It's a stimulant

I can barely work without caffeine and usually feel fairly depressed and unmotivated until I have had some.
The brain is a mysterious thing. Once in a great while I have a day or two where I feel, what I think should be, normal. Otherwise, I have to fire things up with some caffeine.
Looking at the popularity of coffee and other similar drinks, I think most people have some dependence on it. Plus, people who smoke are getting double-whammied with the nicotine!
I swear, sometimes my brain feels like it's only functioning at about 1/4 without it!

Coffee is a stimulant. My oldest was diagnosed with
severe ADHD. Meds didn't work and made his heart race to the point that he was very uncomfortable. He is now 16 and learned coping skills, but he has been off meds since he was 8. I always tells parents of newly diagnosed children to try giving their child coffee or Mountain Dew on a weekend when they have nothing else going on. Sometimes it works, sometimes it makes the kids bouncing balls, which is why you don't want to have any other plans that day.
The drugs are so bad if you can come up with an alternative it would be so much better. The nurse at our doctor's office told me to take a pill one time to see what my child was experiencing and it was not pleasant.
ginseng is a natural stimulant. Try some herbal teas
However, there is hidden caffeine in quite a few places, so read your labels. You can either wean yourself off the coffee or go cold turkey, but be prepared for a headache and foggy feeling for a few days. Take an OTC anti-inflammatory for the headache.
I also wonder what's wrong with one cup of coffee per day? I did the half caff mixture for a while, too, until I decided that I could have one habit in my life. I can live without everything else, but I'm going to have my coffee. I don't have candy bars or cola any more. I cut out sugar. I can live without smoking or alcohol. Darnit, I want my coffee!!! LOL
