Southern Transcription Services
Any info on Southern Transcription Services would be helpful.
TIA
PS.. It apparently worked..I heard back and already submitted the paperwork back.
I'm not sure how many people they are hiring but you shouldn't stress too hard over it. Do the best you can.
I have never worked for a transcription --sm
company before. Have always had my own clients but lost 3 last year so went with a company. Has anyony ever had a pay per line decrease for not meeting the required daily limit? I started at 10 line for 1600 lpd. Just was told that I dropped to 1345 and would now be making 9 per line. Jobs were extremely low from Nov-now and there were just no jobs to be had. Is this normal procedure?
I worked for them before and went back
to them recently and there wasn't enough work for me to even get my minimum done for training so I left. I don't want to have 2-3 or 4 backups just to get my minimum in so I left again.
Does anyone use DocShuttle and WavPlayer together for their digital transcription? Has it worked out

Back in the days when we all worked in an office
we got this new manager who I disliked immediately. She couldn't spell every day words, she had absolutely no background in MT and figured she was doing somebody to get the position. We had been promised an MT as our next manager. She said she could type 85 wpm and she believed she could handle the job - HA. We had an MT come in to interview and test and she had to ask me how to turn on the computer and how to print the report. They company lost the account and it closed down that office and the manager couldn't get another job and had to move back home with mom and dad.
I had a man looking for his wife to be able to do something where they could work and travel and he said his wife had a business degree and he felt she could do the job too. I also had an associate whose husband got fired AGAIN and she called me wanting to know how she could do what I do, like she could start tomorrow.
I've decided I'm going to tell people I'm a medical langauge specialist from now on and when they ask me what that is I'm going to say I'm a translator.
I taped my back in the days, which worked.

I worked at Home Depot awhile back
for 3 years in the paint department. I have done them all and also taught the classes on Sundays. You might want to call your local Home Depot and ask when they have their paint classes. Lots of information, and they should let you try out the techniques as well.
OMGosh. You too??!! I'm hoping to get back into transcription here in the next week or so (sm)
and I am dreading it big-time.... I know when I had to retype a report while QA I was not only S L O W - but WOW (!!) what a humbling experience..... Much easier to verify what is in front of you than to dream it up yourself!!
I've worked for svl places that said to change it back to 100% before sending, so it must affect

Worked in clinic for 30 yrs and have tinnitus. I am used to back ground noise, hard to work
:+
I worked for Cbay for 3 years. I was also part of their lay off back many years ago. sm
Even though I got stuck in a lay off era, I still love the company. They paid well then. The people were nice (exception of 1 person) and if I had the opportunity I would go back again. Fortunately (or unfortunately - depending on how u look at it), I have a great paying job right now, so I am not looking for a change. I do know that at one time, they asked management to accept late paychecks, but never sure of the reason why. My check was never late.
southern accents
Being a Yankee who now lives in the south, I can relate! Had far more trouble with the southern dictators than with the foreign ones.
And yest, those British & Australian ones are sexy!
Un no, not Kiki...but I am southern! sm
we all use those words down here...and by "thang" I meant like "aint nothing but a thang..." which means really not that important...just FYI...NOT Kiki...whoever that is...
I prefer non-Southern accents
I'm from the south but lived out of the area for several years. My favorite accents are Northeast and MidWest. For a while I did MT for a hospital in rural Alabama where a resident from Cuba was working. He had acquired a number of southern altruisms that cracked me up with his thick Hispanic accent. I'll never forget when he treated an elderly woman who had received a rattlesnack bite to her foot through her "teenie shoes." (if I hadn't been from the south, I wouldn't have known he was referring to "tennis shoes!")
Once my dryer needed servicing and the repair man came out. After talking for a while I asked if he was from somewhere near southern Russia because of his accent. He got so excited that someone knew the geographic area of his origin! He was from a tiny little country bordering southern Russia! (one of my neurologists was from Russia). I love to try to place someone's accents
d~
I have a bad time with southern accents too
Their words just sort of fall into one another and it seems like they put emphasis on the wrong part of the word, so I need to concentrate with them. The worst however is the Chinese accent by far. Especially when they do try to slow down and enunciate, it makes it worse.
I have noticed the southern accent. I like it. Don't like BO though. LOL. nm

I have as much trouble with southern (USA) accents (sm)
as I do with most ESLs!
I know the lady had a southern accent. nm

Yes!! Matthew, hunky southern gentlman.
My mom is from the south. Thanks to that I have no problem with southern accents. nm

BellSOUTH (keyword)....8-9 southern states!!!.
southern, northern, eastern, western--sm
what difference does it make where anybody is from...how about being a *bleeding heart* for ALL life...not just human and not just animals. God gave everything that breathes life, and we should respect that. human or animal. JMO
I'd guess male, but if it's Southern, all bets are off.

I'm in southern NY, 2hrs. north of NYC. One of the helpers on MTD is from upper NY, too. nm

Algarve, southern Portugal, wonderful spas
easy access to ancient castles, Spain, the larger cities of Lisbon and Oporto, next door to Morroco, wonderful free seafood, beaches. I could go on...
I live in a small Southern town and they have posted pictures of sm
people convicted of passing bad checks in the newspaper. How humiliating would that be?
By posting the bad checks, they see your name, but by posting your picture, they could recognize who you are.
I was told 12 cents per line in Southern California was too high (sm)
They can stick it because they should be paying 18 cents per line.
There is too much EMR and offshoring around here.
Southern fried chicken. We're having friend over, too. I love it but
I can only eat fried chicken once in a while. Makin SMASHED (taters, eh?), blackeyed peas and green beans with pepper sauce.
My worst are both slow-speaking, hoarse-voiced Southern gentlemen.
Every company is different -- I worked FT for one as an employee but worked a split shift - sm
So I never took breaks. I would work 5 hours, break for about 4 hours then do another 3. Another company I worked for did not care what hours you worked (IC) but wanted a min. amount of work each day, 500 for PT and 1000 for FT-- BUT they paid you by how many lines an hour you put out, the higher the lph the higher up the scale you made per line in pay; they have since changed everyone to a flat rate with incentive. But bottom line, if you are an IC it does not matter what hours you work, though many ask for a schedule and ask you to stick to it, they just want you to meet line requirements daily, i.e. 1000 per day, 1200 per day, whatever it is.
Agree, verbatim transcription equals poor quality transcription.

I got up early, worked during naps, and worked when DH got home.
You have to be disciplined to make yourself work when baby is napping instead of maybe watching TV or doing housework, etc.
I might also go the route of having a teen come into your home, or either trying a mother's morning out program at a local church/daycare. I've been home since my youngest was born and he has never been in all-day daycare, but I did have him in a mother's morning out program 15 hours a week at a local church. It didn't help a lot with my work schedule because I had an older son in school and was a room mom and tutored other kids, but that might be an option. The only problem with the mother's morning out program is they are around other kids and tend to pick up every germ. I finally took my DS out of the program because he stayed sick. You were supposed to keep them off if they had green nasal discharge and I did, but no one else did. Every time I got him well after 2 to 3 days back he would be sick again. Other than that it was very good for him because he would not have had a chance to be around kids his age otherwise.
Know AIM transcription system, never heard of Hull transcription. Are you sure
you are not thinking about DHull who is a recruiter for MDI-FL? They use the AIM system.
With short arms, I need chair with shallow seat, good back support and high back. Want arm rests

OK! I'm glad you're back down here. Now don't go back up there and read those evil posts ag
Okay? But I have to leave you now, sadly. Thousands of noble dictating doctors are anxiously awaiting my help with their "dictations"....They're all loading up on chips, drinking lots of soda so they can burp, and then have to go to the bathroom...You know the routine! Off I go to earn some pennies!! But, truly, I am thankful that I have a job!
The great southern coffee... Community Coffee...
People who grew up with it and have moved have it sent to them now or stock up when they visit Louisiana.
I would not do them back to back - I have done 2 and 3 jobs at the same time -- all PT - sm
It is possible to do of course but you will burn out fast. Now I do one almost FT (about 30 hours a week) and the other is about 8-10 hours a week-- I still get beat doing that and that is w/o set hours. I find that the older I get the harder it is to work late and I am only 40! But a mid afternoon 30-minute cat nap helps a lot in order to keep going on busy days.
How do you set your computer back 1 day. I messed something up and need to go back 1 day.

I worked on that system when I worked there...
The thing that chapped my hide about that TWS was that they designed it so that all the headers of each section of the report were canned and thus you were not paid for them, even though you had to take your hand off the keyboard and mouse down a list of paragraph headers to chose the one you needed. Just racking up more profits for themselves. Ticks me off.
that is what is being worked out, and has been worked on for the last few years already...only
why are we just hearing this now? I know voice recog has been around, but this is entirely different. This will also make coding and billing obsolete.
Don't know why, but it just bothers me that one of our 'own' is the one pushing this...and she is also connected with AAMT. Do they support this, and if so, what is their advice I wonder to the MT?
Perhaps that is one question for their website (I do not subscribe to their mag or credentials...)
Thanks, for the input!
Yes, you get back to work now. Go back to
some routine, and it does start to hurt less. I know And remember, she is still there at work with you. Always will be. I figure at this point I have a whole herd of loved dogs under my desk each day - along with a couple horses, hamsters, parakeets, rabbits...If only I could see them - must be quite a happy zoo! But I know they are all there I sense their love.
Thanks, that worked for me! nm
xx
TY, TY, TY, that worked. nm
This one worked for AT&T. I was trying to pay
my bill in advance, but you cannot just do that, you have to talk to the credit department. Well, too bad, I no longer use AT&T.
I did not say I worked for SS. I don't know
even know what company SS is? I work for a company where I get paid for spaces. As for transcribing about 65% ESL charts, I typed the same 2 doctors over and over yesterday who love to stat their charts. I had nothing but them my first 3 hours of work. I was beginning to think that all the other doctors had quit and left them to do everybody's work because I had nothing but them. It seems on Saturday and Sunday my work is filled with nothing but ESLs because they are the only ones who like working on weekends. The rest of the week is not so bad but the weekends are the worst for ESL coverage.
OSi is probably the BEST I have ever worked for - sm
I have worked for OSi for almost a year now, and they are BY FAR the most flexible, best paying, most caring management, and have never felt like I was "just" a transcriptionist. There are so many bonuses, GIFTS out of the blue.... great company, very stable...
I worked for them
Briefly, it was a major problem. From the training to the getting back with me to helping out and getting things staright. They have a lack of management skills to say the least. I left them due to this. Maybe things would be different for you.
Good LUCK
I worked for a nut (sm)
who always wanted perfect documents. Even worse was when I found out there were other MTs making a bunch of mistakes and leaving a lot of blanks on the same account! So I was to do perfect documents while the others were turning in crap? No less than 8 mistakes or blanks on one page?
I finally wisened up and quit. They're always behind and looking for people, I wonder why, duh.
