The only reason I'm not still in one is because I moved in with my boyfriend who had a bigger house. If I was by myself, I would buy another trailer. I was always perfectly happy in mine; actually, I loved it, and could afford it, without going into serious debt. I would buy a newer trailer right now if my boyfriend would agree, because I hate a 2-story, but haven't convinced him yet.

I found the people very warm and helpful, the food is to die for, and if you like beer (I do not, but this is what hubby tells me), it is the best in the world! The downside now is with the conversion to the euro things do seem much more expensive (was just back there to visit last Decemeber). Still, I would live there again in a heartbeat! :-)
Lived there for 20 years, moved
back up north 5 years ago, so glad I did. Would't even visit family down there after I moved. Now all family has moved back up with us. Wouldn't ever, ever go in July or August, the heat and humidity are so bad. 95 degree heat and 90% humidity. Its like trying to breath in a suana or steam bath. Storms every afternoon. The bugs are terrible also.
Bermuda - lived there 2 years
Lovely island. Their seasons are same as East Coast -- semi-tropical summers, rainy & cold winters. Island is long and thin. Great snorkeling. If you want nightlife and restaurants, stay in St. George or in Hamilton. (Princess Hotel is nice, too). Otherwise an expensive cab ride. No car rentals - scooters only. Drive on left side of road with roundabouts rather than traffic lights in most places. No 7-11s and stores generally close by 6 p.m. Take lots of money as things are expensive. Give my regards to the Swizzle Inn !!

my mother lived in England for years..
but she was born here. Her English does not sound British but a little "fancier" sounding than most Americans. I get this British hem/onc doctor once in a while who for some reason is just difficult even though he speaks clearly.

Trailer's and trailer parks
Saw on the Travel Channel the ones in Malibu...I HAVE a home appraised at 239,000 and only wish I could sell it, get rid of all the sniveling neighbors and move into a nice trailer & park, where I could actually have the time to enjoy me neighbors and live, rather than work  my butt off for this "brick house"
Keep your attitude, and enjoy your home. My bro lives in a fantastic "mobile home estate" and has just the best community. He had emergency surgery,quite unexpected, but you can rest assurred there were meals at his door, which was swept off and his yard and garden well tended. 
Obviously in whatever was said about trailer parks,
nobody was referring to you and you seem to have taken it too personally. No flames here. Just understand, trailer parks got their bad name long before you came along. Yes, there are some nice ones out there, but the majority that get into the spotlight get there because of bad things. So, don't take it personally unless it applies to you and hopefully now that you've had your rant you feel better.
Trailer "trash"
I also live in a mobile home but not in a park at the present time.We have our own five acres of land. We get this slander type of talk all the time. Half of my relatives live in nice double wides. Who cares?? At least we are not paying big bucks per month for a house payment just to keep up with the Joneses. When some of the people who live in fancy houses lose their jobs, their house will be the first thing to hit the auction block. We owned a huge house in a nice neighborhood but since being retired, who needs all that upkeep plus the high taxes???
I say live and let live. I personally like mobile homes, trailers, double wides,manufactured housing--whatever you want to call them.
Trailer parks
My neighborhood will allow it, but they have a lot of obstacles -- fortunately. I don't even thing trailer park developers or landlords care about the folks they sell to. Trailers DEPRECIATE in value, unlike standard housing. Banks won't even lend money to finance or mortgage them. You have to finance them through other means, usually with high interest rates. Not a smart investment.

Where the heck have yu been? I know may peple with great educations.. problem is the job market is pathetic. You sound like a person from SNOBSVILLE.. you ought to me up with my ex. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed about living a mobile park. and for your information lady, you bettr have good credit and a good recommendation or else the will not take you in some of the trailer parks. You are a snob and an arrogant woman. Where you from NEW YORK? Have you ever lived in a a mobile home park. Most low income could NOT afford it, after all when you have to pay 500 bucks a month for lot rent. you are so full of it....I live in a mobile home court and Love it. it's clean, with security, and there are no old mobile homes in this court. Get off your high horse...GEEZ.. THEY DO REQUIRE CREDIT CHECKS MS SMARTY PANTS.
Don't need to be cleaning no trailer.

We had to rent a trailer to put behind out pickup one time to go pick up some jet skis. It was only about a 90 mile drive, but it was a horror. We went through a lot of construction and the lanes were narrow. I wasn't driving, but if I had been, I would have crashed. DH was even amazed that he got them through without scraping the sides. Even if it costs a little extra, I think it would be well worth it to have it hauled for you. They will insure it. I know it has "special value", but I'm sure it will be fine. Good luck. A trailer would be an improvement over my house.
I would love to be able to afford a nice trailer. At least most of them have two bathrooms. Right now they are out of my league. I live in an older house on a farm (170 acres that we have paid for). I am not sure I would enjoy living in a "park", but more because of the lack of privacy than for pride. Now there are really nice upscale communities of manufactured homes. Of course there are still a lot of snobs around who look down at their noses at anyone who does not live up to perceived standards. My brother works for a dealership. I have visited and looked at those homes. Some of them are out of this world. Some are made up to the quality of a regular house and cost accordingly. With some of the shoddy construction I have seen in new homes lately, no one really can honestly say that these houses are any better than a "trailer".
Trailer park dwelling
Fine if you want to live in a trailer park, but you should have to pay property taxes. If you want to be treated like everyone else, then pay taxes like everyone else. We had this issue in our community, and we did fight against having a trailer park, because that means the surrounding community has to subsidize the schooling, police, fire, garbage pickup, and all the other services for a trailer park or manufactured home community. I found all this out during months leading up to stopping a trailer park developer. I do believe trailer park dwellers should be treated like everyone else, which means they should have to pay property taxes like everyone else. Currently, in Michigan, they don't. That's not only wrong, it is preferential treatment for manufactured home communities. I'm sure you're as respectable as you say, so start paying your own way instead of making a community subsidize you!

You know that. If you choose to live in a trailer park that is certainly your right but sorry the stigma is there and I nor the OP created it. There was a running joke about Paula Jones (Clinton's "friend") being trailer park trash. Why? I don't know as I do not live in trailer park nor do I want to because I don't want the stigma. I was looking at property in North Carolina and there was no zoning regulation so the property was across the street from a trailer park which brought property values down. I am not making this up nor do I create it. It is what it is. Oh, BTW, there is a new show coming on MTV, a parody I think of the home improvement shows, where a gay biker type grit, tries to rehab trailer homes. Hilarious. Again, I didn't make it up nor stigmatize trailer parks. Someone took a concept of their idea of people and their trailer homes and ran with it. There is also the same idea in Blue Collar TV with Jeff Foxworthy on Comedy Channel.
Bottom line, there is a stigma to living in a trailer park and you have to learn to live with that. I personally can't live with the stigma and do not entertain the thought of moving to a trailer park. I think it would be hard on my kids to have that trailer park stigma on them as they enter school.

trailer parks and low level housing is where criminals generally go.
not too many criminals have good jobs to afford a nice house. i know of child molester filled neighborhood because there are no restrictions, no HOA and the houses are low income homes. no this doesn't only happen in trailer parks but crime statistically happens more often in worse neighborhoods and more ex-criminals statistically live in lower level neighborhoods.

Let me FIRST say that I do not usually rant, I am not a ranter, if something bugs me I take a deep breath, look at the offending item in the grand scheme of my life and realize that most of the time it isn't that big a deal. However, these condescending trailer park references that I run into are a bunch of crap!
How can you make a derogetory referrence regarding people who live in trailers? If it had something to do with race or sex you have been flamed by the whole board. I am sick and tired of generalizations directed basically towards me! I live in a trailer in a trailer park and I MOST CERTAINLY am not a skank. I have heard it all, white trash, trailer trash, skank, etc. when people talk about parks. My town even named it a "Manufactured House Community" and hid it where you can't see it! I am here because I can afford it here. The average price for a house in my town in Maine is $250,000 ++. While we do just fine, I cannot afford that on my MT salary (been MT for 6 years) even though my husband works his butt off at 3 jobs. Oh sure, we could probably get a loan for a $300,000 house but I refuse to get in over my head in debt just to convince people like YOU I am in your league! I also LIKE it here. My neighbors are the best I have had. All of our homes (trailers) are well maintained, the lawns are spotless, and there is not a single car up on blocks that I can see anywhere!! Don't even bother to tell me that is not the norm for parks because there are 300+ trailers in this park and they are all just as well taken care of!
Another thing that irritates me is the word "skank". I have never understood why women have to tear each other down using trashy descriptions like that. Of course I am sure there are those out there who DESERVE the title but most of the time women seem to judge based on the look of the offending party.
You may think your comment was tiny and I am blowing it out of proportion, but I am not! It is comments like that that makes people like my neighbors ashamed to even tell people where they live.
I have said my piece and I await the flaming. When you drive through my park (yah right) and see me standing on the nice, green lawn in front of my pretty trailer with my 7-year-old in the yard, my toddler on my hip, looking very pregnant in my cutoffs and tank tops, you can THINK "skank" all you want. I KNOW that I am a strong, educated, well-employed woman with a nice little family who refuses to put all our happiness and our hard-earned savings on the line to prove that I am EQUAL to people like you!

Okay home is where the heart is but if you live in trailer park next door to red neck grits
with a mullet and bleached blond hair who drink beer all day and let their kids run wild, your little trailer park heart filled home becomes a bit of a headache because of the neighbors who may not have the same ideals or morals/ethics you do and they are SO CLOSE you can't shut them out of your world. Cheap housing brings in cheap people and in trailer parks you pretty much get what you get neighbor-wise. So my heart may be in my little trailer but my neighbors are part of my homelife.

no excuse for not researching with google or even yahoo. my neighborhood is zoned to not allow trailer parks (ever wonder why???) thus my property if more valuable than another community that is not zoned against trailer parks. Now did you ever consider why communities would even think of having a zoning commission that would ban trailer parks. Community standards might come in to play and they don't want property values diminished. GOOGLE friend. The truth will set you free.

I have lived in NC since I was 12, so about
19 years. My mother used to work in a hotel, and my step-father worked as a furniture peddler. He stayed in the hotel where she was working and it was love at first sight! They have been married for 18 years now and are very happy. I also got a sister out of the deal after having been an only child for 13 years...lol.
I love Maine in the summertime, and obviously because my family is there, but I don't think I would move back. I am so used to not having to deal with all the snow. I think that is probably the major difference. Here we have 4 seasons. There, winter lasts for a long, long time. I remember being little and having huge amounts of snow on my birthday....in APRIL!
The food is also different in a lot of ways. They drink sweet tea up there, but it didn't catch on for quite some time, and it still isn't like it is here in the south. I don't drink tea though, guess that's the Yankee coming out in me...lol.
And of course there is the accent thing. It's funny, but even after living here for so long, when I go up there to visit, I pick up my northern accent all over again, although normally I talk with a southern drawl.
I do miss 'home', but I don't really think I could go back permanently. I can't deal with the cold anymore...LOL.

had difficult time getting freelance work. I thought it was pretty funny that the hospitals in Tampa and St. Pete would go to an outside service for their overflow and pay $0.14-0.18/line, however, would not utilize me as a prn transcriptionist. Moffitt Cancer Center wanted me to drive all the way from south tampa one way for $12/hour on a prn basis. But if I wanted to be full time, I would start at $9/hour. However, Moffitt had no problem bringing in transcriptionists from Kforce and paying the COMPANY hourly rate of $33/hour (per transcriptionist), hotels, rental cars, per diem, and overtime for all six transcriptionists, and travel back and forth to their home state every 10 days. Had to laugh!
Kindred Hospital is screaming for transcriptionists, yet, they would not let me work for them, inhouse, on an as needed basis until the positions were filled. They had a two month backlog, and I lived 20 minutes away and the woman I spoke to said no. I told her I was moving in a month and could produce 1800 lines/day, knew their transcription system backwards and forwards, and wanted to be paid $0.10/line. Answer was still no. They are outsourcing it at a higher rate.
Yes, she lived it. I'm curious though,
had her and her siblings at an early age and parenthetically added something about "hormones and no sex education". But now when people talk about programs that inclue "sex education" a lot of neocons freak out and say abstinence is the only way to go and cut funding for education, so what do you do about that? How realistic is abstinence? This is not an ideal world, after all. How do we break the cycle of babies having babies and the cycle continuing for generations?

I posted to you about where to look. We also lived in Dallas and they are overpriced too. You don't pay a state income tax in Florida, but there are a lot of hidden sales taxes and such. The problem with living on the water is you can't get insurance and if you find it, it's extremely high. We left Florida and went to Biloxi, Mississippi and it was about half the cost of Florida and we were 1 block from the beach. We had planned to go back but it will take a few years to be rebuilt. In the meantime, heading to TN as they do not have a state income tax, a vehicle tax, and the property taxes are much much less.

This isn't a problem exclusive to one company. And the problems techies have aren't all their fault or the company's fault. Can you imagine being the techie that tries to train the MT that asks if the CD tray is the cup holder? (yeah, this stuff is real). It takes a tremendous amount of self discipline not to hang up on a clue-less MT and even if the MT is very computer savvy, that MT's equipment might have unique challenges that take more time than expected. Image a techie's surprise when after trying to identify a problem, the MT lets out a final piece of information not given before and the techie has to start over from scratch.
Techies are a breed unto themselves and putting personal blame on the techies really is unfair. I still defend them even if I think they are weird (that's okay, they think I'm weird too).

with no doors and the bedroom was a loft with the parrot downstairs.
When my partner and I became amorous, the bird went nuts and started screaming. Didn't help to shove pillows in each other's faces either!
Of course he repeated what he heard during the day when I had visitors...humuliations galore!
You haven't lived until you have
been woken up at 1:48, 2:37, 3:12 and 5:07 a.m. to windows shaking from Mexican rap music blaring from almost 2 blocks away and then getting yelled at by the 911 dispatcher over and over again saying that 911 is not for noise complaints. Well if they would have taken care of the problem the first time, I would have stopped calling. One 911 dispatcher was really sweet though because she could hear the music when I stood outside talking on my cell phone. Usually the first time the police go out there, they stop the music but they must have new people staying with them as they kept playing the same Tequila song over and over (only word I understood was Tequila). Then when the police went over there these idiots pretended not to speak English, speak Spanish when the officer tries to speak to them in Spanish or read the complaint printed up in Spanish. Tomorrow I'm searching for the owner of the house online and will start complaining to them as will the rest of my neighbors. You also haven't lived until you have seen some of your neighbors out in their pjs at 3 a.m. trying to do a Mexican hat dance. I'm thinking maybe they too were consuming mas tequila.

Not Mexican - rap music as loud as it can be played coming from somewhere behind my house on almost a nightly basis around 2 a.m. The thing that makes me the most annoyed is that it is literally the same song OVER and OVER and OVER for two hours or more! I just want to scream, "At least get a new song!" Ugggghhhh!

know a good friend of mine from Michigan, who is an MT, who moved there. She doesn't live in Denver but Pueblo and the last I heard from her, her and her family really love it there!
