an entry has been made to change that particular word to capped. Try turning off AutoCorrect. Maybe that is messing with it.
The only other thing I can think of is that now and then I will hit some combination that causes problems with my computer, and you can turn it off by hitting SHIFT and the period key. Maybe that is what has happened to your computer.
