I would suggest that several of you choose a time and day to meet in chat. That usually works

CHAT ROOM MEET @ 7:00 EST
Hi all,
There is a group of us planning to meet in the chat room at 7:00 EST tonight. All are welcome.
People have options and have a right to choose what works for them
It's a shame for the people in that office, but it happens.
You can download Shorthand, choose the "capitalize first letter" option. SH works with ExText
nm
It might help if several of you set up a day and time and meet there.

May I suggest a book I just bought and it works. Joyce Meyer's A Confident Woman. nm
nm
Perhaps, but real time chat is fun too.

Working full time at home with small children is hard but part time works great
is almost impossible. You will either have to work when your spouse is home or for only a few hours during the day and then more when they are asleep. I work part time at home and my kids (2&5 now) have done very, very well. They are great kids, very well behaved, don't get into much. I stop working to check on them/give them some attention every hour or so while I work (5 hours each afternoon or so) and they get all my attention in the morning and at night. It has worked out beautifully for us.
MTStars has a new chat software. Check it out. Click on the CHAT now! link at the top right corner.
If you would like to set times and days/evenings to chat, post here and we will include it in the newsletter.
works every time
Buy a can of peaches. Give him a couple tablespoons of the syrup only! If he keeps it down, give him couple more in about 1/2 hour. Worked every single time with all my kids.
God works his miracles in time - sm
and so many times at JUST the right time!!! Congratulations!! I am blessed to have an appreciative husband too! I just got a 2005 PT Cruiser (car) because of hard work and obligation to taking up the slack... love that PT Cruiser!!! lol
One of my long-time friends works on the same
account and she can't wait for me to get started. She is overwhelmed with work and types a little 20,000 lines per payperiod. I've been assigned to her account. So, I guess there IS work.
If it turns out there isn't, then I will move along.
What I will NOT do is trash the company on the boards and join this really sad crab club on here. That's too far down in the bucket for me to go.
Good bye and so sorry for you.
I have a hugfest with my dogs. Works every time! nm

Whatever time frame works for you. The point is
If you have to keep looking up your entries, it is not functional! LOL You're just looking up something else!
The point is to have Expanders you don't even have to think about. They just automatically flow with the text and you don't have to even think about using them.
It's always the first thing a computer person asks me...lol! And it works a lot of the time. nm

Certainly you should have to meet your
But as the MTSO it is not your business to know what I am doing with my time unless I am not meeting the deadline. I have a deadline to meet with all of my clients, but I certainly do not report to my clients my daily goings on in my life as it is none of their business. As an independent contractor, the MTSO cannot set my hours. Punching a time clock is for employees not independent contractors.
How many here would like to meet?
Let's start with a few southern places and see how many would actually meet in spring next year:
1) Memphis, Tennessee
2) St. Louis, Missouri
3) Kansas City, Missouri
4) Atlanta, Georgia
5) Dallas, Texas
Anyone interested in getting a group in for 2-3 days in any of those places next spring?
Full Word is in the Works "Suite," not plain Works.
Works saves files in a different format, but you can open them in Word if you have the correct filter installed.
How do you meet the buyer?
Do you have to let strangers in your house? I'd be afraid they'd be looking around to case the joint.
She still has to meet TAT and recording
not a good idea. What if that report is recorded off and the hospital/office needs access to it right away? If she is off somewhere with it on a tape, that could be a huge problem.
IC doesn't mean you can do whatever you want to do! And if recording makes the sound quality such that you cannot produce an accurate report, then I would think that would be unacceptable.
Curious - just to meet?
Dallas, TX
I would meet in Dallas also.
.
Here! Good to meet you. That guy was
something else, but did give me a chance to learn ops at an hourly pay, so I have him to thank. That was a long time ago, and far far away! Memories! Hi to all my friends who worked in the room with no lights, and the money tree with the bugs. LOL.
Overhire as long as one meet TAT

Meet me here Saturday night.
I would love to chat. I'll be working Saturday evening if you want to check back then.
I too have struggled to meet quota since (sm)
starting DQS, but nothing has been said to me about it. But if they do ask why, you better believe me, I will give them more than an ear full! I hate working and feeling like if I don't meet production, I'm gonna lose my job or something. This job is already stressful enough between the bad dictators and feeling like I'm getting my lines ripped off since DQS, I mean come on, they need to give us a break!
Howdy, nice to meet another PJ.
I love psych, but the work is hard to find as many facilities keep that one for in-house only due to all the extra precautions that need to be taken regarding psych info. If you land an account, you guard it with your life!
So Nice To Have A Place To Meet Again!
I wish the MT help desk would come to this board to answer questions, etc. I hate talking on the phone, being put on hold, being transferred from one person to another, getting called back when I'm changing a dirty diaper, etc.
For you married folks, how did you meet? sm
Through friends/family? At school? Met each other at the grocery store when you reached for the same loaf of bread at the same time? Through an internet dating site?
MEET ON DIET BOARD???!!!
This is excited to hear so many on and starting out with this diet. I am starting a thread on the diet board so we can keep track of progress!!! This will be great support!!!
I think she should meet him in public place..nm

If you meet the criteria for an IC, they are right. If you do not, they are just calling you that
:P
pleased to meet you, hope
you guessed my name . . .
Agree with you. As long as you meet TAT, you

Have 3 years to meet all the CE requirements.
So many to choose from...
I like Triscuits with with cheddar cheese, lean summer sausage, and jalapenos, or Triscuits with mozzarella and hot salsa. Other than that, fruit, nuts, popcorn, veggies.
who to choose???
Any info on Precyse Solutions...Silent Type....Breitner ????
Need to give decisions by Friday...help!
ok believe what YOU choose to believe....sm
And empty, not-yet-used concentration camps do not physically exist in the USA, yes? And your president has told no lies in 6 years, yes?
SHEEP I tell you...........BAAAAAAAA.......
Which would YOU choose?
Hi, MT's!
I'm trying to make a decision about my job, and thought maybe your input would help me put it into perspective. I'm thinking about changing my MT job. I have gone over a long list of the pros & cons, and still am up in the air about it, and hope to make the most informed decision possible. Here's the situation:
I have transcribed since 1975. I have been at my current job for roughly 29 years. Still, I am a long, long way from retirement, if ever. Most likely the earliest that could happen is 2025, but I'll believe it when and if it happens! I have always worked in-house, initially for services, then for a hospital, and for the last 29 I've been at a multispecialty clinic. 20 or more years ago or more, it was a decent place to work, but that has all changed and now it's very stressful. We get blamed for every mistake the doctors make, management communicates with us very little, and what they pay us has not even begun to keep up with the cost of living. Still, on the plus side, my commute isn't too bad, I enjoy the variety of specialties to type, and I have the most seniority. Although our pay isn't so great, we do have paid time off and fairly decent healthcare, though it must be at our own clinic. We have a 401K retirement savings account through work. Our pay is by the hour, with no overtime offered, so we have no opportunities to increase our earnings. I've been saving to buy a condo, but at this rate it's always out of reach.
I have had my eye on a national service lately that seems to be much better than most of what you see offering jobs out there. I have a couple friends who work at home for this service, and they recommend it very highly. The service pays on production, and when I tally my daily work that I'm currently doing and convert it to the service's way of paying the best I can, it at least SEEMS like I could make a lot more money. The service also has a 401K, health insurance, and paid time off. The hours are very flexible, which for me is a huge plus. As long as you do a set minimum amount of lines per pay period, it's all good as far as they're concerned.
Lately I've been so stressed and unhappy in my current job situation that I'm almost ready to take a cut in pay, if that's what it takes, to be able to work at home, where I can control my environment (heat, air-conditioning, light brightness, office ergonomics, etc.) Working at home for a national would also free me up to be able to move to a less expensive area. That would help if the pay WAS less, but if the pay was equal to or more than I'm making now, then I could be socking a lot more of it away towards a down payment on a first home. And if I finally did get to buy that home, being able to take short, "meaningful" breaks from typing (instead of pigging out at the candy-machine) would make it possible to take care of that home, as well.
As it stands now, my list of "pros" for taking the at-home job is quite a bit longer than the "cons". And just the opposite for my current job. My biggest concern is the longevity of either position. I am reasonably sure that bit by bit, MT work in the US is going to diminish. The question is, which one is likely to fold first? Our clinic already sends extra work out to a service, rather than pay us overtime to do it. Over the years our MT Dept. has shrunk considerably. The more it shrinks, the more work gets sent out. Although we are told otherwise, my gut feeling tells me that it will continue in this manner until the department is eventually closed, and all the work gets sent out.
But, when I read all the message boards here, and people working for MT services talk about how much of their company's work is being sent to India, or being partially transcribed with VR, I have to wonder how much longer "live" MTs are going to be around in the service venue, as well. And I don't think being an Editor wouldn't be an option for me, either. Not only would I be bored to tears, but instead of paying more than MT, which it should be, it appears to pay quite a bit less.
So, if you knew you weren't going to be retiring in the next 5-10 years, and you wanted to continue being an MT (it's the only thing I know how to do), do you think there is more security in staying with a long-term employer that not only very callous towards its employees, but is slowly but surely whittling away at their transcription department? Or would you take the "unknown road", and go with what is currently a very viable and successful national company that would let you work at home, but may already be offshoring extra work? (I haven't been able to find out if they actually do or not.) I don't relish the idea of having to "start over" as a new employee, but the idea of having less stress and more freedom also appeals to me quite a bit.
If you were in my shoes, how would you base your decision?
Thanks in advance for any ideas you can throw my way!
Which would YOU choose?
First of all, I think you've answered your own question as to whether or not to stay or leave the company you're with. The Pro's outweigh the Con's. If I were you, the first thing I would do is make sure my 401K was transferrable to my personal account. Many places shut their doors, and with them go the employess 401K's due to a tiny clause that wasn't even brought up. Next, stressful working conditions will eventually cost you your health. I know, been there done that. We're creaturs of habit and have a tendency to stay with what we know and venturing into the "unknown" is always scary. But life is about chances. You don't want to say your "coulda, shoulda, woulda's" down the road once they completely close your MT Department. Yes, many jobs are going to India, Pakistan and Bangledesh, however, if we speak up, call our state reps, write letters and contact Congress letting them know that even THEIR identities maybe be stolen through outsourcing personal medical records then they'll do something about it! The "brass ring" only comes around once or twice in our lifetimes, if I were you, I'd go for it!
which would you choose?
Job A at 9.5 cpl but awful dictators, bad sound quality, speed talkers, cell talkers, ESLs about 90% of the time, blanks in 50% of reports.
Company B: 7.75 cpl easy, long dictations, averaging 9 minutes, 90% English speaking, coherent, slow, pronouncing words, no blanks left all day.
I would choose
Job A, because of the challenge. I would get bored with Job B.
If you choose A, can I have B? nm

Which would you choose. SM
I work at home full-time as an Editor making $15 an hour. I've been offered a position as a pathology Transcriptionist working in the office for a local pathology group. They've offered me $16 per hour with a review in 90 days and a raise to $17 at that time. It's about a 30 minute commute one way to the office.
Which would you choose?
If i were you I would choose.....sm
another field, this field has gone to the DOGS!!!!!!!!!!!!and to India mostly. Pay is awful, they get away with treating ICs like employees and all the GOOD DICTATORS are going to India or the Philippines....
Choose your own name.
RIGHT!!! Someone who works 16 hours and someone who works 60 will have a HUGE difference. NM
.
LOL Yeah, my Mom used to tell me that if I wanted to meet guys,
I had to go where the guys were. If you wanted to meet a jock or a guy who watches sports, go to a football game or something. Home Depot = handy guys. Library = smart guys. Grocery store produce department = desperate guys, especially when they ask you how you can tell the cantaloupe are ripe! I met my guy at a car show = motorhead guy. Sporting goods department = fishing/hunting widow.
Hope I don't meet this patient on the road...sm
"Her job involves a significant amount of ... in addition, working on a cell phone, typing and driving." This could explain some of the drivers I've encountered recently, shew...
Pot, meet kettle. Your posts are all over the board. sm
...just because they are responding, and probably not even as vocal as you've been on here. That just reduces any point you were trying to make to shreds, sounding juvenile and defensive instead of engaging in reasonable debate -- but worst of all, acting like you are superior and somehow smarter than all the rest of us when most of us have known all about this big "news flash" of yours for years now. You say you wouldn't hate others for what they believe in, but when someone spoke up saying they like ASR, you insulted her by saying she must not have been a fast typist then. ASR isn't going away, no matter how many people quit MQ citing that as a reason. Many times, it's not even the MTSOs who sell doctors on ASR - there are companies out there courting the doctors, pumping them up with sales talk about how great it is and how much time/money they'll save. THOSE are the ones the rest of us are aiming at, and wisely so. Think about it, do you think the MTSOs like it when clients go to ASR and lower the rate they are paying the MTSO?? If the MTSO also sells the equipment, maybe. Otherwise, doubtful. It's new technology and MTs must adapt for now, as chances are good it will flame and then fizzle out. MANY, many doctors have already tried it years back, hated it, and returned to traditional dictation. As you've been told, this is NOT a new development so it's not that people don't care; they just aren't as urgently impressed by the rants since it's old news. It lurked on the horizon for a long time before it ever actually hit the shelves and a lot of us researched it prior to it actually being utilized.
Yes, there are plenty of issues that are pulling MTs everywhere down. Offshoring is one of them. Has been for years. ASR/VR is one of them. Has been for YEARS. Maybe this is news to you, but again, most of us have known about these things and been proactive about/against them for YEARS by not accepting lower rates and not offshoring or working for companies that do.
I will reiterate, though, that one of the biggest issues dragging MTs through the mud is something that is perfectly fixable - the BEHAVIOR of some MTs. Unprofessional, juvenile behavior is not considered a desirable quality in any employee. Lack of work ethic and false sense of entitlement are two more traits that are not desirable in an employee. Someone who has only been in the business for a few years but thinks they know more than MTs who worked on manual typewriters is yet another undesirable. MTSOs read this board all the time and take note of these things, and when certain names come up on resumes, they go immediately to the circular file, if you know the flavor of THAT Kool-Aid.
That is making ends meet, not meat by the way.
