Just my opinon but sad....sm

To the poster who stated:

"Unlike you, I volunteered for yesterday and today, but did not volunteer to stay up all night Wednesday with a preschooler begging me to take away her tummy pain, and also deal with her illness as I tried to work yesterday."

I can understand about wanting to vent about work types etc. but I find it very sad that somebody would come on a public board and post the above. States "Did not volunteer to stay up with a sick child all night. ? Yes you did when took responsibility for that child. That child did not "Volunteer" to be sick begging for your help to take away her tummy pain. You have no problem that you volunteered for work for have a problem that the child is sick. I do hope you see that child is much more of a blessing that you could ever imagine. I think your posting is very sad....

My honest opinon and advice

First of all 4 years is not a very long time at all in this business.  You do not realize that, but you do ask some very valid questions.  First of all, the MT business is a very fast-growing business, true.  Hospitals, medical facilities, and even different state disability departments are all going with MT Services.  This is much easier for them as far as cost and coordinating work, employees, and equipment.  The problem is that such a great demand has caused large MTSOs to want in on the $$ action.  So much work is being offshored that you would not believe it even if someone quoted you a figure.  This makes it very profitable because they of course work so much cheaper than the U.S. MT.  This is driving the pay down in America even if you can find decent accounts to transcribe.  Everyone in this business will tell you how it has changed.  The schools will NOT tell you that.

You sound like you are still young and torn in making a career decision.  You do need to find out the realities of all elements in the MT business, which means production, auditing, offshoring, pay per line, periods with no work, periods with too much work, scheduling, equipment changes, and losing jobs through no fault of your own, and especially the fact that the bottom line all comes down to $$ with companies, clients, and MTs. Comes with the territory and you have to be able to go with the flow and the stress of that, and be willing to accept constant change.  If you would prefer something a little more stable and less stressful, you should be checking into those options now.  I am pushing retirement age and change is not so readily available to me at this point, and considering where I live.  I love this profession, I really do, but if I were in YOUR shoes, I would look into other options and get started on a different career while I was still young.

Just accept that it is you opinon and let it rest. We all read all of the posts, yours included sm
and all taken into account.
