No have not purchased another house but am moving out of state, going to rent for 6 months to see if we like the area before buying again but wanted to move over the Christmas holidays to make it easier on the kids changing schools. I am not sure I want to buy again because am a single mom in my 50s and it is getting to hard to keep up with things that need done
I purchased one of these (sm)
laptop stands and it has been great - http://tinyurl.com/2uwhkz.  It allows me to elevate my screen, which is necessary when working with a separate keyboard in order to keep the screen at eye level and arms/wrists at proper angles.  If your chair does not have a height adjustment, you may want to consider one that does.  Stretching, of course, is important, too.  I'm thinking about getting an inversion table to help with my neck...we'll see .  I also have an elliptical which I use usually halfway through my day for around 30 minutes to exercise my legs.  If you want to do some quick exercises in the house, you may find it nice to workout with pilates DVDs.  It breaks the day up nicely.
You must have purchased them a few sizes
'cause you are really wiggin' out.
I actually purchased this last year (sm)

It's really a neat little program that acts like an alphabetized notebook where you can add entries for quick reference ... say you can't ever remember how to spell certain words, you can add those words and bring up TLRN and look up words you've added. You can create multiple notebooks with different facts/data/addresses or whatever. I found that I never used the program as I had other methods that reminded me of words, i.e., my expander, for one, and I already have tons of programs loaded and running in the background while working that the last thing I needed was another program running behind about six or seven already loaded.

I purchased an HP computer and
(per companies requirements).  The new computer does not have a serial port and therefore I am using a 9 pin to USB converter which works well with my old system but will not work with the new system.  Has anybody comes across this when purchasing a new system recently?  HP is unable to help me and so I am turning to fellow MT's.
I also purchased an adapter...sm
Staples also carries these adapters. I had to convert to a USB port as my newer pc did not have the port I needed either.
Heartland is finally purchased...

Spheris purchases Heartland Information Services.. more to come later in the week

I purchased it through Transcription Gear
express scribe thing yet. Have too much work today to fiddle much with it. I appreciate everybody's advice and help on this.
i purchased it directly at stedmans.com (nm)

I recently purchased the Stedman's (sm)
Medical & Surgical Equipment Words.  Can you tell me the difference between this and The Surgical Word Book?  Thanks.
Had same problem - purchased a 'hub'
store - cost about $80.  It has a serial port and additional USB ports.  Have used this for 3 years now.  Can also use it for all the peripherals you don't have enough ports for on your computer.
Has anyone ever purchased Jon Knowles' list. ...
of abbreviations for medical transcription that can be downloaded into ShortHand or IT, and if so, is it worth the $45?  I have been considering it and think it would be worthwhile but would like opinions.  TIA.
I recently purchased a 23-inch...
Phillips LCD flat screen TV to use as a computer monitor. The TV price was relatively the same as a computer monitor of the same size. Definitely go as big as you can afford...you won't be sorry!
MedQuist was recently purchased

I just purchased the ABCZ glossaries for IT sm
A few weeks ago, and I am glad I did.  It was definitely worth it.  I like that I didn't have to start over from scratch to start following a system.  I used his files and then used the workshop to convert my enteries over to the ABCZ system.  It has been a big help to me.  With 2 small kids I didn't have the time to try to figure out my own system and start creating the entries, so ABCZ was perfect for me.
Changes after an upgrade
I have one of my co-workers who sent me a word file and she has Vista.  When I tried to open the file it told me I had to upgrade to be able to open the file, so I did...well now all of my folders are out of sorts and moved around in my documents.  Things I had a + before to make them be the first folders in the list are now moved to the bottom of the list.  Last things are now first......Anyone else have this problem and a fix?
Well, if the new upgrade is not as bad --sm
as the one I currently have, maybe I will try it anyway. I still have the original CD from the very first version. I suppose maybe I could go back to that. I am experiencing some computer problems at this point anyway, and my son is trying to talk me into getting a new computer with a higher processor. I have not decided yet, but if I do, it would be a bare bones kit and he would build it for me. At that point, we would have to install the original StartStop and I may just leave it at that then. Other than the few quirks that you mentioned and having already gotten my routine down to work around them, I would really hate to have to learn a whole new voice player. If the others you tried are not as good, then I will stick with what I have. Nothing is ever perfect, I guess. thanks for your input. keep smilin'
Did you upgrade from 8.0?
I searched through some "tech" forums and everyone that had upgraded from 7.0 or 7.5 absolutely hated it! Are you using the free version or did you purchase it? Can you tell me what makes AVG 8.5 better than the rest? I've always been a Norton's user, but never again! Thanks!
Still using my "old" IBM keyboard purchased, I think, around 1990.
I totally panicked when it started going haywire & finally found a company that will repair them, have their own "clone" IBM's which aren't "too" bad, and also have the cord you were searching for.

I bought "their" clone while they repaired my original IBM, and it was pretty close to the touch of the original - but still just not the same. Then a few years ago, my son became aware of my dilema about searching for IBM keyboards -and, Geez - his company had one made by Lexmark back in their supply room - but without a cord -

If you're interested - try looking at http://pckeyboard.com/repair.html -- Repair services are through Unicomp out of KY - 1-800-777-4886, Jim Owens, Ext. 202.

I've been very happy with their service and I, personally, am surprised at what they charge. I purchased their "clone" & the cord for the IBM by Lexmark for $42.69, and their charge for repairing my original IBM was $35.44.
To, me - it's worth it!! Plus - their repair to my original didn't affect the "touch". They replaced key tops, corrected keys that were messed up, i.e., "s" key & others not working, replaced split "attached" cord - but didn't mess with my "feel".

Hate to admit how many "ergonomic" keyboards I've tried. Guess I'm just "too" old, set in my ways, & need my clicky-clack keyboard to keep my rhythm & fingers going.

Does anyone know how to reset a DVI? I purchased one at a yard sale and *sm*
it did not come with a manual.  I am trying to use it for the first time and the dial tone comes up but it is asking for a log in ID.   I would also like to purchase a manual if anyone has one.  I do believe I can go to the DVI website and ask about purchasing one but that will not help me throughout the weekend in trying to figure out what do do now!  Assistance is greatly appreciated!
I purchased BOSE head phones
and it was the best investment I ever made. I got tired of replacing headsets. You can get BOSE earplug ones or the over the head. I have both and prefer the over the head. It is amazing what I can hear now. Just wonder what I might have missed in the past before BOSE.
I purchased Office 2003 at Amazon.com.

Upgrade will work
if you have WP installed on your system.
You won't lose anything with the upgrade.
x
You can upgrade memory. 512 RAM is
better, 256 would be sufficient though.   In the car you would use the foot pedal same as at home.  Put it on the floorboard and push or use hot keys.   If you are going  to travel and work would need alternative ways to download - cell phone, WiFi, dial-up, etc.  I download before I go and use my cell phone to upload if I'm not somewhere where I have another option when I need to send in work.   You can use the laptop keyboard or figure a way to use an external keyboard depending on how much space you have.
Looking to upgrade skills, though sm

just for personal reasons, as I'm still working, etc.  I see Medword has a 9 specialty CD set for $269, and of course there is the SUM Advanced package but that's $840.  My goal is to be more employable by just broadening my skills as I've only been doing ER and clinic for years (going on 10); however, I'm certainly not made of money!  ;)  Do you think the Medword one would be okay or a waste of money?  I've heard great things about the SUM program but do you think it's really necessary?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Windows upgrade
If in doubt about upgrade, please try www.worldstart.com and post a message on the message board asking your tech question and one of the techs will get back to you. They have helped me many times and are great. They sent me in the right direction for my memory upgrade and problems on my computer. They will know if it can or cannot be done. I always ask them there before I add anything on my computer. Just upgraded my memory to 512. They know about software/hardware, etc. Good luck. Try this web site, these techies know what they are doing.
I'm on their latest upgrade right now..sm..
so it's still buggy. I origiinally bought it in December of 2005. That version was worse than the upgrade I installed Saturday. I won't bother uninstalling and reinstalling after reading your email. Thanks for writing.
I've tried ByteScribe and ExpressScribe and the sound isn't as clear on them, especially when you slow down or fast forward so I'll either stick with StartStop and not use the hot keys or I'll try an external sound card for my laptop with the ByteScribe WavPlayer. I've tried the Turtle Beach Audio and that helped make things louder but it didn't help with the slow down and speed up sound clarity.
Is there anyway you can go back to the original version? If you have the original installtion CD, I would think you could. I don't since I bought it originally in Dec. 2005. Thanks again for writing.
Due to software upgrade....
Pages were not loading as usual but it's done now and forums are working fine.

Thanks for your patience.
MTStars Administration.
If it were me, I wouldn't upgrade
From what I have read, 2007 is like a whole new wordprocessing program. It is supposedly very different from what we are used to. Hopefully, someone who knows all about it will let us know more.
InScribe upgrade

I sent this question to Inscribe and the answer I received from this is below it.  I'm going to upgrade and then "back up" if I have to until I can in get a pedal.  This does at least give us warning that the upgrade will be forced later on.

Q:  I have not upgraded to 4.91 InScribe, but still use 4.3.202. I have been told that the upgrade will not allow Express Scribe?

A:  This is mixed results. I know some people are using express scribe sucessfully, but there are some issues with windows Vista and espressscribe

I believe they meanwith the new version. Also there is a USB configuration tool for footpetals built into InScribe that may work for you as well.
The only way to test it is to really just try it out. You can always uninstall the new version and download the previous version, although in the near future the new version of InScribe will be a forced update.

We are getting ready to upgrade.
Supposedly it is going to be "wonderful."  I hope so.
The new upgrade was confusing to me and I just
figured out that it was set to send it to QA automatically. So annoying. There are a lot of things being corrected in my reports that I know are right too.
Just purchased Dirt Devil bagless in K-Mart for $50 and

I purchased that book and it was useless. I think half the stuff in it was old. *sm*
My son told me that he thinks every useful thing has already been invented unless it is technology related.  Sometimes I think he is right and other times I refuse to believe that every idea has already been invented.  I am envious of the women on Oprah who are making a million dollars from a brownie recipe or an umbrella company.  Sometimes I wish I could write a novel or a children's book that would be a best seller.  I know people that sell one item on ebay such as golf clubs and are making their living doing that.  I have never been able to find a popular enough item at wholesale cost to make a living at it.  I do have an idea that I think would go over well in a shopping mall (the idea has been used before but it has never been in a shopping mall) but I do not know where to go with getting it past an idea.  My biggest drawback is that I have no imagination and no real talent other than I am a hard worker and have moral values.
Thanks. I purchased a three way plug last night and it appears to be working and yes for the-sm
poster above it does have a filter on it but the way it plugs in I needed the extra plug so I could still be connected to the computer for my fax to work.  Thanks again for the help.
I've purchased them at both Radio Shack and on Ebay. sm

If I remember correctly, they're called earbud cushions.

A variety of them can be purchased online here:

Power supplies are Dell proprietary and must be purchased from
power supply is the same way.  I have 3 Dell laptops and a Dell PC and there are indeed a number of items that are proprietary.  However, I love all of my Dell products and wouldn't trade them for anything.
Software upgrade under process.
Company board is back now.

Thanks,
Webmaster@MTStars.com
The custom dictionary will come along with the upgrade if you
are upgrading over the previous version. Your autocorrect and autotext and macros upgrade too. Read the upgrade installation prompts carefully and you won't lose anything you had before.
Time for ex-company to upgrade.

My previous employers are unfortunately still in the stone age of using all dial up equipment and word perfect, etc.  I loved the job and would still be there if the work was steady.  The problem is that they do still need p.r.n. help on occasion but I am not willing to pay the 50.00 a month (I would need unlimited LD) for the second line for p.r.n. work, nor do I want to set up another ancient computer on my already cluttered desk.  I've done that for 10 years and done with it.

I've talked to another Transcriptionist and it sounds like it wouldn't be that difficult for them to upgrade in order to use internet capabilities.  Knowing these people for a very long time, they will listen if it is easy and cost effective but I'm clueless where to point them.  Any ideas?

Right now they use all Lanier and Dictaphone and almost all their equipment is due to be repaired (which I expensive and sometimes can't be done) or replaced.

Upgrade to XP or Vista? Surley you already have XP?
If you don't its time you upgraded anyway!
I think you either need to get a router that runs Win 98 or upgrade to XP nm

Have an Vista upgrade disk for
my XP Media Center and never installed it due to all the problems people were having with it. Hopefully the new windows coming out will be an improvement.

No matter what your operating system, MTs still have computer issues. It's part of the gig and goes with the territory. You are not alone in your grief. Be happy to have a hubby who has a few tricks up his sleeve.

It is my guess you are the same person who posted a few weeks ago that MQ had been purchased. Nothi
it is my guess nothing will come of this.
don't need to depreciate computers anymore. take the deduction in the year purchased
x
I've purchased one laptop and one desktop system used/refurbished, sm
...both from that place I mentioned, and you wouldn't know them from used. I used the laptop happily for many years (still have it, though it's quite out of date now), and the PC is going on it's 2nd year with no problems. You do have to be careful when buying used, but if you're dealing with a reputable site that has a good rep, it's usually not a problem at all and the savings can be tremendous.
Copy your autocorrect file before you upgrade. I did't do that, wish I had. nm
x
...on installation? Run the upgrade on it from your Start menu. nm

Be careful with new Express Scribe upgrade..
Apparently, there have been problems with it reading DSS files.  Just be aware....
I believe they recently upgrade to a newer version.
So perhaps you should notify your MTSO manager to alert them that there could be a problem.
