Well by the looks of the class of people who have entered this
I think the majority of them actually are of an unskilled factory worker caliber. You see people on here with no respect for education and who resent others who do have degrees, you see people on here who are often at the doors of destitution and can't think outside the box to improve their quality of life, you see people living with relatives because they can't even afford a home of their own be it rented or owned, you see people on here who are bragging about their husbands making 10 dollars an hour as if that's really good money. Scary what's happened to the MT world. This used to be a respectable job, but not any more. It started going downhill when we left the hospitals and started working at home, which was good for us from a convenience standpoint, but it made a lot of people let themselves go physically since they didn't have to leave the house, it started attracting the socially inept because they didn't want to leave the house either, and the solitude of it all just made a lot of people miserable and angry. No thanks.

that is exactly what I have said, taking to extreme, so paranoid now days, my goodness no one is coming looking for you and if you say grandparents had this or that, you have nothing other than they had that. No names, no social security ##, no nothing. Think about it.

They feel the new technology is gaining hold so fast, that only a younger MT, very comfortable with a computer, will be able to catch on rapidly. (And will not be savvy enough to realize they are being cheated out of lines.)
They also cite the BOS issue. Supposedly new MT's have been professionally trained and know the style guide backwards and forwards. Whereas, older MT's may not know it as well.
I know that's how my company feels about it. It starts with the letter "S".
I am a very social person and I entered this job at home because it paid more money
than the jobs in the office and I was a single parent. I just learned to balance my life outside the work environment with things that did allow me to use my social skills
I never heard of line counts until the MT services entered the picture.
We got our work done every day without being monitored or treated like children who needed to have their work checked.
Never heard of QA either.
Those were the days.
This intelligent MT sees you for what you are, a jerk.

I am heartened by the quick response of so many to donate to this cause, but I am also dishearted by so much skepticism out there at this situation. I am a skeptic too, but if someone needs help, we should all be more than willing to help out. What if it was you or your kids?? Would you want skepticism to keep your kids from having at least a little something under the tree? Follow your hearts, not your egos from having had a bad experience or two in life. We all have had those. Merry Christmas to all who have contributed so far! and to those who still will. :^) Kathy S.

Anyone working with Escription that sees the reports getting worse instead of
better? I have been on the present system for the past 6 years or so, same work, nothing really has changed except for the fact that Escription has in the past couple of months has gone screwy. The numbering is off, people who dictate whose work used to be letter perfect is really messed up, physician's names when dictated are left completely out- has anyone else noticed anything like this happening when on VR- goes from a terrific platform to where you just hate to work on it? the post office usually sets up spots for donations, or lets you leave items for them to pick up. my heart was so moved when they did this in our area for the tsunami victims, and driving around seeing all the bags of donated goods made me almost cry.
something I noticed was that mostly the lower to middle class (still exist?) left items. their neighborhoods were full of bags of goods at their mailboxes for the tsunami victims.

St. Jude's Children Hospital has them, it reads that a gift to the hospital has been given to the hospital in their honor. Very nice, not too personal and no hint that some return gift is expected.

People have no patience anymore. I gave a $10.00 donation and I got an email the next evening.
I think since these people also have a transcription service, no one should expect an instant response. Besides, it's more about giving than getting anyway.

I'd have to say absolutely yes!!! Especially the candy clicking on the teeth. And just plain eating gets on my nerves. Guess they just don't realize that there is an actual person on the other end having to listen to this junk.

A wise old pediatrician told me long ago if you like hard candy, buy Life Savers - there is a reason for the name of that candy, hole in the middle, lets you breathe if stuck in your throat he said. Hot tea and white bread will help those problems. I had a child inhale a chocolate small easter egg and I had to tip him upside down as heimlich did not work, and he spit it out. It is very scary and I hope you are okay. take care and buy some life savers............
