sending a letter of introduction and include a business card they can keep in their Rolodex. With it being holiday season, make sure you say you are available for overflow for their regular MT or vacation/illness coverage since this is typically the time of year that people take time off or get sick. I agree that word of mouth is your best friend as far as local accounts. If you have friends or acquaintances working in doctors' offices or the like, let them know you're available. See if the hospital has a bulletin board where you could post a flier. Get the word out there and you'll end up with an offer sooner or later, likely 2-3 at the same time and then you'll be overwhelmed! lol If you know of other transcription services in town, you might get friendly with the owner. I landed an account that way. I helped another MTSO out with some computer advice and she sent an account my way that she couldn't take on. Make sure, however, that they know you aren't interested in stealing any of their business (and then don't ever!).

postcards

I was just wondering if anyone looking for new accounts has sent out postcards to doctors??    If so, did you have any success?

TIA, and have a good Monday.

Postcards
Do you mind if I ask what information you include in your postcards, how often you send them out, how many do you send out, and what results you have received? Please feel free to email me - I am very curious as I would love to do this and "cold calling" gives me the hives! ha TIA
one idea: postcards

An owner friend told me when I was starting out that she found postcards to be a great way, not as "in your face" as cold calling the client (you won't get to speak to the right people anyway) and something they could keep if they needed it, especially if it has a nice picture on it.  She said she had had a good number of responses.  I did about 200 myself and only had one response but I wasn't too aggressive about it, didn't do any followup whatsoever.  But I thought it was a good idea.  Depending on your area and whether or not you are getting responses, I would follow up with a phone call or visit with some business cards or flyers.  As for what to wear if I was going in to see a client, I would dress like it was a job interview.  I have gotten clients inadvertently by interviewing for actual jobs at a time when I ultimately made the decision to become self-employed.  But as it happened, a couple of those people wanted me anyway and asked to become my clients.  You could probably make something like that work as long as you didn't make it look like a bait and switch.  Post back and keep us up to date!

I've had better luck with postcards vs. letters
