I went that route initially and lost 60 days

In Reply to: selling house - meMT

and ended up listing my house with a regular real estate agent.  In my post below about the soft market, I also mentioned not to go with a for sale by owner agent.  Help-U-Sell and Assist-2-Sell are what I'm talking about.  Yeah, the list on the MLS and yeah they give you a lock box but that's about it.  With a bulldog real estate agent and company they will go the extra mile for you.  That's what my agent did for me and my house is sold.  We close on October 9th.

Regarding the lock box, your better agencies have them now that will email your agent when someone comes in a shows your house. It's a good way for your agent to followup.  For sale by owner agents don't do that.

Be careful about these flat fee agents, because you get what you pay for.

Good luck!

Seahawks lost. I always route for the underdog

Congrats to the Steeler fans.

I was hit by all 3 that summer, I lost power, I lost work, I lost savings...but..sm
NEVER did my employer in any way imply or threaten or dare even mention that my job was in jeopardy because I could not work immediately following a trifecta of natural disasters! My jaw agape is not at your concern about working, but at your concern that you would lose your job because of it. Companies have to have a heart in some situations. You're one MT, your company won't go under without you working for a week or 2 or 3.
I don't go that route-my pvt MDs....sm

My private MDs, well one of them knows me for 25 years, almost like family (and there's 2 in that office I work for), and the others know me well too.  There's an old computer expression, KISS - keep it simple sweetie!   I keep it extremely simple for the billing end of things and I always get paid within 10 days of submitting the monthly bill.  I figure if it isn't broken, don't fix it.  *lol*

Best of luck!!

Which route?
Which route are we going to take?  We all need to be sending letters and such to the same media, so there is a big impact.  If only a few of us complain to one or two media outlets, the impact will not be felt.
I basically tell them I know nothing about that route (sm)
Like you I was an MT for 7 years or so before I ever had kids. And even then I did not have the chance to work at home, nor would I have wanted to, actually. IMO with our work, the choice, if you have high-need babies like mine, is either (a) ignore the kid and work or (b) work when they're sleeping. Which means I don't get to sleep like, at all, because I had babies who did not sleep much.

I would, and have, done what you did the drugstore clerk. You can't tell some people anything.

I personally have told people who asked me, "I wouldn't. You won't make enough money for the aggravation." I've also told them, "If that was your plan, you should have started 5 years ago so you had all that under your belt before you had kids." Depends on the circumstance and how hateful I'm feeling that day. (blush)
A more expensive route...
is Best Buy. I called inquiring about a new computer and they all have Vista. But, they said for 130 bucks, you can have Windows XP installed. I was lucky that my son was willing to let me have his computer with XP as he had bought a new one a while back. Good luck.
I recently lost 20 pounds. That means I lost 80 sticks of butter.

I did fine until Hubby went the SE route.
He hates paying taxes and the broker he works for doesn't want to give the going rate that they should get just so he can keep the guys working. He's looking around now, but with all the highway funds going to mass transportation instead of road building, there's not much out there.

Plus he bought another truck and our last tax man took the depreciation route instead of the lease payments. What'dya gonna do in a small town.LOL
I did mine initially in MS Publisher, but I

switched over to MS Word with an Excel object pasted in the center of it that has formulas for multiplying rates out.  I have one guy that does a bunch of weird stuff, so I bill him by the project.  Sometimes it's a per page rate, sometimes it's hourly, and sometimes it's a flat fee.  MPCount didn't work for billing him either.

If you'd like to leave your email address, I'll delete my info so you can put yours into it.

Tried this initially per tech's suggestion. Thank you!

Don't spend a lot of time initially trying to get

a blank.  After you complete the dictation go back and relisten to see if you can fill in the blanks.  When I get a new ESL dictator it sometimes takes me a while to get his accent so I don't spend a lot of time trying to fill in the blanks initially.  Usually by the end of the report I have gotten the accent and can fill in most blanks.   I also have the experience to know what the blank should be in most cases, and that also helps me fill in.   If you get QA files back make copies of them and start your a notebook.  If you have the ability to relisten to files after they have been signed off when you get QA back relisten to the dictation and see if you can hear the blanks then.   When I first started doing ESLs I was so stressed because they were hard and I left a lot of blanks and I just don't normally leave blanks.  After getting QA back and relistening it seemed so clear what they were saying and I couldn't believe I had struggled so much.

Call your local paper and see if they have a route

available in your area. You have to be an early riser and work 7 days a week though.  I used to get up at 6:00 to walk.  Now I get up at 5:00, walk for one hour every morning with only 65 newspapers, and I make an extra $70 to $80 a week for 7 hours a week.

My sister does 250 papers by car (roadside tubes) and she makes $1000 a month. It takes her 3 hours a day though and she has a full time job, so I think that's a bit much.

Seriously though, papers don't hire kids anymore to deliver because kids just can't or don't want to do it.  Besides, who wants their 13-year-old out walking the streets at 5:00 a.m. ?.

No boss, good exercise, good money.

I doubt your brother has won more than he's lost. To win that much he's probably lost 3 times
So he probably has more bills than money. Otherwise the casinos would go broke.
Gentle stretching and ibuprofen initially,
then as it gets bearable, take up walking AT LEAST twice a week. Walk at a good speed with good posture, about 2 miles/45 minutes. The most logical way to keep a back working right when you sit in a chair all day is to walk regularly.

I'm 44, and thankfully all I get are muscle aches. At times there will be actual point tenderness in one of those (2) little dimples on your sacrum, you know, right in that area where a lot of tattoos are put? If you get that, you can massage that spot. It indicates a muscular problem, which is good, and it means you are too tight and need more exercise and especially stretching. The most important direction to stretch (since we are curled up in a C position so much of the day) is exercises that arch the back, so learn safe and effective stretches for that direction. What trainers are saying about stretching lately is stretch after exercise, not so much before, and hold each stretch longer. There are some muscles that don't even engage in the stretch until you've held it 30 seconds. I think piriformis is an important stretch.

It's very relaxing and restorative to stretch the right way.

Hope you are feeling better soon.
I thought initially "how hard can it be?"
It's not that I didn't respect the field, I just didn't anything about it. I had done legal transcription and figured since my mother was a nurse, I was pretty familiar with medical terminology (ahem).

By some miracle I got a transcription job in a small clinic and started to be trained. After the first week my thought was "Well, I guess I found something I CANNOT do!" =80 But my trainer was great, I picked it up quickly because even though it was hard I loved it from day 1.

That was 23 years ago and I've come a long way. I laugh at myself then. I was so clueless!
Were documents signed initially that focused on such an event?
dd
At least you "twiddle." Initially, I develop laryngitis from begging
.
Anyone with experience with small claims court in NJ??? I guess I am going to have to go that route
to try and get money that is owed me and to complicate things I don't live in that State.  If anyone has any info to offer I would greatly appreciate it.  I know times have been tough for some of us but after 9+ years I can't believe it has come to this.  Thanks in advance for any help or words of wisdom you can offer.
I just go paper route as I find TT a pain in the butt and it takes me longer actually - sm
plus they flag our return every year anyway (4 years running) so I am not wasting my time and money on it. My refund takes 4-8 weeks depending on their inventive reasons to hold our refund, but it always comes through eventually, last year it only took 1 month total. So I am hoping this year to get the same, need to get off my but and it it as we have $1400 coming back. TT is supposed to be reliable, and guaranteed, as long as all the info. you put is is correct and you can back it up, go for it, you already spent the money on the software you might as well use it.
Yes at PHNS-- this was a few years ago....was paid initially on how many lines you averaged an hour
the highest you could get was .085 which is what I averaged, however they restructured and it plummetted to .07.....you could get .085 again but you had to really work your butt off (something like +1500 a day).  I was PT so I was only doing 500 lines or so a day, at most 1000, so it basically sucked after that.  Plus the company totally changed, they started to outsource to the Phillappines, work dried up big time and we fought over the lousy crumbs.  Many of us left and moved onto to better things though!
I resisted it initially. Much to my surpise, line count has improved. Lots of backspacing being do
dd
This will vary depending on dictator style and speed, but the average to shoot for initially shoud b
around 3 times the length of the dictation. So, if the dictation is 5 minutes long, you should be able to complete the transcription in roughly 15 minutes. Again, that can vary, but it's a good rule of thumb to go by.
30 hours divided by four days equals seven-hour days. Most of us have to work pretty much every day
.
Working 6/hour days, 5 days/week I make
$42,000.00, but the work is there to make more if I want to.  I'm in the southeast.
2000 low days, 4000 busy days
Did 43,000 lines last month.   6 doctors.
You can "make a living" if you work 16-hr days, 7 days
and if you rarely buy anything but food and the barest essentials in clothing. My balancing act is so precarious that all it'll take is one of life's little disasters (rent increase, sick pet, major car repair) to pull the rug out from under me. Not a good feeling at all.
550-650 lph on average. Some days more, some days less. It all depends. nm
x
How? By working 12-hr days 7 days/week?
;LKJ
My dad lost 100 lbs on WW (sm)
He followed a strict WW diet and walked every day.
JUST LOST JOB

Does any know of a Radiology account that needs a Radiology Transcriptionist with 25 years experience.  I worked for a small company in my State for a year and the account was dropped today.

Lost my cat
I am so sorry for your loss.  I have had pets for many years and it is so hard to see them go.  We can enjoy them for a while.  When my little dogs and cats have had to go, I just think that I am doing the kindest for them.  I think they seem to know when it is time as well as you.  I have shed many tears over the loss of my little friends and still miss them all.  Get you another to ease your grief.  They are all different and a new friend would bring new joy into your life.  Another animal lover, Mary
lost
sorry, makes no sense to me.
Lost Dad
It has been five years since I lost my dad, and those times still hit me out of the blue.  Dads and daughters have a special bond other folks may not understand.  It will always hurt, but time tends to dull the pain most of the time.  He's in your heart and there will be times you will be able to gain strength from him where you can't gain it anywhere else.  Grieve however you need to.  Not for anyone else to say.  God bless. You are in my prayers!
Very likely she lost it to (sm)
someone cheaper, but could call to find out.
lost or just said so
I have worked inhouse for a company that when they pulled trans off an account for personal reasons or due to edits, they tell them they lost it. If your company is anything like the one in PA, this is always a possibility - when they don't like someone they frequently "lose accounts" If this is the case - it would be a contract problem
Lost
This company wouldn't be located near Gastonia, NC would it? The same thing happened to me recently and I am just curious if we were working for the same company.
I lost 72 lb in about 2 yrs on WW. sm
Easy to learn, good program b/c you eat "real food", you can eat with your family or go out to eat. Wonderful, sensible, slow weight loss but it is healthy and is not a "diet" per se - it is a lifestyle change. You can eat whatever you want, just in smaller portions and sensibly! Highly recommend it. You can do it on-line too.
As one who has lost everything before...
The best way to backup anything is to email it to yourself on an internet-based email account (i.e. yahoo or AOL). For instance, you back up your Autocorrect, email the text file to yourself. To backup favorites, while in the internet, go to File then to Export/Import, save to your Desktop, email to yourself by attaching the file. Pictures, videos, and the like are a little different. Those should be on a DVD, and do what I do: Make copies of your DVDS (family pictures, videos) and give a copy to two friends. That way, if you lose your copies to fire, theft, etc., you will always have a copy.

My personal opinion. Nothing worse than starting over.

Are you sure they are lost?
I thought book marks were actually saved online for you by for example Yahoo. When i got a new computer, I downloaded the yahoo toolbar and signed into yahoo and voila! There were my bookmarks.
Job lost
Believe it not, C phone and Lanier technology is very passe now.   If you work for a national, you never lose jobs no matter what happens.  Don't worry about it. It's their equipment not you that caused your job to disappear.  It's all in a day's work. My mom used to say "tomorrow is another day." It's true it is, fresh start, new beginnings with lessons from the previous one to lean on.
Not ALL MTs - I lost 50 lbs 12 yrs ago and
and lookin' good (mid 50s).....20 more to go to be FIT
Nothing is really lost
You are a gem Patti, and a real business woman. You were not meant to have a pain in the neck account. Things always have a way of working out for the best. I have had those type of accounts in the past where the PA (usually female) will spell the medical terms incorrectly, and then try and tell you that YOU spelled it wrong when in actuality you spelled it correctly! Something else will come along.
Lost job too
Well, join the crowd.  More and more of our work was being sent to the service company, and now we are being eliminated as part of the work is going to some sort of point and click for the doctors to do themselves, and then some going to voice recognition as well.  So I am looking for Psychiatric work if anyone can give me any good tips for this.  TIA
I also know someone who lost
It only takes about a month for them to get up and running and then they cut the MT off.  Sad affairs...
sorry....lost me with the $9.00 fee.
x
lost work
I would ask you, one MT to another, do not let this burn you and make you less than you are. In reality the situation is no different then if someone was going to one store for years and then a newer, more modern one came along and the person switched. This is free enterprise at work. The way that people know we are professionals is the attitude that we have when this does happen to us. Always be a professional and you will be better then the next man. I have learned that it is our attitude in this world that will either change it or make it worse. You new know, because of the way that you handled this account, you could be recommended for something even better. Just a little encouragement. Just do things to the best that you can and it will come back to you, whether you see it or not.
Lost time?
Maybe you are all spending too much time doing searches?
In training we were told don't spend much time - let it go to QC because the clerks have all the census information, etc. that we do not have access to and it is easy for them.

Some things to consider:
If it's an old dictation (more than a couple of months), it probably won't be in the database. If it's a preop for the future, it won't be in the database; just type in what the dictator says.
lost lines on DQS could be from
Is there a program that just detects how many times you hit a key rather than the word if you use an expander?  Could that explain the line decrease?  For example if I type PE and my Expander puts physical examination, maybe it only counts the PE?
DQS lines lost
a., more than likely the answer is Yes.  b. this would not be something that would be brought to your attention by administration to correct their error in your favor, and how many other transcriptionists do you think are getting the shaft in this regard by not being told, and not having enough technical inquisitiveness (like you do) to ask?  typical, typical, typical.  if in fact this is the case, i certainly hope you get your back pay for these serial errors on their part.  good luck friend.
Lost job without notice
I worked for over a year at a company called New England Transcription. It is in Connecticut. They found out today that the hospital dropped their account. It is not associated with New England Medical Transcription.
I used to go to the gym, but lost motivation - so now
I have a treadmill and an exercise bike in the house and I'll jump on them for 10 minutes at a time throughout the day - it's a good break from work and the time adds up. I only do 30-40 minutes 5 times a week, but it has helped me stay in shape! I also lift 5 lb. weights a few times a week - nothing strenuous, just a few arm exercises my brother, who is a personal trainer, taught me. Good luck - I know it's hard when that fridge is there all day long. I tend to eat when I'm stressed so it is particularly difficult on certain days.
