Applying for job
Why is it when you are applying for a job and you would like to speak to a person to learn the platform, jobs offered, hours, pay rates, etc. you are always told you have to test first? What's up with that? I want information up front before the possibility of wasting my time. I may not want to test and then be offered a job paying 4 cents a line (or day).
Can I ask why? I am considering applying. nm

Have you tried applying in
doctors' offices? If you can realistically say that vocabulary and spelling are strengths for you, where English was a class you breezed through and you read a lot and have a huge vocabulary that can keep up with MDs who may also have PHds, then maybe you would be able to work in an office where MT is a big part of the job. It just isn't always easy to find jobs like that. You'd probably be transcribing from tapes, which can be just fine and give you a little feeling of job security because he may not want to bother with newer technology.
I'd just keep applying
You've only been out for a year. That isn't long. Just keep applying everywhere and something will most likely turn up.
By applying your logic, that would mean that those of you
on this board who hate George Bush actually want to sleep with him? Ewwww!
Does anyone know how to go about applying for a government job?
nm
YES! I'm thinking of applying. nm

Question about applying for a job
I have an IC position at a company and would like to start looking for another company for more work. Should I put my current company on my resume and if not, what would I put as a heading under experience for that company? I should add that the company I work with is my first transcription job, so I've never had to put anything on my resume about previous experience and don't really know how it works. Thanks!
I am leery of applying too, but as far as pay, it
nm
I would like to know to, so I can avoid applying
there. 3 cpl is awful.
Applying for IC positions
I was an employee of a large national for 8-1/2 years. They provided the whole PC and set-up. I've never been an IC. Is there any point in applying for IC jobs if I've never been one? I have a PC with a temp version of Word 2007 and antivirus software, but that's it. No footpedals. TIA.
Have fun applying at McDonald's in a few years!
Thanks for the info. I won't bother applying either. nm
applying at wal-mart..or mickey D's
With all the uncertainty, the other day I was in the customer service dept of Wal-Mart and there was a place to sit and fill out an application and I thought for a second or two, maybe I should apply.I didnt but the way transcription is going, I envision myself working at Wal-Mart or McDonalds soon..
Another question, as far as etiquette when applying for a job... SM
I was thinking about applying with the service that the hospital is outsourcing to and I was wondering say I take the test and get a job offer, is acceptable for me to request that I be placed on my former employer's account and will they honor my request?
They have been handling our over flow for several years and so I'm sure that there are MTs who have been on the account a while. So I guess I was just wondering if they would let me work on an already well established account.
I do about 5200 a week now, but I am not applying myself as well as I could - sm
So once I buckle down I hope to do 8000 week--I goof off way too much. If I did not, I would be done what I do now a lot earlier and also have time to do more (i.e. another 3000 lines a week) if I chose to do it. Discipline is my problem. I do not have a lot of repetitive work either so I don't have that going for me unfortunately, though I am doing macros for phrases like crazy which slows you down some but in the long run pays off. Good luck.
When applying for jobs on board
I am back in the "look for another job" phase of my life which I thought had ended. After several years, I am back in the market though and have responded to ads posted on this message board.
Do you ladies and gentlemen typically include a cover letter stating you situation and stats, equipment, etc?
And, with regard to equipment, if we do not have what is requested but are fully willing and able to purchase it to be able to work for the job being applied for, should we state this? It appears that jobs posted are asking for specific equipment and that is not a problem other than getting it shipped to us. Unless they want us to hit the ground running these days.
Thank you for your time, comrades in arms.
Just start applying with your resume
Even though you've been teaching, that shouldn't matter much especially since it is English! Good luck to you! Just start applying and sending your resume. The companies will give you the information you'll need to get back in the swing of things.
What type jobs are you applying for?
Clinic experience does not equal acute care experience. Need to look at those companies looking for clinic work and then maybe ease your way in with them in speciality areas.
thinking about applying for dr's office position...
and gosh, it's been so long since I've been to an interview...I'm looking for some tips on questions to ask the interviewer. I don't like going to an interview and NOT asking any questions.
Also, I do have the experience they are looking for, although it has been about 8-9 years since I've actually done hands-on back office work...tips on explaining this would be appreciated too!
Last resort is applying at the service the hospital is using.

If I cant get google back, thinking of applying

Does anyone have any experience with TRS Institute- thinking of applying

you don't put your family at risk by taking in strangers. That's just plain foolish. There were over 3300 registered sex offenders in NO. Where are they now. In your community? Perhaps in your house? Good luck.

i have been through some rough times lately and had to apply for some help. there are signs, big signs, all over our offices saying "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE LEGAL TO GET HELP". so we and our government do give them our benefits whether they are legal here or not. now that is messed up. i am helping to support them so they can take away my jobs and i can't even support my kids and yes i get benefits, wow $75 a month in food stamps which lasts not even a week in a household of 6. don't get me wrong, i am thankful for any help at the moment, but i get penalized for trying to work my tail off and still can't survive.
there was recently an article in our local newspaper where one of our local school districts tried to charge $1000 a year for each illegal student enrolled. it was bulked and the illegals got a lawyer to sue for discrimination. the school district merely stated that they had to HIRE extra teachers that could speak the foreign language just to teach these children and were trying to offset some of the expenses. ridicilous!! so again our taxpayers money is paying to educate illegals as well.
Ammonia possibly. But, do have ventilation and do not inhale while applying it!

You have plenty of experience to be an Editor. Start applying everywhere.

If you are applying with nationals, it is kind of luck of the draw I would
suspect. The national I work for did not conduct a background check. I know that some do, and some don't. I guess the severity of your crime would have a lot to do with it, or some companies may have a no tolerance policy altogether. If you are looking at local clinics or hospitals you could try explaining face to face, but I would not try to hide that fact from them as they would not look kindly on it if they were to find out on their own.
JMO, but you are better off just applying directly to a company and skipping them altogether...
they basically try to fit your experience with a company and you can do that yourself...
When applying for an MTSO company....(2 unrelated questions LOL)
Do you just assume they have templates and word expanders? As I was doing my current job (which is now almost completely dried up of work), I realized how good I have it with the word expanders. That is one of the reasons I am so fast! So it is safe to assume they usually offer this kind of thing? I can only imagine they have to, but have never applied to one so dont mean to sound silly. I've been an IC for 10 years!
The other unrelated part is if the company is paying you 7, 8, 9 CPL... what are they likely charging their client? That is just my curiosity getting the best of me.
Thanks
Thinking of applying at Golden Isles Medical Transcription..sm
Would someone with some inside information please email me? I would like to know some particulars about this company before I think of applying for a job. Would be interested in their platform, the type of accounts, their line rate, whether they require weekend work, and anything else you would care to share! Thank you.
Keep applying at jobs is my opinion. Find out where your local hospital transcription is done

I look at the jobs posted and tons of MTs are applying. I am employed but not terribly pleased with
prefer OPs and have done MT work for about 16 years. I have worked for MQ for 11 years for the Univ. of Pa. which they lost and now I am working for a small company in Michigan with just tons and tons of crap work. I would like an IC job with OPs if possible.
Aw come one give her a break. She said she was sorry and is willing to refund. Give her a chance to
do what is right. If she fails to do what is right, then go about this in an adult way and not act like such a child. "you suck" That is so immature.
She is responding to you and you are eating her alive. Why would she put herself out there to be treated like this if she didnt mean it.
I am really astonished at how people can act on here. Would you treat people like this in person? If you do, I cant imagine you having very many friends.
Remember we are all "HUMAN."
A simple google search will give you your answer...I'd give you the answer,
but how would that help you learn to research on your own...and I'm in a rush to get to the next post.
Tell him you'll give him your macros if he'll give you his Lexus, his ski cabin, and (nm)

In reference to rad pay below...
I do both basic 4 and radiology for a small hospital and get paid by the minute of dictation for all. Radiology is a third to half of the dictation I do a day. I am thinking about going to just radiology. Many of you have stated a per page or per report rate, but what is the average per line rate for radiology. Is it different from the basic four dictation rate?
There are only two radiologists at this hospital, both fairly easy to do except one is slow and one is fast, so fast, if I got paid per report, I would make four times what I make now per minute of dictation. The slow one is going to retire soon and I will be stuck with the fast one and a new doctor which I probably will not have a problem with unless he is fast too and I would be making less money.
Thanks for the reference SM
Interesting site! Unfortunately, it states that "today the period always goes within the quotes" so I can't use it as a reference, only as a "the way it used to be."
thanks for the reference nm

THIS is the best reference (sm)
Forget all those books -- they're out of date a year before they're published.
This site automatically indexes biomedical acronyms from Medline.
Try it and tell me whether you aren't ready to throw away all your outdated, useless references!
Reference
I'm a rad MT and have been for about 6 years. The ONLY book I have on my desk is Stedman's Radiology Words. I use it all the time.
I have a reference for you...
Check out About.com and go to the Frugal Living site. There are the vinegar pages that detail all the varied uses. One newsletter talked about a family re-occupying and cleaning up after Katrina and how vinegar saved their home and made it habitable again.
HTH.

Both! I can't do without some of my reference (sm)
that only come in book form and use those religiously, but if I could only buy one form, definitely CD!! Keep in mind, I don't use Stedman's Medical Dictionary CD much but do like their others. I use Dorlands CD that I got cheap and prefer it over the Stedman's CD. Love, love, love the Quick Look Drug Reference CD.
reference
I like drugs.com. You can look by the first letter of the drug.
I use Way in reference.

this is in reference to below...
extremely interesting reading...
from the link: http://www.medrecinst.com/News/News.php?article=1
While documents (transcribed and otherwise) will continue to be predominant in healthcare for some time to come, there is the beginning of a move away from story telling (sentences, paragraphs, reports), which results in documentation that requires searching for and pulling essential data, toward documenting the data directly, and then when documents are needed, using the data to populate consensus-designed templates. Though not initiated in response to this shift from a “documents then data” to a “data then documents” approach, the collaborative work being done by AHDI, AHIMA, and MTIA with HL7 to standardize the most common clinical documents12 will be especially helpful in facilitating the transformation of recorded data into standard formats for H&Ps, consultations, operative reports, etc
How long should I wait after applying for a position before I follow-up. It has been as long as two
without hearing from some. Just wondering if I should send an e-mail to follow-up to see if they received my resume or not. I don't want to offend anyone but feel two weeks should be long enough for someone to at least acknowledge my resume and that I have applied for a position. Right now I would accept anything even a note saying no thanks. Any advice would be appreciated. I haven't had to apply for a job for the past 10 years so I am a bit rusty at this. Thanks again for any advice.
FUTURE REFERENCE
try www.fda.gov in the future, great help for all FDA approved meds
need some reference web pages?

drug reference
I always use Drugs@FDA. I have it in my favorites: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/drugsatfda/
You can look up drug names by using as few as three letters. I find it's quick and efficient, and it's free, and because it's the FDA it's the latest info on drugs.
The reference I handle THE MOST - sm
is my Medical Phrase Index - I happen to use the 4th edition and I mean I use it often. It really comes in handy for mush-mouthed docs and ESL docs.
