Any good ideas where to look. Job Bank and Resume bank not working.
I think they must be waiting for a tech for repairs.
Routing of work... sm
Currently working for a small national. I'm curious as to how other companies route the dictation to the MTs. For example, are you expected to transcribe pretty much all the dictation (300 providers/teaching hospital & clinic), or do you have certain specialties you transcribe, or just a certain amount of providers? Do you do only acute-care work or only clinic work? Of course, every provider and/or specialty has their own set of rules to follow, thus making it difficult to be productive when constantly researching the rules. TIA!
Routing or reserving, agree with you MQ
It's the coordinators in my office who do the reserving of jobs, again for a various of reasons. Some tell me they are not allowed to, only the TC can, but then others just go ahead and do it, NONE are MT's, just "customer service coordinators"...the one on 2nd shift in my office is a college student, who has nooooooooo clue about anything to do with MT'ng
Routing isn't cherry picking. :)
Routing is business...it all has to get done, the good, the bad, the ugly.
I'm not worried about getting the bad reports, either.
Sooner or later, you'll be out of a job and I won't because I can REALLY do the work. I've already seen that happen. I usually get rewarded for my extra effort as well...a few particular jobs or dictators if I do some really ugly ones. Is that cherry picking? I don't think so. It's called business. It's called getting a reward for doing something that others cannot. It's why I'm given a little leeway. :)
Happy typing.
Yep, I agree. I think EMR really will probably more of a danger to us
nm
The danger of outsourcing
My brother recently put in an order with a well-known computer company for two laptops with all the bells and whistles. Something came up and he needed at least one of them ASAP. He called to see if he couldn't get at least one of them in a couple of days and got someone from God knows where who told him the order had been cancelled. When he inquired as to why, the person then proceeded to tell him that it was because he was trying to "commit a fraud" - direct quote from the customer support person. He went up to the next level, got the run around from another ESL person and finally got with an English-spearing person. When he applied for his credit application with this two-initial company, they approved him and then did a seconary check on his employment. He is a union electrician and works out of a union hall. Duhhhhhh. The first person said he was not employed by the union hall and accused him of attempted fraud and cancelled the application and the production of his computers. Of course, he is not employed by the union hall - he works OUT of the union hall and probably has enough pocket change to pay her yearly salary and that of the rest of her family for the next year. I know - because I happen to know he is a tightwad. After all, he's my brother. What I love best, is that his wife works for a mega law firm and he actually threatened them with a law suit for slander and had everyone wallowing and apologizing. I myself have now started telling ESLs I do not want to talk to them I can't understand them and want to speak to an English person after someone at Bellsouth called me to pay my phone bill 3 days before it was due and there was no past due balance involved. I've had it with these compaines and I will NOT put up with these people any longer. This is the US, get with it or stay in your country and learn English before you get over here or stay there and learn it or whatever just learn the darn language before you start telling me about what you want or expect. There, I feel better.
if the discrepancies are a danger sm
to patient care then I would put a note on it questioning and send it to QA. Let them take the responsibility for finding out what is going on. Personally I just couldn't let it go if it was something that is dangerous to a patient.
cherry-picked routing to VR and offshore
Ethical to route the work in a systematic way according to the documented processes of your company. Unethical to route work "as you see fit" if "as you see fit" is defined based on who you like and who you don't, as you described above. Tired of hearing the complaining? Get over it and get used to it, because it isn't going to stop and it is only going to get worse.
On what basis to you know that the "paranoid" plotting and speculation about dictation being cherry picked to go to India or VR is unfounded? I notice the natural variation in who is dictating, etc., the true "roll of the dice" as you describe it, and that doesn't bother me.
It isn't that it "has" to be more than just fate. It is more than just fate.
VR and offshore transcriptionists can't handle the tough dictation, yet we know they are being used. Do you think what is being routed to VR and offshore is random, the luck of the draw? I don't.
So I don't know why I shouldn't suspect that if on the average, in an ongoing trend, dictation is getting worse for domestic transcriptionists to a degree that could not be a cooincidence, it means that for reasons other than coincidence, easier work is being routed somewhere else.
I can tell you are comfortable with "the way things have always been," and change makes you nervous, but get used to the fact that whether it has always been this way or not, it is not going to continue to be that way.
Get used to the ideas of MTs standing up for their rights and fighting back or quit reading the complaints and type away in your happy, sheltered world. The status quo is not going to continue.
I realize that. I have read all about the danger
of Accutane, the side effects, the horror stories. I know all the warnings about it. That's why I'm asking personal experiences of people who have actually used it. I realize there's a big risk in taking it. I also know some people have been helped tremendously by it. I'm just asking about personal experience with it because I really don't know what to do at this point since nothing else has worked and we really have tried just about everything, other than a chemical peel. I think if I take him to another dermatologist they may suggest Accutane and I just wanted to hear experiences of people who have actually used it.
My husband is in danger of losing his job so he is learning to transcribe.
He is trying his hardest and since I work full-time at a local hospital and he is doing my part-time work at home, it helps me out tremendously. With the economy being the way it is we all are making sacrifices. I truly think some people are just venting their frustrations as we all need to do sometimes. I love my job but sometimes I curse my job. I don't give too much credit to those who are always badmouthing their professions as they are the ones that chose them and hey...if you were working more instead of posting messages, you would make more money.....there's a thought for ya.
Federal ID #
If there is a "mother company" that is overall all the smaller companies sometimes the ID could be the same -- I think. My husband drove a truck for Dalles Mavis that was owned by Active Transportation that all has other comanies. All of hs W2 forms, etc. came from Active with their ID number on it though he worked directly for Dallas-Mavis. Even when he moved to Texas and worked there instead of Oregon, his W2's all came from Active.
They won't be saving anything since if you made $5000 from Company B and they deduct it from Company A, they will be paying taxes more taxes from Company B and less from Company A but again, if there is a corporation over all of the companies, it will all be merged in together to pay taxes on the "profit" from the corporation. Just like being married, your husband can over withold and pay for your taxes because you merge your income together. Just hopefully be requesting that they issue you another 1099 that they don't send both into the IRS and so the IRS thinks you made $10,000 and not $5,000.
There is no such federal law! :)
Every employer has the right to answer questions about former employees. Most prefer to not go into too many details. Asking whether or not an employee is eligible for rehire is a very common question.
We did this. We went through HUD or some federal program
that loaned us the closing costs and down payment on a second mortgage. It was paid off within five years.
They were federal charges
go to a halfway house first, but I thought surely that the prison could tell me something, if that was the case?! They just said he was out of custody and that's all they could tell me. Thanks for the encouragement...it's appreciated!
You pay taxes to the Federal gov't, among others.
The question should not be about what taxes you pay and who gets the money. How governmental entities distribute the money is for them to worry about, not you. As an IC, you will have deductions available to you that are not available as an employee.
Only YOU can determine if the responsibility of being an IC is for you. There is so much more to IC status than taxes. My suggestion is to read up on what is involved in self-employment by checking out a book on entreprenurship from the library or do some reading on the Web. My guess is that you're not ready for this yet but you can be if you do your homework.
Is there federal money available
It occurred to me that it may be something we mention when writing/calling our government.
I know that when Levi Strauss closed their factory in Roswell, NM, and sent it down to Mexico (thanks, NAFTA), they gave their workers money to retrain in a new profession.
Surely this is something that can be fought for. We know darned well the MTSO's won't take money out of their own pocket to do this, but there was/is a government program called TAA which is supposed to help people who have lost work as a result of imports. I think a case can be made for medical records transcribed overseas as qualifying as "imports".
I found an old document on line at http://www.edd.ca.gov/pdf_pub_ctr/de8714x.pdf which describes that 3 or more workers who have been affected by imports can petition for federal money for assistance and retraining. There's also JTPA/WIA which established one-stop career centers and I believe being laid off because of work being sent offshore (or just laid off, period) would qualify people for this program.
There's also this article, which I included a part of, that is talking about IT workers for Computer Sciences Corp (my brother happens to work for them and has survived the layoffs) filing suit....
*The department has long held that programmers who've lost jobs to cheaper, foreign workers aren't eligible for the TAA program because their employers, or employer's customers, are not importing a physical good in the same way as, say, steel manufacturers. A number of federal and state lawmakers have introduced bills that would automatically grant eligibility under the act to IT workers and other white collar professionals, but none has become law.
The labor department initially said that although CSC moved production of its Vantage-One insurance software from East Hartford to CSC India, the software was not an imported "article" as defined by the act. In a lawsuit, the workers asked the U.S. Court of International Trade to overturn the department's ruling. In January, trade court judge Nicholas Tsoucalas ordered the department to revisit the case, noting that, "Labor's interpretation of the law, that software code must be embodied on a physical medium to be an article under the Trade Act, is arbitrary and capricious."
In a Federal Register note published April 11, the Labor Department conceded the point and ruled that the four CSC workers would be eligible to apply for TAA assistance. In ruling, the department said it would henceforth look upon software, whether shipped into the U.S. on a disc or transmitted into the country via telecommunications networks, as a physical product.
Software and similar intangible goods that would have been considered articles for the purposes of the Trade Act if embodied in a physical medium will now be considered articles regardless of their method of transfer," the department wrote.*
Something to think about.
Also, I'm pretty sure we've been far OVERestimating how much money offshore people are paid for transcription. Their companies might get 1 cent a line after it goes through 3 or 4 edits, but I'm pretty sure the person typing the report and mangling the English is paid more like 1/5 cent per line, which is still pretty good money for them. My math is based on there being 40 rupees to a dollar, and 1/40 of 8 cents per line is 1/5 cent. There was that article quoted on the company board from Manilla where they were gloating that their workers got $1 to $2 an hour and, if they're required to transcribe 1200 lines a day, that comes to 1/10 cent per line. But that was back in 2005.
Back to the 1/5 cent. So if the report goes through 3 or 4 edits, each getting paid their 1/5, then the Indian company keeps the 2 cents per line which is left over and our dear old MTSO here in the States charges the hospital what...11 cents?..pays our US MT 3 or 4 cents to edit. So, 3 cents/line to the offshore company, 4 cents/line to our US editor, and the MTSO still pockets the 4 cents/line left over? Why do you think we're seeing 7 cents/line more and more often as the going rate of pay?
Well, just some things to think about - I get my best ideas late, late at night!
Thanks for sharing this. If federal guidelines were followed,
the minimum wage earner could not even shop at Walmart---that's really sad! This is just another point that shows that the government has obviously gotten too big for its people, $5.15 is a JOKE. I'm glad some states actually have some sort of caring politicians.
Federal Govt program (sm)
I am going to ask my tax person about this. I am currently working for a company as an IC, but now I'm thinking it should actually be called SE status, since they withhold, what looks like, about 7% of my income for OASDI and medicare. I also worked for MQ as an SE and they took out FICA, so I think I'm okay for now. However, if I switch jobs, I will need to make sure this is taken care.
I don't think FEDERAL varies whereas state...sm
I think states set their own regulations but I do believe that Federal is all one set of rules/regulations. The police might be able to tell you but I think you'd find out so much more via the internet if you know what state he is in. I found someone in jail recently. I put in her name and she is locked up and probably going to get the books slammed at her. Very young nonthinking girl too.
All states and even federales have websites. You can type in INMATE information and then the state and all kinds of links will come up. You can probably this way find his name at some institution and if paroled, call the institution he was paroled from and find out more details if possible.
BEST of luck on this!!! The internet is great for finding even old friends (I found several 30+ years after being in contact).
Question for ICs about SS and federal tax. I am new at this and I am wondering if you can pay
your federal tax and SS more often than quarterly so it doesnt turn out to be so much money. I would pay the State and Local quarterly but would like to pay the fed more often. Anybody do this or just file quarterly.
Can anyone that is an IC tell me when you send in your quarterly Federal and SS is there anywhere
you can check to make sure your money had been credit properly to your account to avoid problems at the end of the year.
HIPAA is a federal law, not State.
I could be wrong but I don't think you need to get the office to sign anything. You just need to be HIPAA compliant on your end. Double check on this though.
Marie, what type of federal job, is this still medical? nm

Section 8 housing. It's a federal program through HUD.
Google it "Section 8" housing to verify.
Probably 2 weeks and if i recall it will be on a Friday for Federal.
xx
I agree with "Snow Bunny" Federal govt. sm
Everyone new that New Orleans was pooooooooooooooooooooor
With state and Federal, you 40% of your earnings GO, bottom line.
I don't know what's up for debate, it's fact.
Housing prices have gone up 40% in the past year alone in California.
The federal gov't is urging paperless MR to save costs.
dd
you're right, it's federal but diff for each state...see link...sm

ALL STATES PAY MINIMUM WAGE DIFFERENTLY - i.e., Arizona says *No state minimum wage law.*
Here's how foster-to-adopt works on the federal level...sm
All non-Caucasian over age 1 automatically get adoption assistance. All Caucasian kids over age 8 get adoption assistance. If you adopt a sibling group that is more than 2 kids you get adoption assistance. All special needs children qualify for adoption assistance. Adoption assistance usually means Medicaid until they're 18 and in a lot of cases the monthly per diem rate is paid to the adoptive family. For the special needs kids, sibling groups and non-white children that meet the adoption assistance criteria generally the fees for adoption are reimbursed up to $2000 - which is pretty much what all of the attorneys charge for these adoptions since Child Protective Services/DFCS does the majority of the paperwork.
We're currently in the process of adopting our 6-year-old foster child who has lived with me since she was almost 5. The adoption should be finalized in January after my husband meets the 6 months residency requirement (we got married in June and he moved here from another state at that time).
Social security is part of Federal taxes
Your SS is figured in on your schedule C -- after your deductions you pay on your net income and that is added to your federal taxes and you send in one check and pay it all. You can do quarterly if you do not have a husband to over withold from or if you are not an employee on another job. Social Security and Federal taxes are not two entities -- but one.

Wow what bank
did your son use?
I recently had my debit card number stolen when I was visiting in Toronto. My bank's fraud department called me within a day of the fraudulent charges. They had already denied 2 of them, and the one that did go through I was refunded every dime of. I guess I have a pretty good bank! (Wells Fargo).
The cop that I talked to when I filed a report said that they have one guy who does nothing but take the fraud calls every day, that is how many there are now. One poor little old lady had her entire account cleaned out, and on top of that the people somehow managed to SELL her HOUSE out from under her. I don't know exactly how they did that but she was not able to get it back, she was pretty much SOL. I guess it makes good sense to check to see how your bank deals with fraud and what the policy is on giving you back your money.
Also his advice was to get a shredder, and the kind that shreds both ways, and he told me that he even blocked out his address on his car registration. He says he never has anything in his car that has any personal info like that on it. I thought that was interesting and did not even know that was okay to do. But I guess if a cop is doing it it must be!
just called the bank and
Sure it is SS that is late and not your bank? They have to
build deposit files and it may be the banking system having problems.
Just trying to help.
Since your a former bank manager- how can I get
my credit score up? My husband and I want to buy a house with no down payment and the lender said that we need to get our credit score up 18 points to do this. How? He mentioned paying our credit cards down to almost a zero balance. What else can we do? And how fast could we do it?
Resume Bank.
http://resumes.mtstars.com
Hey former bank manager, what
does the "came way" mean? Is that a banking term?
Smile all the way to the bank!
nm
I would. My son got his job at the bank he believes by
hope it didn't get cut off.
If you bank with Wachovia they have/are
sending 400 call center jobs to India, which also means they have access to your financial information. I use a local credit union, but have a home equity loan with Wachovia and with that they gave us, checking, savings, credit, debit accounts. I have closed all but the home equity account so far and told them why. I'm currently in the process of shopping rates to open a new home equity loan too.
No telling how many more banks/credit card companies are doing the same.
Talk to your bank
With DD, your bank statement is proof that the company paid you or not. With checks or prepaid credit cards, if it's lost in the mail YOU have no proof it wasn't sent. If it gets screwed up in adding it to the card, YOU have no proof the MTSO is at fault and you have to fight with Visa.
The MTSO is correct in refusing to tell you which other MTs get Visa--they have a right to privacy.
The main problem I can see with Visa is that it's just inappropriate. You'll be forced to spend every penny you earn AND spend it at an establishment that takes Visa. How do you plan on saving? How do you plan to pay your insurance and other expenses? What if your children need $10 for school?
You also may be subjected to fees and/or expiration of the funds on the card.
Why don't you talk to your bank about the safety of direct deposit? Perhaps if they can calm any unfounded fears you have, you can be paid in a more appropriate manner.
Bank jobs
I have a good friend who is a bank branch manager. Tellers, etc. are entry level. She just hired my hairdresser!!!! Don't know about where you live but I think most bank jobs are entry level in the smaller banks at least.
I figure income minus expenses, send 23% for federal and 7.5% to state--sm
quarterly. The state probably differs state to state, but that is the percentile my accountant came up with. Have never had to pay and additional.
I agree w/you, bank manager...
God is not a vindictive (sp?) God, He is a kind and loving God. This hurricane is simply nature, and nothing more, I'm sure...Would you bring your wrath down so hard on your own children for something they did that was wrong? Well, that's how God feels about us...His children, everyone of us. Even those who fight so hard to have Him removed from our lives...we are extremely blessed that God is so wonderful!
Put it in the bank. 100 years of interest. Just think!
Give me a break!
I needed a good laugh, thanks for posting. Trust me, I'm only laughing at the sheer stupidity of issuing a check for one cent. You can't even rebel and send it back to them because you'd be out 36 cents.
Maybe you should frame it and label it, "My Big Bonus."
because the person used to be a bank manager
nm
I didn't think former bank managers
made any mistakes.
Take the money from your own bank account
I agree..The things *she* donates are from manufacturers that get a plug on her show or from the people who watch her show and donate to her Angel Network. Even when she donated cars, the people who got them had to pay the tax and registration on the cars, which came to a few thousand dollars each. These people could not even afford to buy new cars and they are gonna come up with a few thousand for taxes, etc.? Oprah is out of touch with the real world. I think Stedman Graham said it best on one of her shows, he told Oprah she was not nice. She seemed shocked and asked well, who is nice and he said Gayle King, her best friend. Oprah is pompous and acts like she thinks she is smarter and better than others..She isnt in my book. Come on, Oprah, how much of your billions are you gonna spend in your life time? Dont take the money from the public who watch your show..take it from your own bank account.
If you make enough of a fuss at your bank they
can, and will, release the funds back to you immediately. We bank at Commerce, and have had so many flubs with our debit card that we have 2 separate accounts - one just for the debit card with a limited balance in case it ever gets hit. But we have had lots of errors - ebay once hit the card for one of those burps at 1 cent for about a zillion times - other errors just like above, and I was told, too, that it had to take 3 days to release the hold. When I flipped out over it, it got released immediately. After all, it is our bank and we are the customer, right? Stick to your guns and you'll get your $$ instantly, if a mistake has been made that is verifiable.
Go to your bank or credit union and they can help
you set it up. What you claim depends on how you setup the account. You can claim $$ this year provided it is paid in by 4/15 and get taxed when you take out, or you can put in after taxes and not get taxed when taking out.
