Is their platform user friendly, or does it depend on the account?

One week of working on a new platform and I do not feel it is user-friendly
Editing itself is not bad. It is the documentation of the changes I made, I think for purposes of feedback to MT, which I have to do on Word (outside of the platform) that is driving me crazy and is eating up a lot of time. I do not think I am being productive. I am paid an hourly rate but I am almost embarrassed with my production. I think doing QA without going the through the MTing using the same platform presents a lot of difficulty. Is it too early to decide whether this is a good fit for me?
Has anyone used IntraScript or I-Scriptor as a platform? User-friendly, productive? Any comments?
xx
I have WP 10 and I like it. User friendly. sm

I've used MS Word too, but there really isn't that much difference and its easy to learn.

Very user friendly
Although I was a newbie at the time, after finishing a MT course, they first had me on Dictaphone and then trained us on Escription/Edit Script. It was much, much easier than Dictaphone and any MT with experience would find it very easy to use. There really is not that much training needed---just to learn the commands, which is included in the tutorial. It really is a great platform.
How user friendly is it really?
nm
It is very user friendly...
...I think you'll like it.  Good luck!
Yep, VERY user friendly...
You'll be up and running into no time. :-)
I don't think it is very user friendly - sm
I used it for a day I think and then quit, hated it. Too many steps up to actually working and it was just a pain in the butt to use. There are many platforms that are much better than EMDAT.
very user friendly, productive ...
i was disappointed my lines didn't increase more dramatically over old system -- but there was an increase. I like it well enough i hope i never have to use another system. Maybe the 'decrease' in lines others report is due to messing around on the internet instead of working, as 2 minutes here and there really can add up...
software that is user friendly (sm)
I'm not sure of the difference between software and a platform, but I just want to work for a company whose program is easy to work on, not a lot of glitches, freezes, server problems, etc. etc.  That defeats the whole purpose of what we were hired to do - TRANSCRIBE.  Also when there is a problem, it would be nice to have someone be able to help you quickly.
Is ExSpeech user friendly?
Can you make good lines on Dictaphone ExSpeech voice recognition?
Which platforms do you find to be the most user friendly . . . sm
and allow you to be more productive?  Your input is greatly appreciated!
Invoice program - user friendly
I currently use Abacus for line counting. I need a separate program for line counting and hourly work that is very user friendly. Any advice?
The newest version is VERY user friendly. The one right before
it stunk. Make sure you're getting to work on one that has the very newest version that came out this fall.
I love BeyondText. User friendly
are pulled in with a simple search.  I was making my minimum line counts by the end of the first week.
I have tried both. Smartype is user friendly, easy to learn. I'd use it again.

VR program. Very user-friendly and easy to learn.

Is ExText user friendly? Can you make good lines?

I will be using a foot pedal - ? Transnet.

I'm using Meditech Magic now and I can't imagine anything being worse.

Is the em dat (?) program user friendly - can you make lines - complicated to learn?nm

That would certainly depend on the VR platform sm
I currently edit 600-700 lines per hour accurately on EditScript; however, I can not nearly do as many lines editing using Dictaphone's VR program. There are so many variables that it makes it difficult to put a "average number" out there.

I can tell you, that paying 3 cpl for editing is an insult to the qualified and experienced MT/Editor with years and years of experience.

I guess it would depend on the platform. I get .0692 cpl at WMX. nm

No, but it may depend upon account
No, I don't think so. I just got a job offer, and I can only work with satellite Internet. I have no land line; therefore, I cannot do Dictaphone C-phone or Lanier accounts. I only have cell phones. MDI-MD does not (yet) have many accounts that can be accessed as WAV-file accounts, and what they have seem to be heavily (i.e., 60-75% ESL!).

So to answer your question, I don't think MDI-MD specifically requires you to have unlimited long distance any more, but if you have it, you may be able to get better accounts.

If long distance charges are an issue, have you looked into Vonage or other Internet phone solutions? Your ISP has to have fast enough speed to do it, and right now our satellite speed is just under what will work well. But if you have fast enough speed, check into it. It's a flat rate every month, and I think it's now down to $29.99 for unlimited. If you have a friend who has it, ask them about it, and they can tell you. Also, they will get a referral fee (a month free or something) for referring you.

Hope this helps!
It does depend on the account.

I've worked Escription on 3 different accounts and all 3 are very different.  I am impressed at how well the Escript picks up on reports and follows most account specifics.  It all depends on the accuracy of the Transcriptionist as the program learns the reports and specs.  If it learns it correctly, it will continue to spit it out correctly.  If you have lots of account spec mistakes coming from the transcriptionist or different transcriptionists are not being consistent, then you'll have problems with the VR.

Of my 3 accounts, one is awesome.  I easily make over 600 edited lines an hour and that is including taking a short break to walk around, refill my drink and use the bathroom.  Average reports are between 50-70 lines each, all AC.  The other one (which didn't last long) was averaging about 280-320 lines an hour and I did everything the same, all clinic and a waste of my time. The next one is also all basic 4 and I average around 400 with it being a new account and I know there is room for improvement and a lot of accout spec mistakes, which I blame on the other transcriptionist on the account, not VR.

You can make decent money on using VR by practicing you shortcuts, save expansions on the most common mistakes (one of mine being that the VR never picks up "10 point review of systems", etc, especially practice the punctuation shortcuts and the alk K and shift alt K.

Don't give up on it.  If anything, give another account a try.

Turn User Account Control to OFF. nm

Try turning off the User Account Control. nm

Turn off User Account Control in Vista
And Express Scribe will work, at least the latest version will.

Also--last time I was at the ExpressScribe forum they stated that the Welcome message won't play, so try another file before assuming it doesn't work.
Try turning off User Account Control in Vista. (nm)

Yes, but had to disable User Account Control in Vista. nm

MTSO with platform versus no platform (big message)

If a MTSO advertises that the MT works in MS Word and sends dictation by FTP, does this usually mean there will be no demographic/doctor database and the demographics will not be autopopulated?

I got into a mess with a small company (got out real quickly too).  I was required to print out daily email copies of the doctors' office patient schedules (which were barely legible) and type in all information.  I spent more time hunting for the correct patient through pages and pages of these schedules.  Then I had about 25 pages worth of doctor's names that I would have to go through to find the attending, referring, etc.  A total waste of time as I didn’t get paid for that.

I wish MTSO would give more information as to what platform they use (if any).  Proprietary software is such a generic, totally useless description.  Would they buy a new car that listed, "Car has gasoline operated motor?"

And for Pete's sakes, why so secretive about the pay?  Give a ballpark figure.  Just say, pay is between 7-12 cpl depending on skill, testing, etc. Tell me if you pay for spaces, headers, etc.  It would save them time because I wouldn’t even apply for a 7 cpl job.

Before I spend an hour or two testing, I need more information from a company to be sure it is compatible for my needs.  If the MTSO would spend a little time on their website detailing their platform, how they send/receive files, pay rates,  how line rate is determined (spaces/no spaces) employee/IC/SE status, minimal line count, whether work pools consist of 100s of doctors, or smaller pools with 25-50 doctors etc.   Having all this information on their website would save them time and the MTs time.   Phoenix Medcom has a really good layout describing pretty much everything an MT would want to know before testing with them.  I am just tired of testing with a company and then finding out the job wasn’t exactly suited to my needs.

Platform versus non-platform (templates)?

I've been working for MTSOs for years now, using their templates which sometimes cause productivity problems (macro issues, etc). I'm wondering if productivity is increased when working on a structured platform, such as one that a national company provides for its transcriptionists?  I've never used a platform, but it would seem that all one needs to do is straight type onto the screen and the platform program takes care of margins, page breaks, etc?

Any thoughts (as well as companies who are hiring who use platforms) would be appreciated.  Thanks

Is it kid friendly?
x
pet friendly
I for one can identify with you.  Leaving my simon at home would be like leaving a kid at home!  For the last eight years we have planned most of our vacations around our dog.   I have found some of the greatest ones were groups of cabins on the lake (I am in Texas, so we have gone to tennessee, arkansas, etc) but I'm sure there are some close to you.  They have group cookouts, hiking, casino nights, soft ball, lots of fun stuff.  You might check something like that.
What is the difference between an acute care account and a multispecialty account??..nm

Friendly HHS contact
I was wondering if anyone had the name and number or E-mail address of a friendly person at the Department of Health and Human Services? I have a couple quick short questions concerning the HIPAA regulations.

Thanks.
Just be sure it is transcription friendly and
it has everything at your fingertips, i.e. doctor roster, automatic demographic fill-in, line cout accessible, one key to send and hopefully automatic download, good spell check, and me personally "could live without my ShortHand abbreviation expander. It works in all windows programs, so therefore I can use it on most all software programs.
My supervisor is very friendly and
personable, however, we have never met in person. We have "known" each other for years since we have both worked out of the same office a long time, he used to be an office employee, recently promoted.
It should depend on the law. sm

It would depend on whether (sm)
the boy had any real driver training.  I had driver education at high school and it was a semester-long class.  I recently moved to a state where one day of watching videos and two days with 3-hr driving sessions constitutes driver training.  All they require after this is for the parents to say they drove 40 hours with them.  I never knew anyone in school who rolled a vehicle and since moving here I've met three teenagers who have!!  These kids all live in town, but rolled the vehicles out on rural roads.  How long has he had his license?  Is he driving a car he bought himself?  What kind of grades does he have?  Who else will he be giving a ride to?  I'd weigh these things out, then make your decision.  One additional thing I would consider is whether your daughter would be the one to say "Stop this car and let me out!"

This might depend...sm
This might depend on whether you are considered an employee or an independent contractor. As an independent contractor, they don't have to pay you if you don't do any work.
Something like that would depend on whatever
your company's policy is. Everyone is different.
That's because they depend on us....sm
....to correct their mistakes in spelling. Lazy suckers!
hometalkcafe.com might have one. Friendly bunch there.

EMDAT InScribe -- not friendly
Terrible platform.
I've never had a problem switching from account to account.
The problem I had was being switched too soon. If I don't get one account spec solidly in my memory with QA feedback on mistakes before starting another, I get confused. The other problem I had with former jobs was inconsistent QA. One person tells you one thing, another person tells you another.

Lately, I don't have a problem with it. Right now, my binder has 8 account specs (some I've never had to use) and I'm picking up a new weekend job for a while. The terminology and report formats stay basically the same. It's just all those little preferences. LOL
it really does depend on your company
All those questions depend on the company you work for.  If I want to get paid for time when there is no qa, then I type.  If I am being paid salary then yes, when there is no qa, I type.  I do not type superfast because my parts are worn down from too many years of production typing and I am unable to produce 250 lines an hour anymore and so I cannot be held to that.  That is why I am in QA in the first place, because I sure could make more money on production transcribing than I do in qa.   None of us can tell you what your company expects though.  So you are kind of SOL about what the facts are, aside from what anecdotal stuff you get from us.  Good luck!
Well, that would depend whether you are Employee or IC.
This is how I see it..

If you are an employee, you would have to finish your 8-hour shift in the shift you agreed upon. You can not stop after 6 and start dinner, etc. You may be able to stop, make dinner etc, and go back and finish your 2 hours if you talk to you supervisor or boss about it and work it out with them; otherwise, you are supposed to complete the full 8 hours in your agreed upon shift.

If you are an IC and meet your production obligation in 4 hours, you can be done for the day and have fulfilled your obligation for the day.

Hope this helps.
I guess it would depend...
on how shallow a person is. My last name, thanks to my husband, is the name of something we used to do to each other in school (involving a wedgie)! Yuck. I accepted it, moved on.
would depend on your age and if you have a family...
there's a ROI ratio that has to be considered. What will med school cost? Don't forget to figure in lost wages while going to school. Don't believe full time med school and part time MT can be combined...but maybe I'm wrong. Also if you have a family, you better think long and hard. You never get your kids' childhood back. It's not like you can schedule them for when it's convenient....Personally, I thought about med school, but did kids instead and boy did I make the right choice!
I say it should depend on the maturity...sm
of the child and their level of responsibility of keeping up with things. My 6-year-old had her ears pierced last summer because she kept asking for several months to do it, but we ended up letting the holes close up because she couldn't keep up with earrings. I even tried the screw-on backs and she lost them in 2 days.

I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 13.
