Invest in a really good sound card - makes a huge difference

GET A GOOD SOUND CARD.
I was having problems understanding certain doctors. I changed the sound card in my computer and what a difference that made. It spend around 70.00 to do this but my production line count went up and my errors went down. Also, invest in a good pair of head phones. I spent 50.00 on a pair of Sony earbud earphones (noise reduction type) at Best Buy. They are the best of the best. Good luck to you.
Has anyone disconnected the internal sound card and replace with another sound card?
I am having problems with my sound on one of my computers. Several different ExText program have been on it so I don't think it is the program and the sound is just now as clear as on my other computer. Has anyone switched (disconnected the internal sound care and replaced) to a new sound card? Did it make a difference.
Everyone on this board is so knowledgeable, I really appreciate you. You have helped me many times.
Huge difference in my world, maybe not for you.
Think like you want. Sounds like you just want to bicker.
There is a huge difference between expanders and the limits of
autocorrect and autotext that is only available in Word. Take a look at the Instant Text and ShortHand forums on Productivity Talk to see how an Expander can do a lot more for your productivity than just expand text.

I made a card with a nice close-up photo of hers printed oblong-shaped with a red background, a huge
blank space beside the photo for my message written in silver ink, and some pressed tiny flowers to decorate the edges, then I laminated. She was so proud to show it off to her friends. (You might want to use this idea next year, maing sure you press small flowers first, or you can think of other decors).
That's for sure - what a difference it makes.
sssss
does anyone know if it makes any difference....sm
being a statuatory employee, if someone can still garnishee your wages. I know very little about this type of thing. I was threatened with this today, was told that my company had already been contacted and I am livid, because they have not give me an opportunity to set up a payment plan.
I have enough, so it makes no difference
if I got another 1600- I again do not want taxes on something the president is supposedly doing- my tax burden is enough. Don’t need that money for additional taxes. I think that is plain and simple enough. End of subject for me.
Nah, makes no difference at all
My speed is about 140 but with VR totally out because Expanders not really used, your short cuts for expanding words not used, templates hardly used. My speed high but no good because cannot speed VR up any more than the chipmunk sound I keep it at every day. To me it might seem the opposite, if you type slower might be able to speed up some with VR but you still have to edit any and all and make the 98% correct my company requires.
Makes a difference to me.
This is supposed to be an AMERICAN MT BOARD (as per the moderator) and they have their own boards.
I am sick to death of everyone training them to do our jobs better!
If you have a sound card..(sm)
you should have excellent quality. If the sound card is within your computer, you should hook the ear phones directly up to the computer. If not, you can install an external sound card and plug your ear phones into that. I have the external and have absolutely wonderful sound quality. On my lap tap I have an internal sound card and, again, have wonderful sound quality. I have speakers, but don't use them. If I unplug my ear phones, the speakers work, but I honestly can't say the last time I did that. I always use my ear phones.
My cat just stepped on my keyboard...Now I have two of them sitting right in front of me. Lovely, I guess they want my attention.
My daughter made it to the state tournament for softball All-Stars and we are headed up to the high country in the cool 80s. We will be out of this 115 degree weather for a week. Yippeee! That is something I love about Arizona. You just have a couple-hour drive and you are up in the cool mountain air.
Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Thanks so much - great ideas!
Which VR platform used makes a difference
Hi Jay, I took the survey just now, but one caveat I have that I was hoping to be able to comment on in the survey but it was not asked (and I believe is a key component to the way people will respond favorably or not to VR) is what VR platform they are using. They are definitely not all created equal. I work on eScription, which is MS Word-based, and have made more money doing eScription VR than straight typing (previously also in an MS Word-based platform). I have seen another person's experience in a non-MS Word-based platform, and they have not had the same experience as I have had with tremendous gains in productivity. It is a platform that basically resides in a Web browser window and prohibits use of all the built-in MS Word productivity tools (autocorrect, autotext, spell check). Some people seem to think that the need/use of these tools vanishes in VR, but it does not. So, robbed of such tools in a non-MS Word-based system such as some VR platforms, there will probably be disappointing gains in productivity compared to MS Word-based VR platforms. I can attest to this personally. This goes for platforms that will not work with Expanders such as InstantText (which I use) or any of the other Expander programs. So, what I am saying in summary is that not all VR platforms/programs are created equal, and I think it is very important to distinguish which platform people use that are responding to your survey, because I feel that greatly influences their experience with VR and, hence, response to your questions on the survey. Good luck with your speaking....
seriously, people, this makes a difference
do you have any benefits with this IC job
It was there for last 5 years, makes no difference.

Where you live makes a difference here also
I have a new home, true enough and if I had bought in California I probably would have paid more than a half million for it but don’t live there. I have a brand new vehicle and do each year and a higher priced one. I am going on 3 vacations this year, 1 to Canada. I have savings and we have not been hit as bad as other people. If I did not have money, as in the past, then I increased my work load. I am hardly settling. Not all my money comes from the 8 cpl, heck I do VR and that is only 4 cpl.
it depends upon what the sound card will be used for
If it's extremely important (i.e. speech recognition), go for the SoundBlaster Audigy. It sells for about $129. Otherwise, the plain old SoundBlaster is a good bet.
Adjust sound card sm
You need to go to control panel, select sounds and devices, then select the audio tab, then the advanced tab, and finally the speakers tab. Change setting under "speaker setup" to stereo headphones, then you should hear in both ears with your headphones.
Once my sound card got changed somehow
So, I would check and choose the alternate one as mine would not produce any sound until I changed it back.
Also, do you have the latest version of Express Scribe downloaded? They have a newer one out that I wasn't aware of until about a month ago. It is improved.
Sound card recommendations?
Does anyone have recommendations for a good sound card? I currently have a Creative Audigy LS sound card and would like to replace it with a sound card that might provide stronger and more crisp sound for transcription. Thanks
PS -- I am gross line which makes a difference -- nm

Educational program makes a difference
The only way I see it, is if you graduate from one of the top 3 programs out there and do well, jobs are definitely out there. Otherwise, I wouldn't even know what to tell them. Good luck! :)
A sound card is a piece of hardware.
You'll have to determine if a sound card is installed. If not, you can install one but that's probably not the answer you're looking for.
Is there another option/location where you can go to get this work done?
You really should have checked all of this out before you left home. I ALWAYS take my laptop with me because the one person I can rely on in most cases is me.
I am sorry about your situation.
YES, I always like the polite ones. Even if they aren't the best dictators. Makes a difference

Instant Text makes an amazing difference because it does more
than just expand text. Check out their site.
How Do I Know if My Computer Has a SoundBlaster Compatible Sound Card?
I am new to this site, and I love it already! It will definitely come in handy for starting up with my MT job again.... Its been about a year.
Just had a question for those of you that might be more computer savvy than I... which isn't hard. For my new MT job, I need my computer to have a SoundBlaster Compatible Sound Card.
Say what?!
I have no idea how to know if my computer has this already or if I need to purchase it. I don't wanna sound completely dumb before even starting the job fully by asking this question of them.... eek!
Plz help! Thanks!
Sounds like their sound card is not compatible with express scribe. (nm)

if you determined you do have a sound card, uninstall express scribe and reinstall. sm
i have had some computer issues recently and it seemed there were some quirks with downloading it. i had to reinstall to get mine functioning although i wasn't getting the exact same response as you, but issues. i would also update your drivers if you do have a sound card before buying another one. right click my computer icon, hit properties, hardware tab, device manager, look under sound, video, and game controllers and you will see a sound card there if you have one. also notice if there are any yellow triangles or anything as those signal a conflict. email me if you need to.
She's asking for *keyboard* shortcuts, not mouse shortcuts. Huge difference. nm

I use an external sound card and my ear phones plug into that on my Dell. I find this so much bette
of the computer and #2 because there is a volume switch in the sound card (Soundblaster about $50).
RIGHT!!! Someone who works 16 hours and someone who works 60 will have a HUGE difference. NM

you sound as if this MQ lawsuit makes you happy (sm)
in some sick and twisted way! Why would this make you happy. Not that anything significant will come of it, I mean come on, do you really think MQ is going down the tubes? Don't get your hopes up, honey! You know, your posting name is very fitting...mushroom=fungus!
Doesn't sound round, makes no sense.
Good for you! You sound like a very nice and generous person and you deserve all your good luck! nm

I meant it in a good way, and I will not turn this into a huge ugly post.
I am not a "paranoid mass of jelly", for Heaven's sakes! But I have lived thru having neighbor children try to poison my puppies over our fence in similar circumstances - not identical, but similar. These same kids used to stuff picked flowers in my mailbox, and I never knew how to take it. I just asked that she be extra cautious. Obviously you ladies have been blessed with not being confronted in life with strange "encounters" like this - I have, and have tried to learn from it. There used to be no more trusting person than myself. I have learned, though, to be cautious in situations like this - not paranoid, just cautious. Wisdom, some would call it? For what its worth, my sister is a psychiatrist, and she thought the flowers creepy as well, but in a different analytical light - with her mother's and sibling(s) death of late, and her expressing that she wanted the puppy killed, to my sister, she said they could be symbolic of flowers on a grave. Not paranoid - she's nearly 60 years old and deals with school-aged kids on a daily basis. Her "job", so to speak. Again, probably a 100% innocent gesture, but to those of us who have had encounters with the "children from H*ll", it could be eery. My post was meant out of genuine concern for Puppy Mom!
No credit card is a good credit card.
Just kidding. I'd suggest not using credit cards to pay debts. It'll only dig you in deeper. Look into a signature loan or putting a lien against a vehicle or house. Lower interest rate, pay off sooner.
A laptop, wireless router or a card from say Sprint, good battery
you could work anywhere. Being wireless has great benefits, say if you are in the hospital, dying, why you could make a few bucks to pay for the funeral.
Wow. Does not sound good to me!

WW is a good sound program (sm)
that nearly anyone can follow because it involves "real food" and no restrictions. I don't know about you, but when I'm told I can only eat this or that and not to eat this or that, that's when I start to fail at a "diet."
I see someone else suggested Atkins, and from what I've seen of a lot of people on that, usually it's not a lifestyle choice. They lose weight but if they change their eating habits, pounds come back with a few friends. South Beach, from what I understand, is also along the way of Atkins but they do promote good carbs, I'm guessing whole wheat/grains as opposed to simple sugar grains.
If you are currently not overdoing it on calories and following a fairly healthy diet, I would suggest upping the amount of time you walk, plus making sure you are getting in plenty of water. I walk 5 miles per day, takes 60 minutes, and in my weight loss phase, I lost on average 2 pounds per week. Sometimes 2-1/2, but averaged per month about 8-10 pounds. Do you have an extra 30 minutes to add to your walking regimen? Also, I did light toning, which also helps burn more calories, even at rest.
I don't know what your budget is like, but you could probably drop that extra 20 simply by walking more.
geeezz that does not sound good

Doesn't sound too good sm
I wonder if there is something else we could use our skills in that makes more money, maybe in medical records or billing and coding. Maybe being paid in something that pays hourly would be more beneficial. I am aware there are medical transcriptionists who really do make good money with benefits. Guess they have the right accounts to do so.
Doesn't sound good, does it?
Since it's the line coming to your house that matters and TW apparently has the monopoly on that, you may have to crunch some numbers to see if it's worth it to rethink how you pay for your entertainment bundle. Ours is bundled as satellite TV/phone/DSL. If we had cable as opposed to DSL, it would definitely be easier to regroup. I wish you luck.
Please keep the puppy away from that little girl. I don't like the sound of it. Good for you sm
with the camera. Keep that video for a long time! People's memories have a way of fading.
Shelties are the sweetest, gentlest dogs, but their instinct is to nip feet in an attempt to herd. Have fun with your new sweetie!
so whose job was it to hire these MTs? doesn't sound like they did a good job.
who else you want to relieve of their work duties? the recruiters, the testers, the trainers, the owners?
Yuck! That doesn't sound good...thanks! :) NM

Be very careful!!! Does not sound like a good place to go. nm

Debit card. They've got the credit card logo on them, so they
can be used anywhere a credit card can be used.
I used to send a card and gift card to my direct supervisor, but that's it. sm
She was the only one who knew me as more than an employee number, and the only one I had any respect for.
well I bet that makes her feel good, aren't you wonderful
Nice of you to let everyone know how good you have it compared to others.
