I work in Meditech for a radiology account and have no lag time. sm

There are a few things to try that might help. The first is to try to go through an NT connection if possible through their Citrix. Another is: Disable your virus protection, log in and re-enable the virus protection. I have found this solved my problem.

I am also answering your cut and paste question from your other post: It is HIPPA as the possibility of putting the wrong report on the wrong patient exists. However, I would go above or beyond your company's IS dept (they tend to be the most paranoid) and go to a production person such a Lead or Coordinator or even MTSO. If they are MTs, they tend to be more sympathetic and will often allow cut and paste when IS will not. If you are the only person experiencing this, IS is not going to be too diligent in helping. Worst case scenario? Ask for another account. Sometimes it is an account-specific, computer-specific problem, almost like putting the wrong size tape in a tape player.

Same thing with nationals. You work all the time to keep the account caught up when others dont work
and then when they decide to put a whole lot of extra people on your accounts and run you out they could care less about how much you worked.
Meditech/radiology
Does anyone know if there is a way to get a line count in Meditech's radiology platform.  Each report has a line counter at the top but that is all lines including blanks.  MP count (Free program) does not work.  Meditech has its own character counter/line counter for other reports.  Just wondering if they did for radiology.
Meditech radiology help please
Hi: Does anyone know how to change the Transcriptionist on a rad report already transcribed in Meditech?  This could cause legal issues if a report is placed in held, and then another MT goes in and finishes it, leaving the first MT's initials in place.  We can just delete the whole thing and start again, which is what I do, but I cannot trust others to do the same.  Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
Meditech radiology MT question...please help.
For several years now, I have had my own account with a small hospital.  I do most if not all their transcription including radiology.  Radiology usually takes me anywhere from 2-3 hours to do a day, depending on the radiologist (which consists of 2-3 with alternating weeks).  I also work for a national part time doing ops which I love doing.  The radiology reports for this hospital has increased over the years which I thought was good but when I compared it to what I was making in those 2-3 hours to what I was making with the national part time there was a huge difference. (I get paid per minute by the hospital). I was thinking about asking the hospital to pay me differently for the rad reports since it does take me quiet a bit longer for these reports with all the different screens and lookups that I am doing because the rad doctors will not provide the info.  What I want to know is what MTs who work rad Meditech charges so I can have some idea what to ask for.  TIA
Meditech Radiology question, please help
Okay, after much worrying over, I have decided to ask client to be paid by line versus minute for rad reports.  I have one problem. Is there a way to count lines in the Meditech system without having to due it manually.  I know it counts lines for acute care but radiology runs differently and can not find a way to count lines other than manually after each report.
Have been doing radiology on Meditech for 15 years
It just depends on the version the hospital is using.  It does have a spellcheck but again it depends on what is in it.  I was there from the beginning so I had to input a lot of things through the years.  The only Expander I found that works with Meditech is Shorthand.
I have a radiology account and do --sm
x-rays, MRI, CAT scans, CT, ECHO, EKG, Mammograms, Cardiac stress tests, Nuclear medicine scans, ultrasounds, fluoroscopy studies.
Thanks for your input. We type regular medical reports in Meditech and radiology in Cerner. SM

I am really considering presenting the idea that we measure productivity on minutes transcribed instead of lines.  I don't know if management will go for it, but it seems like the best scenario considering all the trouble we've had.

Thanks again!

Radiology account question
How does your company handle covering your radiology account? It seems that you have no way or predicting when radiologists will dictate so how do they hande it? I am experiencing sometimes they get on early and dictate and sometimes at night. This makes it hard to get turnaround or have a life. It is so unpredictable. If you do not work when the work is there though you do not get paid. I wonder if there is a turnaround time like radiology has the doctors or hospitals could have certain guidelines for dictating. I do not know but I am frustrated. I love radiology and my account but it is really causing problems at my house being on call all the time like I seem to be.
Radiology account questions
I am getting ready to start a new radiology account and I was wondering about the going rate for MTs who do radiology any ideas would be great. I have not done radiology in quite a number of years, let alone pay anyone to help me and I want to make sure that I offer a decent line rate to the MTs. I don't want to take advantage of anyone and I am not sure what the going rate is right now. It will be a 65 character line count with spaces. TIA for your suggestions.
Radiology is getting hit big time. Stand alone imaging centers especially.
Radiologists and lawyers usually mix about as well as oil and water. But radiology's near-term future could depend on the efforts of an Alabama attorney who is fighting a one-man battle to overturn legislation that could devastate the independent imaging center industry.

Jim Zeigler is an elder care attorney and self-described Republican activist who has taken issue with the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2005, legislation enacted earlier this year that makes cuts to a wide range of federal government services. In radiology, the legislation specifically cuts $2.8 billion in Medicare payments for imaging services conducted in out-of-hospital settings.

Mr. Zeigler's beef is with the changes the DRA has made to the way Medicaid calculates how people can qualify for federal nursing home assistance. He might be just another gadfly if it weren't for one fatal flaw in the legislation -- a key difference in the versions of the bills passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives wasn't properly reconciled, as required by the U.S. Constitution.

We're featuring a Q&A interview with Mr. Zeigler in our Imaging Center Digital Community, in which he explains his objections to the DRA and what the radiology community can do to help. Read all about it by going to http://www.auntminnie.com/index.asp?Sec=sup&Sub=imc&Pag=dis&ItemId=70190&wf=770.

Does Meditech work with
I am not sure what version of Meditech, but I connect to a VPN/Citrix to get to it and type in word that is on the system. Another one I can't use Smartype with *sigh*, just really not liking ShortHand and I'm afraid I will be stuck with it!
Tell her your account slowed down and you don't need her at this time.
When it picks up, you will call her. Or you lost a client and don't need her services any longer.

You have to fend for yourself!!

Good Luck in whatever you decide.
Can someone tell me kinda what it's like to work on Meditech? nm

Meditech - Enter key will not work. Help!! sm
My enter key will not work with Meditech.  I have changed out keyboards, tried wireless, wired, et cetera.  I have had someone log in with my password and it works for them.  I have logged in with other passwords and it will not work.  Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
Does Smartype work with Meditech?

Does anyone know if Smartype will work with Meditech??

when an account goes out of turn around time, what does that cost

the company?  does the client not have to pay or is there a lowered price for being out of TAT?  the reason i ask is i am on an account that seems way out of TAT and it seems if they offer a bonus to get the account done, it would be better than being out of TAT and losing money on it.  anybody know how TAT affects the nationals financially and why when things are falling behind they don't offer bonuses to catch up.

thanks to anyone who may have any answers on this.

Does Flashtype work in all Meditech versions?
nm
There is no guarantee that FlashType will work in Meditech although
it works in most Windows environments.  It does work in many platforms and all stand alone word processors, email programs, instant messengers.
I work in Meditech and love it. Like anything else, you have to get used to it. There are two vers
is awesome. The other is OK but it depends on the hospital. I worked at home for a hospital that used it and it was slow. I work for a service now that uses it and there is no lag time at all. It is radiology, so that might make a difference, not sure.
Spellcheck is shift F9 in Meditech. SH should work also. nm

MEDITECH Version 5.61 Spellchecker work?

RAD MT new to Meditech Version 5.61 doing radiology - anyone know how to activate spellchecker?? Any infor appreciated.

Thanks.

I loved my account with Spheris, but had a hard time
punching in and out.  I worked originally for Healthscribe and then they merged with Spheris.  Things didn't change for quite a while and then all of a sudden things took a crappy turn for the worse.  I ended up with at least 5 accounts that I was in daily.  I went from having to punch in and out and being required to work full time hours to stay a full time employee even though I could get my work done in part time hours.  I didn't stick around and after 2 years with Healthscribe I left shortly after the merge was starting to take shape.  Like I said, the biggest problem was punching in and out.  Good luck.
maybe you should pick up an extra account so you have something to do with all that free time OR
get a job doing QA. You sound like a frustrated QA person.
Radiology Work-Keystrokes

Any information on Keystrokes radiology.  They have several adds with different formats.  One I might be interested in but afraid to take the plunge.  I have done work for the same two radiologists for 10 years and know what they are going to say before they say it.  What is their rate of pay and are there many ESL?

I work for them. I am happy. I know that they have a lot of radiology but I
do clinic work. I have plenty of work and get paid well. I do not need benefits as my DH is military, but I have heard that they are average.
Does satellite internet work to type into Meditech?

I can't get cable or DSL, and wonder if satellite will work.

Will Meditech work with cable based phone?

Hi all,

I have been offered a MT job with another company that requires me to call into the hospital's Meditech system.  I have never worked on Meditech so I don't have the slightest idea how to use it.  I am used to signing onto my computer and getting right into the system, not having to dial in anywhere.  I'm sure I would get used to it but my phone may be the problem.  I have my phone bundled in with my cable/high speed internet through Time Warner and the MTSO thinks this won't work, that I need something like Fair Point as a dedicated phone line.  Does anyone out there in MT land know anything about this?  The MTSO is anxious to hire and I'm anxious to start a job where I can finally make $ again and I don't want to miss out on this all because of the wrong phone!

Which is the best company to work for that specializes in Radiology?
I would like to know which company is the best to work specializing in Radiology, using Word, for a Transcriptionist with 20+ years experience.  Thank you.
I type radiology, but have done some clinic work
I briefly tried acute care, but felt that was a little too hard to do working from home. I have done some clinic work, which worked out fine. The hardest part of that was learning lab values, specific tests, etc. I feel your pain, as it is very difficult to transition. I've done cardiology, internal medicine, and nephrology clinic notes and have done well with them. Things like wound care can get a little tricky because of all of the terminology with bandages, sutures, etc. My advice would be to get some reference books and maybe try to find a part time job, where your livelihood would not depend on the account, and give it a try! With this job, you won't know if you can do it until you try! I know it's hard with the national companies. They don't like to take time to help you learn. I learned my clinic stuff from local doctor's offices, where they gave me sample reports and I could take as much time as I needed to look stuff up. I wish you luck!
I used to work for a hospital that used Meditech and we found the line counts to be inconsistent. SM

I used to be a supervisor and was trying to find a way to monitor productivity on Meditech and found that line counts fluctuated greatly!  I did all kinds of comparisons - typed reports in word and counted the lines in word with MP Count and then compared it with Meditech and there was sometimes near a 200 line discrepancy at the end of the day.  Then we found that running a line count twice in Meditech on the same MT and same reports would get us two different numbers with about 20 lines difference.

Meditech is just not MT friendly, but unfortunately MTs are at the bottom of the list of considerations when choosing an EMR system.  I gave up and started keeping track of minutes of dictation.

Is Keystrokes a good company for any work type other than radiology? sm

I have seen really good reports on this board (and others) about Keystrokes being the place to be for radiology but have really not seen much discussion regarding other work types.  I am primarily interested in op notes as I understand they will only hire if you have spent the last several years in a particular work type and ops are it for me.  I wonder about their platform, pay scale, flexibility, whether or not weekend work is required, etc.  I have left my email address in case anyone would like to privately email me.  I would really appreciate some input.  Thank you.

I do radiology now, paid by the hour, work from home, can it get any easier than that?

I work part-time hours with full-time pay...
I made over 26,000 this year...
can you ask for another account to work on? SM
that's what i did. it was too much fretting over whether there was work.

companies won't wake up and stop doing anything. you will have to do it for yourself unfortunately.
You might not work on the account, but YES
x
I can work all I want. I don't have to account
for my hours.
I work on an account that still has tapes and ...sm
it is a very profitable account. The line count is twice as good as several of the accounts I have that are digital. To each their own, but there are many doctors out there who do not want to go digital and you will find when they do you might just lose them to VR, as I lost a very good account to that because they figured out how to do it themselves. If the account pays on time, the doctors are easy to understand, and they pay you a good line rate then go for it, tapes or digital.
Well, I work for a national, but my account
is a big hospital, doing acute work. It was a heck of a way to learn starting off, but I know it will benefit me in the long run, just one of those days!

Closing in on my 2 years now, I thought about maybe applying at a hospital inhouse here that hires starting out at $20, but once you add all the expenses (not counting any deductions), you come out to about the same. It's just not worth it. It would probably be less stress considering I would work set hours instead of all the crazy ones I have been doing, but then you have to add in at least 2 hours of drive time to that each day. It evens all out I suppose.
The company I work for has one account
that does not want IV at all. They have programmed their VR software to expand out IV, much to the consternation of cardiologists when they dictate IV conduction time and the MT doesn't catch it.
I work 1 full-time, 2 part-time....nm

Is it possible some of the account work is going overseas. MQ does offshore you know.
:
I agree, it depends on who you work for BUT also the account
and how long it has been on VR. If it has been on VR for a few years, piece of cake. If it is just starting out on VR - tedious work, low pay as it takes longer to edit than to just transcribe it.

I have been doing VR editing for 4 years now with an account that has been on it that long also...can make up to $50 an hour, and some times as low as $30 an hour when we add new dictators.

Hope this helps.
Or why not hire an IC to work on the account under you? You found it
and it is your reputation and bidding that sealed the account, why not ask IC's to BID on it. You might find somebody who loves derm work and wants the money. Even if you only make 1-2 cpl over your IC it adds up.
I work on an account that just came back from India sm
They had an outsourcing company that sent their stuff to India. They were so unhappy, they brought the account back to be done by AMERICAN MTS.

But the poster below me is right, the government IS doing something, they are making it easier and more financially rewarding to go overseas. One day and sooner than later, the American worker will be so poor and so economically depressed that America will no longer be able to import goods/services from overseas because we can't afford them. By that point, we'll be gardening in our window boxes and stockpiling foods that we will no longer be able to have or afford.

The tip of the slippery slope towards another Great Depression.
Sounds like an account I work on locally
can ya try to focus on ONE thing.  I know I would NEVER go to this doctor.  He's not sure if he did a colonoscopy or an endoscopy???  Scary.
I work for Warminster at MQ and I am sick to death of being jerked around with no work all the time.
I would like a job where I can depend on the work and it does not seem to be in this office of MQ.
