big, but don't cover the entire ear. They are stereo with a volume control in-line. They cost $20 or less at Wal-Mart and I have to replace about once a year because a wire breaks and I don't get stereo. Any of bud ones hurt my ears.

Thank you for the Koss headphone recommendation sm
I had to get another pair because think my $45 pair is dying and I can't afford another pair...and 2 new keyboards, a new mouse, a space heater, a special MT pedal and some software this month.
I was at Wally's and they had one type of Koss headphones only costing $5 and I bought them. I really like them and they are quiet. They even came with an extra pair of padded foam thingys for the ear part.
So, to all who said try them, I have and many thanks.
I wear cheapie ear buds from Target, any brand, usually Koss. Comfy, light, good sound, cheap. nm

Ooops, sorry. My last post said "head head." I meant "her head." Sorry.
Small ear pieces
Try Lanier Healthcare. They have a headset that has ear pieces that fit right into your ear without any hard plastic to deal with, just wires and the foam that fits into your ears. They are the best ones I have ever used.
I forgot about those pieces of paper sm
but we used those in high-school and when I got my first job as a senior in HS, we used those. I worked high school "office co-op", we got credit and worked tooa ND I worked in the personnel department of a hospital. I remember the pink and yellow also.
I only caught bits and pieces of it, but sm
I didn't see anything offensive that should generate such a stink. My BIGGEST gripe is with people who come out hating something, expressing an opinion about something they have never even SEEN!
The little bit I saw, it looked like a man dealing with "normal" family situations -- let's face it, it is not unusual nowadays to have a gay son, or become addicted to prescription meds, etc. -- ministers are not immune. I am a Christian and love the Lord, and I was not offended by anything on the show. And even if I was, it is not my place to tell others what they can and cannot watch. We all get to "vote" with the flick of a channel.
just need a few good pieces of info
from what i understand, name, address, ph#, esp w/SS#, birth date, maiden name .... everyone should definitely educate themselves about this, as its very widespread now.
hmmm...cut off. s/b pieces, but can't wait until the 29th! NM

Where to buy headphones, below the chin, small ear pieces
Ick, I agree on the candycorn. Two pieces of that stuff and I am sickened.

headphone
I do not use the noise cancelling ones and I have not had any problems. I don't even see a brand name on 'em - my employer provided them!
GOOD LUCK!
Headphone question
I posted on technical board, but this seems to be a more populated place.
I have an external sound blaster box with plug in for headphone, speakers with plug in for headphone. When I put headphones into either one of these, the sound still just comes out of the speakers. What the heck am I doing wrong?
TIA
headphone recommendations?
I am currently using the Koss Plug. I like how they block the noise but the design of them is hurting my right ear a bit, and I have not been able to adjust the bass well enough on my pc to fix the sound to my liking.
Can anyone recommend a decent pair of headphones for under $70, or preferably under $50? The $20 price tag on the Koss Plugs was great, especially since many people seem to like them - I will definitely keep them, but I just cannot use them 40 hours a week long term - ouch! In the meantime, I will keep fiddling with how I put them in to see if I can relieve some of the discomfort.
Thanks!
Headphone suggestion
I bought some wireless headphones at Circuit City and they are awesome. No cord to get tangled up in and the sound is good. I also have an office that still uses STANDARD tapes, if you can believe that, and the sound quality was horrible with the regular headphones. I hooked it up to the wireless headphones and I could actually hear what they were saying! You have to work with them to get the right channel but it's not difficult at all. They have the big ear pads that cover the whole ear, which I think help a lot for sound quality as opposed to those little ear buds. The only thing I don't like about them is they have an auto shutoff feature so if there's no sound coming through them for a few minutes, they turn off and you get this big blast of loud white noise in your ear. lol If I had it to do over, I'd get some without that irritating feature but all in all, I really love them.
The ones I bought are Sennheiser and I think they are around $75. The Bose are great headphones but they are quite a bit more expensive. If you don't want to go wireless or don't want to spend that much, just look for the kind with the big ole ear pads that cover the whole ear. Circuit City carries some good inexpensive headphones, and you can read customer reviews on them on their website.
Headphone preference
I'm looking to purchase some new headphones and am not sure which ones to get. Does anyone have a pair they really love?? Or really hate?? Do you prefer regular ones or noise cancelling?? Thanks!!!!
tinnitus and headphone use?
Has anyone had progressive tinnitus during their career while using headphones? I would like to know if anyone out there has had increasing tinnitus, ear fullness, ear pain, slight loss of hearing, dizziness, or even diagnosed with Meniere's disease during their career? If so, how are you dealing with it? What precautions are you using now to prevent further damage? Thanks in advance!
Need noise reducing headphone help please!
I tried doing a search, but nothing came up. I know this has been discussed here before. Due to background noise in the house (TV and other things), I need to get a headset that blocks out this noise to I can hear my dictation. I can't afford much, and was wondering what others are using. The headset I use now is comfortable, but I can hear every little sound going on in the house and I'm losing my mind. Thanks for the help!
opinions pls - which Bose headphone is best?
I am looking at Bose headphones on ebay and am trying to decide between the around the ear regular Bose's, versus the noise canceling around the ear versus noise canceling on the ear. Anyone have these and can help me with my decision??
I have a pair of RCA cheaper (on the ear) phones now that are supposed to be noise canceling, but cannot really tell a big difference when I have it turned on and also notice a buzz in my ear when I do turn on the noise cancel option - any probs like this with the Bose's???? Thanks for your help.
Me too.. Koss DC/10! nm
.
I use Koss behind the ear
Love them! The sound is great and they don't hurt at all! And reasonably priced!
Anything by Koss.
Most Sonys are excellent too. Also the Sennheiser PX100 is great, comparable somewhat to the Koss Portapro, though the cheaper Koss ones sound great too.
I've heard the Panasonics are cheap and amazing for the price, but haven't tried any of them yet.
Koss
I bought a really nice pair of Koss earbuds at Wal-Mart. I have problems with a lot of headphones hurting my ears too. These ones have those little black things that go in your ears. It comes with three different sized rubber things so you can use the ones that fit your ears. They are really great for blocking out noises too.
I use the stereo headphone type that cover - sm
your whole ear. My first set (Aiwa) cost about $30 and lasted about 3 years, second, bought an expensive ($130) noise-cancelling set (Sony). They lasted about 18 months and were not as comfortable and went bad (one side has a bad hum to it now and are unusable---cord pulled out from plug --I unplug them at least several times a day to listen through the speakers --helps me get words I cannot "hear", guess it could not handle that). Just got a set of Maxells for $35, also noise cancelling (don't use that option though), that are very comfortable, block out lots of noise and with any luck will last a long time. I may just go buy another set now so I have them for backup when the time comes, hopefully in 3-4 years. --So obviously it depends on the brand and how hard you are on them.
i do have stereo headphone that worked yesterday. nm

Foot pedal turns off headphone
jack. Speakers work fine. If I reboot and don't use the pedal, the headphone works. Any ideas?
Thanks
P.S. - Sharper Image also sells this same headphone for much more.sm
I should also mention that I recommended this headset to my team when I was supervising because the company-issued headsets were basically garbage. I had a lot of good reactions, but a few people didn't like "over-the-head" style because it smooshed their hair or it just wasn't the best one for them. Hearing is a very individual thing and what works for one might not work for another, but quite a few of my crew got these and most seemed to like them.
These Kensingtons fold for travel (a lot of people use them on airplanes), by the way, and you can use them with any other portable audio like a Walkman or iPod, so I think all my folks kept theirs even if they decided to use them for other things than transcribing due to the fact that it's so inexpensive.
Bose headphone Quiet Comfort 2 or 3 better?
Anyone tried both and have a preference? Any positives or negatives (besides the outrageous price?) I bought the Quiet Comfort 2 in the store after trying the demo model of the QC 3. I thought the over the ear would be better for blocking noise, but I am not certain they are as good as the QC3 (on the ear). I just want a pair of headphones that will block out my kids being home this summer, as I have to work in the dinning room corner and I hear everything. Might try a different brand/model all together because for 300-350 dollars I am not the Bose are worth it. Thanks for your input!
I don't know what the Koss Plug is, but for myself I just
The kind with the small, hard ends that fit into your ear, not the big, round, padded ends with the foam on them. They're under $20. They don't hurt at all, and I find the sound quality to be fine--but I've not had a lot of experience with other, higher quality earplugs.
Koss DC-10 Headset
Do any of you use the Koss DC-10 headset? How is it? I need to replace my headset and I want to invest in a good new one. Can you tell me . . . are the ear inserts foam or a plastic-type material? It is difficult to tell by the picture on the web-site I have looked at. I perfer the plastic insert to foam. :-) I think they last much longer and seem to block out the outside noise. Your opinions please! Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Just bought some Koss
"SPORTCLIP" stereophones and love them. Got them at Radio Shack for about $25. Each side hooks directly over the ear, no headband on top or behind the head, and you can hardly even tell you have them on as they are very lightweight. They do block outside noise quite well--I have been startled by family members who walked up behind me and then tapped me on the shoulder. They also have a volume control right on the cord, an absolute necessity for me. They have a standard plug but I have a USB adapter and have them plugged into the front of my computer. The cord isn't real long, only 4 feet, which I am still getting used to, but otherwise I love everything about them.
anyone using koss QZ99
headphones? is the headband comfortable? do you like them?
Koss earphones....$5.00 at Wal-Mart

I like an expensive Koss brand I get at
Wal-Mart. They fit around the back of your head, have a big "muff" (don't know what you call them) and don't squeeze so tight you sweat. I think they are are $9.99. They only last me about a year though as one of the wires seems to break and you don't get sound in both ears. I've had several pair of them and really like them other than having to replacement them every year or so.
I use Koss headphones. They are huge, but effective.

Check out same thing made by Koss. It is $19.95

Koss DC-10 and radio shack booster

Radio Shack does not appear to carry theirs anymore. This one on ebay might work similarly.

No, you are not being cheap.
I spend what I can afford. No more, no less.
They got her cheap
Quality is on the downswing and hiring cheap people is up but that's ridiculous.
Yes, cheap. NM
no message
that is cheap
I have done seminars and meetings and still charge by the line and have made about $100 per 60 minute tape.
Its because they are too cheap
to upgrade to the latest technology. I remember using DOS forever and WP 5.1 forever because the MTSOs were too cheap to invest any money in state of the art technology.
There are services that use Vista, but harder to find.
Cheap docs
They absolutely don't care about quality or any of that jazz, which is why I have always wondered why we as an industry keep beating each other up over issues that doctors couldn't care less about. Not that I think we should all just transcribe any old way we want, but it seems like we act like the slaves out in the mud pit slapping each other around about how much or how little straw to use for the bricks while the slavedriver sits on the side line with the whip completely content with end product either way.
I suppose the answer most would give is that we should take pride in the quality of our work whether they (the doctors) do or not, but I can't get passed the notion that these are the same individuals that the powers that be seem so intent on pleasing and are also the same individuals who would see us all in the soup lines tomorrow looking for the next homeless shelter to sleep in if they had their way. They (the medical profession) will not think twice about putting all transcriptionists out of business at their first opportunity, and yet we as an industry continue to bow to their ridiculous and uninformed demands concerning how to do what we do or their complaints about how much we charge or that we shouldn't charge for line count generated by short forms or macros, etc. They have no clue how many times their butts get saved by transcriptionists on a daily basis.
I've never met a transcriptionist who wouldn't readily agree with the notion that we are part of the health care team, and yet many of us continue to act like we still work for the doctors instead of the patient. Oh well, go figure.
Just venting as well.
Cheap doctors
I remember one specialist many years back who complained when the hospital I worked for put in a new dictation system which required pushing the buttons on the phone to put in patient ID, etc. He came to the department in person, ranting and raving because "now he would have to pay to have a push button phone installed" in his office. This same doc came in the department on a Sunday afternoon and was using the hospital department copy machine to copy EACH AND EVERY PAGE his JAMA because he had DROPPED IT IN HIS POOL at home. Can you say, "cheep, cheep, cheep"????
No, its cheap labor.

That's cheap.....electrolysis......sm
the plastic surgeon charges $400 per session no matter what part of the body, mine was the chin and one brown spot, oh and in between the eyebrows (which the dr who didn't own the practice charged me HALF that). That doctor is more experienced in laser than the doctor who owns the practice (who wouldn't have charged me at all *lol*).
Someday when I am rich (hey, I can dream, now can't I??? *LOL*) I will go back and have the chin done over and over again *lol*
The reason they are so cheap
I think it's a bit of hyprocrisy on MLSs who are so anti-offshoring but love their computers from a company that offshores a lot of its jobs and there are plans to do even more.
Onesuite.com cheap, not
unlimited but very cheap, under 3 cents a minute. Lots bells and whistles. It's for regular phone not internet.
Cheap tickets.com
I got two round trip tickets for less than 500 on cheap tickets.com
