MRC, wow!

That's where I got my start too, back in 1994. Other than doing some freelance transcribing for about a year for a psychologist I knew I had no experience and no training. I answered an ad for MTs and the manager of the local MRC office agreed to let me test. Because of 12 years of Catholic education (Latin, little bit of Greek, learning to read phonetically and understanding how words are built) I did well enough on the test to be hired provisionally.
For 30 days at a really low hourly wage they allowed me to teach myself this profession, and I took to it pretty quickly. My nose was in books looking up practically every term. They QA'd every word I typed, gave support and helpful advice. For months I listened to every report twice all the way through, which made my production pay something like $4 an hour. Fifteen years later I'm still at it. (I earn a bit more now.)
MRC was bought by Transcriptions, Ltd., which then became MQ, was then bought by Philips. Each transition only made things worse. For the couple of years I was with MRC, though, it was heaven. I will always be grateful to Dale I., the manager who gave me my big break. Dale, if your're out there and read this, e-mail me.
