I would just supply one digital copy, either send the work back

via an FTP site or email attachment or whatever, or keep addending to a CD, but let them keep their own archives. And why can't they print when you deliver the CD or the work in digital format? I don't do any printing at all. Everything goes back digital and they keep their own copies. Once I bill for the month, everything gets deleted, as it should be under HIPAA.

CC... mind if I copy this verbatim and send as well?

When you want work they do not have to supply any
So, if they do not like the fact you jump as soon as it comes in, or if you get a headache and they get annoyed, for example, they do not have to supply you with work any longer. This leads to the IC jumping at the client's whims and rules, or flat out finding another client. These days, though, IMHO, it is hard to find a client which does not withdraw work if you don't meet their criteria. Guess it is part of the TAT, competition going on everywhere.
How to copy files back
Hey!  I use an FTP server and Express Scribe.  I know how to get the files to my hard drive from the FTP server.  But copying them back is another story.  I was told to copy (as in highlight and hit Ctrl-C) then put my cursor on top of the folder I need them into and hit Ctrl-V.  It does not owrk for me.  So I have to email them in.  Is that how you copy them into the server?  I think, perhaps, I was not instructed properly?  Or, perhaps, the server is not set to allow me to do that?
Maybe I will send it back.
Yes, maybe that's what I will do!! Tell them that they might need it more than me when all the lawsuits are over.
Wouldn't you love to send it back and say
"and it's a good think you use YOUR spellchecker, Ms. Boss Lady!"

I've gotten these kinds of emails numerous times and it steams the heck out of me.
Why can't you send the notes back by email
them in the hospital?  That's what I used to do.  Zipped and encrypted the files and they received and printed them at the hospital.
DH ordered it and I made him send it back unopened
I think that was 2005 edition - using 2004 which I found at the time (2004-2005) not to have a lot of the drugs and actually Google and the many, many drug sites were more helpful.  Agree with Wise below.
no, i don't use template features. use hypersend to send back. nm

Lynn has great information. I "went digital" a while back
with trying to use a digital system at my house that recorded the docs as they called in. But the phone lines were too expensive so I switched to FTP. I got a bit overwhelemd by the time I spent routing files (a bunch of different doctors and different subcontractors) and so I finally settled on a TASP, MetroScript.

So to answer your question, in my case with the TASP, my doc records all day with the digital recorder. At the end of the day he logs into my website (at MetroScript) and uploads the files. I can then log into the website and download the files whenever I want.

I travel quite a bit and I use a couple of different computers and so the Internet interface works really well for me. But everyone is different! Good luck!
Had it both ways. Send it back the cheapest way and eat the cost. You don't want to be fighting f

Speaking of offshoring MT work, who does not directly send work offshore?
Just curious.  Has anyone got a list of companies who do not send work offshore?  Precyse?  MQ?  Spheris?
Good. Why dont you send some our way. What office do you work for so I can call and get your work.

That is "web site" in post above. Also, Auto Copy add-on for Firefox will automatically copy
Auto Copy add-on for Firefox AUTOMATICALLY copies what you select (highlight) on a web site to the clipboard.

Then you can paste it in a document.

It just saves the step of right clicking and then clicking on "copy" to put something on the clipboard. Just select it, and it is on the clipboard.

It only works only on web sites-- only copies stuff you select on web sites, i.e. not in other documents.
work out an indexing system that works for you and copy (almost) every report into it.

while Ops offer lot of challenges -- that's a good thing, imho, REALLY ...

I keep my op stored in WORD sorted by

(1) client

(2) specialty (general surgeon, ortho, plastic, podiatrics, ENT, GYN, GI , urology, neurosurgery etc) .... and then in word folders

(3) within speciality, within client I name individual reports like this:

470 hernia vental simple

470 hernia umbilical

470 small bowel resection

=========================================================

470 would be that doctor's id number -- the file holding 470's reports would be named with doctor's last name

=========================================================

works for me, although I do usually do big time "indexing" until I've gota bunch of copied reports.

=========================================================

It's really important to NOT consider these NORMALS until you are more familiar with the dictator ... however... this is worthwhile ANYWAY because the joy of OPs is that most doctors say pretty much the same thing in 80% of their reports ... sometimes more. Gastroenterology and GYN  are excellent "easy money" most of the time but you MUST pay attention and change every difference ...

All these saved reports need to be updated when you review your QA ... those phrases that doctor mumbled yesterday are probably mumbled 24/7/365 ... follow up and record this information.

=========================================================

I use Emedicine for my go-to for a lot of things... while they don't have op reports they are stellar at terminology and spelling, hyphens, and capitalization as far as I can tell.

One of the fabulous things about op reports is usually NO MEDICATION LOOKUPS!!!! (although you will spend time finding out the latest heart stents, hip replacemetn component marketing  names, etc. ) Most medical device manufacturers have "pretty good" web sites -- use them, rather than relative Google popularity wrt spelling, caps, etc.

Good luck -- there is a learning curve but imho it is more than worth it -- Surgeons understand that their dictation is in essence their "BILL" when it comes to Medicare and insurance -- they have a vested interest in it being intelligible and complete ... they may talk really fast but most of the time, if you have samples, you will find they are saying variations of the "same thing" using the same words/terminology.

Oh, and OP pay better.

Sincerely, good luck.!

How do you copy your SH file to text - do you copy each dictionary separately? nm

A co I used to work for would send me
hard copies of supposedly MY reports with errors. I would instantly know it wasn't my work, and would look at the MT ID # at the bottom of the report - NOPE, not mine. Naturally they were sending me the worst MT's reports, too, but I was fairly certain it was the person mailing them that was making the errors because my QA scores were very good.
I say let them try to send all of their work offshore
I think they would end up with some unhappy clients.
unfortunately they send work to other countries

they offshore to other countries from the usa because what's important to most dictators, and again unfortunately, is the cheapest price they will get for transcription......now, I didn't say they would receive good quality MT work back - but they will only be paying 3, 4 or 5 cpl for that offshore work.....so they have chosen to COMPROMISE QUALITY!!!!  Blechhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Do you normally send your work each day as 1 email ? - sm
If that is the case, then make sure you save all the sent emails (I save it all) and then all you have to do is bring up her email address, select all the appropriate emails that were all ready sent, hit forward for all of them and enter in her email. Should take you less than 5 minutes to do all this and be relatively painless. --- if this does not work, yes, go for the billing route, she should be saving the work or at least keeping a backup copy of it for a min. of 3 months. I could see a file now and then but not all the time as she is doing. Very disorganized. Good luck.
Need a C-phone for work. Can I use a digital transcriber sm

I have 2 digital work stations.  One is Bytescribe call-in system.  The other is Philips station.  Neither have the actual phone part that you pick up.  I can call in to different numbers to get work.  Does anyone know if this will work?  I need a "C-phone" to get work for a new job, and I don't know if I should buy one or what.  I posted before, but no one answered.  Just thought I'd try and ask again.  Thanks.

I use Vance Digital. Jay is great to work with.

Question about DAC digital work stations.

I have a DAC digital workstation and I dial into a DVI system to transcribe.  I have horrible static whenever I transcribe.  The phone line is clear as a bell when I talk on the line, but when I am using my digital station, it is horrible.  I have tried two different DAC models and have the same problems with both.

Any suggestions?

Transcend does not send work offshores...sm

Does anyone send cards or anything to the office they work for? (sm)

Years ago when I worked for a smaller company a bunch of us made a big  box of goodies and mailed it to the office.  They were such great people, helpful and cheerful. The company always sent us something and we didn't want to just send to the owner of the company so we felt a card in a box of goodies everyone could share.  Smaller places have more of a personal feel .

Now I work for a larger company and home made goodies may not be such a good idea. (The shipping alone would be a killer.)  I guess a card addressed to "everyone" will have to do it.  Thought about having X-mas cards made up with  my family picture on it and sending that to kind of help them also put a face to the name.  Too much?  Think I would be better off with just a standard card?

Those of you that are doing anything for the office you work out of, what are you doing?  Would love to "borrow" a really good idea.

TIA

They'll send an email out when they need extra work done.
The bonuses are tied to taking on extra work on top of your regular workload, not production or longevity.  It's per extra shift or per extra report on backlogged accounts.  Call and talk to them if you have any questions.
Transcend Services doesn't send work outside of the US.

Keystrokes does not and will not send work out of the United States. nm

First off I am a MT myself, not a company and have no idea why they are soliciting work from individuals, unless they think we will sub-contract it to them.

I do tapes and digital. And I was told if I'm not logged into the digital system, they assume I&

BUT she wants me logged into the system by 9:30 a.m.  So I'm confused too.  I've decided that I may come back to her and just say I'm not going to do the tapes anymore.  I hate the tapes anyway.  The voice quality is horrible, it fades in and out.  It takes me twice as long to transcribe their tapes than the digital.

Yes, you get back to work now. Go back to
some routine, and it does start to hurt less. I know  And remember, she is still there at work with you. Always will be. I figure at this point I have a whole herd of loved dogs under my desk each day - along with a couple horses, hamsters, parakeets, rabbits...If only I could see them - must be quite a happy zoo! But I know they are all there I sense their love.

Back to work
I started working 2 or 3 weeks after I delivered via C section. I might have even been back sooner but I had twins. But I am only part time and ~at the time~ had a flexible schedule.

Good luck! A bit of advice, don't resume a regular diet right after the C section. Liquid diet the first 24 hours. Soft diet the next 24. Then resume regular diet, as tolerated. Take it from someone who ended up with a bowel obstruction and NG tube (terrible!!!!) because the nurses said GO AHEAD AND EAT!!! when the cafeteria brought me chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, some kind of veggie, and a dinner roll.
Let's take the work back!
I agree that unionizing is not the answer at this point. I would like to see us take the work back from the MTSOs from the hospitals and physician offices. Let us talk to our local medical facilities, explain what is happening with their work (nationals, overseas), and ask for a chance to prove ourselves. If we offer a reasonable rate and perhaps even a small free sample of our work, maybe, just maybe, we will find facilities ready for a change back to a more personal transcription setting.

No, I don't have all the answers - wish I did - but this is my suggestion, and the only one I can think of at this point. I am one of those MTs who has been an MT for 20+ years who has seen a decrease in pay, as many of you have also seen.

I will read with interest any other reasonable suggestions from my fellow MTs.
I use a little handheld digital timer from Pyrex (our oven timer doesn't work) - sm
and it's great, has two digital windows, clock on top, counter (which is what I use) on the bottem, then you can switch "modes" to a screen with 2 timers if that is what you want. Cost about $10. So I time myself more now since it helps me buckle down and I see who I am fastest at this way.....average anywhere from 12-18 minutes of dictation an hour doing this--- unfortunately I spend too much time looking up addresses but I hope my address directory will be to the point one day where I don't have to look up anymore (or at least not much). Have fun.
ProScript Documentation Services does not send work overseas or employ any overseas MTs. (nm)

one last comment for me, then I'm back to work. sm
Consider that someone (lets say Magdelena) is Buddhist (or whatever) and Jesus is "just a nice guy" in her opinion.

Then lets say she led an exemplary life, servitude to others, love of mankind, everything "good".

Then lets say Jesus was THE only path. Would Jesus, a man of his magnitude, deny Magdelena the kingdom of Heaven if she lived her life with Jesus' principles but didn't believe he existed. I think not. He would say, pleased to meet you and come on in!
Frank, I will go get back to work as soon as I
fix my makeup and put shine serum in my hair to look beautiful typing today for you.
sending back work
I have made it a point to learn the *hard* doctors, cause they are sent to me quite a bit, cause MQ knows I can do the *hard* doctors..Its crummy having to learn them and knowing you are losing money in the process but once you learn the *hard* doctors, you know the ones who are ESL or English as third or fourth language (smile), you can do them and then it is no big deal.  Yesterday, I got a half transcribed report with at least seven blanks for Q/A..I was able to do the report with no blanks cause I have learned this doctor, who has what I think is a Middle Eastern French accent..He is quite hard but I can do him as I have learned him over the years (since 2000).  Practice makes perfect and the way transcription is going with voice recognition, I think the only transcriptionists who will be left in the end are the ones who can do the ESL, mumblers, speed talkers or speech impediment doctors, the ones who voice recognition cannot do.
Made more back then, did not work
for a large service, had my own business and also worked for a clinic, better pay.  Services are stingy.  I hard one complaining because half their expenses were MT salaries.  I asked him why don't you just get rid of the MTs, then you won't have to pay them.  Cheapskates.
