I can identify except...
I don't think I really hate transcribing, just tired of it. I envy any woman who does not have to work and enjoys her home, and I personally can't wait to retire and hopefully enjoy my small pension and the SS when that happens. I've been off work for about a month now (switching jobs; this is the longest period since I was a teenager that I have not had to work). I have been extremely busy and loving every minute of it and while very grateful to have it, I hate to have to start up this new job. If I didn't have to work for a living full time, I'd volunteer at several places, be more active in my church, be outdoors daily in my yard (can barely keep up with that but love it), would walk a lot more, would help out at my nephew's school, etc. Hope I'm physically able to do all this still in another 10 years.

Very good and clear description of what will happen at this company.
I believe they are taking the bottom of the barrel of hospitals out there and
not putting any restrictions or caveats on the work - instead making the MT
"eat" the loss and MQ is playing the odds.
But if all you get is bad dictators - you will not survive. Probably the reason the
hospital had to outsource IN THE FIRST PLACE - is because of the doctors.
What I've never understood is WHY CAN'T THE HOSPITAL DEMAND
APPROPRIATE AND DISTINCT DICTATION.......IT IS TO THEIR LEGAL AND
MONETARY BENEFIT.
I mean they require appropriate credentials, and timely dictation of reports - just because we are mostly women "typing" is that the reason no consideration has been given to what has been thrown at "transcription"? I have wondered. I know you say "transcription" in a medical staff meeting and the eyes of administrators go DARK and they nearly throw up in your face. The hospital just WANTS IT DONE AND DON'T WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING MORE ABOUT HOW IT GOT DONE.
Well, it would be simple if they also spot checked physician's dictation
as part of Quality Assurance and if they were not doing it right - in English - with
English structure sentences - they were kicked off staff just as when they don't
do their charts timely.

I call her 3-4 x a year with questions, policy changes (home, jewelry and 2 cars), rates, etc. I have some doctor papers/releases to sign, maybe I will run by her office and talk with her before signing them and get her take on things. Could anyone help me identify a bug problem? sm
I live in Ohio and have never seen these bugs before. I went outside last night to my backyard and noticed millions of tiny, black bugs on the back of my house, along the brick wall and windows down by the ground/basement wall area. They are a little bit bigger than a pencil tip, very black and almost look like a small beetle. Any help in identifing these creepy critters would be great. I also noticed them today around and on our above ground pool! Thanks for any help.

We signed with an agent who for 3 months sat on her keister and didn't show the house but one time. The pictures she took were horrible (took a picture of one corner of a bedroom which was really stupid)- the house was empty as we'd already moved out. Every couple of weeks we called to find out what was happening on the house and all she said was "I'm sure it will sell soon. It's posted on our website and in MLS" She came to us with glowing recommendations - but the 2 people that highly referred her also had homes that were above $300,000 and ours was $140,000 - probably accounting for the difference in sales style.
Finally the 90 day contract with this lazy person ran out. We got the house sold on our own through word of mouth and saved thousands by not paying some lazy bum agent to sit on her butt and collect a check for doing nothing.
As far as the hype goes by realtors to use them or risk legal problems - a good closing attorney will make sure that all of the i's are dotted and t's are crossed, and that everything is spelled out in the contract that needs to be. On the 2 houses I've bought over the years the agent that I worked with basically did nothing more than show me a dozen homes (we knew the area we wanted and gave them specifics on the type of house we wanted) and passed paperwork back and forth. Each of them made a good commission for that. Next home we buy we'll look on the internet first at the Assist2Sell and similar sites to see if we can find something without using lazy agents who make thousands for doing a little bit of work.

Crusing the neighborhoods, have no agent
I have 25+ years acute care experience at 1000+ bed prominent teaching hospital. Have done EVERYTHING. QA always exceptional. +++ line production. BA degree in English. Recent management changes have prompted me to protect my interests against surprises. My question is (and forgive me if this is not realistic) where can I find an employer/client who has an appreciation for someone with my education, experience and line production ability. From time to time in the past, I've superficially explored other options and was shocked to find my worth was no more than a brand new MT. Is there no value or premium placed on MTs of higher quality than the run-of-the-mill MTs.
Please forgive me in advance if anyone takes offense. This isn't about me thinking I'm better than the rest - I know what I can do and have done so for many, many years. I just don't want to waste my time in bad neighborhoods when I know there are better zip codes. I just need an "agent" to steer me in the right direction.

No. People are not allowed to identify themselves there.
Identifying yourself along with your employer is what I am talking about.
Publicly putting your personal life and identity into cyberspace and attaching it to your employer is usually a big no-no with employers. They have a no representation clause.

I especially like Lillybelle's posts also. Just recently I have considering the same thing as in letting go some of the 'perfection' as it (literally) does not pay.
However, have you ever heard QA complain? There are a lot of posts right at this site where there is nothing but complaints about how 'lazy' MTs are etc. Not that I want to rekindle that argument, but I always worry about a backlash from QA, even for leaving reasonable blanks...

I agree with using a real estate agent...
especially with the market being what it is right now. I will be putting my home on the market in a few weeks. I will want someone who sells homes full time, is a go-getter, has contacts in the field, etc., etc. I think the commission is worth it...especially considering the legal battles that could possibly ensue with the sale of real estate. PLUS, an agent will not deal with FSBO....so that eliminates a LOT of possible buyers right off the bat.
Just my opinion.

We are in NC. Actually, it was at my parents' house. They tried to get snake repellent but according to the directions it may make the problem worse. They ended up putting window screen netting over all of the vents just to get through the weekend so they can call the exterminator. Can't really say what kind or how big he was. It was hard to see through the vent. Any snake to me is no good. He was big enough that he was coiled up at least several times. First time I looked down and saw him his head was right at the vent and he was licking his tongue up toward/through the vent slot. Holy Moley. 
How do you know the snake is a HE?...sm
In Florida, we have a serpentarium (sp?) where the man comes only to remove snakes....

that is the whole point of filing an extension....BUT they nail you with interest and penalties for the late filing. So you might want to figure out what you are in for before you do an extension, or make sure you file quickly after April 15 to lessen the interest charges.

Did it ever get out so it could be caught? Or did it just disappear? It probably found its way out by whatever way it came in. I was thinking of you today, LOL. I took my 2 dogs out for a little playtime beyond the fence gate where we keep them penned in. My youngest dog, just barely a year, was sniffing the ground, jumped back, sniffed again and jumped back again. I thought maybe there was some unfamiliar animal doo-doo in the yard and went over to see what he was sniffing. Here it was a 5 feet long blue racer all curled up right in the middle of the yard, just chillin'. Of course, my son the avid snake fanatic wasn't home so I got the garden hoe and a bucket and coaxed it into the bucket and took it way out back and turned it loose over the hill. He can go find lunch elsewhere. Wasn't my favorite job but I really don't care for them in my yard. I figured he found his way in after the 3 feet high lawn was cut next door the other day. They usually breed in the previous owner's garage. 
Snake repellant
Real peppermint oil drives them off. Not the flavoring you bake with, but the real oil, sold for about $11 for a tiny jar. Put a drop on cotton ball and put it in the bush. Put a drop on some more cotton balls and throw them into bush. Should clear out the bush and the area, at least until it rains. Good luck.
DSS is a file extension.
Sending and receiving voice files are all types is not dependent on the file extension but rather using a method that is compatible on both ends. Having said that, if you're both using the Olympus software (which plays back .dss voice files), check the Help files to see if there are detailed instructions on how to use that software to transfer voice and documents between the two locations. However, you are not limited to using their software. There are several methods that have already been mentioned in this message thread--winzip and FTP among them. It's important to make sure that whatever method you use, it's secure.
Email is probably not going to work for receiving the voice files since some voice files are so large that they are rejected by ISPs. Check on either a commercial site like mydocsonline, Files To Go, or the Mededocs mentioned. FTP options are sites likes FTP to Go or zftp.com. Do a Google search for FTP space to find more. There are also lots of free ftpsoftware programs out there to be used for the interface.
selling snake oil?
So for the second time this year, "At Home Professions" has come calling to town to give their big seminar. The flood of calls to my house start coming in from people I barely know or hardly know about all the fame and fortune of being an MT. They are telling people they could start at 15 cpl and make 50K per year. Are they even a real school? I want that job!
Nevertheless, I get the calls about how wonderful and terrific working at home is (not that it isn't, but it is hard work!), how "I listened to what they had to say and I can do that" (like it is no big deal), and basically how "easy" it is. Sigh.... I feel like I am explaining the science of building a rocket to my 5 year old who just wants to jump in and take a ride!

Using online and catalogues does nothing to promote the local economy. We complain about outsourcing and about the big companies gobbling up all the work so the jobs at local hospitals are gone, yet we do the same thing when we buy on ebay, catalog, and these web sites that may be located any place in the world as their primary business location.

What is the sound file extension?
In other words, what type of sound file is it? There are different sound file formats out there. You may be able to play it in Express Scribe so you'd be able to use your footpedal. It sounds as if you have your computer set to play certain sound files through QuickTime. You're not using a Mac, are you? Or do you have the PC version of Quicktime?
You can change the file association by single right clicking on the file, open Properties, then change Opens With by clicking the box to the right and selecting a different sound player. Another way to do it would be to open Express Scribe (if that's what you're using, as long as it is compatible with your sound file type), then Open Dictation File and browse for the sound file. Some of the sound files need patches from Express Scribe to be able to play, but the program and patches are free.
And yes, those companies that provide their lousiest dictation to test with are probably ones you wouldn't want to work for anyway, because the test file IS representative of the garbage they'll be pushing at you daily. (Especially if you do really well on it!!!)

I cannot understand why people think COBRA is a specific insurance policy. IT IS NOT. It is a government policy that allows you to still maintain you current insurance, with you paying for it, for a certain amount of time.

If they're not saved as .doc, Word won't be able to search them; however, you can open them individually with Word.

I used to live in a big old farm house and snakes would get in occasionally. Also an owl came in through the old heater pipe. I miss the country but it would give you a little high blood pressure once in a while.

Only one knee hurts, have trouble with full extension
so I learned how to work the foot pedal with the other leg. The more I keep my post surgical knee bent, the tighter the muscles coming into the back of the joint get. I have to stand and toe and heel stretch to work out the stiffness. Summer will be here soon and swimming does wonders for the knees...it always makes my flares go away.

Odds are its a harmless snake, open up then vent but capture it - sm
rig up some sort of box for it to crawl into, put some food in there for it (dead mouse, whatever) and when it comes out, close up the box. Take it outside and let it go. We don't kill anything if its not poisonous, even then I don't (have a lot copperheads around here), though my DH does. My 1 neighbor kills all snakes unfortunately. Snakes are good though, they keep down the rodents. They won't bother you if you don't bother them.
The program is being determined by the file extension you're receiving. sm
If you're receiving a voice file that's opening automatically in MediaPlayer (which is what I think you're trying to say), then you will need to change the program that is automatically associated with that file type so that it will open the program you want to use.
The easiest way to do this is to open Explorer, locate the voice file, right mouse click on it and choose Properties. On the General tab in the first "block" where is says Opens With, click the Change button and then choose the program you want to use from the list that appears. This will change the program that opens ALL files with that extension.
To change
then, by extension of your logic, IS THERE a right career for this woman at this time? sheesh.

When I broke my ankle, I was just grateful it wasn't the hands. Without our hands we'd be totally screwed.
I broke my right ankle slipping on ice and was lucky to have gloves on because the palm of the glove was totally torn up and my hand was okay.
