I have 1st edition AAMT BOS, company requires I have 2nd edition.
I don't think you can just get updates but have to buy 2nd edition book. I need cheap. I did find one place for $70, anywhere cheaper? I checked the equipment board here for the last month and didn't see any offered.
My 1995 edition (called the 1st edition by most)
is 519 pages long.
Maybe you're thinking of AAMT's old gold Style Guide for Medical Transcription? (though my 1985 edition of that is only 70 pages long)
A basic recommendation for a basic expander use plan SM
If you use your Expander mainly to store text for specific doctors and their specific reports you will 1) Find it extremely difficult and expensive to change jobs (critically so, to the point of eventually feeling you can't or even leaving the field when your employer lets you go) and 2) as someone said, find yourself spending a whole lot of time editing your expansions to the current report.
I strongly recommend instead contacting Linda for her system, then day by day developing your expander vocabulary of INDIVIDUAL words and phrases, untied to any specific report. I can take my abbreviation for "denies any fevers, chills, or sweats" (dyfcos) to any of dozens of companies and use it for dictations of thousands of doctors. No having to change it, because I also have one for "denies fever, chills, or sweats," one for "denies having fevers, chills, or sweats," and so on and so on. As Linda says, with a system the individual abbreviations don't have to be memorized. As you can see, these terms are merely the first letters of the words in the phrase(with Y standing in for "any" instead of A because that's my abbreviation for the word "any" itself).
BTW, regarding that last, editing gets very fast when all you have to type to drop in the word "the" here and there as you cruise through is a T, "his" a G, a "that" a V, et cetera. No special reason for those letters for those words, I was just looking for a one-letter abbreviation I could cut them down to to speed up.
Hope this makes sense. Linda will understand what I mean about the extreme importance of developing an independent dictionary of expansions that will work with any dictator.
I always preferred a couple
bong hits while typing... it made the work a lot easier. Not sure I could type while doing alcohol.
I use the preferred version just
I used the standard version for a while and it sucked. The preferred version however has been just fine. Bought mine on ebay.
Her posts are much preferred to yours

looking for MTs from Alaska, Anchorage preferred sm
Husband has brought up the idea of moving to Anchorage. He is looking at a job there. I would like someone who has time to answer some questions through e-mail.
If interested, please e-mail me.
Thanks,
I type a lot of letters, would Dragon 10 Preferred be something that would work well?
Does anyone know if the Dragon 10 Preferred would work for just typing letters? I was thinking of investing in that product but worry that it may be a complete waste. Anyone hear or experience this particular product?
I think is called preferred vendor? Facility gets certain monetary breaks to only use one

Express Scribe users.....what are your preferred Playback settings?.....sm
I am starting to use this and would like to optimize the settings. TIA
Personally, I preferred a KVM box that had a button I pushed to switch back and forth. SM
I had one where you had to use a keyboard macro to switch back and forth and I could never remember the macro and it was a pain. Now I have a PengHong (I've never heard of them either but it works great!) which is a very simple silver box with two buttons PC1 and PC2. It also came with two sets of cables. It was pretty much i-d-i-o-t proof which was exactly what I needed!
i was taught opposite, lol, but then at another company they preferred all disc; wide varieties. n

Never did TrimSpa, etc. just talking about dieting in general. Slow and steady is preferred way

BOS 3rd edition changes sm
For those who do not have the 3rd edition of AAMT BOS, thought I would let you know the changes. Just got my copy. I think some of them will take a lot of reeducation. I do QA, and I know how hard it has been to move everyone toward putting 3-cm lesion. Now we have to tell them it is wrong! Sigh....
* Dropping the use of hyphens with numeric values and metric units when forming compound modifies (2 cm incision rather than 2-cm incision)
*Dropping the use of periods in most lowercased Latin abbreviations, like legal abbreviations (et al, eg, ie, viz, etc) and literary reference abbreviations (p, pp, sec)
*Continued trend toward dropping the use of periods with abbreviated personal and coutesy titles unless it is known that the person in question prefers the inclusion of a period (Dr, Mrs, Jr, Sr)
*Dropping the use of a comma to separate a person's last name from titles, such as Jr, Sr, or roman numerals following a person's last name from titles, such as John H Smith III.
*The inclusion of a space between the numeric value and the degree symbol when expressing temperature values and their scales (using degree sign)
*Dropping the space between parameters when expressing TNM staging for malignant tumors (T2N1M0 rather than T2 N1 M0 OR T2, N1, M1)
*Dropping the use of subscripts with EEG electrode references.
Stedman's 4th edition is even better...
than the 3rd. It's true there may not be every single radiology term in Stedman's, but I don't know of ANY reference, text or electronic, that has every know term. For any book on ANY specialty to have every conceivable term is impossible - unless we want books 10 feet thick.
AAMT BOS second edition-sm
Does anyone have this for sale for a reasonable price or know where I can purchase it for a reasonable price? Thanks in advance.
stedman edition
u dont know how much i appreciated this bit of orientation. I just started my first oficial transcription job at a nephrologist office. I'm so proud of myself after trying in within two years to KICK my foot in the door. This week has been tough but I'm learning and quickly catching on. I just cant wait till I can effortlessly fly through my reports. Thanks for the advise. I will purchase my book through ebay tonight.
thank you again,

The 5th edition was put out in 2006. Definitely

AAMT BOS Third Edition
Anyone know when the third edition is due to be released?
Stedman's 4th edition is from 2004 and has...
1044 pages of words, plus appendices of 43 pages. I prefer Stedman's over HPI.

AAMT BOS 2nd edition cost?
Does anyone know how much AAMT charges for a new BOS? I am looking to purchase the 2nd edition AAMT BOS (have the 1st edition) but cannot get on the AAMT website to comparison shop. I have looked at Amazon and Half.com. Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.
Thank you Cindi, I do have that one, 28th Edition.
Have had it since my very first day MT'ing and wouldn't be without it.
waiting for Stedman's 5th edition ---

About the BOS-2, we are talking about the 2002 edition?

the online electronic edition is definitely

Error in Book of Style 2nd edition!?
Hey! I just paid over $60 for this dang BOS (my new employer requires I have one), so I'm studying it diligently, and on page 297 they're referring to Salter-Harris fractures as "Slater-Harris". Thought I was going nuts, checked Stedman's and they say its Salter. Am worried there are other errors in it, and I won't know it! Do they publish their bloopers anywhere?
I'm not a member of AAMT (and probably never will be, I'm not a joiner), but I'm pretty doggone disgusted I just shelled out that kind of money for published errors, especially after reading repeatedly in the book how regular MTs aren't worthy of putting letters after their name unless they've been certified by the all-knowing AAMT! Guess I'd never pass their test since I'd say Salter-Harris instead of Slater!
Anyway, I feel ripped off, especially since all editors/employers act like the AAMT is holy like the pope! Thanks for listening to me vent!
You need the Book of Style, 2nd Edition, to work out here. Some used

AAMT Book of Style-2nd Edition
I am a new MT, I was wondering if anyone was selling any "AAMT Book of Style-2nd Edition" or the CD Rom version? Also looking for a current Medical Spellchecker?

Turbo Tax Home Business Edition! Tax Q's!!
OK, I know you probably are sick of taxes, but here I am just getting started, as usual. I always owe so much $$ that it makes me sick, and so I procrasinate. At any rate, I had used Turbo Tax Home Business for several years and it was GREAT until last year. Then they changed the program and it tanked for me, but I have high hopes that maybe this year its better and improved??? My problem is that I work for a company - that big one who shall remain nameless, and am an employee, but I always take the home office deduction -- have done so for 20 years, as my home is taken over by my office. At any rate, last year on Turbo Tax Home Business you could NOT enter your rent or mortgage or any utilities off of a W2 form - you had to be an IC. I also am a per diem IC, so I have a few hundred dollars in W9 forms. But Turbo Tax last year would NOT let me use this home office deduction - it couldn't recognize it from a technical aspect with the W2 form. I'm just about to blow $100+ on the online version, and thought maybe I'd ask here first. Has anybody used Home Business edition TT this year? Is it great like it used to be? Any snags? I know I was not alone last year with this business office deduction as April 14th this board and all other MT boards were jammed up with hundreds of us trying to figure out how to manually override this snag! With no luck.... Anybody have any experiences with TT this year? Those are my only deductions, by the way - just home office and utilities, no other itemizations. So it should be easy.... LOL! LOL!
This is getting ridiculous. I REFUSE to buy yet another edition of the BS of Style.
Those broads at the AHDI or whatever it is called now have too much time on their hands! They need to get real jobs. Get back out there in the trenches, have someone QA the crap out their work, and see how they like every changing quicksand of MT.

Basic 4
Can anyone tell me what Basic 4 MTs is?
THanks
basic 4
Where I have worked, op reports have always been a part of the basic 4...DS/OPS/H&P/CONS. Letters were just a part of the overall package. ER was in a class all its own and not considered as difficult at the basic 4 (on par with clinic work).
I know it's very basic, but have you...
tried Yahoo Geocities? I have an 'information only' site I made myself, and I think it's about $10 per month.
The basic 4s are so much different
than your clinic work. When starting in MTing I thought it would be a breeze. It took me a full year to get up to the expected number of lines per day. The lines they are asking for in order for you to go home, in fact, is probably less than most require in this field. I always transcribed over 2000 lines per day and now with voice recognition and straight it is over 3000. That is the world of transcription. I think their count is lenient myself. Transcription work is not easy as you are learning.
What is the basic
equipment and software that one should have before working as an IC? I currently work full time (supposedly) for a hospital and would like to supplement my income but am afraid of not having the right equipment to start. Also, can anyone suggest a good company? Thanks!!!
Basic 4
The 'Basic 4' work 'types' we speak of are: History and Physical Examinations, Consultations, Operative Reports (including Procedure Notes) and Discharge Summaries (including Psychiatric reports).
Basic 4
What is meant by Basic 4 - NM
Basic four?
Well, imagine the dive my confience took as a new MT looking for work, when I started hearing the term "basic four" and had no clue what that meant. *sigh*
Enlighten me, please?
The basic 4s were around in the 70s
Heard it then, has nothing to do with the MTSOs because I never knew of companies existing before the early 2000s as I was only working inhouse at hospitals. If a person does not know what they are, then how do you suppose a person might be able to do, just wing it? This is a newbie asking the question, not a dumb question but just one that maybe she should know because if not, might hinder her in the ability to do a job.
Her new edition added tips for XP and 2003. If you upgrade your word
