Please help. Our Transcriptionist left abruptly, and we are needing to acess the files to pull a medical report. We have the job in que, but we are not able to get any further. Can someone walk us through getting this thing typed.

Help with an older Lanier system

I need to get an owner's manual for an older analog call-in system by Lanier.  I believe it is called the voicewriter 650 model #P145.  It is the one that has four microcassettes in a carousel on top that spins.  I got it from a friend, but of course she can't find the manual and I don't know the functions and she can't remember all of them  I have tried calling Lanier and they have given my like five different numbers and no one can seem to help and it is frustrating.  So I thought someone on here might be familiar with the system or know how to get a manual or if there is one online.  Thank you in advance for any help!

Have a Lanier VW system which pulls voice files

can pull your voice directly from the hospital side so you can send via FTP directly to your MT's. The files are converted to play using Express Scribe or any player which can play typical .wav files.

If you deal with seperate dempgraphic files I can help also. Thanks

Radiology Work-Keystrokes

Any information on Keystrokes radiology.  They have several adds with different formats.  One I might be interested in but afraid to take the plunge.  I have done work for the same two radiologists for 10 years and know what they are going to say before they say it.  What is their rate of pay and are there many ESL?

The company I USED to work for changed how keystrokes were SM
counted without telling us. This went gradually on over a period of months. Because my work hours were rather erratic (largely due to not enough work available--they were offshoring our accounts without telling us too), I preferred to assume my lowered production speed had to do with that. And went through the same confused and upset period as everyone else, thinking/wishing/hoping I could cure the problem by working better.

I'm at fault for not recognizing what was happening much sooner and demanding an answer, thus setting myself up for abuse. The questions I finally asked--out of curiosity about what they would say because I had had already learned the truth--were responded to with careful evasions and total failure to disclose.

I did ultimately leave that company for these reasons.

We can--have to, after all--accept that the rapid changes brought by new technologies and methods of increased production require changes in how the counts are done, and that these changes may be fairly and appropriately calibrated.

We do not not have to, and should not, accept not being told it's being done or being mislead or lied about what's happening. Best wishes.
Keystrokes does not and will not send work out of the United States. nm

Is Keystrokes a good company for any work type other than radiology? sm

I have seen really good reports on this board (and others) about Keystrokes being the place to be for radiology but have really not seen much discussion regarding other work types.  I am primarily interested in op notes as I understand they will only hire if you have spent the last several years in a particular work type and ops are it for me.  I wonder about their platform, pay scale, flexibility, whether or not weekend work is required, etc.  I have left my email address in case anyone would like to privately email me.  I would really appreciate some input.  Thank you.

The state told us that MTs are employees because we they work in our system and do the same work as
maybe you can work for a company in another state.
Anyone work with a Lanier VTI unit?
Just started today for a new service.  I have plugged in the  Lanier VTI unit and have checked the connections; they all seem to be correct.  I can dial in to the hospital system and access a report, but the foot pedal won't work.  My MTSO is calling in a technician but I hope it's not something silly I'm overlooking.  Any suggestions?
Lanier is proprietary meaning it will only work
with a Lanier system and you cannot use a C-Phone or DVI workstation to access a Lanier digital system.  You won't be able to use it with a DVI system or Dictaphone.  However, if memory serves, you should be able to use a Dictaphone C-phone or DVI workstation interchangeably with most other digital dictation systems and Dictaphone.
Company requires a C-phone. Will a Lanier Lx-219 work as well? sm

What is the difference in a Dictaphone, C-phone, Lanier LX-219 and Lanier Expresswriter or Voicewriter?

Thanks!

Lanier Foot Pedal will NOT work with Express Scribe
Sorry to tell you but no a lanier foot pedal from a transcription machine will not work with an wav.player.
Most foot pedals out there are at least 69.00. - (cheapest I found) - and be careful what kind you get - if you have a newer computer - you will want the USB one - (faster, works great)
I work on VR and according to the system you will use
you might not be able to get double or triple the lines. My VR audio only goes so fast and it is entirely out of the question to make any more than I do. I keep the speed turned up as fast as it will go and the speed of VR dictates what you can make, not your speed.
Need Lanier ExWriter to test. Will VDI station or C-phone work or can I rerecord?

I am unfamiliar with the Lanier ExWriter. Can somebody please fill me in? I have a C-phone, VDI station, a call-in system with L.E.E.C.H. capabilities that can download work onto my system from another, or rerecord equipment. Can you access files from call-in systems like you can with a regular telephone and C-phone? How is the sound quality? I am not to thrilled with the .dss or WAV files.

Thanks!

Last day of the pay period. No work on the system.

It should work regardless of the programs on your system...sm
I'd try contacting their support team again.
System restore won't work for this.
The icon on the toolbar is controlled by the normal.dot file and system restore does not affect that file. You can take the icon off the toolbar by holding down on the Alt key and dragging the button down to the document window with your mouse. You can also open the customize dialog box on the tools menu and drag it off that way.
Where I work we are on a tiered system,
per pay period.

9 cpl for the first 12,000

then an extra 0.5 cpl every 2000 lines.
Does anyone know anything about the new EMR system? and how it will affect MT's work? nm

When you work in an office, you can see when others are manipulating the system.
so don't judge her for knowing
I'd work in Word and cut and paste into their system. SM
Ask them if you can type it in Microsoft Word and then cut and paste (copy the Word document and paste it into their system).

It is not feasible to work without a spell checker. Word has a pretty good spell and grammar checker and there is no reason to do without it.

See if their "tech" department can come up with a macro to copy the text of the Word document and paste it into their program. Or, you could create a Word macro and paste it into their system. Either way. There is an excellent Macro recording program called Macro ToolWorks which is free for 30 days and then $40.00 that can duplicate key strokes and mouse movements, and could copy the document, go to their program and paste it in. They you'd just hit one button, like the Ctrl button plus a number. Their tech department should only take one or two days to come up with some solution.

Good luck. I just would not work without Word spell checker and also Steadman Medical Spell Checker. Essentials to any production typing job. Good luck !
A regular Infinity USB pedal should work with their system. Why not ask them for sure? nm

Hi, Deeni! I did Lanier for several years and was always told that Lanier....sm
would only work with/accept/interface with other Lanier products, that everything was proprietary, but that was a few years ago and do not know if anything there has changed, wish I was of more help!  Have a good one!
I love the night shift! No interruptions and more work on the system.
I agree with poster below - Power NAPs! I am a napper, need my nap about 30 minutes to 1 hour, before my shift and a pot of coffee sometimes 2 gets me through!
work out an indexing system that works for you and copy (almost) every report into it.

while Ops offer lot of challenges -- that's a good thing, imho, REALLY ...

I keep my op stored in WORD sorted by

(1) client

(2) specialty (general surgeon, ortho, plastic, podiatrics, ENT, GYN, GI , urology, neurosurgery etc) .... and then in word folders

(3) within speciality, within client I name individual reports like this:

470 hernia vental simple

470 hernia umbilical

470 small bowel resection

=========================================================

470 would be that doctor's id number -- the file holding 470's reports would be named with doctor's last name

=========================================================

works for me, although I do usually do big time "indexing" until I've gota bunch of copied reports.

=========================================================

It's really important to NOT consider these NORMALS until you are more familiar with the dictator ... however... this is worthwhile ANYWAY because the joy of OPs is that most doctors say pretty much the same thing in 80% of their reports ... sometimes more. Gastroenterology and GYN  are excellent "easy money" most of the time but you MUST pay attention and change every difference ...

All these saved reports need to be updated when you review your QA ... those phrases that doctor mumbled yesterday are probably mumbled 24/7/365 ... follow up and record this information.

=========================================================

I use Emedicine for my go-to for a lot of things... while they don't have op reports they are stellar at terminology and spelling, hyphens, and capitalization as far as I can tell.

One of the fabulous things about op reports is usually NO MEDICATION LOOKUPS!!!! (although you will spend time finding out the latest heart stents, hip replacemetn component marketing  names, etc. ) Most medical device manufacturers have "pretty good" web sites -- use them, rather than relative Google popularity wrt spelling, caps, etc.

Good luck -- there is a learning curve but imho it is more than worth it -- Surgeons understand that their dictation is in essence their "BILL" when it comes to Medicare and insurance -- they have a vested interest in it being intelligible and complete ... they may talk really fast but most of the time, if you have samples, you will find they are saying variations of the "same thing" using the same words/terminology.

Oh, and OP pay better.

Sincerely, good luck.!

Meditech is an operating system and Fusion is voice for a dictation system

Keystrokes. sm
I know that they have gotten beat up on here lately and had good posts too, but I think that each company is different for each person. I have found a permament place, as long as they stay this way or improve. I am treated fairly, paid well and on time. I am left alone as long as I do what I commit to. This is a perfect situation for me, but to each his own.
Try Keystrokes
They may have radiology positions open.

Viki,

I sent you some info via email.  Check your email.

keystrokes ads
anyone know why Keystrokes has ads requiring at least 3 years experience but their website says 5?  which one is it?

Do you mind e-mailing me please?
KeyStrokes
Can anyone give me some info on Keystrokes? Are they a good company to work for? Competitive line rate, etc.?
Keystrokes

Does anybody know about the company called Keystrokes Transcription Service, Inc out of Illinois?  Am thinking about working for them.

Keystrokes, MDI-MD
to name a couple.
Keystrokes
This company always pays on time and in general is easy to work for.  QA and TAT are big priorities as in most every other company, but also they try to keep their employees happy.  They also do not offshore and pay is good.
Keystrokes
I have applied to Keystrokes over three weeks ago for radiology positions.  Unless they are not happy with my work, could anyone tell me why they continue to advertise for 30, 60, however many openings they have?  What gives with them?  Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks.
How many keystrokes TX vs. VR
For those MTs that do VR editing, about how many Keystrokes would you say you do compared to straight typing?  10%?  20%?  I know it varies but I am just looking for a ballpark figure.  For those that had RSI symptoms, have you found relief in editing??

Thanks!

Hi:

You want to know about Keystrokes.  Well I am currently on an account that requires 1200 lines/day.  It is a very difficult acount though and most cannot make this goal.  they are not at all flexible here, but there are many other accounts, so depends on where you are working.  If you would like more info, you can email me at above email address.

Hope this helps.

Does Keystrokes run this place? nm

Question about Keystrokes
I am considering applying to Keystrokes for a MT job as I see they are advertising for a variety of MTs. Has anyone here had any experience with them or know anything about this company.
I just want some feedback before I jump in. Thanks!
The latest with Keystrokes

New to this site.  Read something a while ago about Keystrokes not hiring.  Does anyone know anything about them now?  How are they to work for and how do they pay?  Thanks for any information, good, bad or ugly.

Saving Keystrokes
I did just purchase this book and think it has substantial advice/ideas and with a little reprogramming of my brain I think it will pay off greatly in the long run. I don't see how a line count can't be increased with using the short cuts shared in the book. I'm not disappointed with the book.
KEYSTROKES-YOUR OPINION

I AM INTERESTED IN APPLYING FOR A POSITION WITH KEYSTROKES.  CAN ANYONE PROVIDE ME WITH SOME INFORMATION ON KEYSTROKES?  DO THEY HAVE STEADY RADIOLOGY ACCOUNTS AND HOW IS THE STAFF?

THANKS FOR ANY INFORMATION YOU CAN PROVIDE!!!-

Keystrokes is good. nm

Keystrokes is the best out there for radiology. They may have some sm
negative posts here but I love radiology and they are the best that I have found with plenty of work.
ks is Keystrokes, an MT company.

Lots and lots of abbreviations, most if you think about it will are obvious -

nt - no text

KWIM  - know what I mean

ITA - I totally agree

HTH - hope this helps

Saving Keystrokes
I probably don't type as fast as most of you, but our company set a standard of 160 lph, and said that the national average is 175.  Since adding shortcut keystrokes, I have gotten my production counts up to an average of 179 now.  I got a lot of this information from you girls - reading your comments, and now have just gotten the book "Saving Keystrokes" as I want to keep adding more.  If you add a few each week, you can build up your production.  I was at about 130-150, depending upon how the doctors dictated that day - one is much more challenging!

Spheris v Keystrokes
I have worked for Spheris. Follow your instincts and do what your heart says. If it says leave Spheris, it is correct! I am a new hire of Keystrokes and they are really busy with lots of new accounts. I do have to say the owner herself contacted me several times, the recruiter, payroll, and when things needed doublechecking, a coordinator of my paperwork and equipment. To top it off, the lady who sets the computer up is fantastic. These people will continue to grow because they have that old-time feel. There are growing pains, I can see, but my heart tells me what others have said: These are good people and a good place to work. Good luck!
