And for listening to me boo hoo about being laid off or dissolved as the suits at the hospital like to call it. Anyway, I have officially accepted a QA Editor position with a service and I'm actually in a more positive frame of mind than I was last week.
I got my laptop all set up and ready to go with a laptop stand for plenty of ventilation, I put off buying any kind of wav player and just downloaded ExpressScribe for the time being, and I didn't saturate the market with my resume, but picked only a few places to apply based on suggestions and information you all gave me here. And I did all of this because you ladies gave me such good advice.
I just wanted to say what a great place this is and it is very, VERY wonderful to have a place to network, socialize, fellowship, or just plain gab with colleagues and friends.

Advice to YOU..1st learn to spell before insulting poster and trying to give advice...sm
I will. Just wanted to give a heads up about this
You should always give at least two week's notice!!
explain to them that this "is not your cup of tea". If you're looking for another job, they may tell you you don't have to work two more weeks. I once gave a four week's notice because I KNEW it would be a huge strain on the small company I worked for. Good luck!!
the best advice I could give
Make sure everyone understands that you WORK from home (it's not you're home and you work). And you have to learn the concept yourself as well.
Stick to the same schedule you did when you worked in an office. If you didn't make personal calls in the office, don't make them when you work from home. If you didn't run errands when you worked in the office, don't run errands when you work from home. (and the list goes on)
The best advice I could give to you..sm
is to get some rest!! Get yourself on a regular schedule and stick to it -- even on the weekends. For example, I am in the bed by as close to 9 p.m. as possible, watch about an hour of TV or so,and then I'm off to sleep. Also, before I go to bed, I take a 325 mg of aspirin -- it cuts down on restless leg syndrome and just makes me rest better. I'm up promptly anywhere from 6:45 to 7 (never after that -- I have an alarm set in case I don't wake up on my own), have my coffee, eat a small breakfast (believe it or not, it IS the most important meal of the day -- just a small bowel of cereal or oatmeal and a piece of toast gets me through to lunch and I'm not a big breakfast person) get cleaned up/dressed, and am at work by 7:30. Even on the weekends if I'm not working, I still get up at the same time. Your body will learn your routine and come to rely on it. Since I have been doing this (MANY years) I have found that I'm able to be sharper and more mentally aware.
I eat something small for lunch, take at least a 5-10 minute break an hour to stretch or just get up and refocus, and still am able to get a good solid 7-8 hours a day. Just what works for me!
Thank you - could you give me some advice....sm
as to which KVM switch to get? I assume I need to look for one that will hook keyboard, monitor, mouse, and speaker set all together, correct? Any suggestions for a good KVM switch and a DSL router would be greatly appreciated. TIA
The best advice I could ever give is
NEVER quit your job until you have another 1 started. You have done something foolish, should have made sure everything was go before you left the other job. The first job is right, you quit- I could not draw unemployment in my state if I quit- don't know if same for all states. Best to find somebody who will loan you some money on a short term loan. I doubt you will see any money from 2nd place.
Just give the customary 2 week notice.

KT, I want to give you some personal advice ...
People respond to negative situations in two different ways. Some will learn a lesson and do all they can to help others avoid the same pain, frustration, stress, etc. Others will not learn anything but just be all the more angry, hateful, bitter, and want nothing but for everyone else who has the same issue to suffer as much or more as they did.
The difference is attitude, outlook, perception. It is the only thing you can control yourself 100%.
I guarantee you that if you look at the posts on this board, you will be able to understand more about the individuals posting here than they probably can tell you about themselves.
While it is true that your attitude will never undo actions, it WILL determine which direction you will take from that situation. A positive attitude will allow you to heal fully, to be more wise, to have more sightful judgment, to see the future with greater clarity, give you strength to take a tough stand and make difficult decisions, and above all it will keep you out of the emotional trenches that those with a negative attitude will be mired in all their lives.
Any MTSO's out there willing to give marketing advice?
I have been transcribing for 6 years and want to get my own accounts. What is the best way to do this? Any info would be great! Thanks
Anyone in the Hartford, CT area willing to give advice on what to charge.
Want to try to get my own accounts in this area, but unsure what a good rate for this area is. Any advice? Thanks in advance.
Excellent. The way I see it. She obviously has not sound advice to give any of us stay-at
home moms, so she should just keep all comments to herself. She sure does sound like a pot stirrer and so we should just ignore her. Whadda you say?
Read it again and it said "The best advice I could ever give is NEVER quit your job...
That's not advice, that's rubbing salt in her wound. Your other piece of advice about getting a loan is basically stating the obvious. I'm sure the OP realizes she may have to borrow some money. I think she was probably asking what should she do about the employer treating her unprofessionally.
Basically, you gave lousy advice and your only intent was to kick her when she was down.
so people who are frustrated doctors can give medical advice.
so
thanks for the advice.....I am definitely open to learning new things, so I'll give it a try!

Good day that went how I wanted it to go sm
Decided too much negativity, so I'll post something nice!
I made my lines for my FT job in my shift time. Goal this week was 1300 lines a day and I did 1316.80. It is half past 5 local time, I have had a homemade stew with dumplings for supper and a dried fruit dessert I made that I rather like. Sitting here relaxing a while before I tear into my PT job so I won't have to in the wee hours.
This was nearly a dream day. I cleaned my house on my weekend and it is pretty well tidy AND clean. The only way I don't have to spend 2 days cleaning each week is maintenance, so I have to be neurotic about vacuuming daily and keeping the kitchen flybaby.net CLEAN.
Full stomach, sweet tooth happy, clean house and made my lines.
So what is your dream day?
Give a week's deadline, then threaten to bill client directly. That shoud do it. nm

Would it kill you people to give constructive advice instead of insults and insensitivity?!?
I understand your frustration. I think you just need to sit down and have a talk with your employer. Find out exactly what they want your status to be. As an employee, yes they do have the right to dictate your hours, where you work, etc., but they do not have the right to jerk you around. If they want you to work at home, then they need to provide for that, not you! Anyone who says otherwise is wrong! In any industry, if a company wants you to commute, they pay for gas/mileage. If they want you to have a cell phone/pager, they either pay for it, or they provide an allowance for it. If they want you to work at home, they provide equipment. It sounds to me like they want way too much and are giving very little. Just because a person/company is the employer, it does not give them the right to treat people like dirt, sending them on wild goose chases, interfering with their life, schedule, expenses, etc. I am sorry you have received such critical and insensitive comments. I hope this works out for you. Blessings!
Good working in MT help wanted ad...
It gives the usual stuff about transcribing reports, letters, etc, then says:
"...correct spelling and medical terminology errors using dictionary and medical reference books; edit documents by recognizing, interpreting, and evaluating repetitions, discrepancies, and inaccuracies in dictation; editing, revising, and clarifying without altering meaning and style..."
THIS is why we are so much more than "typists."
Give them a week's written notice...I'll be leaving xx/xx, please forward final check to . t
why would you have to say anything else?
Just wanted to warn her not to throw good
ADHI sux.
New. Wanted to put in a better card to support a game my 17yo DD wanted to play.

I quit this week too. Good Luck!
Missed your post yesterday.

this is very good advice
Embarrassment and nips it in the bud. When this first started I was so dumbfounded that I didn't know what to do or say, but I find myself not going over there at all and unhappy so I need to take control. Hopefully it won't happen since big mouth brought it to his attention, but if it does, I will force myself to quickly say something within moms earshot. Thanks for the advice.
Very good advice

Need some good advice, please
I'm looking for an Internet-based software for my home MT service, one that can be accessed from any web browser, can e-sign, auto fax, let the docs' referring physicians go to the site, log in and read their patients' reports, and offer a complete accounting of lines charged on a daily, weekly, monthly, etc., basis. Also software that will allow the doctors to search transcripts by any criteria; i.e, patient name, their date of office visit, names of meds prescribed, and the like. Also, one that could also be integrated into EMR without any problem in the future.
Does anyone have any good ideas?
Also, any idea of the intitial outlay and the per-line charge the vendor would charge on the average?
Finally, I'd be very interested in reading about the type of software you currently use and if you and your clients are happy with it.
Thank you much.

Good advice!
I don't exactly time myself on how long I try before leaving a blank but I would say I never spend more than 3 minutes either. I would think though that 3 minutes would certainly be enough time for anyone to spend, more than that would be a waste of time IMO.
This is such good advice! Thank you.
I am on the Climara patch - low dose. Sleep deprivation was making it very difficult to get through the work day and so, I really had no choice. I promised myself yearsd ago I would not be sad due to aging and really, I had a wonderful time as a young woman. The physical symptoms, though, I never expected to be so difficult. It is like being slapped up side the head with a 2 x 4 when you least expect it.
That's good advice. I like that. :) (nm)

Good advice
And exactly what the OP apparently wants someone else to do for her and spoonfeed her the results. She declared she didn't have the "patience" to read all the posts, so it is unlikely that she will follow your advice.
Need some good advice, please...
There's a very large insurance company here in Boston that wants me to handle their transcription - very little medical terminology, and the typing would be pretty darn simple. The head of the company seems like a really nice, down-to-earth guy; the work will be plentiful; and there would also be an opportunity to get in with other branches of the company as well doing their offices' transcription.
I know as an IC we are to set the rates, and I normally charge on a per-line basis; however, they are adamant about paying a per-page charge - currently pay $2.50 per page now to a service they detest.
What do you feel is a fair per-page rate to charge them? I really want to be fair, but I use an Internet-based platform that charges me 1.5 cents 65 cpl.
Any and all suggestions are welcome, and thank you so very much!
good advice
I'll just keeping trudging along. Learning and living.
That's some good advice
there.
all good advice
You have already gotten some good advice and I agree with all of it. You should not make a hasty and impulsive decision about your marriage, certainly. But as one who spent 15 years in an emotionally and eventually physically abusive marriage because I went to a church that "didn't believe" in divorce, let me just say, if you do eventually make a rational decision to go, don't let what others think even be part of the decision. I still get lots of criticism and judgment from so-called Christians about my decision, but my children and I have never been any better off than we are now.
always such GOOD advice!
...they will pay your average pay for term of contract.....
Okay, Patti -- fess up. What's your web site or fan club address?
Administrator -- We need to give Patti her own board!!!
That was good advice
This post offered some great advice! I'd do that until I was sure I liked my new company better. Also, the advice someone else gave about searching the company board for positive and negative comments about the new company was good. You may feel a little bit overworked for a short while, but it shouldn't take you too long to know if you like your new job. Best to you!
that's good advice, too
I would stay at the current job, take the paid maternity leave (making sure, as the last poster said, that you can quit after it with no repercussions) and find something during your leave that you can take your time to work into.
All 4 of my kids were born with me working at home, and that includes the middle 2 being twins. It worked for me. Some babies are very easy to work with and others are very hard. I guess you can't really know until they are born. I switched companies when I was 4 months pregnant with my last one and I was worried about that, but it did give me time to get used to the new company before adding the baby and getting used to two new things at once, so think about that, too.
Does anyone know any good advice on how to
get rid of Office 97 when installing Editscript? If Editscript finds traces of Office 97, it won't install. I have talked with Escription and they gave me links to download Office registry removal and that didn't work. Thanks
Good advice
A very nice, generous, and helpful post. Great advice about going over the nasty supervisor's head--nobody should have to be verbally demeaned on the job--no matter how many years a supervisor has. (Congrats on in-house & good luck)
That's good advice. Thanks.

He/she needs to PAY them well, give good
the quality and production will improve, & turnover will go down. Doctors keep raising prices to US, so why are we so squeamish about raising our prices to THEM?
Raise MTs pay & benefits. Sometimes you have to SPEND money to MAKE money.
No insight but good advice....sm
.... get to a doctor now! Better safe than sorry.
Good advice. I'm new to this area, and still sm
don't have enough phone books. The nearest Wal-Mart is 15 miles away, so I'm kinda limited as to resources. I will check to see if there is a bike store in the next "big town" (20 miles away). Thanks!!
Very good advice from 'Been there done that.'
I think this advice is great. Maintain your professionalism and integrity. You are worth 14 cents a line. I also live in the Northeast and charge 13 cents a line for a psych account, which is very easy, but if I were doing family practice, I would probably charge 15 cents per line, as that is what the other MTs in my local area charge. Good, quality, dependable service is hard to find. I think they will be back. Get out there and market yourself and find another account. You’ll be fine.
Lynn
Starting over you have a lot of good advice below on..sm
your situation. I must say I do feel for you and wish you all the best. Take care of yourself and those children first. That is most important and I will most certainly be thinking about you and saying a prayer or two. Take your time and do whatever you have to in order to make a safe and happy life for yourself and those children. Bless you and wishing you happiness.
