In my experience, smart people pretend not to notice. Or if you need clarification, do it very tactfully.

I'd guess 90% of the supervisors I've had have been less than impressive in the written English department, so apparently it's hard to hire somebody with that as a part of their skill set. Strange to us when it's critical in our job, but hey, I can't do math, so I try not to hold English deficiencies against managers.
