It's not the name that matters. It is who you associate with a name that makes it beautiful

I use ASS for associate...

I have several docs that always say "consultation with GI, Dr. Pooh Bear and associate" and when I am in a hurry, I get the A and the I turned around.

I sometimes have trouble when I am typing a regular e-mail because of all the "shorthand" I have for working.  I just type a w for with, wh for which and I find I do that when I'm not working as well.

You are a Business Associate...sm
and as such, it is appropriate to trust you with this material. It's like the clerk at the bank seeing your account number on your deposit check and seeing your account balance when she deposits your check. You are within the system, processing information appropriately. No HIPAA violation there plus patient identification is there for accurate record keeping. Would you rather have them guessing between S. Smithes or seeing which one lived at which address with with DOB?
Why? Do you associate them with elderly women? sm
The hot names today, Ashley, Brittany,Taylor, etc., will one day be associated with old, overweight women and thus be considered ugly, elderly names. Better to stick with classics like Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah.
I didn't know there was an associate degree for
Guess we do learn something new every day. How long did it take you to get this degree in MT? Did you go to college or tech school? If you have an associates degree in MT, you should be overloaded with job offers, I'd think...
U wouldn't associate with Paul McCartney?
He's a major pothead, ya know!
Associate's Degree in Medical Secretarial Science - sm
2-year program with emphasis on transcription.  Terrific - wouldn't have learned it any other way.  Taught me to be a good MT - not these quick-fix on-line programs where everyone things they can early a huge salary as soon as they are done.
Does this mean you don't have a business associate contract/agreement in place with your doctors

Associate in Applied Medical Science, Bachelor's in Liberal arts with emphasis on Psychology
and looking for a way to get out of MT before voice rec takes over!

Kids are grown and gone and I no longer need to be home all day. The cats don't need as much supervision as the kids did.
And this matters?

And you're miffed her E-mails are horrendous? Big deal!  She's paying you; you're not paying her.

Where exactly DO you get off?

She's entitled to fire off horrendous E-mails every hour on the hour if she wants to, and under the circumstances, she should - they don't have to be correct with every 'I" dotted and every "T" crossed, but the work she's paying you guys to do needs to be correct to the "T,"  so be thankful she was gracious enough to give those who do a substandard job notice and that she just didn't up and clean house.

actually, I don't think it really matters where...
you are, everybody is vulnerable to anything happening anywhere these days. These types of things have been going on for years, who knows exactly where.
Well, it matters to me!
nm
It matters not where we were. Only if we remember.
Imagine.
I don't think the experience matters as much as...

the ability to see an opportunity and make it work. As an MTSO you will need to be able to find a way to have transcription done and delivered, accurately and in a timely fashion. So you will have to have something in place in case you get sick or go on vacation, or your computer goes down. You will have to choose a file transfer system. You will have to have QA in place. You will have to have the ability to walk into a physician's office, know what data you need to make a proposal, then go home and put something together that has every step covered. You will need to anticipate problems and be ready to solve them (trouble shooting is a must). You will have to have an idea of what is going on in your field, what the going rate is, and how to use variables to your advantage. By that I mean, as above, things like don't print for the doctors! You don't get paid for any line you print, just the ones you type! Let the office secretary do that. She is paid by the hour, not you.

You will have to be ready to get the work done, no matter what, with no excuses and no compromising quality. And you will have to be resourceful and flexible to deal with things that come up.

That being said, it's a bunch of fun to run your own business

I'm sorry. I did not mean to make matters
I'm afraid that I am confused by your situation . . . the sound card is necessary for any computer to play any sound, as far as I know, but I do not work in/on any platform and am not familiar with any of them. I download files from an FTP site and then play them in either the free Express Scribe software that I mentioned or the Olympus software that I purchased. I figured you had a .wav or .dss file that you were needing to play.
And the platform matters
You can do more lines in long Word documents than you can individual reports on a platform (IMHO of course)
In neuro, it matters a lot...
It affects how they interpret the results of tests - not just lab tests, but reflexes, maneuvers, etc. Every neurologist and neurosurgeon will indicate this in their consults and HPs.
They are listed in BOS, as if that matters.

Ability to get job is what matters most
Yes,Andrews and M-Tec are more expensive than a CC, but if you want to work from home, the companies that are looking to hire you don't know if your CC program is adequate. Some are, some aren't, and there are lots of them around the country. The companies know that if you successfully completed Andrews or M-TEC, you are likely to succeed. There are so many posts on these boards from newbies who can't find jobs, yet M-TEC and Andrews grads get hired. I was hired fresh out of school by a large national, worked there 3 years, and was just hired by a smaller MTSO. Getting both jobs was a breeze. I have never had to test for a job. Both companies told me they hired me because I am an M-TEC grad, and they did not feel testing was necessary.
geography matters too!
I think where you live/work plays a lot into that. I live in a very large metropolitan area and our pay in-house is higher than that for sure. If you check AHIMA's salary survey for 2007, the median salary for MTs nationwide is about $36,000, which is roughly $18 per hour. Again, this will depend on your area. When I taught MT a couple of years ago we told our students not to consider anything under $13 to $14, and that was for our new grads. With experience here you would be starting at a minimum of $16 or $17 per hour.
I don't think it matters if IC or employee
If it is an assigned account, the Transcriptionist assigned to those docs gets all that docs dictations. You get to learn the docs verbalizations, whether ESL or not, and eventually can pretty much anticipate what is to be said next. The account manager does not just assign certain dictations, but all of the dictations from one doc. In other words, you are assigned doctors, not just dictations. To me, that is the fairest way to do anything. I hate these "pools" of work where just anybody can log on and learn the system and how to get around it, and only do the "good jobs." It only breeds selfishness, anger, and resentment. Trust me, the work does not get done any faster, and quality is out the window because everybody is rushing, trying to get more work before someone else takes it all. Again, just my opinion.
Idk if it matters, but I use version 8....
It is at the top next to Tools, Edit, File, etc., just like it is in Word. I just Click on "Stedmans", then click "Enable" and its up. Same as I do in Word.
If there's any question on my knowledge in these matters,

I am a college educated and certified computer technician who has been in the technology field for 20 years now.  FWIW, Atomic Clock Sync has rave reviews from PC Magazine, but merely synchronizing your computer clock doesn't fix the underlying problem.  If the battery on your computer's motherboard goes completely dead, your CMOS settings will go byebye, which is a royal PITA to fix.

Instant Text matters
Is Instant Text better than the others and how much of a difference does it make in my production from what I have been using? amj
that one only works with mono, if it matters

I don't think it matters. They're not always truthful.
I asked several questions that they answered in an unhonest way. For instance, I asked if they were flexible with the hours or rigid. They said flexible. Right from the start were threatening emails about WORKING YOUR SCHEDULED HOURS! I think you get much better information on these boards than you do from a recruiter.
All this talk about size-matters!
I'm an 18-inch gal myself.  I adore my little flat panel...if only for the fact that it doesn't take up hardly any space on my already dinky desk here.  My husband is a freak and has 2 flat panels next to each other and is always doing weird things with them.  They have come down so much in price these past few years it's not even funny.  I highly recommend scoring one!
I wore one, but by all means DO WHAT YOU WANT! Your comfort is what matters.:-) nm

Is endocrinology too hard for a for a newbie to start in? I went to M-TEC if that matters.
.
Accreditation matters. It helps to avoid scams, but not always. sm
Pick a good school.  It is extremely difficult to get hired immediately, even when graduating from an accredited school.  It is a hard row to hoe.  Most companies require at least 2, usually 5 years of time on the job.  They just don't have time to train new MTs.
Do y'all think the size of the font matters in line counts?
If your font is smaller takes more characters to make a line?  I just wondered this today.
In all due respect, I have more pressing matters to worry about them my dietary supplement freedoms.
I gathered from scanning that long article that they are looking for some regulatory commission on ingredients, along with cautionary labels, etc.  I am ALL FOR THAT, as I am one of the many humans who is very allergic/sensitive/intolerant to herbal remedies, vitamins, and "dietary supplements" - wrong stuff and I could die.  So I'm not concerned - sounds safer for me.
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!!
HEY YUCK - YOU ARE AS BEAUTIFUL AS IT GETS! LOVE YA MAN!
that is beautiful, thank you....
I am going to email this to my best friend who lost her mother a few years ago. This time of year is always hard for her, as is her mother's birthday. Thank you!!
Beautiful here!
Not to brag - but it is mid 80's, blue skies with little puffy clouds and a nice breeze. Of course, we are in the Pacific NW. Love it here - this is why we left the valley!
Beautiful!

Beautiful MT/ad
Well, I clicked on the link and could not get this ad up - so I missed out on the "beautiful MT".  My question here is - are there any really beautiful MTs out there any longer - or are we all overworked, paid too little for our services, expected to do a lot of work that is not connected to the production that we are paid for - and receive little or no benefits or job security.  I can tell you after 15 years, I do not feel very beautiful.  Would like to hear from those who are "beautiful" and if the procedure to get that way was very painful, as I am contemplating some work.
Thanks so much for this beautiful
prayer.  It's exactly what I needed to begin this new day and new year.  God bless us one and all.
If you say I am rich and beautiful...will I be?
z
COLD, 40s, where are you. BEAUTIFUL here in NY.

Can hardly see through the tears here...that was beyond beautiful!!!

Bless you and your wonderful family.  What else can I say but...

Peace...out.

Beautiful out today...
Hey RadGuy, hopefully you are out somewhere enjoying the beautiful day here in Lexington.  I just got home from going out with me, myself, and I to Johnny Carino's (Hamburg Place) for a wonderful lunch.  Then I went to Value City Furniture and spent an hour looking around.  I started to go to Office Depot, but I have this thing about computer desks and decided I had better just come on home !!
and it is a beautiful state, but...sm
You ask about attitudes.  This is my opinion.  I lived there for 4 years in the 1970s, got married in Denver in '79.  I found the people somewhat racist against many types of people...maybe that has changed today.  I lived in Georgetown, Dumont, and Denver (Glendale and Capital Hill), worked from Loveland Pass way out west in the Rockies to the Bull 'N Bush in Glendale (very east of Denver) when the Broncos went to the Super Bowl, crossing all walks of life.  I would hope, today, it has changed for the better.  Your Father's Moustache Band was around then and still around today.
Same here, beautiful here in VA 60-70 last 3 days - sm
today we are supposed to get rain and snow, yuk, and back to the cold weather to boot!
Your kitty is beautiful!!! (nm)

Outside weddings can be beautiful...
Don't underestimate this. I had a friend who had a casual wedding (she was not barefoot) but the guys wore blue shirts with khaki pants in a park-like setting with the creek traveling by it. Cut-offs would have been extremely out of place there. Slacks and a casual top would have been okay but I think the best choice is a dress (not exceedingly dressy) and sandles. My experience - one of the prettiest weddings I have ever been to.
Sounds Beautiful
Patti that sounds just wonderful. I'd love to live somewhere like that. I sounds so peaceful and relaxing.
Yes...trust her. It's beautiful! NM

maybe...(beautiful thoughts) SM
Maybe... we are supposed to meet the wrong people before meeting the right one so when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.

Maybe... when the door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the new one which opened for us.

Maybe... It is true that we don't know what we have until we lose it, but it is also true that we don't know what we have been missing until it arrives.

Maybe... The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything they have.

Maybe... You should dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you dream of and want to do.

Maybe... There are moments in life when you miss someone – a parent, a spouse, a friend, a child – so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real.

Maybe... The best kind of friend is one you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word...but when they walk away you feel as if it was the best conversation you've ever had.
< br> Maybe... You should always try to put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that something could hurt you, it probably will hurt the other person, too.

Maybe... You should do something nice for someone every single day, even if it is simply to leave them alone.

Maybe… Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they will love you back. Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart; but, if it doesn't, be content that it grew in yours.

Maybe.. You shouldn't go for looks; they can deceive; Don't go for wealth; even that fades. Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile.

Wow..beautiful messages...THANK YOU EVERYONE!

I really appreciate you all taking the time to give me some insight.  I'm going to hang in there.  The one poster was right--I do have PTSD from my old job who stressed me continously about firing me!  Sigh..that was a horrible experience and I'm still burned from that.  I had never gone through anything like that before.  Every job I've ever had, I excelled with it. Well again, THANK YOU!
