If 13 is the lowest you can go and still make a profit,

Whether someone else can afford to charge 11 cents is not relevant. Don't fixate on thta. You need to calcualate all your expenses (both direct and indirect), add to that a profit you can be happy with, and that's your price plain and simple. If your client accepts it, that's great. If not, it's out of your hands, and you start looking for a new client.

Yes, you can make a profit if you pick up and deliver.
You charge them a line rate that includes your cost for doing the tapes, printing, etc. A business person should know how to successfully sit down and figure up their expenses and how to charge a rate that will provide a profit, regardless of how the dictation is supplied. If the client wants delivery, I am glad to do it and charge them a fee for said delivery based on the cost of gas, vehicle maintenance, etc. They either are willing to pay the fee for the delivery or they decide digital doesn't look all that bad after all. Either way, I win. I also do not go to their office every day. I go twice a week and that's fine with them and doesn't bother me since I'm running other errands then anyway.

I would not dump a client that I've had for years simply because they are afraid of technology. I charge them accordingly for tapes because I consider that out of the normal way I do business and make sure I turn a profit, but I certainly wouldn't dump them. In fact, in some ways, their reluctance to move forward with new technology can be viewed as a positive thing because at least I never have to worry about losing them to speech recognition since they won't even pick up a phone to call in dictation. ;)

Yes, I have a call-in system, I have digital handhelds that I supply to clients, and I am well versed in digital dictation. I prefer my clients to use the digital services I offer, absolutely, but I do have some old clients that I've had for years that just don't want to make the switch. Not about to drop a $30K a year client over it, though. I know that eventually, they will come around and try the digital way of life. Until then, I'll gladly collect the delivery fees. :)
For profit versus not for profit organizations
Does anyone know if there is a difference (in salary or benefits) between being employed by a not-for-profit versus a for-profit hospital or medical center?
for every business, it's profit, profit, profit. That's why it's business and not non-for-p

Okay, let me see if understand, you bid on a job and whoever has the lowest bid gets the job... SM

You get paid by the company who accepts your bid and still you have to pay the website a fee for using their service?

My only question is, WHY?

Why is something like this an appealing way to earn money?

which credit cards have the lowest interest now?
Looking to consolidate some bills, looking for the credit card with lowest interest
I tried DSL through my local phone company. The lowest

fee was $24.95/mo and wasn't much faster than dial-up.  Lots of companies advertise DSL but they may not have service in your area.    The commercials that show fast speeds (up to 5 times faster) for $9.95 is dial-up and it only works with internet site downloads, does not make FTP/voice/music/picture downloads/uploads any faster.

I would check out any company thoroughly to be sure they are legit, check out their claims, fees, technical support, etc.

How much is the highest/lowest pay for an MT working in CorTmedical? Kindly reply.
I'm just curious to know how much do they pay an MT who just started working with them. Thanks.
Isn't that called profit
They charge the hospital more than they pay us.... yes.....don't understand what is supposed to be bad about that.  It's called profit.  As far as calculating the lines differently for the MT versus how they count them for the hospital for billing, there is nothing illegal about that and there is nothing that says they have to calculate the lines the same way.
MTSO's profit

Do you know how hard it is to land an account that will pay you 14 to 16 cpl so that you can pay an MT 10 to 12 cpl.  It is very hard, if you think it is so easy then I suggest you try to get your own accounts and deal with all the headaches.  Keeping only 3 to 4 cpl per line to run the business, deal with all that stress, overhead, etc. is barely worth it to me.  Even with the larger companies, by the time that they pay the MT, the QA, the overhead, the benefits, I know you think all the MTSO's get rich but the medium to smaller MTSO's have a small profit margin.  Again, I suggest that you try to land your own accounts if you are so unhappy with the pay.  Also if you can do 200 to 300 lines per hour, $14 to $24 an hour isn't really that bad of pay to be able to work at home.   Yea I know years ago we got paid more but then years ago we actually TYPED more as we did not have the expanders, the computers, templates, etc.  Anyway, I do agree that  7 cpl is a little low for very experienced MT's but for some of those that I have had apply, it is too much.  Anway, flame me all you want, I don't know what the answer is as but maybe if enough MT's were to get their own accounts and take them away from the larger companies, they could make more, charge a little less than the larger companies.  Hey also what happened to that gal that was on line that was going to have the backer to start her own company and asked for all the input and was going to pay the great wages and benefits, have the perfect schedule for the MT's, etc.  Did she find out that it was not as easy as she thought?  I would like an update from her if possible.

No, profit is they charge the company say 15 cpl and pay
transcriptionists 8 cpl.... the difference is PROFIT... If they pay a Transcriptionist for 75 amount of lines and charge the company for 100, that is STEALING
My husband also has profit sharing
In his case, he has the potential to receive a monthly bonus, which is based on how well this office does sales-wise according to what was projected. This bonus is issued through the regular payroll and is unrelated to the profit sharing, which is a part of the retirement plan (though separate from 401K) and is like a yearly bonus, I think perhaps based on company profitability for the prior fiscal year, so receives it in July, but we are not issued a check for this "bonus" and it is added into the 401K account. When we receive statements, there is a total amount that includes both the 401K and the profit sharing, but it is also broken down as to how much is in each account. I believe he had to work for the company for five years to be 100% vested and I do not think that he was vested at all prior to the five-year anniversary date, though I have worked for a company previously where an employee was gradually vested in increments annually (20% each year or something like that), where if you left the company after, say, three years you would be 60% vested and entitled to 60% of the funds in your profit sharing account, but any time after five years of employment would be 100% vested and, thus, entitled to 100% of the funds allocated to profit sharing.
estimate on company's profit
The company owner (who got the contracts for us, and we subcontracted from her), charged 2 cents more per line. In other words, if the transcription company paid the MT 9 cents per line for transcribing an account, the transcription company would charge the doctor 11 cents per line. That was in the year 2006 BEFORE we went digital, when we used the minitapes. I don't know whether digital requires more or less overhead.
No, it is only income if you are a reseller and are making a profit.

I had a long discussion with the IRS on this topic because I sold everything that wasn't nailed down in our house.  If I had paid taxes on that money, it would have been double taxation because I paid taxes when I first earned the money that bought the item to begin with.  I bought the items, used them for a while, then sold the items as if it was a "yard sale".  I did not make a profit.  I merely resold used items that belonged to me.  I had receipts on most of it to prove that I didn't sell for more than what I paid.

It is different if you're selling on ebay as a business, in which case you would have to do a cost of goods sold, inventory, profit/loss, schedule C, and all those other fun things.

Their claim to be 'not-for-profit' cracks me up.
They're making $$ hand over fist at those seminars. Love the photo of the race horses at the top. Bet more than a few of them own some. Oh - and most companies with an LLC behind them are in other countries. Like India and China, to name a couple.
Of course it's a business! Anything that's run for the purpose of earning a profit is a busine

What galaxy are you on?

isn't it the posting by the visitors here that determine the web site's profit?
just a curious question.
The so-called "reality show" is the lowest form of so-called entertainment in recent years
I hate them. They've ruined TV.
Depends on the pay and account. My lowest average is $15.52 an hour (roughly 182.6 lines an hour) w
;'
Lowest runs $900 week, highest $1400 week (sm)
Get paid 12 CPL. Been doing transcription for about 12 years.
You spending 3K in gasoline to make 4K plus all that time on the road? That doesn't make sense Pat

How nice that the world revolves around what you make and no one else could possibly make more. sm

Marla in So. California pays 11 cpl for a 55 ccl, Oracle pays 9-1/2 cpl, MDI-MD 11 cpl, JLG 10 cpl for gross line, etc.

Of course, these are rates negotiated and paid to qualified MTs.

When I see mistakes I repeatedly make, I make a quickcorrect for it (sm)
for example if I type we plant o instead of "plan to" I have a quick corrct so that if I type plant o, it replaces it with plan to, etc. It is hard - I was with the same company for 8 years. I do not work for anyone with an accuracy requirement though.
When you make the copay, make them give you a sm
receipt for the amount you pay them.  I know they don't like to do this because it takes time, but if you are really stern and insist on a receipt they have to give you one.  Then, the next time you get billed for something you already paid, tell them to look for their copy of the receipt and let THEM do the work.
Yes, unfortunately you do have to make a pest of yourself to make it work, but.....
as the years went by that is why I stayed away from those type of companies.  BTW, Noni is a fabulous product, I absolutely do not care for the "marketing techniques" they use.  One of the facts of this type of industry is you cannot just recruit to make it, you have to retail.  Ever since I "overhauled" my techniques and system...I never had to ask another person to some on board again.  Well, nuf for now.  Take care and have a blessed week!!
lol cut myself off. Anyway, I'll make close to what I used to make with MQ,

You can't make things worse and could make things better.
The skinny woman may be ill.  The guy might not know the dog is a nuisance.  Who knows?  Maybe it is not as forbidding as it seems and maybe they just need to be asked in a nice way.
What do you make.........?????
Just once, I would like to see some sympathy/empathy on this board instead of arguing. Where are your feelings??????
Make sure
you get $ offer in writing with Transolutions BEFORE you start. AFTER you start they don't remember what they offered you and at that point you are stuck. Benefits are VERY good!

Otherwise, QA has gotten very difficult!. Their platform is VERY, VERY, VERY old - it stinks! And good luck getting a response to questions from anyone in the office!

You might want to keep looking.
YW :) Yup, they sure can make you want to...

...sometimes, that's for sure.

Hang in there

Make that four.
I've worked for a couple of large nationals. The folks at Amphion are RESPONSIVE and positive. They'll go out of their way to get things done for you (even on a holiday). Very down to earth and appreciative of the people who generate revenue.

And nope, I'm not management, just impressed because I've been management and know that what they're doing works.
You make no
This all began from "no whining" attacking a newbie on here for spelling a word incorrectly. I am sorry, but we all "started" this profession at one time and there is LOTS to be learned, and the English language is ONLY THE BEGINNING! That poor soul that was attacked hasn't returned! Now, you tell me, is that fair?
also,make sure they

know how the other account is counting their "lines" and make them aware that what sounds like a good deal, may, indeed, be costing them more. Good luck to you.

I think I can make your day

I'm presuming that their template is stationery ...

1.  Pull the template to the screen.
2.  Place a left margin where you want it. The little "L" appears on the ruler.
3.  Look at your ruler and you'll see one triangle on top of the other and a box underneath the bottom triangle.
4.  Put your cursor on the box, hold down the left mouse button, and drag it to where your margin is (you said 1.75" or 2").
5.  Release the mouse button.

You should now be able to type away and nothing will write over what's down the left side of the page.

If this doesn't work, then I think a table is in order, and I can show you how to create one that is visible on the screen but invisible when you print.

Make way more now as an IC of course. nm

Hmm...will it make you really

Angry if I let you know that in Canada we spell it COLOUR, GREY, NEIGHBOUR, etc... I really was not saying whether one should spell it a certain way or not. In fact, since I have lived here I do spell it the American way. My observation was simply that there are plenty of countries that spell it cheque. I cannot believe some of the comments that have been made. I don't often post here as people do seem to be rude sometimes, and I am not likely to do so again.

I want to make that much $$$
HOW?????? are you making that much money? I type 80 to 100 wpm (depends on how I'm feeling any given day), and I am only making MAYBE $32 to $34K per year. I want to make the big bucks. I am good at what I do. I have a word Expander and all kinds of shortcuts. My clients love my work. But I want to know how you all are making that kind of money. Please tell me your secrets.
The only way they will make any $$ is if they
sucker other people into signing up.  It is a multi-level marketing thing.   Unless they are good sales people and they sign up people who are good sales people it is a waste of time.
IMO QA should make MORE than
and no, I'm not in QA, but seems to me that they have to know and/or understand what the MT doesn't in order to do their jobs, so why don't they make more? They should be hourly, but as I said, just in my opinion.
make your own job
Even owners don't get to work  that schedule/hours with that pay  So guess you will have to "make" your own job?   To pay you what you want in an 8 hour shift, you would still need to produce 2000 lines to bill out to the client so we could have the money to pay you, that is why we do cpl.  Like I said, everyone would love that schedule/hours and pay.   When you find it, beam up Scotty and let me join you.
Wow, how do you all make that much?
I work about 5 hours a day, five days a week, and I am lucky if I make $1000 a month
Make that DH, please.
:+
Yes but how much do you make?
All of those cushy things are great, but the pay is so bad working at home.  I will be making 20 dollars and hour plus benefits plus many many days off, paid holidays, great insurance.  I can't make 20 dollars an hour working at home.  Do most people?  How much an hour do people make working at home and how many hours do you put in?
you just have to make it one of your sm

many priorities.  I just started 3 mos ago and have finally decided that it is important to my health, so I have to make time to exercise.  Even getting up and doing a bunch of jumping jacks once per hour is better than nothing, but if you can take 30 minutes to walk or do yoga or run or whatever, it will be a good thing for you and might even increase your productivity!

I think they probably look to make sure....
that the company is not paying $1.00 per line and we missed it!
Make a Wish (sm)
If you could choose between being paid by the hour versus being paid by the line, which would you choose?  Why?  And how much either method?  Just dream a little bit--nothing outrageous, what do you think would be fair to both sides.
Can you get SSI for your son, or is that what you make too

much money for?

Yes, make too much for SSI

I think I have applied three times in the past 11 years.  Once we were $200 dollars over the limit and I know I should have consulted a lawyer then to try to do something but I just figured it wasn't worth it or we should be able to get by.  He's had to have three major surgeries with minor ones along the way in 11 years.  We were just climbing out when he had to have another one three years ago and now we're down again.  I can't blame it all on that though.  We have had some miss management of a few things but it's not like we live in a big house and drive new cars and take elaborate vacations.  (vacation, what's that).  I just don't understand how some people can live like that do.

well if you get on there make sure
to give a shout out to all your fellow MTs - I'll be rooting for you !
Can you tell me how you make them? SM
I would LOVE to know how to make candles. Is there a quick way to learn? TIA!
They still make them....sm
the ice cream trucks that cover our area sell them. Also last summer when we were at Disney World they had them there.
I make $15/hr
I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but it works for me. I also have PTO and no weekends or holidays.
