Like Tinks said, she needed to be home with her child

who was sick. People have different reasons for doing everything in life. It seems to me that she does pretty well for herself. To say that we are just trying to be housewives though and are not professionals is just ridiculous.

I also sure do not like being told that I cannot make it in a job outside of the home when in fact I have and will again. We are not trying to be super moms, but just trying to work and be happy like the rest of the world.

And I find this all very amusing coming from a person who keeps stating that she has a housekeeper and a gourmet chef for a husband.

Some of the ladies here are single moms trying to make it and have a career. Somebody needs to get off their high horse.

Oh I am SO glad that you were never a child that needed care!
Too bad all children cannot be like yourself.

Too bad that everyone cannot be a full grown, bitter adult from birth.

Think how much easier life would be! Gosh. Hahahaha

If it were my child, I wouldn't come home either
but just because they arrested those three guys, doesn't mean they're guilty. They have no clues, no facts, no body.

Someday someone may stumble on her bones, but mom is going to go through hell till then. Dead is easier than missing.

It is sad but true that if she had not been a pretty, young blonde from America, she would have been forgotten right about day three.
Your time at home with your child is so
Your child is better with you..being near the sounds, the smells, the love of mom. I recognize that some moms have to put their children in daycare, but to rationalize it that they are "better off" there because if you stay at home with them and work, they aren't getting enough attention just isn't right. You find a way to give them the love and attention they need. Is daycare going to sit there and give your child one-on-one attention all day? Are you prepared to have your child be sick all the time? My daughter has barely had a cold in her first five years of life. It's just a cop out to think that daycare is actually better.
I had a child living at home when....sm

When I first opened up the small MTSO in '97, I still had a child at home.  Once she left, I turned her room into the room for the national I work for and is a formal office but also serves as a guest bedroom.  The private MDs I do in my master bedroom (it's huge!!!!! not bragging but it's really a huge room) and is just the way I had it set up when my daughter was still living at home right thru 2000, her bedroom was the 2nd bedroom and was NOT an office until she left, nor did I work for this national until she left home (she lives around the corner from me, like 2 miles *L*).  It would be a huge undertaking for me to put them both into one room now.  And if I do not stay with the national, down the road, well there will be absolutely no problem there.  Anyone else I take on, I would put in the master bedroom to do their work today.

hope that all made sense......*lol*

If I lost a child, I wouldn't go home either.
I'd search and search until I found out what happened.  Aruba's law enforcement obviously isn't getting the job done.  And the chaperones are in NO WAY responsible for an 18-year-old ADULT high school graduate.  The girl was responsible for her own actions, no matter how irresponsible she was.  Just because she got drunk doesn't give anyone the right to harm her either.
If he were my child I'd home school in a nannosecond and here's why...sm

I don't believe in putting kids on antidepressants if there's a problem that can be addressed without medication.   With his medical problems that you mentioned he's probably having some kids at school harrass him.... and when he gets older he'll be able to select situations to get into that will limit this type of social trauma.

With home schooling growing in popularity you can easily plug him in with others who are around his age and home schooling. Here in Georgia they've even gotten some home schooling football teams and bands up because so many kids are home schooled now to help them feel more like the "regular" kids.

I have a child now that unless the public middle school is significantly cleaned up by the time she gets that age that I'll be home schooling her as there's no way in heck I'm sending her to that pit.   A lot of parents in my area home school their middle school kids because the middle school here is horrendous between the crappy teachers who don't give a toot, the bullying and overall poor attitude by a lot of people at that school.  Fortunately the demographics in our area are changing so hopefully as more expensive homes are built our county will put more emphasis on cleaning up this particularly bad school.  We'll see.

We're at about $2,200 with only 1 child left at home.
My DIL gets about only $2,000 in SS benefits for herself and 3 children.  We helped her set her basic living expenses (car, heating, electric and water) at just about $1,000 a month but by the time you add in groceries, gas, car insurance, cable and telephone she really feels the pinch.
needed a job from home

After I had my second child I needed a job but wanted to work from home.  I had tried child care in my home and hated it.  I knew some people in my community who did MT and asked arround.  I found someone who had a small business and I called her.  I didn't have any trainining.  When I talked to her she said that she had hoped to find someone with training and I understood and kept looking.  Well, a couple of weeks later she called back to see if I was still interested.  I am not sure why she changed her mind but I am sure glad she did.

I really love the work, though the Docs bug me sometimes, like tonight which is why I am here and not typing like I should be

Go to NBC10.com - Our local news has "Wednesday's Child" which is a child for adoption.
Every Wednesday they introduce a child who needs a home and a family. There should be some information there as these kids are up for adoption.

Hope that helps!
WRONG! A child that has a fear of discipline = a well behaved child.
I have a beautiful, intelligent 11 year old daughter that hasn't had a spanking in 6 or 7 years and probably only 3 her entire life. She is very well behaved and I get compliments on her behavior constantly. When she does get out of line all I have to say is, "Shall I call your father?" Call it what you want, it works. She respects and obeys me and her father. Why??? For fear of the facing the consequences of misbehaving. Having a total lack of fear or respect for authority is exactly what's wrong with Generation X/kids today. I turned out just fine as did my siblings. Why?? Because my parents took "time out" to bust our a$$es whenever we got out of line.

Is that clear enough for you???
Tinks - what goes around comes around
Through at me --  should this be "threw at me"  - I know that we all make mistakes but when you come on defending and bragging about what you did  you should double check spelling.  I had one IC/friend that did that to me when she went to an  overflow account and became their main "back-up"  instead of my company and once she did that yes I did take back her primary  account so she lost money.   What goes around comes around and out here in Oregon it is a very small community of small MTSO's and when you do that your name gets out there and no one will hire you.  She came begging for work especially when I landed this new account but could not help her out.  It may have worked out for you this time but watch as someone could do  it to you.  I bet you have non competitive clause in your contract as you don't want someone doing to you what you did to someone else.  Kind of like the cheating spouse.  Forgive me if I do it but don't you dare do it to me.   Just me thoughts.
Tinks, you are right on! but I am
finally getting off the merry-go-round as I am sick!  Sick of MT all together, literally am getting an ulcer, and figure it's time to call quits after 11 years.  Can't stand it anymore.  IMHO, hospitals, clinics, docs need to take MT back in-house where it belongs.  These MT companies are a scam and scam and scam and scam.  Oh, and did I say scam?  Well, for me, I'm outta here next week, and dreading every minute of it!!  7 1/2 more days of this BS.  As for the BOS, what a laugh, another scam!
Well said Tinks!!!

= great Transcriptionist (experience), not how many tests you can ACE!!!  So many specialities, so little time..................

You the woman!!!!

Hey Tinks......
I don't know what Anon2's problem is, but you are NOTHING like Kikki. She was nuts! You were simply discussing a topic that was brought up on the board. And with this last post you were just resolving a point in the discussion....that's all. If Anon2 doesn't like you and your posts then Anon2 needs to just skip your posts. Simple as that. Don't sweat it. This board is full of craziness at times. LOL

Tinks - Very well said! (nm)
x
Tinks, sorry but 1 cpl can add up. That'd be about
:)
Thank you, Tinks, for summing it up
I have to fight so hard to overcome all the difficulties that has befallen this child, give up so much for her, love her so unconditionally...and it was necessary that I take her ... or lose her to a foster home or adoption and never see her again.

Yes, it made me angry at all the players involved that have walked away from this child, the ones who said they loved her but left her life once someone else sheltered her so they don't have to and can go their own ways, never thinking of the effect it has had on her or on me, never offering to help when she is ill or needs reassurance that she is loved...the vain ones, the selfish ones. I took her away from the felons, the drug dealers, the prostitutes and have to fight to change her perception of the world to one that is in her best interest. It can cause terrific stress...it is a daily struggle.

And it was the indulgence of vanity that sent me over the edge for the day. To everyone who critized me and said ugly things about how you perceive I feel about the child: Walk in my shoes and those of 6 million Americans who do what I do...give up my life, my financial security, my stability, change jobs because of uncaring employers, for the sake of saving a child, and if for one day of the year, something (whether it be vanity or lack of sunshine for the day) doesn't get under your skin, then you may be more perfect than I. Until you walk in my shoes, don't critize which ones I wear. As I said before, vanity didn't bother me yesterday and it won't bother me tomorrow. It only bothered me today because when you peel everything away, I resented transcribing reports on vanity surgeries when I could have been attending to this child or doing reports that for today I felt were more important, having a few members of family around me in a relaxed environment to strengthen me for the next 6 months...

I took one day out of the year to vent and get it out of my system. Not too bad for what she and I have been through! As someone else said there is always tomorrow...today is gone!
I agree 100% Tinks. No more $$ from me.

If you don't like the posts Tinks
makes, why do you even read them?  You can skip and go on to something else.  Why don't you go on the comedy board and lighten up?
i agree with tinks and
if they say the client is complaining, chances are that it is NOT anyone of importance.  it is quite possibly a clerk who wants to feel important.  i have been through this with a hyphen (yes, a hypen).  such a waste of everyone's time.
Tinks - you are reading
was gonna post that there HAD to be a catch somehow, the post is just written like that....
Agree with Tinks.
nm
I totally agree with you Tinks.

I don't think you are being rude, just telling it like it is.  I am sorry for the poster that she did not pass, but I have not noticed any increase in my pay whether CMT or not.  Yes, some companies might pay a little more, but it is just not worth it.  I have seen terrible work coming from some CMTs and better quality from those not certified, it just depends on the MT.  Just passing the test and being a CMT does not necessarily make a better transcriptionist.

For the poster that failed the test, I sincerely feel bad for you and hope if your dream is to be a CMT, that you some day will pass it and get what you want.

I personally don't feel it is worth it and we are not recognized or appreciated.  I was just offered an IC job doing hospital work at 7 CPL.  This is the same rate that was 20 years ago.

Oh, please. Tinks hides behind her virtual
water coolers and lobs virtual spit balls while hiding. A little different than a man in a suit having the hutzpah to say something. Not a good analogy. You admire her? Ha, must be lots of room to hide behind her and that water cooler. Bahahahahaha....yup, all offices need you guys, or life at work might just be pleasant!
You pretty much said it Tinks. I agree with you !!!..nm
x
Didn't read, did you, Tinks?
The company repaid my testing fee (I'm a member, it cost me $195).

Plus I get about $6000 a year more by the CMT production bonus.

So, get off your garbage can. It IS profitable.

If you don't care for the AAMT, that's okay. However, they are the standard and their standard has given me $6000 a year more in salary just for proving I can pass their test.

Okay, Oscar, fire away!
You go, Tinks! You'll have to let us know so we can find it on the internet and see it.

I feel exactly the same as y'all.  I think we could start by sending letters not  e-mails to our respective state legislators.  And it would certainly not be a bad idea to send a letter to the presidential candidates.  I bet Hillary would do something about it.  Anyways I hope she would.  My SIL is Indian.  He was down here last weekend and told me he received an e-mail encouraging him to get into MT for only $450!  he's a bus driver.  Scam, scam, scam.  He also told me that Indians are all crooks, and those are his words.  he told me many stories of people stealing, bribes being expected, etc., even from the law and customs officials and the post office, on and on.  So there ya go.  Some may think our info is safe over there, I think not.

I have thought about contating our local TV/newspaper for the same reason -- to expose the dirty little secret at the big hospital here in town.

Yeah really Tinks... must be some good stuff!

I agree with Tinks....no such thing as a 65 character GROSS line....unless
you just so happen to type 65 characters during on that particular line. LOL

A gross line can be a full typed line or it can be one word on a line to complete a sentence that began on the prevous line. But it gets counted as an entire line.

My kids have suffered greatly from me working at home with them home. SM
I have been working at home as an MT since my two kids were born. They are now 4 and 5. In the first few years, I had no help whatsoever. Their father was a bum who didnt work or take care of them while I worked. Your children get neglected while you work basically. And babies and young children desperately need your attention while they are home with you.

My kids have so many behavioral problems right now because of their neglect. I would try to set them up with things to occupy themselves, like coloring or a movie, etc.

I finally put them in day care and things have improved, but there are still a lot of issues because of the damage that was done. They still try to seek attention by doing bad things and they dont listen to me because they are so used to me letting them get away with a lot of stuff because I was too busy typing to discipline them in their early years.

If I could do it all over again, I would definitely have put them into day care from the very beginning.

My advice would be to seek PT care for your baby. Maybe you can do some work around her schedule a little when she is home, like when she takes a nap, and then bang out a bunch of work while she is in day care.

I enjoy being alone at home, but I've got one home sick from school already.

One on one with a kid is nice, too.

This summer has been absolutely crazy.  I haven't had a moment to myself for three months because all of my kids were home traipsing their friends through the house and yard.  My husband switched his work schedule, too, so he's around more than usual.  However, I like not having to do two loads of dishes and four loads of laundry a day.  There are no toys or clutter dragged out everywhere.  I can clean the house first thing in the morning, and it stays clean until everyone gets home at night.

I even got to relax with a cup of coffee and watch TV for half an hour this morning, something I liked for a change instead of cartoons or kids' movies.  I signed up for an online class that I've been wanting to take.  I can exercise without being interrupted.  Yesterday, I went to the mall and spent all my saved up gift cards.  I got some clothes, books, bath stuff, and a new coffee mug.  My work gets done a lot faster, too.  Call me nuts, but I've never had the luxury of being alone in the house for 14 years.  It's kinda nice.  I love my family with all my heart, but I love having a few hours to myself each week, too.

Except now the cat and dogs have been acting weird since the kids went back to school.  They must think that I need someone or something to clean up after and correct behavior on.  They're getting into everything and racing around the house behind me.

my take is that she worked inhouse, not at home, and now wants to find out how to work at home. nm

Forget "per line." Your take-home pay should be taking home SM
roughly what it was before. If it is not, is it because your current pay rate for editing (which in many companies keeps changing as the VR system is developed) is too low or is it because your talents and skills are more for speed typing than speed editing?

If the first, discuss it with higherups, and go get a new job if you don't get the response you need. My last MTSO was secretly refiguring how production was counted to pay us less. I can accept hard reality, it was the secrecy that burned. Sometimes, though, it's just that the learning curves of individual editors and that of the system aren't in sync, and you end up temporarily making less.

If the second, though, recognize it as soon as possible and change to straight transcription work, in your company or a new one, for as long as you can find it.

As for why we aren't paid more for a higher skill, that's just the way the labor supply ball bounces. Best wishes.
Are you the one with the ill child ???
If so, please realize that the stress of an ill child can be devastating to a marriage. Unfortunately many men deal with this kind of thing by drinking.  My best friend in the world went through 4 yrs of fighting leukemia with her little boy who became ill at 12 months.  Her husband turned into a total and complete jerk, drinking, and eventually becoming abusive to her.  A major medical illness can pull people apart.  On the other hand, it sometimes draws people together, but less often.  I had our third child extremely premature and she was critically ill for 2 months and then spent another 2 months in the NICU, 4 months total.  It was a big stress, but fortunately we weathered it okay.  Some people are not so lucky.  My first thought is that all this nonsense with your father, and his mother, and wills and money, and all the rest is just something to fixate on.  It may very well NOT be the source of the current friction in your home and your marriage.  Maybe some counseling if you can get him to go, would be in order.  My best to you and your family.
It's no wonder--with a child like you...
your mother probably ripped her own uterus out, and that will be the one and only post to this person.  It was just too easy!!
Why would you do that to your child?

New car for my child
My 17-year-old did get a new car for his birthday for several reasons: He has never given us a bad time about anything, he has a 4.2 GPA, and did a 2,210 on his SAT (the new SAT),is headed to the college he had his eye on for several years now (asked for and got early acceptance letter) and he has been working part-time since he was 14 years old.

We decided to get him a new car because he will need it for school (it's a few states away and we want him to have something dependable) and because he has really gone the distance and worked very hard to get to this point.

I'm really not bragging here, these are just our reasons. He didn't get a fancy racing car, just something that is nice and dependable and made us comfortable.

Anyone whose child has gotten the flu?
Symptoms of coughing, fever, chills and sweats, no appetite, hurts all over, sleepy.  Grandson has been this way for 5 days, 2 visits to the doc, lost 2 lbs in 5 days (which for a little guy is a lot).  X-rays show no pneumonia.  What can we do?  Any ideas gratefully appreciated.
Think about the child
and the fact that it is not wanted. Funny I did not hear one mention about adoption in this post. Sometimes abortion is the best choice (IMO).
Let's do think about the child
Adoption has been mentioned in some of the posts, but you may have missed it. A person who kills somebody else may be thinking of many things, but the actual well-being of the person he or she is killing is certainly not one of them. Everyone is "not wanted" by somebody else at some point in their lives.
I think she means she has wireless TO her home, not IN her home..nm

hospital at-home -vs- national at home

I have an interview today with a hospital...work in-house for 3 months, then go home, paid on production. I don't know as of yet what they pay production, so my question is to anyone who works for a hospital at home AND has also worked for a national at home...

Which would be the best to choose? The hospital offers great benefits, but the national I work for now also has benefits, not as good as the hospital, though.  Any input would be most appreciated!

The best defense for a child...
As heart tugging as they are, accurate transcription is sooooo important for any person, there is a lot at stake and your best effort at triple checking what you have typed is our little helping hand at helping those seeking help. Flag ANYTHING you doubt, if you get lost in the "he said, she said," someone else will too and calling attention to those items WILL HELP to ensure the reports are easily read and understood. Keep up the good work, the job we do IS IMPORTANT! Any complaint or abuse is paperwork, paperwork, paperwork, just be sure those you do are the cream to help those who in need.
different child, different methods
I am the mother of two 20-year-olds, 1 boy and 1 girl. I can tell you from first hand experience the type of discipline depends on the child. My daughter, she might have had 2 spankings in her whole life. She could be talked to and punished in other ways that worked. My son, on the other hand, about every 6 months he would be due for a spanking and then he was fine again. I have learned from experience, never say that you will never do something or that you will not do something. If one thing does not work, believe you will go to spanking if it means saving your child.
Any child is more adult than you are.
I grow weary of your tiresome chatter.....
does anyone have a child that models? sm
or in commercials, print ads, etc? My 6 YOS is just adorable (of course!) and he has a very bright, outgoing personality. I am told all the time that he should be in "pictures", but don't know how to go about getting started. I don't have money to invest in all the pictures and things.  I know this is probably a long shot, but any info would be greatly appreciated.
Don't think I'd put my child in that business (sm)

It's something they can pursue when they are old enough.

Also, don't spend a lot on pictures, if you have to pay for just reprinting of pictures and they pay for the photographer that is probably reasonable.

CHILD SUPPORT??

Can ANYONE give me some legitimate service who goes after "deadbeat dads"????  I'm at the end of my emotional rope, and my state (Oklahoma) has not helped much in nailing down this butthead ('cuse my French)....I've talked to a few "services" which IF they get anything from him, they will probably take 60-70% of it!!!    Has anyone had any luck anywhere??  Why do these guys (and I'm sure there are gals out there too!) get away with not supporting their kids???

Sorry to vent  ...I type for a living (like you) and beating this keyboard sometimes helps me feel better!  Thanks for listening (reading ??)....

child support
Believe me, deadbeat moms are very prevalent, moreso than people think.  I know from personal experience that these moms rather spend their money on themselves than send even the tiny amount they are required by law to send to their child, all the time professing how much they love their children.
Child Support

We have a newer prosecuter in one of our local county's who started a new program to go after deadbeat parents.  3 times a year, she post the pictures of the worst offenders on the front pages of the newpapers, along with how much they owe...usually has a pretty good rate of call in's to report seeing them.  She's also working extremely hard to get the state to NOT renew drivers lisc. on any of those who are over 2,000 in arrears.

My sister finally got the attention of our prosecuter when her ex got close to 30 grand, the folks at CS just did not seem to have a working phone or at least one they answered, so they went after him, showed up in court, the magistrate took all of 10 minutes to look over the files...asked the idiot and the prosecuter if he had a working wage deduction in place (which he did on paper), and then said...Well he has the wage order in place, so case over

Now how the heck do you think he got to the 30 grand mark if the wage order was working........duh  Good luck, been there before and glad mine has paid on time.

Child with GERD

Hi there!

My son started projectile vomiting when he was just 2 months old.  It took us 10 months to find a doctor that would diagnosis him with anything.  As of now he is almost 7 and he takes 20 mg of Priosec daily, 5 mg of singular, and OTC Pepcid AC when he has a flare-up.   Which is almost weekly.  We had him on 40 mg for a long time, but the doc is wanting to try to get that down!

After such a long time of all this gasping for air, the same as you described, we took Josh to an allergiest and he has been diagnosed with asthma also.  This is VERY common in children with GERD.  I would MOST definiately check that out!!!

Good Luck and let us know how you are doing!
