gearplayer or that mute is checked in the "audio"?
Just turned on puter
and find all kinds of slander about the x-3. So if you are confident that I have been "bad mouthing" the company give me your facts. If I recall correctly I went off on you and apologized for it. You are the one in the end that said you needed time to lick your wounds. I have not bad mouthed the company to anyone!!!! and to quote someone whom I thought was an excellent friend "venting to friends is okay, that is what friends are for."
I am actively seeking employment, will continue to do so, and keep my opinions of the company to myself. If you feel I have done otherwise share the facts you have, give me a chance to defend myself.......
It tears me apart on a daily basis that we have no friendship........if you truly feel you cannot forgive me that is fine, but please don't bash me on a public board about things that are not true.
I interviewed with them and turned them down
but can't remember all the details. I think they offered 10 cpl for IC and 11 cpl for lines over 12,000 per pay period. You have to "punch the clock" , which I just won't do. Sorry I don't remember other details.
I am glad everything has turned out okay....sm
for you. I am also glad you shared it and I was fortunate enough to read it. I hope I may not have to encounter what you have but some day if I do I will always remember reading this. God bless and I wish you the best....
Thanks for the responses. It turned out to be a bad box (the little one). nm

Just turned 29 in June..nm

mine turned out to be--sm
3025 for today. It started out poorly but ended up good, although it is 9 pm here and I have only been done for a half hour. that was 12 hours worth.
Guess what this s/l turned out to be.
What this probably oriental ESL said when I slowed him way down:
AN dis TIN AL DIZin
With a little research I discovered he meant:
end-stage renal disease
It's typical of him, but I do wonder why he doesn't invest in some speech therapy.
coders turned MT? Any of you out sm
there that went from coding to MT? OR, MTs who went into coding? Love coding, hate coding? Not much talk amongst coders anywhere. I just wonder what it is like and if it is worth considering.
I am tired of being turned down....
I am new to MT but I am not new to hard work and determination. Companies have turned me down just because I don't have experience. I know I don't have years and years of experience but that doesn't mean I am inapt. I have decided to seek out my own accounts because I am tired of waiting from someone else’s approval. It is scary but I am determined to make this work. I really need your input on what type of doctors I should start with. I was thinking family medicine or psychology since I have experience with medical coding in these areas.
Please offer your honest opinion on how I can make this work. If there is anyone else that has started out as a newbie and is transcribing on his or her own, please reply with advice also.
But if you are going to rude or cruel please don't reply.
Tables turned on me....
I had the strangest thing happen to me. I have been contacting some people who had tested for a position I was filling. When I interviewed this one applicant, as soon as she got on the phone she started interviewing ME. I mean she was shooting questions left and right and before I had a chance to really explain how the account worked she was like, "Well I'll let you know about the position in a day or two", like it was hers to decide and I hadn't even offered her the position. She was actually my first choice and I was going to give her the position, but after talking on the phone I have decided against it. I'm afraid she would be trying to run my business instead of me. I had just never had such an experience and thought I would just voice it here. Let me know what you all think.
Have you turned off autocorrect?
nm
I turned off the little box in Shorthand, SM
feeling it would be important to keep my eyes on the screen, initially with transcribing and now especially so with editing where I'm typically reading and scanning the text ahead of the dictation, dropping Shorthand-abbreviation corrections in as I pass by. I'm coming up on 40,000 entries and definitely don't have them memorized. I do have my various patterns for abbreviating memorized. J for -ation so that hospital + hl and hospitalization = hlj, hospitalized + hld. Adjective + noun = first 3 letters of adjective, first 2 of noun. That sort of thing.
I don't type fast. Since you do, it means you'll always be able to keep up with a speeded up dictation and when editing you can just relax back and rest your wrists as you scan much more than you can now.
And just think--I have many common and hard-to-spell doctor names entered in the form "drng" = Dr. Nguyen, which includes the link to make sure they don't get split at the end of the line. Wouldn't that be nice?
english turned OFF
I for sure am not going to sit and proofread my posts and sometimes fingers go where they go. If people feel the need to proofread others posts they REALLY need to get a life or a friend or something. I had another person do this to me on another board and I cannot tell you how aggravating it is. I have a 99.58% accuracy rating and make plenty of mistakes in my email posts. This is NOT WORK. This is play and the fact that you feel the need to criticize people just tells us all about YOU.
It turned out to be short, so
I typed it without my footpedal. My Gear Player box is no longer open to drag the windows media file into.
Now I'm having trouble formating Word. They want the margins changed to 2.54 cm (not inches), and I type it in like the instructions tell me, and save, but of course Word ignores me. Grr.

Thank goodness it was short. It was also not a medical report. Instead it sounded like a radio show with two speakers talking, but it was clear and easy.
you said it! The schools just turned sm
into a money making scheme all their own. It does take 10-15 years and then you find out you are barely experienced. Some of the "newbies" here if not most of them will not work the years it takes to find that out because they really don't want to be in this business anyway. It was just an easy work at home job to some (not all) of them.
When I think about it, I blame some of the large MT companies, especially MQ for some of this. They hired these people right out of school, they have worked several years but not gotten the experience they need. They really are not "experienced" but they think they are and that is sad.
I wish MT would ALL go back in house and these companies were just to pick up the slack in the hospitals and not take over their accounts totally. That way MTs could get their experience before they ever venture out into the MT working at home thing.
I started at 23.
Help! Windows turned sideways?
I tried a new 'keyboard shortcut' and miraculously not only did it not work, it turned my desktop on Windows sideways.
Any suggestions on how to fix it?
Thanks!
every one will see in the end and so many will be lost because they turned away from the truth.
He is actually quite easy to please. you only have to do one thing. Its the most simple thing in the world that could save you eternally.
