Keep ants from coming back by washing the area they were invading with ammonia to kill the scent they leave as a trail.
White flour (the kind you bake with) put over an ant hill (thick coat)or on the floor where they are invading, etc. will make the ants move to another place, but does not kill them, but is fast for getting rid of a big colony in your back yard.
Green Light is a commercial product that will kill the ants like Tarro does, but is not as fast as making them move somewhere else.

I don't know about renting short term,
I think you could rent it and then return it, but you would have to ask. A friend of my rented-to-buy a Dell PC from them and learned a lesson. She paid approx. 200 every two weeks for almost a year. You will pay 3-4 times what the product is actually worth.
If you have a short-term disability
policy (from your company or if you happen to have one on yourself) you should be covered. If not, you are probably out of luck as far as disability goes.
I'm not sure what type of disability you're asking about. If you mean long-term disability you'd have to have a policy in place for that also and I think it kicks in 6 months after your disability date.
If you meant Soc Security disability, I can safely say you wouldn't be covered. You have to be permanently disabled for that.
You can usually purchase short-term disability from
your employer if they offer long-term disability. When it is offered, you usually choose the reimbursement rate, typically up to 70% of your pay.
Savings. LOL That's the way you'll make up the difference. Sadly, disability insurance (LT or ST) has never covered 100% of missing pay.

I did all the vertebral levels, except thoracic spine levels 2-11 'cause when do you ever type anything pertaining to the middle of the thoracic spine? HA! That's all I had today! Now I will go back in and make shortcuts for the rest of the thoracic spine.

There are some short-term insurance policies out there that cover you betweens job but do know that
they will not constitute as having "real" insurance thus the same has having had no insurance for those few months. I stupidly got a short-term policy for three months until my new insurance would kick in and it ended up not meaning anything to my new insurance. I had to wait a year for my preexisiting. This was Regence Blue Shield and others could be the same way. If nothing else, get a cheap high deductible plan ASAP to kick in right away if you dont want to take the Cobra.

learning to change a whole lifetime of the way you look at situations, but it should be very helpful for you. Agree, sometimes rehashing the old stuff (if you have accepted that it was what it was and it's not still happening) can be nonproductive in a way and very traumatic. I have done all types of therapy except analysis (and analysis is an even longer process) and the cognitive therapy was the most helpful for me. Good luck.

I have worked for BTS for 2 years and enjoy it! It is difficult waiting for that first check, but you are being paid for the previous pay period, not the one you have just finished.
Overall, I think they are very considerate towards work load, time off, and I enjoy the people I work with on my accounts. People are always complaining on here about not having work, but we never seem to have a shortage.
There are no long-term contracts
I've rented from them several times, both paying off items and giving some items back when I got something to replace it. You can expect to pay two to three times the price (if not more) for an item then if you just went and bought the item outright which to many sounds outrageous, but some of us don't have the money to fork over for more expensive items. I had a good experience with them each time I rented from them whether I kept something for the whole time or I turned the item back in.

The dr. states the patient has been on chronic antibiotics ???pressure??? to ensure that the hip does not become infected. I know there is a term for this, but it is not coming to me. Help

I'm an IC for a long-term client; need advice pls SM
They have implemented a new ftp server that I cannot access through my work computer (Windows 98); however, I juggled around with newer operating systems (Windows 2000 and XP) and can access the ftp server. We are supposed to send completed files to this ftp server (which is a great idea and one we should have been doing all along).
My problem - I have been in nearly weekly contact with this MTSO about not being able to access the ftp site with my work computer. They told me to disable my firewall (which I am not about to do) and frankly the reason they haven't corrected my situation is because I am the only MT who is having this access problem (I am not - I talk to a couple other MTs with this MTSO and they are having the same exact problem). My Internet Explorer is the most current version (I have a cable modem) so that wasn't the problem either (another of their suggestions).
Today I get an e-mail from the office manager of the MTSO. They're going to start docking my paycheck (did I mention I am an IC?) if I don't start using this ftp site. What do I do? I am not making THAT much money that I can go out and spend $500 for a new work computer just to access this ftp. It really fries me that I have e-mailed, phoned, etc. and nothing is happening...it's just "my fault." So any suggestions? Great way to start the weekend, I tell ya!

Unions may be good for workers short-term, but look what has happened to American car union workers.
They priced themselves out of the market while making an inferior product. Ford and GM are now junk bonds. I'm driving a Toyota. So if that's un-American just like shopping at a non-union store like Walmart, well you can talk to whoever is in charge of wages and taxes who have created this monster where even middle-class has very little extra money to support a union store where the employees are paid well and you pay the price in the product they sell. I can't afford it.

is intended for personal conversations. I believe if they find out it is for digital (computer) use they will try to back-bill you for the full charge from when you started using it. This hasn't happened to me personally, I heard this from someone. Just a heads-up.

My long distance is through my cable company, runs through the existing phone lines. It is unlimited, nationwide, and I haven't had any problems with it at all. If your cable company doesn't offer this, you can get Vonage or a similar VOiP (Voice over IP) program. They're inexpensive. The only thing I don't like about Vonage is that it involves hooking up a router to your cable modem, and you can only plug your phones into that router. Good luck!

Have you considered Vonage. Depending on your internet speed (cable or DSL) and depending on the equipment that you have to use, from what I understand this can be used with just about any equipment. Check it out.

LONG DISTANCE
I use AT&T. Get a business account (does not cost more and if you have problems with your phone lines they fix it right away, no waiting.) The price is terrific (I pay for two lines unlimited long distance) and it is around 100.00 a month for both, no long distances charges and great service. I have thought about Vonage or Charter, which would save me some money. If it is available in your area you should check it out. You can keep your old phone numbers too. I think I will stay with AT&T for a while longer until the reliability of Vonage and Charter along with the quality of sound is a sure thing.

like you say unless you call your clients a lot, and even so you should be able to get away with an unlimited plan. Do you have them call in on an 800 number service and that is what is costing you? If that is the case maybe get them set up on handheld digital recorders and have them send the work through a FTP, would be a lot cheaper. As for your equipment, I'd think it would be paid for by now, and of course you can write off all your expenses so that at least saves you tax dollars. Paying your people less should be your last option. It is hard to believe your overhead is so high every month, with .10 a line to fool with, unless these 44 clients do not really produce much in terms of work, if each only does 5000 lines a month, at .10 a line left over that is $22,000 (your cut for yourself and overhead), and you cannot pay your overhead with that? Even if they only do half that, 11K a month is a lot of scratch to pay your LD, attorney, equipment (again do you buy new stuff every month?). There is definitely something wrong with this picture, you need to examine your costs closely and figure out where every penny is going, and start shopping for a new LD carrier, or whatever to get your costs down. If you do pay cuts be prepared for people to leave in droves.

you just have to change over to a business phone from residential. I have to do that myself as I going to be changing places I work for and will need unlimited long distance. It is not too much more than what I pay now.

Thanks for answering my post. I do have a cable/TV/phone co but they prohibit use of the phone for other than direct voice. I tried one of those Magic Jacks but it didn't work. Now I am waiting on a Voip device in the hopes that it will give me what I need.
This lady is well know in the MT community and is a long term MT. I understand
your skepticism, but that is not the case with this gal. She has been straightforward from the very beginning and I have practically her entire background. I would ask that we leave skepticism out of the picture and try to help this family out.

Long Distance Plans
Can anyone suggest a long distance carrier that provides unlimited long distance at a reasonable rate for transcription purposes? I have been told that I have to have a business plan because it is against government regulations to use your home phone line to surf the internet, etc. I have to dial into a long distance number to get my work through a Lanier. I have statellite internet so I do not think I can have Vonage or anything like that where it goes through your PC. I currently pay over $100 a month with taxes and surcharges to have unlimited long distance on one phone line. Is there anything better out there?

Depends on where you live. Do a Google search for your area. My employer told me AT&T was cheapest, but not in my area, ALL plans here run about 70+ a month for unlimited, but down south, AT&T was about $25/month. Big difference where you live. Hope this helps.

I'm researching this today. AT&T restricted our home plan for unlimited long distance and I cannot access my account out of state. AT&T/SBC have business plans that are also reasonable but may involve switching your local service to them to access it. It's the same with CenturyTel, Verizon, Qwest, etc. Residential unlimited long distance plans do not cover data to data phone calls. Eventually they catch you.
