The company I work for raise the line rate every two years.  I rely a lot on my Expander program.  Good luck!

Union diesil mechanic - good pay, great benefits. We swap year to year on who brings home more sm
money.....but I am an IC and he has all the benefits...health insurance/dental that the company pays for, pension plan, 401k, etc.  Factor all of that in and he makes way more than I do.
1 Year Experience / Can't Find Job
I graduated from Northwestern Technical College in April 2004 with a certificate in Medical Transcription. I immediately got a job at a local hospital in the Radiology Department transcribing nuclear medicine studies. I stayed PRN for one year, and had to leave to accept a job that offered insurance (as a receptionist, NOT a transcriptionist). I am now seeking to work from home. I will be eligible for insurance with my husband as of Jan. 1 and benefits are not an issue. I just can't seem to find ANYONE willing to give me a chance, even with one year experience ONSITE. Any suggestions? (I've applied to EVERYWHERE I could, i.e.: OSI, TransHealth, United, etc.)
Work with only a year experience

Well I'm looking for work .. I have a year experience, my current company is 3 cents a line ... ICK but I needed the experience..

HELP any hints....

Need a decent company...

In my 24-year experience, that has not happened. sm
Actually, they let me see the proposals and contracts of their current service so as to provide equal if not better service and fee, etc.

I have to say with just over a year's experience, I'd be more willing to hang on. sm
Typically I would say it is a sign and move on. However, with your experience your options are limited as most companies want more experience under your belt. It wouldn't hurt to look while you wait to get set up and see if you can land another job and then move on, but I would not throw in the towel without having the other one first.
Company suggestions for 1 year experience
Does anyone have any suggestions for companies (nice companies) that will except 1 year exp., just got burnt real bad by SS
Yes if gross line or 65 character line with spaces....Good Deal!!! nm

Please tell me you are not working for .07-.08 per line with 15+ years experience. SM
Sweetie, I would rather work at Walmart than settle for this. Not sure if you were referring to yourself; however, this is what is driving our payscale down. Speaking for myself only, I will not even consider working for a national who pays under .10 line (bare minimum). I have many years of experience and truly appreciate and understand the need to have a job in this field, but there is a fine line to draw. Let's avoid desperation and take back our pride.
My experience has been that the shorter the reports, the more my line count suffers, UNLESS
You have docs who truly repeat themselves day in and day out. Then you can clean up and make some real money with having all kinds of normals. Otherwise, I have found that it slows me down to no end to listen to the stuttering, slow ESLs who never say the same thing and where you feel as if you are typing with just your thumbs. Sorry. :_(
There is really no way to compare number of reports to a line count. The more experience you obtain
faster it will go and the lines will increase so don't give up. All of oldies have been there. Most companies require 1000 to 1200 a day, so you are not far off from that. Just keep plugging along, you will get there. Use Expanders for your most common phrases, words you find you have to look up constantly, etc. for starters to help build your speed.
My experience has been good with CCC. SM
They negotiated a lower interest rate. Do some homework before you choose one. They usually charge $50.
Both are good experience.
I started on two accounts, one editing and one transcription, right after I graduated. The editing position paid 1/2 what the transcription account did. I always made more with transcription and I was able to increase my speed much more with transcription wtih the use of Expanders and templates. I liked the editing, but the pay was just too low.
I did also - experience was good (nm)

I had a good experience with them
I had no trouble with the audio portion, got almost 99% on it. I signed on with one of their companies in 3 days' time, start date June 30. Now my dream of leaving MQ is a reality with a company paying more than MQ, no ASR, 10% ESL! Can't wait!
Pretty good experience here
I was worried about switching, too, since I had read here so many people complaining about line counts being down, but for me I notice a small improvement in my line count on DQS, about 30 lines an hour, but I don't work on DQS regularly, just occasionally, and I think my line count would be a bit higher if I worked on it regularly and got used to using the shortcuts more.  There are a few small things I would tweak on DQS per my preferences, but otherwise I think it's pretty decent and easy to use.
No actually I plan to suck everything out of them at my line rate this year and then quit in January
when they start the new pay plan. Yep, that is exactly what I plan to do. Yep, I have it all planned out. This sick sick lady has it all planned out. The best of MQ is over.
is this the person who makes 1 cent a line extra for $6000 a year?
how many lines a day and what do you normally make in a year because to reach an extra $6000 wouldn't you have to be typing way above average which is say 1200 a day for most of us, or 6000 lines a week.

encouraging someone to get their CMT based on $6000 a year extra, perhaps you could give more details because I have never worked for a company who would do that, not unless perhaps you were also a huge producer of lines.

Thank you...
Good luck..hope you have a better experience..
than I did with them
don't cheat yourself out a really good experience just because of fear...sm
I went to Africa in January to volunteer in a medical clinic for 18 days. Talk about leaving your comfort zone. There were two nights in particular where I really, really, really wished I wasn't there.  But turned out to be a profoundly life changing experience. The word is "feel the fear but do it anyway."
Depends on how much experience you have. I have 26 years, not good for me. nm
nm
Made 60K last year working 50 hours a week being paid on gross line
nm
Heck, yeah! Good pay for 1-1/2 years experience.

I think good money is 50K a year.
x
This is a good time of year to buy.
There are usually good sales in the week before Christmas when retailers are hoping to improve their bottom line. Also, if you wait until January, you may find good bargains from those trying to move stock during a slow time. Personally, I like my Dell. I've had three of them now and really have not had any problems. You can now get them at Staples, too.
Does this seem fair? To charge .16 per line - includes printed reports, copies on disk for one year

and delivery.  I do travel twice a week to this office.  Plus, at times I will fax or email the reports free of charge.  I live in Southern California in an upscale area.

Thanks again!

I agree. It's an impossibility for me even with years of experience AND good dictators. nm
m
35,500 a year is darn good money to me!!!!!
n/m
So I guess they get everything in good sale order right.Well, within a year or so MQ
will have closed their offices save for a few and everyone should be on DEP and they already know ASR is not worthwhile so that would be a good time to sell although it may take more than a year as slow as the accounts are moving to DEP.
going on my 17th year of it and feeling good about things sm
still loving it just as much. I work for a hospital and they just sent us home to type so everything is new again, new system, new challenges. I need to be challenged or I become bored, so enjoy things at the moment.
My daughter's 1 year cancer checkup was good on Tuesday -sm
so I am very happy. She is just past 1 year off chemo (08-17-05). She is on 3-month checkups (has been for the past year) and all looks well so that is always cause for much happiness around here!
Good luck to ya! Hope 2008 is the year of the transcriptionist !
x
a year. After I clean it good I turn it upside down on a towel for a day and then I position it
the heat/air conditioning register so it gets good and dry for about 2 days.  If you don't let it dry good it won't work very well.    I've been washing mine about 2 years.
I have a very good job, top of the line
pay, but my company very rarely advertises because no one leaves.
Good line counts. Do you do 16,000/pay (sm)
working part-time with MQ? How many lines per day are you doing, and how many hours? Hope you don't mind sharing the information.
How to get a good line count on DQS

Yes, and here is another tip that would help a lot of people:

For some reason the DQS mindset is to put everybody on everything.....In other words, they like to put multiple accounts in your pool. The thought here, of course, is to improve TAT on all accounts.

However, the problem is this. One account has certain banned abbreviations while another account has other banned abbreviations. One account has special rules that the next account does not --- and the next account has its own special rules.

Out of 10 reports, you may get 3 ds from account A, 2 ER reports from account B, 1 H&P from account C, 4 ops from account D.

What management needs to understand is that this is NOT productive. You have to stop and rethink the "rules" between each report and check the client profile or make needless mistakes. This may seem to be a small consideration but it definitely impacts speed/production/TAT.

Each MT should make it know in very clear terms (and you may have to repeat yourself every couple of weeks on this) that you can only juggle a certain number of accounts without negatively impacting your production (which impacts their profit margin and TAT by the same level of negativity).

get a good line count
Switching back and forth like that, you can't get a good line count.
good line count on DQS?
my sentiments exactly!!
What is a good per line rate?
Have not worked in a while.  Interview today in an hour.
what is a good line pay rate
I just got hired on for .0975 cpl which is pretty good  I think in today's market. I also get paid for spaces, headers and footers but the characters per line is 74. All in all, I thought this was pretty good but I do have 15 years experience. Also, there is incentive pay as well as bonuses for typing 1000 lines per day. I think I have done pretty well but will have to get started to see first.
OK, so what IS a good line rate

How do I get a good line count...?
...when I keep getting different accounts and different doctors. I see people on here who say they can make 1200 or 1600 lines a day. What kind of account are you on that you can do that consistently. I have been doing this for almost 16 months now and if I am left alone on my usual account, which is a ER account with some pretty bad Southern dictators and a few ESL doctors that no one used to want to do, I can do right around 150 lines and hour, but now it seems that we have lost part of the ER account and I am getting consults and discharge summaries from 3 other accounts with a ton of ESL and no samples for anything. Something like this seems to happen every time I get to where I am getting my lines in a reasonable time. What are some suggestions for increasing my line count on discharge summaries and consults.
Good line counts
The most obvious way to get a good line count is for the MTSO to match up skills of an MT with a specific account and/or doctor. We cross-train our ICs so they can cover another account if their doc is low or another IC is out, but each MT has their primary (or group of primary) dictator.

We also use standardized formats with the headings and even some of the standard exams that some docs use. MPWord is a dream for this.

Another is the amount of time you spend. We have some ICs who work only on one doctor and do not want more than part time and do only 300-500 lines a day. Some do 1000 to 1200 in 8 hours. Others do 1200 to 1500 a day but may work a couple of extra hours. Lots of factors.
What is a good line rate for radiology?
Currently being paid by report, 10 years experience. TIA
I didn't have good luck on-line until...sm
I registered with eHarmony.  I've found the guy that I believe is my soul mate and we're still taking things a day at a time but enjoying every minute of our relationship.
Is 9cpl a good line rate

Getting good line counts with discharges
Are there any secrets?  Normally, I do all operative reports, but recently having to do DS, which I am not accustomed to doing regularly.   How do you increase speed, besides utilizing the ShortHand entries.
If I am figuring it right, its about .0657 a line, not good - sm
I am going on the premise that a word is considered 5 characters (you should ask them what they consider a word), so 1000 words would be 5000 characters/65 = 76 lines. Take 5/76 and you get .0657 a line...also are spaces figured in, from the sounds of it I doubt it. Ask questions.
You can make more than that per line, but at 125 lph, not a good living. Have to do at least 300 lp
x
Good luck, what line are work are you in now? nm
x
A good line count is not possible in most cases.
I work on an average of 8 or 9 diffenent accounts a day, with as many as 16. Of course I was promised a "primary".
What is considered a good line rate...sm
for working 3rd shift (graveyard).  If you work nights, could you let me know what your line rate is?  TIA
