After reading all the horror stories on this board - sm
about the flaky way so many MTSO's operate, I think only the newest of the newbies would interview for a position without also interviewing ABOUT the position. It's a 2-way street, you know. If an MT is asking you questions up front, rather than waiting to find out AFTER hiring on with you that the job's not a good fit, that would waste time and money for both of you. It sounds like she looks before she leaps, and that she has a good head on her shoulders. She's obviously interviewing for more than one position, and doesn't want to go any further until she's also checked with a few more job possibilities. Judging by what you wrote in your post, my guess is she's experienced, and doesn't want to get the runaround at a poorly-run or fly-by-night operation.
I've heard other horror stories by adoptees.
Their families telling them they're lucky they got adopted and that they should be more grateful and what not. I swear, people should have to get a license before they become parents. I'll be the first to tell you I was not the best parent in the world, but at least I made sure my daughters knew they were wanted and loved - even during those rare times when they weren't! LOL.
So tell us about her. What type of dog? Funny stories? Sweet stories? Just like when a human pas
sharing of memories can help. I have two dogs, one is 9 and the other 10. I actually cry thinking that something might happen to them, so I cannot imagine how you feel but I do know that "talking" about it can be very healing.
Your instructors really should have told you (sm)
that ANYTHING in the medical field can be difficult to get into if you're a felon. I think I'd be upset with them right now rather than the companies that are turning you down.

People in the medical field are exposed to more personal info than most are, and hence the requirements are stricter. I can imagine it would be extremely frustrating for you after you've "done your time," however. It sounds like some have given you very good advice about contacting an attorney. Will you take it?
nursing shortage includes nurses for instructors...sm
you can't teach nursing classes without nurses to teach the classes - that's part of the shortage and part of the reason why the shortage continues. Also more nurses are going for the bachelor's degree (4 years vs. 2 years) and that is extending the time before they are out in the work force.
One of my instructors referred our class to them a few years back.
I used them for FTP on a paid account (I think it was only like 20 bucks or so a year) and it worked great until a company I signed on with provided their own FTP servers.
Oh horror, horror, horror! sm
Tongue nor heart cannot conceive nor name thee! (With apologies to Mr. Shakespeare.) I was just getting acquainted with DocShuttle when I retired, and it made me tear much of my hair out. If it's the same program. It may have changed in the last three years, but I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole. :(
Sounds like the Amityville horror to me.
:
No horror story for me, but (see inside)
I did regain almost all of the weight I lost (100 pounds). They only operated on body, not my brain, and I am a grazer, which is the major way that weight is regained. But as a member of a large support group, I know many, many people for whom the surgery has been a lifesaver.

Have you checked out www.obesityhelp.com ? Tons of info there.
Friends, really miss Friends :-(
Joey just isn't the same for me
Do a search. The horror tales are true.

I have a tattoo horror story I've been waiting to tell.
It's a bit off color and subject, but it has the word tattoo in it.  Now's as good a time as any.  I once met an Indian man ((feathers, not dots)) that had a tattoo that was evidently a woman's name on his shoulders - from side to side in very BIG letters.  I know the letters were bigger than my hand from tips to wrist.  Okay, I had to ask, and he tole me he had broken up with her, so he took an iron and burned the letters from his shoulders.  I don't know if you know about Indians and keloid scars...needless to say, it was a scar of EPIC proportions.  I was sooooo sorry I asked.    We're a passionate people.
I thought the network had mistakenly cut to a horror film
x
Havn't seen a horror movie sinceSilence of the Lambs. I don't find them
x
Yeah! We would go to the movies for 75c - triple feature horror flicks -
Vincent Price and Boris Karloff. Of course, we were too busy 'making out' to watch the movies! That is, until the usher came by a shined the flashlight on us!
I bet others have better stories than me even!
x
Thanks for your stories! sm
They were very encouraging. I applied with my old company. I doubt they'll take me back, but it's worth a try!
Two different stories on this.
One daughter is a pharmacy tech at a big hospital in Mpls does very well, been there 10 or so years.  The other daughter did it at Walgreens for a over minimum wage but that was in Mpls, too, and you make more at everything up there.  Neither one ever spent money on a course.  But the fomer is certified, she learned it on the job.  The former also has a GED.  I applied at the 'greens and never heard a peep back, guess they want 16-year-olds they can pay minimum wage.  This is the south where you don't get a job of any kind unless you're somebody's cousin.
These were great stories. Thanks!
dd
These are some great stories....thank you...nm
.
My husband is a CPA, and I can tell you stories!
You need to a find a good accountant to set you up and show you the ropes. My husband usually takes new businesses and sets them up with Quicken and provides lots and lots of help as far as payroll taxes, deductions and of course, the business and personal tax returns that you file. This is NOT a do-it-yourself job! He has been brought in to sort through disasters and clean up DIY messes, and it's horrible. Lots and lots of money gets spent on those sorts of things.

All these stories! My goodness
I switch back and forth each and every day I am working. The place I work for is a teaching hospital, therefore we have interns and those are never on VR. What is hard between working both ways? Another story that really just does not make sense.
my addy for doxie stories

please write to me at frgill2@hotmail.com if you want - like to keep in touch with all the humorous things/pictures, etc that are doxie related.

thanks

I love reading stories like this!
It makes me realize that I CAN do it! I'm a new MT, so I'm going to get a couple of years experience first. Then I'm going to go out and get my own accounts. Thank you. Keep posting positive things--it's so helpful!
I don't know, I found quite a few of these stories on searching.....
Here's another:

I suspect we will see stories like these more and more on both sides soon

Oh, the stories I could tell on the Post Office.
The short story is that since the rates were raised the service has declined. My PM, an acquaintence through my kids' school, doesn't even want to hear my voice on the other end of the line because he knows that something else is messed up.
You got some great responses! These stories

Humans do make mistakes.

Don't feel bad.  It may not be the last your mistake either, brain burps can happen at any time.  No reflection on you or your skills -- it just happens.

Great stories people!!  I read all of them and I been laughing my buttocks off!!

Hey, Brandi! I remember your stories about those days...
lol! Too funny. Yah, you Transquickers certainly did live on the wild side. I'm sure some still do!
Our stories sound so similiar...listen to this

My daughter was in preschool last year, 3 mornings a week. I would hear the same thing about her all the time. At the end of the year, they wanted her to go to the "junior kindergarten" which the school offered.  Looking at the curriculum, it was basically full day preschool, 5 days a week (and since it was a private school, it ran about $310 a month!). Her teacher pulled me aside when I was picking her up one day, just about a year ago, and said that there was no way she was ready for kindergarten. She said she was too "in her own world." She wasn't ready to sit and listen, was immature, etc., etc. I, too, came home and cried. We thought about home school at that point, but I know that I am not disciplined enough for that, just didn't have the time to work and do it as well as seek out social situations for her at the same time. So we just said forget it...we put her in the public school kindergarten. I figured I'd just get calls and notes home from the teacher, until they finally pulled her out when they realized she wasn't ready. So, guess what? No notes, no calls. First teacher conference...she was doing very well. She would ask the teacher a lot of questions that she already knew the answer to, but she was sitting at her table, participating etc. Last teacher conference in March, the teacher said she was just doing amazing. She was an angel and a joy in the class. She does her work, she participates, she gets along with the other kids. On her testing, as far as letters sounds, counting, etc., she's far ahead of where she should be. Again, I went home and cried..because I was so proud and so happy...and yes, I felt that the humiliation of a year ago (that teacher pulled me aside with many other parents around) had been vindicated. Good luck to you. It is going to be okay..really.

News stories do have to obtain permission to
My DS has much experience in this field.

Have you considered writing short stories?
Thank you for sharing your vacation!
Real-Life MT Stories Wanted!
Real-Life MT Stories Wanted!  Diane Fusco, a veteran MT and freelance writer, is compiling stories for a book about what she wished she knew as a beginning MT.  Newbies, old-timers and everyone in between are encouraged to tell her the pros and cons of being an MT.  No real names will be used.  No payment but I will give you a copy of the book if I use your story.  Thanks for reading this! Email Diane at Karelia30[at]aol.com
I do not have any compromising stories about him, but lemme tell you about a silent partner doctor

A little help from my *friends*
I have been doing this for 36 years and I have used word expanders and normals for more than 20 years.  It sure helps when you are typing *the patient* practically every paragraph.  I just type tpt and viola...same with the headings, Review of Systems, etc.  Every little bit helps.  To those who dont use expanders and normals, just think how much more money you could be making and how less tired and sore you would be at the end of the day.  *Long live the expanders*.
friends
My daughter is 20 and I still can't stand her friends...........
friends.
Excellent post. Your kids are lucky to have parents like you and your husband.

One of my friends did that...
for the exact same reason.  However, their first ceremony was private, and they did not expect anyone to give them gifts for both weddings.  But in your case, I would think a gift for the first wedding would be more helpful to them since they may not have all the things they need for their home together.  I certainly would not feel the need to buy for both ceremonies.
have many friends? lol
lololol
Looking for old friends

I have been trying to locate some people form my old High School - Figured with all of you out there someone might know someone and pass this on. I went to Garrett Hign School during 1977 thru 1981.

Sonia Suppan Bugher and Carissa Babson Snyder

Lost track of them many years ago, and there are so many people looking for them now - we were all concerned when they disappeared. Last I heard Carissa was in NC and Sonia in Oklahoma. Tried classmates.com and theya r elisted as "missing" LOL. Who knows maybe they are MT's too.

You are in need of some friends.
Q
I have friends here in ND who say it too.
And, I grew up with an English teacher for my mother, so I know what you mean. Always corrected but now I have a great grasp of the English language.
I'm not saying I want to be best friends with my supervisor,

I rarely take time off unless its an emergency, in fact its been a couple years, and not too long ago there was an emergency with my health.  My supervisor only told me she needed me on working asap, did not inquire about my health, wish me well or to get better.  Its just work work work...which seems kind of cold to me.

When I worked for a local office and knew them for years, as for favors, meaning i'll work my fingers to the bone, settle for  getting no raises whatsoever, not complain, just give me work that i'm the most proficient at so we both win, like predominantly operative reports or maybe even psych.

friends and family to appreciate me at my job?
I doubt you're getting raises and I doubt you use your money for "others" and you as well are a poor judge of character.  This initial post was about supervisors interacting more with their MTs so we can put a face with the name and feel like we have someone in our corner, being that we are so remote from coworkers.  Obviously, we disagree, lets agree to do that much.  You just sit and type away and collect your paycheck.
Oh, I don't know. I've got way more friends now than ever before.
I know all the parents at the school. It's so funny. When I used to work fulltime outside the home, nobody ever waved to me at the schools and hardly anybody came to the kids' birthday parties. If I had a day off and picked up the kids at the school, I'd watch all the other parents talking together but was never included. Now I'm part of it all. I get invited to go to the gym and do coffee or lunch. It's great! I never had time for any of it before.
Going into medicine. I have 2 MT friends
who are already in medical school. One MT I worked with at a large hospital is now an anesthesiologist making about $300K a year. Hahaha Should I hope to do so well. Hahaha

Know 1 who is a psychotherapist now. Know 1 who got her MBA and works in government contracting and 1 who got his MS and works for JCAHO.

Lots of things to do out there! It's much easier to decide what you want to do now that you're experienced in life and know what the real investments and rewards are. I'd go on to commercial flight school if I weren't going into medicine. I have a private license. Would LOVE to be Lear certified! Would love to fly a medical helicopter. You can get funding for those flight programs, too! Not a traditional classroom setup. If I don't get into med school, I may be doing that! Hahaha

why does she invite the friends?
what if it these 2-3 couples that she invites over do not have family that they can visit during the holidays? that could be why she has them over every holiday.
lost friends
Have you tried Reunion.com?
My best friend in high school found me after ten years recently. He found me on reunion.com, and then found my phone number on superpages.com and contacted me. We had both been looking for each other for ten years, and finally he found me. Good luck!
Or his kids' friends...LOL

I have plenty of friends...sm

that I know from different places, clubs included, but that doesn't mean that I'm having an affair with any of them...male or female! Before I was married my best friend and I went to a particular club to dance...it was great exercise and more fun than going to a gym. I made several friends there who are strictly friends. We were all single, enjoyed each other's company, and liked to dance...nothing nasty ever went on. In fact, many times my male friends made it easy to shake men whose attention I didn't want. Sometimes people go out just because it is more fun than watching TV. Hubby and I went to the club a couple of weeks ago and I introduced him to people that I knew there. I would hate to think that because I introduced him to people that he would think I'm having an affair. I don't know if I'd be more hurt because he didn't trust me, or because he thought I was dumb enough to take him someplace and introduce him to someone I would have an affair with!

I would also hate to think that my husband would search my cell phone and check the numbers he didn't recognize. My son is in the military and at times his friends have called because they consider me a second mom or are trying to get in touch with my son. Nevermind that just about everyone has had someone call their phone and it has been a wrong number!

If someone gave me a real reason to check up on them, I probably would, but to check up on someone 'just to be sure' is insulting. If someone I care about can't come to me and talk rationally about their fears, then we don't have much of a relationship!

So, you are friends with his wife?
I loved watching his shows...so sad. Hope his family is making it through this okay.
