Isn't it sad that....

schools are not willing to provide tutoring for those that just need a little help? Instead they will help them AFTER they have already flunked. It's just sad to me. No wonder our schools in this country are in such a terrible state of affairs. I have a second grader myself. He is reading on a fourth grade level, but has a lot of difficulty with his handwriting. I have worked with him as much as I can at home, but he still struggles. Also, the fact that I am left-handed and he is right-handed does cause a bit of a problem. I still help him and work with him on a nightly basis, but when I spoke with his teacher about it she told me that it doesn't make a difference what hand you write with. "That's no excuse" were her words (nice, huh). I told her that maybe if she were left-handed she would understand that it does make a difference when you are working one-on-one with a child instead of just writing on a blackboard all day. I asked the school about tutoring him in his handwriting skills (he does well in everything else) and they told me they couldn't provide that because he was making good grades and he wasn't learning disabled. It's just sad.
