    Wasn't bashing you Nana!
I just thought my post might come off like that LOL. Guess I was sort of agreeing with you! Didn't want it to sound wrong since I attached it to yours!
    I found this interesting

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. doctors increasingly have access to computers to look up information on their patients, but more than half still don't have digital health records or the ability to write electronic prescriptions, a study released on Wednesday found.

Twenty-two percent of doctors surveyed by the Center for Studying Health System Change last year had access to electronic prescription tools compared with 11 percent in 2001.

About half can use computers to access notes on their patients or exchange data with other doctors, up from about 37 percent and 41 percent, respectively, four years earlier.

"Despite substantial growth rates ... many physicians still lack access to practice-based clinical information technology (IT)," said study co-author Marie Reed, who manages data for the independent policy research group.

Overall, a higher percentage of doctors said last year they could use technology to find out about recommended treatments and patients' medications, as well as share information with other physicians.

The study comes as a U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce subcommittee prepares to consider legislation on Wednesday that would create guidelines to help hospitals, doctors and the government share patient records.

All Americans are supposed to have electronic health records by 2014 under a goal set by

    President George W. Bush.

His administration has funded the U.S. Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology but has otherwise relied on private industry to spur wider use of information technology in the health sector.

Some critics say the federal government should take a greater role, offering tax breaks and other incentives as well as requiring U.S. agencies to make greater use of electronic health data.

"In general, major barriers to physician adoption of clinical IT include start-up and maintenance costs, as well as the significant effort and costs of changing workflow to effectively use IT," the study said.

Researchers surveyed more than 6,600 doctors in 2005 and about 12,000 in 2001. The did not ask doctors whether they actually used the technology in their everyday practice.

About 65 percent of doctors last year said they could look up information on treatment guidelines compared with 53 percent in 2001. Twenty-nine percent said they used technology for reminders about preventive treatments for patients, compared with just under 24 percent in 2001.

The Center for Studying Health System Change, which receives most of its funds from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation philanthropy, said promoting digital health data may encourage more doctors to go high-tech.

Until then, the slow adoption rates "suggest that physicians as a group have not yet reached a tipping point in the adoption of IT for most clinical activities," it said.

I found this very interesting indeed...sm
I hope that someone somewhere sees it and makes note of it. It would be nice to be recognized for what we do and the knowledge it takes to do it.

We have a local call center in our city and they ran an ad to hire home-based call center workers. That's cool, instead of offshoring.

I already closed the credit cards, canceled my insurance policy, and rewrote my mortgage with a local bank. It's just tough to boycott all of them. The list of companies that offshore is huge!

People say we need a global economy, but what jobs are going to be left for American workers after everything goes overseas? We can't all be CEOs or doctors.
Something interesting I found regarding offshoring...

I check the Craigslist website quite often, and on a whim I clicked on India and then jobs.  SO MANY POSTINGS FOR JOBS AVAILABLE FOR U.S. BASED COMPANIES - customer service, call centers, computer techs, and yes even MTs.  There was even one posting a few weeks ago from a "company" that would set you up with a U.S. based physical address, phone number, fax number so that you could have your business "based" in the U.S., obviously to actually be in another country and get the U.S. tax break.  Sickening

It's the first time i ran through your site and I found it very informative and interesting. Nice
I really appreciate what you're doing here. Very interesting site. when Table Steal Table Expect , when Opponents Expect Cards Give Good, Greedy, Central nothing comparative to Faithful , Table can Loose Stake Industrious Boy is always Faithful Girl

I found an India MT site - cbay thread is especially interesting...

most of these are old but the CBay post is fairly new...even the MTs in India do not seem to be treated fairly...I imagine there is a lot of abuse over there also.

Too bad we could not unionize them and us together...would that ever be possible you think?

I am not and was not bashing her and all that. sm
I was just trying to vent with colleagues over some of my frustrations.  I didn't call her names, nor did I suggest that she is a bad person in any way.   My only complaint with her is that she never admits she is wrong and never says I am sorry.  But that was yesterday and this is today.  I have vented and I'm fine.  I really didn't mean to stir up such a hornet's nest.  I have no ill will or whatever.  I just sometimes feel that there is a lot of talk about professionalism, but sometimes it is just talk.

I never worked for Signal, but I love MDI, and I do not think, as some have suggested, that she goes around deliberately overhiring, nor do I think she is nuts.   She may be a bit eccentric, but we all are, I suppose, in our own way.   If nothing else, she is a good businesswoman, and that just wouldn't make sense to deliberately cause so many MTs to be miserable with no work.    I have to assume there is some kind of plan in the works.   I do believe she cares about the MTs and making sure there is enough work.

I wish this thread would be deleted -- it was just a frustrated plea for a sympathetic "ear," but now has turned into some meanspirited bashing, which I never wanted.

My apologies to all for being a part of it in any way

    You most certainly WERE bashing.
Otherwise you would not have come on a public message board and posted what you did.  It was rude and unprofessional and as I said in another post, I hope she finds out who you are and FIRES you.  How ungrateful you are.
I don't know why all the bashing sm
on this board when against people who have done this for years and years. If a company calls you to ASK you to do a stat or whatever, you can always say no. I have done MT almost 40 years and I am not yet 60....will be soon. It is the way the business is.

The only way to get out of this is to work in-house and there are not many of those jobs left. Personally for the money that most in-house jobs pay, I would rather work for the MTSO at home.

Not everybody who does MT has that spouse with the second income and they have to work and do what they have to do. My hubby and I have made it work for 36 years. Kids are now grown and gone and have homes and careers of their own and never suffered. My husband and I worked it so that, most of the time, if one was working the other wasn't so the kids didn't have to have a babysitter. There were times when we did use babysitters, etc but we tried our best not to.

There shouldn't be "bashing" on either end BUT, I believe there are many MTs that don't have years of experience that dont' understand this is the business. You have to work when the work is there.

Keep doing what you are doing and you wont' have to worry about work. I never have had to in all the years I have done MT except for the usual holiday type slow downs. Even with all the Mt going to India, etc, I think there is always still going to be a place for MTs with lots of experience. Just my opinion.
    Bush bashing
Administrator-- could we please have all the Bush bashing placed on the political board where it belongs????
Here's my take (I'm not in the mood for bashing, either!)

I enjoy belonging to AAMT because they keep me informed about what is going on in the industry. I live in a rather rural area and we do have a small component chapter in our area which I also like, as it helps me stay connected with people in this profession in my particular area (networking).  Our meetings are not held on Saturdays, so the other poster who said that may have experienced that, but not in my area.

I do enjoy going to the symposiums--they are not that expensive and I learn a great deal as well as network with other people in my state.  That is priceless, in my opinion.

I also like being involved with a professional association, as I take my profession seriously and want to associate myself with the professional association, and AAMT is it in that regard.  If there were other choices, I might feel differently.

Are they perfect?  Heck, no!  But, the members do elect the people who make the decisions and therefore I feel my voice does get heard.  Do they always do what I want?  No, but no organization would, as everyone has different opinions.

I think it is a personal choice.  I've been in MT for 25+ years and a member of AAMT for the past 12.  I make a very good wage, and yes, I do get compensated for my CMT, though I understand many do not.  I am proud to be a member and plan to keep up my membership as long as I feel my needs are being met which is networking, continuing education, etc.

    MT Bashing by nurses

I found this on a nurse's blog - they were talking about MT mistakes they found in charts...

    Nurse #1:
I tried to get a job as a medical Transcriptionist for extra money, and no one would hire me because my 15 years experience of direct patient care does not qualify me to be a transcriptionist. Oh really? Or, I guess I mean, Owe Reilly?

    Nurse #2:

I have no idea why they wouldn't let you work as a transcriptionist - what sort of special training would you need that you wouldn't already have?! It might be a good way to make ends meet if there came a point where a nurse couldn't stand up for so long anymore. It doesn't seem like it would take much in the way of critical thinking skills...

We don't use critical thinking skills?  Darn, then maybe I should look into the career opportunities at Burger King...

Don't turn this into a Bush bashing

    nm

That's not bashing? Coulda fooled me.

what's wrong with my typing? Are the bashing
and insults starting for lack of logic?
Why are you bashing her for making a sacrifice for her family first?
    Good grief!
bush bashing? Do you like paying 5 bucks a gallon for gas? NM

    get a life.

No, I need to work with some coworkers with "class", not low rental boss-bashing cats!

And what I love the most - if Frank himself called one of them, or actually walked up to them in an office, they'd fall all over him, gushing about how great he is to work for! Guaranteed! Its just so "catty" to claw his eyes out on an anonymous message board and giggle, giggle, giggle. I'd be saying the same thing to their faces as well, except I'd probably be their supervisor and would be canning their catty behinds.

Oh, I found it really creepy when you said you found the flowers not so skillfully arranged on your
steps, and from your own flower bed.  That's what I was worried about, having gone thru some psycho kids myself with my pups.  Someone's been in your yard and in your garden and at your door without your knowledge.  Its just creepy to me, and I'd still be very, very careful.  Especially valid sounded the other MTs warning you about potential fake molestation charges.  You just NEVER know nowadays, and these people have already turned on you big time once. Luckily (though I don't believe in luck), you had it on film to save yourself and your puppy.  You might not be that lucky next time, and the whole thing just sounds very unstable to me right now.  I know you feel sorry for the little girl, but probably the only time I have ever made BAD decisions regarding my life is when I felt sorry for someone, particularly kids.  My son even has an evil kid in his life, but one who has a million reasons for sympathy, and I was saying how we should "be bigger" than the situation and invite this kid over to play.  Thankfully, I regained my sanity long enough to remember - ever time I have done something like that on a personal basis for someone just because I feel sorry for them AFTER horrible behavior, it has always been a disaster... Be kind, but you don't have to risk your family again. Be kind from a distance.  Its sorry she went thru this horrible experience, but YOU didn't cause it, and its not really your problem.  But it could be your problem if this kid acts out in your life.  Know what I mean?
I think I found it, found multiple recipes with the same
exact ingredients so I figure this must be it.
    Found it, Prolastin, also found

If it really isn't you or wasn't you...

I would check out the posts made by MQMT under "Straw that broke the camel's back".  Maybe I'm seeing double....who knows anymore at this stage of the game!!  Have a good day.

By the way, I did have a complete burnout on MTing after about 30 years so took a two year break; Glad I'm back now but the break was a "good thing"!!

    Maybe the CEO wasn't (sm)
addressing students who were kicked back in their easy chair with time to surf the internet. Maybe he only meant it for students that had evacuated and would eventually find their way to a computer where they could go online and contact the school, since they didn't have the phone number in their pocket when they ran.
    I know it wasn't
my post. I just get tired of people who seem to be looking for a reason to jump all over some one. You are the one who needs to take a chill pill. Unlike you, I am perfectly calm.
Actually it was. I wasn't trying to
say your kids are perfect angles or be a smart ass. Maybe I should have worded that better. Sometimes you/we come across different in emails, internet or whatever then what you/we are really trying to say. Maybe we all did. Enough said.
No, that wasn't one of them.
You mentioned below that it was a local company. I'd give it a try. If you find out down the road that it's horrible, you can quit. Otherwise, you might miss out on a good thing because some person on an Internet message board had a bad experience with some other company. We are all seeking different things in relation to work. Don't let our experiences scare you. One employer, one MTSO or one account doesn't set the standard for the entire industry.
Thanks, wasn't sure how I was going to keep up with it
moving that fast.  Looking forward to next week and trying to sort it all out.
I said I wasn't going to do that
so I'm not sure why you felt the need to be arbitratary but that's your choice.
    No, I wasn't.
And you pelase stop with your diva/gangsta/pushy tone? It got old the first time you played it for us, and it isn't giving any credence to your stance.
    No, wasn't them. nm
    nm
Thank you all for the help. I wasn't able to
recover but at least know where the folder is so I can back it up in the future.

    nm
When did I say that I wasn't doing it?
I never said that. I don't get all of his reports. I work for a national. I am not the only MT on the account. This was the first I had heard him request this and I did what he asked. Had I known beforehand I would have done it before. Someone else dropped the ball on that. I let my supervisor and QA know about his request. Apparently the MT who got the request originally did not do that.
Thank you, I wasn't looking at it that way.
    x
    Too bad there wasn't
a way to make these people in India aware of how they are being ripped off only making $27 a day, when some of us make that in an hour. Maybe then they would demand more money from these US companies and the MTs in the US wouldn't look so expensive to employ. I almost fell out of my desk chair when I read what they make in a day.
    I wasn't asking what the
company pays. I was asking what you consider good pay
    This wasn't sm

TransAm by chance?  They are scam artists and always have been.

I think you have been had and I am sorry for it.  This is NOT what you signed up for and I think you have been taken advantage of.  Please cut your losses and look for a real job.

I would love to tell you that no company ever charges a "setup fee" but that is not strictly true.  I know that I have been asked to buy a pedal or Docushuttle before.  I have been asked to upgrade to XP Pro, but I declined that job offer.  There is still one major national who expects you to pay for transportation to their New Jersey facility and pay for your lodging.  They reimberse you for part of this if you stay at least 6 months.  I personally would not do that.

All companies are in this for the money (so are we) and that means they get you set up to MAKE money, as much and as quickly as you can.

    I wasn't disagreeing with you...sm...

I was just elaborating on the positive aspects which give us freedom of choice.  I agree with you 100% about the negative aspects.  That's why I've been "happily divorced" for 8 years.

and if her mom wasn't on television (sm)
she'd be criticized for NOT being there. So she's damned either way.  She needs support, guidance, and prayers.  She should not be held responsible for her emotional outbursts. Honey, if my daughter was missing, you'd see a lot worse out of me!
    I never said I wasn't a great MT.
It does take teamwork, however.  That's something I've noticed is SORELY lacking in this industry.  Everyone complains about everyone else instead of looking at their own contribution to the problem.  And garbage rolls downhill, so it's the MTs who get the brunt of it for EVERYTHING.  Everyone else thinks they're superior to the MTs, so there's no accountability whatsoever.  Instead, the blame is shifted to the lowest person on the totem pole, AKA the MT.  Righty oh?
No, and I wasn't whining either.

I just made an observation that you hadn't responded yet.  And I was working myself, so I was trying to be brief.  Like I told Endiqua, it's not that I, myself, don't believe you or anyone else who is earning really good $$$ at MT.  I don't really care if other MTs believe you or not.  That's their problem.  I do believe it can be done, but I want to know how I can do it, too.  Honestly, I appreciate the advice and sharing of experiences.  I'm not trying to come across as snotty or trollish.

My last (??maybe?) question for you is how long you have been on your particular accounts, and are they low, mid or high level accounts?  I worked for both MQ and S, but I left for greener pastures because they kept bouncing me from difficult ESL account to another within a week of the last one.

I made more in the past year doing MT than every other year combined since I started several years ago.  I'm not working a part-time job as backup any more either.  I've also tripled my expander stats in the past month.  I could be satisfied with that, but I believe the potential is there to do so much more.

No, I wasn't trying to be ugly to ANYONE. I truly was
    trying to make some peace.

    Goodness gracious.

    Sorry folks.
    No, it wasn't credited.
Two paychecks have been incorrect.  I've been an MT for 17 years and I know when I am not g
    No, it wasn't credited.
I know when I am not getting paid correctly.
How can it be against the Bible when it wasn't even
invented yet?  You're saying that people who read their daily horoscope in the newspaper are against God and the Bible?  It's not like we're smoking bidis, sniffing incense, and visiting the palm readers or fortune tellers.  Entertainment purposes.
After one day, it realized MDI wasn't for me - sm

System seemed nice at first but quickly turned out it wasn't.  Someone else I know told me hers kept locking up on her.  You don't have access to your Word entries and if you don't have a compatible shortcut expander, you have to start all over again in theirs.  That stinks.

I found my QA to be very, very picky, over the top, ridiculous things.  I don't think they want people to work for them because it seems you can't do anything right and I'm one who has been in this business a LONG time and no one ever complained about my work before.

I was very disappointed as I had heard good things about MDI-MD.  Just goes to show what is right for one MT is not for another.

And, again, I wasn't talking about you. sm
When I said I thought maybe she overindulged her children, I wasn't referring to where she takes them. I was referring to her comment about how she needs the time away from them, and how even her mother admitted she must be pulling her hair out trying to deal with them. By overindulged, I meant by the way she must let them behave and the attitudes she lets them get off with, or she wouldn't need so much time away from them. So, again, no ... I wasn't speaking about you.
    it wasn't funny
