you worded it better than me. But the bottom line is the schools and the promises and the desperation of the MTs graduating.
I am sure that you, like myself, have warned plenty of MTs about these schools and the expectations to no avail.
Wasn't it bad enough medicine when ER docs would proclaim a diagnosis before exam, only to have to backpedal after taking a look?? I guess if they are going to do things in that order, doing physical exams is going to result in their looking stuupid, so their solution is not to do that part.
Big grrrr.
Some MTs insist that they are good ...
(or even excellent) when in fact they are not. I know of one in particular who insists she is a very good MT and she does not even known which to use -- "there" or "their" or "their." Not to mention she put "tetanus" in an ENT exam when it was supposed to be "tinnitus."
Also why you should insist on having a contract.
Execute and sign a contract that spells out all of the particulars. This will save a lot of grief in the future. If the company doesn't want to use a contract, move on. If a company cuts corners there, where else might they be cutting corners?
As stated above, it's up to the MT to look out for their own best interest, not the employer.
BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- Bausch & Lomb Inc. executives are at a loss to explain why some users of its ReNu contact-lens solution have reportedly developed serious eye infections, saying Wednesday that all tests run so far have shown the product is safe and effective.
46.96, +1.35, +3.0%) resumed their move lower, dropping 7% to close at $45.61.
In a conference call held with analysts, Bausch & Lomb's management defended ReNu with MoistureLoc, a popular eye-care product used to clean, disinfect and store contact lenses.
"Every additional test indicates the formulation is as safe and effective as anything else on the market," said Ronald Zarrella, chief executive of the Rochester, N.Y.-based company.
Bausch & Lomb rattled both investors and consumers late Monday, when it announced it was suspending U.S. shipments of ReNu with MoistureLoc due to reports that some users had developed a rare but serious eye infection called fungal keratitis.
The Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration are investigating 109 reports of fungal keratitis around the nation, but they've yet to conclude that the ReNu product is a cause. It was also unclear how many of the reported cases actually involved ReNu, according to the agencies.
While allowing that ReNu could be eventually be linked to the infections, Zarrella also emphasized that all testing to date has shown ReNu with MoistureLoc was safe and effective in combating microbes that can trigger fungal keratitis.
Bausch & Lomb also has been able to test bottles of ReNu solution retrieved from infected users, but found nothing out of the ordinary, he said.
"As far as theories, there's a lot of them, and we've run a lot of them to ground and come up with nothing," said Zarrella.
Fungal keratitis is a painful inflammation of the cornea that can, in some cases, lead to blindness. The infection, caused by a fungus found in the environment, can appear as a result of eye injury, improper use of contact lenses or contaminated contact-lens products.
Zarrella said that FDA officials were currently inspecting the company's Greenville, S.C., plant, where it produces all ReNu with MoistureLoc products for the U.S. market.
Zarrella also said that the company had no insight into how long the FDA and CDC investigations will take and whether it will eventually have to recall all of ReNu with MoistureLoc products from the U.S. market. At this point, Bausch intends only to stop shipping new product to retailers, not to reclaim bottles already on store shelves.
However, retail heavyweights Wal-Mart Stores (WMT :
43.27, +0.26, +0.6%) said earlier Wednesday that they were removing the product from their shelves, pending the outcome of the regulatory investigation.
According to the company, ReNu with MoistureLoc generated U.S. sales of about $45 million in 2005.
Analysts on the call voiced concern that the product alert could end up eroding sales of Bausch & Lomb's other eye-care products, which enjoy great popularity with consumers.
Zarrella responded that Bausch & Lomb intends to immediately embark on a new marketing campaign to promote the integrity of its products, adding: "We're going to convince consumers that our products are safe and effective."
The executive also announced that it was "unlikely" that the company will file its 2005 year-end financial report, or 10-K, with the Securities and Exchange Commission by April 30. Zarrella repeatedly declined to comment during the call as to why the company wouldn't meet that deadline.
True that works should insist on fair SM
compensation. However, strikes only work when the strikers CANNOT BE REPLACED. That's definitely not us, not now. To put it mildly! With our entire healthcare industry in economic crisis, it would be only too likely to push the industry to get rid of our jobs altogether. Many are arguing right now for shifting the money spent on verbal reports to other areas of patient care.
Just BTW, our work would be eliminated practically overnight if the federal government were to refuse to pay Medicare compensation dollars for it. Something that could be done.
you've forgotten your own words! Your post above is 100% different "flavor" to it, now all positive and cheery! Your first post was 100% doom and gloom every which way, including "raining on your parade", and "if you want to go forward"...God, sounds like she's talking about jumping into oncoming traffic! Here is your quote:
My first boss (the one who hired me as a new grad) gave me some words of wisdom that I haven't forgotten. She said that transcribing at home with small children NEVER works under any circumstance. Either the work will suffer or the parenting will suffer.
****
How can the word "NEVER" in caps be interpreted in any positive way? You took about 8 paragraphs to cover every aspect and completely dash this poor woman's dream. I'm not blind, I'm not talking about day care at all, I'm talking about the total negativity of your original post! You know exactly what I'm talking about, cause you added some sugar to your second version! And that's much nicer than the first!
Oh I've read that site and continue to read it...sm
I agree...much motivation there. I have tried to quit numerous times in the past and did successfully quit when I was pregnant for the first time many years ago but I have never managed to summon up the strength or resolve to stay quit. Thus the "need" for a financial investment in my efforts. It somehow makes it more motivational to know that I have $$$ invested in this effort over and above the $$$ saved on cigarettes.
Who had time to read?LOL I only get a chance to read This Old House once in a while. (nm)

I didn't read the other posts but just read this
My daughter got pregnant at 17, said she wanted an abortion but BF didn't. I have a wonderful 2-1/2 yo grand daughter that I don't think I could live without...and now, guess what? I don't. I have custody of her. She was dropped off on my door, I got court ordered temporary custody and final custody hearing in a month.
I'm single with no family support. I had just taken a new MT job one month before this happened and they have been wonderful during my adjusting to being a mom again and I hope I can resume a normal schedule by next week.
I'm passing no moral judgments or giving moral advice. The situation is what it is. My prayers are with everyone involved.
Definitely an eye-opening read. Having my teens read it, too. nm

Mine isn't like that. Mine is 2. All are programmed different.

Mine are 10, 7, and 4.....sm
I get up early and get my work done by noon. If I have more that needs done I do it late at night after they go to bed. I have a very flexible schedule, so as long as the work is back in 24 hours it doesnt matter when I do it. Mine are all girls, so they play really nice together. My 10-year-old is pretty good at keeping the 4-year-old playing. When the two older ones are is school, my 4-year-old is pretty good at playing with her toys, computer or books until I am done. I stop occasionally to read to her or play with her, but I am usually done everyday at noon. For me personally, I would never use daycare. I would try to make it work with the little ones at home. I used to work in a very demanding hospital job doing insurance and billing. When I started work at home I knew I would never see another day care again! Good luck to you and hope you can find a way to get the little ones to stay at home with you!
not mine
I did not make that post
Yep, that's what mine is...
That "azul" thingy - think I'll take my computer, desk and chair to that island and sip a cold drink while I type....

He's mine. Now get out of here.
Do you spend at least 2 hours doing your hair and make up in the hopes that he stops by your house? I didn't think so.
Mine does - up to 14 cpl for certain...
accounts. I'm sure there must be others. Our experience has been that there are still plenty of doctors/healthcare facilities who appreciate quality. Yes, many simply want to save money. Thankfully, some know money is not the most important factor.
Mine did for me
I worked for a company (not MQ) that used DQS and I only have dial-up available to me. I connect at 50.6 Kbps almost all of the time and never had a problem. Once the first dictation loaded, which took less than a minute, the rest would upload in the background while I was working so I never had to wait. Sound quality was always very good, but of course that can depend on your account.
I currently am working on the InScribe platform for a different company and it takes a little over a minute most of the time for my first dictation to load (so it is a little slower than DQS was for me) but after that there is no waiting, just like on DQS.
I have a really reliable ISP so very rarely get disconnects, etc.
While it is very true what the other poster said, you also need to take in to account how much you are getting paid per line. I get paid both ways, for two different jobs I work. If I were to make say $.09/gross line (based on 1" margins all around, Courier New 12 pt. font), then I would need to be paid approximately $.12/65 characters per line to be making near the same amount (this is just a rough estimate).
Me too. Mine is really bad in the a.m. - sm
The pain is not really in one area of my arm, but all over and achey, even going to my wrist sometimes. I absolutely cannot lift my arm over my head without excruciating pain. Heating pad helps me too. Mine actually started when I got this crazy idea to add weightlifting to my cardio regimen at the gym. Since I have bad knees from time to time, I am guessing this may be arthritis. I'm 38. Arthritis is very strong in my family.
Wow! Ask for mine too and keep it! :)
Was an original member when you paid by the MINUTE to use AOL in the early 90s. I think it lead to my divorce...

Mine too
I'm an IC and was fortunate enough to receive Christmas bonuses from three of my accounts this year. I was more excited about being remembered than the money! It is nice when they communicate with you other than in a monotone voice on a tape.
that is what I still use. Mine looks sm
awful but works great. I found a couple on E-bay and bought them for 4 bucks a piece but they are rebuilt and the keys are tighter. Actually I wanted the cords off of them because you can't get the cord anymore and mine had a crack in it. These are the cords the snap in and are not on permanently. I love the clickety clack keyboard and don't want to ever change. I have bought so many adapters, you can't imagine! LOL
mine is this now too:)
Why are you making a big deal about this?
mine too
of course this is my cup of cocoa since I haven't ever touched coffee.
Almost all of mine say thank you, more so than the

I wish mine had. We'd all have been better off.

He also just quit a high paying, benefit-loaded, pension-loving job in sales for Time Share Sales because of the hours. We have 5 kids and they are growing up WAY too fast for him to work 70 hrs a week. Pray for us...this is scary! I am tying to find a better paying MT job and maybe some benefits to make up the $ difference while he trains and gets used to a change!
Mine is 143. nm
